Nuit de Cellophane

Just an update on my previous review after full spraying from my now purchased bottle . Opening notes are mainly Osmanthus on my skin, I don’t find it weaving any apricot nuances . Just a noticeable Osmanthus with a touch of spice . Maybe the light , spicy notes come from the carnation . Anyway , this distinct scent lasts at least half an hour . And it’s HEADY! Don’t bypass this scent while it’s in this opening stage . Then the fresh, green lightness of the florals - the Jasmine and Lily come through. I believe there are added aldehydes despite it not being mentioned in the perfume notes . The reason being is that the scent exudes such cool , soapy like freshness which some reviewers mention resemble shampoo . Or is it Serge’s metallic , icy floral trend such as with La Vierge de Fer? Whatever it is, this frostiness sets it apart from mainstream fruity , white florals and I love it ! To me , the musk is quite minimal , just enough to give it a slight powdery depth without smelling like powder. Almond and woody notes are hardly noticeable . Nothing indolic/ animalic or cloying . Just how I like it. I don’t get warmth, as mentioned this is a cool scent to me . Like an icy , cold freshness . The right amount of sweetness from the honey and the plummy fruits . It’s all well blended and I’m in love with this floral scent . Wish I tried it earlier . It’s summer now and it’s such an easy go to fragrance . Not offensive , can be worn in the office actually anywhere cause who ever complained of a clean , just showered , light floral . Don’t laugh 😂 but I find this fragrance very sexy . Just like being soapy clean ready for intimacy . I’m just not a fan of sweaty , natural odours 😆 Lots of talk about this being too simple/ boring for Serge Lutens perfume house but I would like to think there is a market for everyone . Don’t like complex , unusual notes ruining it for me . I put it down to it being “ more wearable” than a few of his other edgier , complex scents and that to me is a good thing . This is a classic beauty , timeless , pure and innocent . Yet not only for the young . I’m in my 50s and this personifies refinement and class to me . Quality ingredients and definitely not synthetic smelling . Just bought another bottle , this time 100mls as it’s becoming my daily summer scent and my original 50 mls is half gone 💓

This was my first whiff of any SL scent. *Thanks Weegee, for the sample!* I was intruiged by the name, more than the notes: Night of Cellophane (plastic), and actually wore it for the first time to ring in 2011 at Midnight! I expected something synthetic and sheer with some dark shadowy feeling, but this is anything but... This opens sweetly but brightly, like cellophane; but is nowhere near synthetic or "plasticy". As it evolves, the heady rich osmanthus and the light but sexy jasmine come strolling through without a care in the world! I guess considering how rich these flowers actually are; here they are sort of sheer, but they are very, very well-blended with the bright and refreshing mandarin orange keeping it sweet, but light and playful. No heartnotes or base is listed; but there just have to be more in this, than only these three. It is rather linear after the flowers arrive, but I detect something lightly musky and somewhat earthy here...it did not last all that long, but while it did: it is enticing and absolutely wonderful! Very sultry, she is and also quite elegant. Despite the name, I think it would be a good scent for the spring or even early to mid-autumn. It is not just an evening scent either, would set a very nice tone for a dinner out in a nice dress. Perhaps, with some light patchouli or a woody scent layered with it: more masculine, something nice for a guy. Just by itself, though; it is very feminine. Even dreamy... Sillage: average Longevity: fair Overall: 3.25/5 I never know what to make of SL perfumes! They are niche and luxe, without a doubt. For those prices though, I expect a little more sillage and lifespan! Part of me thinks: "He is only in it for the money!". Then (usually after sniffing one) I think: "Man, he IS good!". I am dying to try Muscs de Kublai Khan, and think if any of them is worth a FB purchase; it will be THAT one!! I have a small spray of 5 O'Clock Eau Gingembre, and a large sample of Mandarin Mandarine already, besides this one; but think I will reserve any further judgement on this House until I sniff a few more of its scents....

