Coney Island Baby

i was a little wary about sampling this because the burning plastic/rubber thing going on in eldo's fat electrician made me nauseous; but for mysterious chemistry reasons the industrial notes paired with a deep vanilla are DELICIOUS here. i wasn't even aware or had forgotten how much i like the scent of motor oil...a straight-up sensual note this smells like wanting to eat an oil slick, like pulling into the gas station at the beginning of an anticipated but inevitably bumpy roadtrip, like ripley in her underwear aboard the doomed nostromo, like the faint memory of hugging your truck-driver uncle in reno, nevada when you were six; he's now been dead for a long time. warm and cool, inviting and off-putting, sentimental and brutal--best suited for sensibilities that curve towards polarity. highly desirable in the way that only things laced with a little bit of personal pain can be. to my nose, by far the most interesting and distinct of the three SDW perfumes, a real achievement. wish they sold smaller bottles; i want it regardless

This is the most memory evoking of the trio for me. A trip to Disney World in mid summer. You’re waiting for the monorail with a Mickey shaped Ice cream half melted and dripping down your arm. You can smell the gears and tires as the tram pulls up to take you to magic Kingdom, Epcot, or the parking lot. You’re just a kid who’s going to hold on to these last disney moments till you can come back again. And then you’re all grown up, and this is your candy sweet perfume as it fills the air of the back seat of his car, he’s worked all day at the shop and you can still smell the leather and motor oil emanating from his clothes. You’re making out to The Stooges and you’re not sure why you know this is the last time you will see eachother. This is my Nonnas Coney Island where she was born and played as a kid. A sight of American splendor and pastime. Get your fortune read by Zoltar or ride the Cyclone if you dare. This is a damn beautiful thing, this fragrance.

Coney Island Baby is a rain puddle in a pot hole iridescent with oil slick. In the distance is the combined aroma of sugary, deep fried carnival offerings and the generator fumes from old ferris wheels and roller coasters. Everything in this feels cheap and dirty in the best way possible. It's sunset hot and smoggy. I feel like I should wash my hands after smelling it. I've been on a gasoline, synthetic, sweet, "weird" fragrance kick lately and this was a perfect addition to my collection. So evocative and realistic. That's 3 for 3 on the SDW collection. Very impressed and can't wait to see what's next. Edit: Nothing will be coming next lol. How hard is it to simply not spew vile hatred online? How hard is it to just be a normal decent person? Good fucking christ. How disappointing. Wouldn't have bought this shit if I'd known how gross this creators beliefs are.

I love this. It opens with a dose of petroleum and sticky sweet vanilla. The vanilla smells exactly like the soft-serve ice cream my local china buffet used to have. It's warm and industrial and delicious all the same. I asked my brother to smell it and he says it made him think of a blue sky. To me, it reminds me of "The Florida Project." The lavender-colored motel, the heat of the summer, children enjoying their innocent youths despite the not-so-best situations they're surrounded by. My only wish is that the rubber smell stayed until the end. All I get after an hour is the vanilla which I don't hate but can become cloying after a while. I'm gonna let it macerate and continue to test it out because it's a beautiful fragrance either way.

Like many others I *was* excited to try this perfume and I really did fall in love with the sample. I thought it was perfect for fall. It reminded me of walking around my local county fair with funnel cake and a gust of exhaust fumes blows by (I've always loved the smell of gas and motor oil). I would pair it with my Nemat amber oil and it was exactly the kind of signature scent I've been searching for. I was just waiting to get paid before buying the full sample and then of course *the news.* I will obviously not be supporting this person or giving them anymore of my money. It's just so beyond disappointing. If anyone has any recommendations for something similar to this.....please let me know.

A true masterpiece. The oily gears of an old wooden rollercoaster and hot waffle cones from a boardwalk on a summer day by the sea. My ultimate gourmand. It truly captures the essence of Coney Island and its infinite contrasts. Sometimes for an extra pop of sweet, I'll layer a heavy blast of Coney Island Baby with Lick Me. I will never understand the weird boycotting of Scout, as if the people doing so have any understanding of the views of the creators of any of the thousands of products they use daily, including other perfumers and perfume houses. People act morally outraged but all I see are people relishing in every moment of her 'take down' like a pack of ghouls.

I’m a one-perfume-at-a-time girl and had been on an ongoing Comme des Garçons Original streak until I came across Coney Island Baby. The blend sweet vanilla and gasoline is perfect. Although I tend to stick with classics and shy away from new releases, I couldn't pass this one up; it feels timeless. It’s disappointing to see the reviews for this incredible fragrance cluttered with irrelevant comments. I am so glad I won't be smelling like the bloodthirsty low-lifes who spend their time combing through this person's personal twitter activity to justify tearing down something remarkable they've worked so hard to create.

