Une Île Pluvieuse

Imagine an island that appears on no map: a point hanging in the middle of time, where the rain never truly falls but remains etched in the air like transparent silk. Une Île Pluvieuse is born here, in this gap between forest and memory, like a fragment of damp wood floating between two seasons. This is not the scent of a storm, but of what remains after: the resin warming slowly, the bark turning almost to honey, the path soaked with leaves and silence. There is something of Thoreau here, as if the bottle were a tiny liquid Walden: a green echo that doesn’t speak of wild nature, but of the way nature moves through us, aligning us to the rhythm of its slow heartbeat. A forest balm that smells of light footsteps, of moss giving way underfoot, of pages softened by humidity. Here, the rain does not wet: it engraves. It silk-screens every surface with a thin, opaline film where the light stretches out like liquid copper. It is the tone of amber you hold in your hand: a warm vial like a small fire beneath a canopy of branches. “Une Île Pluvieuse” is the scent of those who know how to remain, even just for a moment, within the invisible islands that rain creates.

Arabian style Incense (bokhoor)!... I very much get that dusty Arabian style bokhoor. I detect powdered patchouli, calamus, powdered violet leaves, ambergris, & vetiver cypress. The drier it goes the prettier it gets. I really enjoyed that Arabian style bokhoor that i get from this blend. Beautiful.

This is a grower. I disliked the mossiness of it at first, but after a while I began finding its artistic quality comforting, relaxing even. I'd even go on to consider this signature scent worthy. Test before you buy, and definitely give it repeated trials as this is a scent that rewards patience.

Too masculine for me to pull off, but a complex rainy scent that I'd love to smell on a boyfriend. The shy floral heart notes are my favorite

This is a very beautiful perfume with a strong character. It does have a watery scent to be sure, but I get mostly wood. It has an exotic smell and I enjoyed my test of it immensely. It lasted for hours and a friend sitting 2 meters from me mentioned being able to smell me probably 6 hours after spray so it definitely has some hang time. The biggest issue is it feels nearly criminally expensive. I can tell it's high quality, but I do not know if it would be worth it to me.

an intimate perfume, quite a strong opening as it was better described in other reviews, but it grows on me. i have seen myself wearing it a fairly often just for how different it is from other fragrances i have. it does not have a big sillage so i dont worry too much about others picking up on it or getting bothered by it (tho i think most could appreciate the funky florals coming off this one). quite lovely and strange.

Une Île Pluvieuse sulla mia pelle diventa presto legno e sabbia, sabbia e legno. C'è dell'umidità ma lo sento soprattutto legnoso, corda bagnata, e infatti c'è il calamo aromatico, il cui olio essenziale ha proprio quell'odore. Patchouli, vetiver (il tipo Java, più fumoso, cuoiato, ruvido rispetto all'Haiti) e un sacco di muschio di quercia (oakmoss Givco). Nel tempo si coglie un po' di cashmeran sul fondo, a donare freschezza e quel tocco aromatico mentolato.

sort of a strange and challenging fragrance. i appreciate its take on petrichor but im a bit boring and lean more towards things that smell “good” it’s ultimately too salty/bitter/sour for me to really love it

This one is extremely interesting but ultimately I found it to be a very oppressive, salty, geosmin and bitter, vegetal, violet leaf study. Unlike Duo des Fleurs and Migration de l'Arbre that seem to attempt at mimicking a watery and minimal feel akin to the blending styles of Alberto Morillas, Jean Claude Ellena, or Daphné Bugey, this perfume is thick humid and opaque. Geosmin is a very, very, very, strong aroma-chemical emitted by microorganisms in the soil and is responsible for the smell of the air on a rainy day. It is characterized by being earthy and damp like the smell of flipped soil with a bitter, licorice-like minty and camphorous hint which in lesser terms can be described as cool and mineralic. Geosmin can relate sometimes to carrots, violets, iris, patchouli or even sometimes mint in smell. Like oud, iris, patchouli and vetiver it can easily overtake a composition if used liberally. Unfortunately that is what happens in Une Île Pluvieuse. An unmeasured splash of geosmin that would have you wondering if someone pranked the perfumer by sabotaging their pipettes or loosening the lids on their essential oil containers. Une Île Pluvieuse or A Rainy Island by Senyokô is supposed to elicit being by the sea on a Japanese island during a rainy day, and I must say the scent captures the subject matter quite literally... Maybe too literally. Une Île Pluvieuse comes out of the sprayer quite loud with a noticable salty geosmin and underdog grapefruit that seems at first harmless but as the perfume settles it takes a turn into a bitter, thick and more salinated, humid, vegetal, funk that has a very minty, briny and heavily camphorated density, smelling like bitter licorice or fennel seed. A clashing and murky, seaweedy, dark green and brown sensation is present that feels like an over-application of bitter, green and greasy, fatty violet leaf and cold, herbal, moldy patchouli. I suspect some unlisted calone also exists. For me the perfume becomes too much, too fast as if the island is being met by a typhoon that is pulling trees out of the ground and flipping cars and street vendors over onto their sides. The smells of emptied gasoline and cooking oil flow into the streets mixing with the salty rushes of sea floods and dirty water that have taken over the city. Wearing it turns my stomach and provokes a significant gag reflex I cannot deny. Similarly to how a heavy hand of calone, metallic notes or synthetic fruit accords feel. About as quickly as it settles my appetite is ruined for at least a couple of hours. If I decide to persist my body starts to heat up and I start to get a little nauseous as a result of me resisting my gag reflexes. For me it is a losing battle. I have not been able to persist wearing this perfume once. I've had my samples since the beginning of the summer. I have only ever tested Une Île Pluvieuse twice to see how it develops but I have failed to commit more than 45 minutes or an hour to it, so I cannot comment reliably on performance but sillage is quite substantial. I cannot deny that I am severely challenged and very sensitive to the volume of some of the aroma-chemicals used in Une Île Pluvieuse. To me this fragrance is the definition of bottom-heavy and opaque. A very humid, earthy, bitter and much overdone impressionist perfume. One that comes across massively unbalanced and lacking a much needed subtlety to properly display the calm of a light rain on the beach of an island. Test Une Île Pluvieuse for yourself! If the perfume were less crude, chaotic, more nuanced and softer I would have loved to give this a better rating. I see massive potential in a creation and concept like this but the talent for blending to execute such a concept is lacking. I could see this perfume maybe being the benchmark for some people as a petrichor based perfume. 5/10

I would have never looked at these notes and tried this myself, this was a free sample included with an order. I smell Oakmoss, Patchouli and Violet strongly, these are 3 of my least favorite notes (when being the star, subtle oakmoss and patch in a base is totally fine) so this isn't for me, but if you like those notes you might love this one.

It’s an interesting fragrance. I don’t actually like it but, that said, I can’t stop sniffing it. The silly price would put me off buying it anyway.

I hate to say that this smells like a fragranced bathroom. There's just something mossy-moldy about it.

There is something rice wine and paper about this scent. It’s beautiful without being overwhelmingly floral or feminine. It smells elegant and sophisticated. To me it definitely does not smell like rain or sea (I get no aquatic notes at all), but I love it and, more importantly, it intrigues me— it’s interesting and goes in an interesting, appealing journey as it changes on my skin.

A nice and modern fragrance. I want it :))