I just received my order of this, blind bought based on notes & reviews & familiarity with a few other SL. I love it ... I read a lot of the reviews prior. It smell’s exactly like I imagined & wanted. It’s prob my new signature for day at least. I think it will work well for fall actually. It just smells youthful but sophisticated to me, like this will complete most daily fashion looks, smells like: high fashion, well blended, not too strong or sweet or fruity ... & I think that was the overall vibe SL was going for. It works. Like as I’m wearing it in my pjs, no makeup, it makes me feel like I have my makeup on & my hair is shampooed & styled & I’m wearing the best lotion & skincare products ... It’s more youthful to me than Narciso Ambree which I’ve been wearing lately since got that a few days ago. That’s pretyy mature on me. & I’m 35 ... This is just very easy to wear with anything, & that’s what I wanted in a signature that I will constantly grab. I wanted something that made me feel like a pretty, mature but youthful woman who is styled & put together. I think it will be pretty lightly misted all over in my hair also. It makes me feel sexy just because it’s giving a strong, stylish vibe. I might even consider wearing it on a first date because it’s also kind of playful & pretty so far. I think it can be for evening. I might be the only one who sorta detects an evening formal feeling also. Fun & cute for a date, I think men would love it. This is prob the only perfume out of my growing collection, I wanna wear with everything now. Hooray! It seems to work really well with my chemistry right now, super chic ... & can go day to evening. I will update when learn how long it lasts. Sillage seems good so far ...

I gave up on Serge Lutens fragrances awhile back due to its edgy notes and extreme potency on my skin . Projection and longevity were always astounding. I understood and admired their quality but I personally couldn’t pull off a lot of his fragrances . Too many unusual spices / resins for my tastes . Out of the blue, I decided to try Nuit de Cellophane at the department store .Being a green, white floral lover , it was on my “ to try list “ and it always came up as a recommendation from Fragrantica. I was so pleasantly surprised ! What a a pretty , fresh, clean floral with depth. Not groundbreaking but of quality composition . Wow! I was hooked ! Loved it so much that I bought a bottle . It’s just my cup of tea. On my skin , this arms’s length scent has great longevity . Its freshness never makes this a heavy scent and I can still smell the fragrance 8 hrs later. The freshness , I believe comes from the Lily , green notes and the orange . I agree with a few reviewers that the name is ambiguous . This is a delicate , light scent for me . Better suited as a day scent so not sure why it’s named Night ? Transparent night ? I do agree it’s a sheer scent though . However , I don’t agree with the fragrance being similar to J’adore . I buy J’adore for my mum twice a year. Its has been her signature scent for over twenty years . It’s not for me as a perfume but I order this creamy beauty as the fragrance in my candles . Upon smelling NdC, J’adore never came to mind maybe because this is of a lighter formulation with honey and Osmanthus . ( though the Osmanthus doesn’t turn too peachy on me )

I was initially undecided about this the first time I wore it. I thought it was pretty but nothing special. Then the next time I wore it I fell in love with its elegant simplicity and effortless uncomplicated style. This is lightly fruity, and just a smidgeon soapy making it clean and fresh, with beautiful florals, predominantly osmanthus, leading the pack, and the delicious, almond note I loved in Datura Noir. Fortunately, this doesn't have the vanilla note of that scent, which I actually prefer. Though woody notes are listed I do not smell anything woody at all, but this did last a good six hours so there must be a solid base supporting it all. And maybe my nose is off, but I don't smell cellophane or anything plastic either - at least not in the sample I tried. The name might be a figure of speech though, for us to imagine a florist bouquet of flowers wrapped in cellophane. Whatever the case, I'll soon find out for sure with the bottle I have coming from Jomashop, who had this on sale for $67 for 100ml. So, of course I couldn't pass up a deal like that. I'll update this review if I do smell cellophane or anything plastic after the bottle arrives. 8/2/26 - I never did and still don't smell cellophane but did want to comment that this wears beautifully in hot, humid weather. The white florals of lily and jasmine really come though then, and it develops a little bit of a beachy feel. It's hard to find fragrances that wear well in very hot weather that don't disappear, so it's a nice surprise to find one that does.

