Migration de L'Arbre

Another masterpiece by the olfactory artist of Senyoko, Euan McCall. Finally, a true niche brand that prioritizes quality over quantity of fragrances (there were only four releases in their line up--now five as of October 2020). I was instantly mesmerized by Madama Butterfly II having never before encountered such otherworldly beauty in a floral fragrance. So I figured (rightly it turns out), the same expert craftsmanship, quality, care and attention to detail would be found in their other fragrances. Migration de L’arbre is the most enchanting green fragrance I’ve come across. Unlike the below reviewer, I detect nothing synthetic. It feels so natural, soft, and calming to wear with the bright citrus opening (grapefruit, yuzu), the floral-herbaceous mid with facets of clary sage blooming into osmanthus and magnolia, while still being very grounded with patchouli and ambergris, which really just provide an earthy aura throughout. I’m not a patchouli-lover, but it is so incredibly well done here. The closest analogue to this fragrance would be Dusita’s Pavillon D’Or, which is a beautiful fragrance in its own right, but I find Migration de L’arbre softer, fluffier, and refined. The sillage and longevity are way above average. Bravo Senyoko! Please keep doing what you’re doing. I’m a forever fan. Wow, this is probably one of the most impressive fragrance I’ve tried in years. From the first spray I get Juniper expertly blended with woody notes and a bit of citrus. It smells expensive, fresh and new. I feel like I want to be outdoors but in a social setting because it is a head turner. The scent at first is confusingly masculine, unisex then feminine all in a few short minutes. I would instantly jump on my husband had he been wearing this. It does soften quickly though and the projection lessens however the fresh, woody and expensive scent lingers. If I had smelt this on someone else, I would be desperate to know what brand it is as in my view it is no less than perfection!

What a wonderful scent, OMG !!!

I loved the aromatic salty fruit opening, but the drydown less so. The base is still pleasant; mostly musk and wood notes with no single note sticking out. What’s interesting for me was the opening which has a medicinal quality—very natural and pretty. Strangely the base comes across more synthetic, so I’m left confused. I would like to test this from a spray and not a splash vial.

This is primarily musky, woody, and herbal.The mix of earthy and woody ingredients makes it very dry to inhale and slightly irritating for the throat and eyes. I can tell that it is gorgeously blended but I personally would not enjoy wearing it. However, the conceptual approach of this brand is very appealing and the packaging is gorgeously artistic and poetic.

I agree with the positive reviews here. This is not a "sexy" scent, at least not in the steamy and lustful way. Rather it is the scent of soft and feminine love; pleasant and welcoming, with a quiet strength. I have penciled this in for a special lady.

Sweet woody aromatic citrus.... The pomegranate is dominant with oak, osmanthus, yuzu, citron, mastic, & juniper. This is quite epical as an Asian forest at night, very breezy, slightly sweet, and cooling citrus. Beautiful.

Migration de l'Arbre or Migration of the Tree is for me a very minimal fresh floral neo-chypre from the artistic house of Senyokô. Honestly this one has been an example where the notes list can just be a marketing tactic. I would be less disappointed if the notes promised something minimal rather than promising a larger than life perfume with a kaleidoscope of competing notes and tones... I get annoyed when a brand feels the need to oversell the associations of a few aroma chemicals as a result of a very specific concept in a brief. Senyokô does mention they use absolutes in their fragrances boasting that Migration de l'Arbre has clary sage absolute, juniper absolute, nigella damenscena absolute, ambergris, tobacco absolute and seaweed absolute. But I legitimately smell none of these essences in Migration de l'Arbre as I have experienced in essential oils, tinctures or in other fragrances... Migration de l'Arbre smells like a very dull, one-dimensional, fruity, neo-chypre. Dollar-store style young female freshness, with a pasty and pale woody foundation. Kind of cheap smelling and synthetic in a way of smelling too simple, but also refined enough to not be saccharine, cloying or itchy. However a very rough and simple development of a vaguely tart pomegranate rendering with a very flat, girly, sweet osmanthus effect lining the base giving it some kind of platitudinous and cliché, woody and creamy quality. The fragrance is an olfactory impression that recounts the short story Last Year's Tree by Japanese author Nankichi Niimi. In the story a bird settles on a tree and establishes a very close friendship with the tree by singing it songs. Apparently the bond developed was so powerful that even when chopped down and reduced to a match, the tree now as the fire in a lamp was still deeply comforted by the bird and danced to the bird's song one final time. I love the concept of a fragrance that seeks to humanize nature by following such a nuanced and poetic short story. These concepts are really quite moving... Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the fragrance. I do not smell much development in the fragrance beyond a sweet and watery fruitiness on an artificial smelling woody base. It smells slightly like cardboard adorned with spilled cranberry juice. Damp, sweet, corporate, mildewy and simple. The monotone pastel feel of this perfume for me comes off slightly off-putting as it remains through the drydown. It feels like it hides an unhinged side, as though it should develop into something more edgy but never moves from being a diluted and tart pomegranate and watery osmanthus. The strange, weak, limbo in Migration de l'Arbre leaves me personally in a state of anxiety. I feel unsafe somehow, like the discomfort you get from a cliff-hanger or someone teasing you with suspense. The pondering and dull fruitiness teeters on the edge of something syrupy and craggy, almost becoming an all out unsophisticated floral freshie with a fruity, boozy, twang of an oxidized daiquiri. The fragrance is unisex, feminine leaning and has polite sillage and good lasting power. While slightly on the nose, I would consider @Nickyyy's comment of a "cheap air refresher" to be an apt depiction for the smell of Migration de l'Arbre. Either I do not feel the company is being truthful about the caliber of ingredients they are using in their fragrances or I do not find the perfumer that they chose Euan McCall to be very talented at blending. I would coin the term "aerosol florals" for how Euan's treatment and blending of florals feel in most of what I've smelled. It is as if the perfume was maybe made well or finished at some point, but had been somehow ruined by later modifications made with the goal of adding something unconventional to the perfume to make it more "artistic" or "unique". I feel a slight sense of insecurity from the creator that comes through in the perfume which rendered it sloppy. However, Migration de l'Arbre is appealing to those looking for something safe, fruity and familiar in the niche space that could satisfy as a more utilitarian signature fragrance. But much like Duo des Fleurs this is something that also has a slightly forced, edgy atmosphere. Feel free to sample Migration de l'Arbre! 6/10

i think i’m hyper sensitive to juniper it’s all i can smell

Purchased a sample of this hoping it would work for me... Unfortunately it was a scrubber... The top notes aren’t bad but after 5 minutes it began to smell like a fruity can of bathroom deodorizer & chemicals in a hair salon. Overly synthetic, messy, & unpleasant. Total bummer, oh well...

This didn't win an award for no reason, lovely aromatic scent, pomegranate is most definitely the dominant note, a juicy one, its pretty strong so don't go heavy on the spraying, its unique and very pleasant! 8/10

Unfortunately on me this is just unpleasantly women’s-toilet-in-a-Mississippi-country-club. No citrus or juniper at all, just a flat cheap magnolia scent.