What I would think I would smell like if I was a Barbie doll. Smells kind of like a rubber boot? Kind of plastic-y sweet. Like still being able to smell the vanilla perfum a dominatrix is wearing through her full latex suit. Definitely reminds me of something from my childhood at the same time though? Each time I smell it I pick up a different note and it just keeps me constantly sniffing my wrist. It gets sweeter as it goes on, I wish it held that plastic-y rubbery smell throughout the wear. I didn’t think rubber boot smell would make me feel so sexy. I do wish it projected more and lasted longer.

omg wow! first time smelling an industrial gourmand and im so so so pleased!! i dont get the bergamot but perhaps its just mixing in well to create this like,, super duper epic of a smell!! petrol! garage! someone that rlly can handle the tools! i get the waffle cone through the hint of sweetness and the stryrax!!! the vanilla just rounds out the petrol smell but it works really well. the dry down is just a really interesting amber and styrax mix i rlly love it edit: found out what time of person she is ughhhh what a shame :(

This fragrance is so impressive to me because it really does smell like what she described this perfume to be. My skin really picks up on the vanilla and styrax.. Once it completely settles onto my skin it smells like yummy creamy vanilla and amber it is quite appealing actually. I chose this bottle as my blind buy and im glad that i did. I cant stop smelling my wrists. i enjoy more out of the ordinary scents and i love a gourmand so this is the best of both worlds for me. It also lasts all day on my skin.

I’ll never understand cancel culture. It’s truly astonishing how poorly people have treated this girl. Cooney Island baby is beautifully made, with unique features and the dry down is beautiful. In a market saturated with vanilla gourmands this is a breath of fresh air. Also I should mention Scout herself fixed an issue I had with my order, she was incredibly kind, going above and beyond as a business owner. I can’t wait to give this unique perfume to my daughter for Christmas!

Regardless of the controversy of the brand owner, this scent is really really cool. I love the concept of the seaside rollercoaster desert gourmand scent, really really a shame it will never get the praise it deserves now. The Concept, Scent and Bottle are all so so attractive to me but I will likely not be repurchasing from this house. Hate or Love the owner, this really nailed the concept of an industrial gourmand and ive been told it smells like a manly cookie.

I purchased the discovery set and expected Coney Island Baby to be my least liked fragrance so I started with that one. Surprise - it was love at first whiff and I didn’t even smell the other ones for weeks! I couldn’t get enough of that rubber meets the road scent mingled with sweet...I was addicted like Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle inhaling her nail polish. Got the full bottle!

I really love fragrances that basically hit you in the face with something refreshing and to me, gasoline is such a refreshing and invigorating scent. I definitely get some nostalgia from it but I don’t know where to place it. The base notes of vanilla and waffle cone make it so much more wearable and it’s nice to have a calming and warm come down after that initial intensity.

Car exhaust, musty leather seats, and tire rubber sitting atop a distinctly working class vanilla ice cream. The kind with the paper lid and a wooden spoon. The small town girls who grew up spending after school hours with their monosyllabic grandfathers until their moms got home from work may not survive this one without shedding a tear. I certainly didn’t.

Bought this a month ago and and have worn it every day since. Opening reminds me of CDG Eau de Parfum: addicting industrial smell similar to gasoline or glue, followed by soft vanilla-waffle cone notes. Incense lovers will enjoy this. There's nothing truly like it - my favorite thing to wear since discovering Angel a few years ago.

this perfume arrived in the mail while i was in the middle of reading Stephen King’s It, so it now reminds me of 1950s kitsch, red rubber pennywise balloons, and the fairgrounds the gay couple in the book go to before they get hate-crimed. i love it. the people review-bombing this are beneath contempt, and really embarrassing

Blind bought a bottle because of Scout's TikTok. This perfume is bonkers. It really does smell like car exhaust. It settles into this really sweet, smoky, evil-girl-vanilla. It smells like my tourist trap childhood - fresh waffle cone, but someone's rollin' coal down the highway. I fear I'm not cool enough to wear this.

A true unisex that may lean a bit feminine, but only slightly. It smells amazing and unique. I can't stop blending it with more masculine musky fragrances to balance them out with the ice cream and add a depth with the vanilla. My girlfriend can't stop blending it with airy floral scents to give them depth. Amazing!

A smoky, grown-up gourmand with incredible longevity, I get so many compliments on it and it's become one of my staples. Evokes a summer night but I'd wear it all year round. The waffle and vanilla are present but not overpowering or sickly sweet, the amber and bergamot really shine through.