On the first glance Nuit de Cellophane may seem boring, pedestrian and juvenile. But the more I smell it, the more nuances I get, the more nostalgia, memories it brings in, the more it envelops into a truly feminine, poetic piece. Adorable, demure, archetypical, nostalgic, even softly melancholic. On one side it's a beautiful summer night, soft scent of a body cream, wavy hair just washed, a long silk skirt...on the other side it's poetry, a mystical tale of womanhood told in the softest way. In its core it reminds me of those perfumes that somehow stick to a person, reminding of him, they smell slightly weird, unique, sometimes even unpleasant, but captivating. Smelling this, I feel like a young girl watching my mother doing all those beautiful, relaxed rituals of beauty and thinking to myself I want to be like her someday. To me it also embodies that all beauty is ephemeral, finite, which evokes a certain melancholia, and for this reason must be appreciated while it lasts. Nuit de Cellophane smells quite different on the skin and on clothes. On clothes it is quite proper, shampoo-ish, on the skin - sensual. It is a very unique perfume, I can't compare it with anything else. The vastly compared J'Adore seems to be much more perfumey, I don't like it, it doesn't present that beautiful softness. Osmanthus, lily, jasmine and some fruity notes are the main characters here.

Be careful of buying any Serge Lutens bottles from eBay . The bottles are not sealed and can be tampered with. I purchased a few from 5 star sellers and they had no scent. One had a very faint smell that was gone in a few minutes. There are millions of scammers on eBay. I’ve been buying on eBay since 2001, and I’ve seen it get much worse over the years. eBay also makes it impossible to return perfumes due to safety reasons . They make you prove it’s fake. If you’re buying a cheap sample, they’ll accept a return but an expensive bottle they will give you a very hard time. But it goes both ways, I’ve sold on Mercari and scammer buyers will buy an expensive perfume, empty it and return water in bottle. Or they will empty the perfume into another bottle and break the original bottle and claim it was damaged in mail. Scammers are despicable. They’re hurting small business. Anyway I just wanted to come here and share this. As for me I would never buy any perfume on eBay, unless it’s a sealed official brand sample. I also make sure to be very familiar with the scent beforehand .

I find it too sweet. The floral and fruit notes feel almost inebriating to me. I don’t think it smells like shampoo or shower gel. I’d like to layer it with something woody or leathery. Let’s see... Update: 1) I layered it with a dry leather scent, and that worked out well for a impactful night out. 2) However, I have also tried wearing it pure but with less sprays and underneath the clothes, which I loved, because I feel like it hided the “too sweet” aspect of it, and felt way more clean and office friendly. 3) Final edit: okay, I finally got its complexity. Just wear this on a hot and humid day and you will get most interesting fuzzy, textured, avant-garde, chic interpretation of florals. The same happened with Fleurs dOranger. If you give to these “simple” SL scents enough time and heat, they bloom to their complexity. They are just hiding their weirdness behind a thick layer of prettiness

I have always loved this fragrance. Such a soft floral on me and lasts all day. I finally found it again at a discount website because I was running low and wanted to have another bottle in my collection. It isn’t easy to find, wow except for the Serge Lutens website where it was very pricey....well I love this so much I may have paid that price lol. I have always loved Serge scents they are definitely unusual to me and have a special place in my heart because they were the first niche fragrances I had purchased. So with this scent it is the one I love the most. This is a spring summer favorite of mine and the longevity is long on me up to 9 hours. the Jasmine and osmanthus stick out on me but not in a sharp way very soft and comforting. Gives me yellow floral vibes almost beachy but not suntan scent. Can’t wait to wear to again.

This smells like really nice hair product. A little floral, a little juicy, very clean. There is something distinct about the aromachemicals in hair product that just has a distinct signature about it, and this scent DNA of hair products smells distinct from perfume scents. But this fragrance captures that hair product smell so well. This is unique to me, but my hair texture just does not hold shampoo/conditioner/product scents the way other people's hair does. My hair smells like nothing, always. So this perfume hits the spot in a very personal way, and I can finally have that beautiful hair care product smell I've long admired in others and wished I could have :) I think this is a great year round scent, but especially nice for spring and summer. And a great office scent.

Makes you smell like you just stepped out of the shower all day. Apparently some people don't like smelling like they had a shower. Fine, you do you. (joking) This freshness isn't just because there's a soapy smell or because it has notes often used in soap and shampoo. I swear there is something in white floras which opens up the airways like olbas oil. You get the effect of a sort of minty freshness without any mint. Smells like a cold fresh air as well as the listed notes. Likely they are using the same tactics with scent that detergent companies use to keep your clothes smelling fresh all day and I'm here for it. Anyway, the feeling I'm looking for in my white florals right now is "haunting" and this is a bit too nice and fruity for that, but nearly there.

