Inferno

Launched in 2004, but so 80s - and even older. The first half hour really reminds me of Bandit, the galbanum/ isobutyl quinoline combo is top notch, then after that it's quite close to Antaeus indeed (minus the castoreum), with a very Bel Ami vetiver as well. Excellent masculine chypre, leathery and floral, not very potent, but pure bliss. Love it. Top notes : lemon, bergamot, mandarin orange, galbanum Middle notes : myrtle, sage, cardamom, lily-of-the-valley, jasmine Base notes : patchouli, vetiver, cedar, leather, musk

Great value for the price (8E/75ml). A nice Antaeus Chanel vibe, which envelops you pleasantly for 8-10 hours (with 10-12 puffs). Moderate sillage in the first 3 h. My bottle is a recent one, jan. 2024.

At first you get this blast of what to me seems to be fruity unidentifiable spice and then it begins to fade to a soapy smell that feels like I've just had a bath in some rich person's house in the 1980's. It is not unpleasant at all but I feel, as a male nurse, if I work older adult wards this will be a fierce compliment getter from the retired crowd who will no doubt tell me I smell like their husband did in 1984. It's strong and thick and soapy, it's kind of what I imagine french soap shops smelled like 40 years ago. I wonder if I wasn't currently aged 42 if my mind would be jumping to all the 1980s comparisons or if I'm just old enough to remember this kind of smell on my dad's fragrances, he used to wear old spice and brut. It was £10 in TK Maxx, I don't feel scammed but unless I find something that it layers well with then I doubt I'll ever wear it, I sprayed a little green Irish Tweed over it and the GIT smashed straight through this to the point I can't smell it anymore, it was quite strong before I sprayed the GIT. I'll probably try something like oajan, Carlisle or spice bomb extreme over the top and hope for a cold day.