I love this perfume and the more I wear it the more I love it. First spray is white flowers and pink bubblegum like the old bubble tape I chewed as a kid but that only lasts while it is wet. Once it dries it's this beautiful clean white floral smell. Like a very expensive soap. And I like smelling like that. I love clean scents and scents like you just stepped out of the shower with freshly shampooed damp hair. I usually spray once on each wrist and once on my shirt and it lasts for a good 4 hours until it starts to fade. I don't think anyone would be offended by smelling this on you so could wear in any environment. It's not boring to me. I feel clean and pretty when I wear this. Just ordered another bottle because I can't get enough of it.

This is such a bright, feel-good type of scent. I wouldn't consider it fresh, but it definitely has a clean, dewy and airy vibe to it. A quality floral shampoo with a slight tart and peachy (not the smell of peach, more a peachy vibe) topping coming from the osmanthus, backed up by an airy smoothness in the base. The delicate creamy smoothness is vaguely more apparent as it dries down. When you get close enough to get a waft of someone's hair to discover how clean and pretty they smell, and it instantly puts a smile on your face; that is what Nuit de Cellophane feels like. An uplifting and bubbly scent, not in a little girl type of way, but more so a youthful sophistication.

I enjoy this fragrance immensely - it reminds me quite a bit of Michael Kors Very Hollywood Sparkling. It is just so completely pleasant, and not difficult to enjoy like some niche fragrances can be. A lot of niche perfumes speaks to your mind, to knowledge of perfume history and perfume making, and they can be an acquired taste. This one is not difficult at all, it speaks directly to your senses. It is bold, bright and warm, white floral, sweet, and wonderful. Do give it a chance, it has the potential to make you happy :-)

I know the niche perfume community tends to frown on pretty in favor of interesting but damn it, interesting doesn't wear well on me. I want a complex, spicy scent but they don't work. With that said, I adore NDC! Yes, it's a pretty floral but it's not typical at all. Its well done and I find it has a "curious" quality in that there's something that keeps you sniffing, trying to figure out what it is that makes this pretty floral so special. I've been wearing floral all my life but this one stands out. Very well done.

I totally agree with comments below about Japan/Korean shampoo smells. It really does smell like it and it reminds me of getting clean and dressed up to hang out with my friends after using Korean shampoo. This is a nostalgic scent to me and I think it is very pleasing for anyone. This is not offensive at all. I recommend if you want a great daytime scent for everyday including work. This is a clean, floral/fruity, that is youthful and bright without being cheap. It is good quality!

Fresh cut grass, freshly blooming flowers (clean/none indolic jasmine, osmanthus and carnation mostly), and honey, all in abundance. Definitely get a heavy blast of oranges in the opening, but it settles/mixes nicely with the other notes into the background. Very beautiful scent. Perfectly blended notes. Uncle Serge rarely fails me!! My favourite perfume house. I love this! Truly. It suits me perfectly and will be a fantastic spring/summer favourite.

It may smell synthetic, it may even smell cheap, but it`s GORGEOUS! Fresh opening of sheer and immaculate white flowers with a subtle trace of musk in the dry down. It`s like a Photoshoped cover of a beauty magazine: you know it is not real, but you admire it anyway. Lutens has created the perfect synthetic bouquet, and the result is great! For all who love clean smelling perfumes, this is a must try.

The reviews are correct. This does smell like a 90's shampoo. Wish I liked this more. UPDATE: I take it all back. I now adore this fragrance. It took a minute, but now I see the beauty of NDC. It’s the most lovely synthetic clean scent with a very soft and enveloping quality. Fluffy white musk with detergent. SL executes white florals in such an exceptional fashion, and NDC is certainly no exception.

I love this fragrance. It's juicy fruits supported by heady white florals makes it truly swoon-worthy. The opening is brief and to die for, albeit a bit too short lived in my opinion. It dries down to a soft and clean soapy smell. Even though it doesn't project as much as I would like, I still adore it. I'll just re-apply as needed - if for no other reason than that completely brilliant opening!

It is a love from the first sniff❤️ In windy weather NdC makes you feel like all the flowers of this world are dancing around you with the rhythm of the music, I can literally hear Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of Flowers on the background. NdC is very bright, incredibly beautiful and inspiring fragrance that makes me feel happy, beautiful and special at the same time, as nothing else does smell like NdC🥰

For me it smells more like body care fragrance than a perfume. Clean, girly, inoffensive scent. It starts with gentle blend of soft osmantus with peony. Then transforms into peony-rose composition reminding me a lot of “rose body scrub” by Dove. Sad that this is very intimate scent and it lives less than 20 minutes on my skin. Clothes can hold this scent little bit longer though.

Synthetic but not messy. Clean but not boring. Simple but still luxurious. If you are looking for a nice fruity floral that smells like luxury shampoo, this is it. It’s great for hot days when you want to smell simple and clean but still classy. It has a bit of a cooling effect to me, so it’s refreshing in hot weather and even more icy in cold weather. Great all rounder.

Lovely fragrance, daft name. It does indeed smell like a cellophane-wrapped bouquet of flowers, very fresh, very green, very glittering. Lovely for summer days - this isn't an evening or night scent, it's very matinal, clean-smelling and fresh - the sort of things I'd wear to choir. Not at all typical of the Serge Lutens line.

This one starts interesting and slowly develops into something completely different... Right now I get the pleasant smell of women's makeup, it has nothing to do with flowers nor cellophane. I love the femineity that comes with the scent... Perhaps an alternative for those who consider a powdery scent too trite? ****

it's provocatively pretty and that is what makes it niche. It's so pretty ,it makes it feel like a guilty pleasure.I get the cellophane concept. Nothing in nature can smell so pretty hence the cellophane .Though there is a plasticine vibe after an hour or so....who knows

Simple but stunning, this fragrance reveals a gossamer osmanthus fruity floral that's like a classy 90s hairspray version of sunshine in a bottle. An easy wear in the summer.

This is nice and fresh, however every time I spray it on, it just reminds me of hairspray. It's nice but not worth the price. It's not the SL fragrance that I reach for.

floral, fruity and honey notes pull strong on me with this. I stand alone when I say this, but I love it! Doesn't last the longest, but it's just nice.

sure, might not be as complex and layered as others from this amazing house. but it is still a marvelous white floral that i cant stop sniffing.

The beginning is a bit too powdery, but the drydown, oh the drydown...it delights me, i can't stop sniffing it, very nice scent!

It smells 'nice' but like a Korean shampoo. I feel like you would have come across scents like these in a supermarket shampoo.

I don't think a human lady wearing this fragrance. It has a surrealistic beauty. A sheer delight of dawn.

Nuit de Cellophane was released in 2009 and its name means, in English, "Night of Cellophane". Is another one of the few fragrances of the House that were created just for women. However, once again, this is a perfectly sharable perfume. Serge Lutens defines its concept saying: "When beneath its cellophane, Haute Couture was but yet an idea...From the tight clusters of its petals bursts the scent of jasmine laced with mandarin orange". Nuit de Cellophane has in its composition green notes, Mandarin orange zest, mandarin essential oil, jasmine Sambac, Osmanthus, carnation, lilies, musks, sandalwood, almonds, and honey. On the skin, it results in a clean floral with a daytime aspect. At first, it looks like a high-quality shampoo, like those that perfume the long and well-treated hair of the models in the TV commercials. There is a very nice cleaning aspect. As it develops, its fragrance becomes floral-fruity, with a pleasant aroma of apricots and jasmine. For those who don't know, the osmanthus flower results in this nuance of apricots. Finally, in a simple and fast evolution, Nuit de Cellophane shows itself as a white floral bouquet, which is light and elegant at the same time. Don't expect a carnal bouquet with the scent of tuberoses and jasmine, for instance. The impression I have is that Serge tried to bottle the smell of well-prepared bouquets wrapped by the transparent cellophane, which protects the flowers and retains their fragrances. The lasting is wonderful, even for a light fragrance. Remembering that light doesn't mean soft, right? My only problem is with the name since I do not interpret this scent like a nocturnal perfume. Maybe Jour de Cellophane would be the most appropriate choice, in my opinion.

A beautiful fragrance with a terrible name. This is a very "safe" floral. Flowers safely wrapped in cellophane. I don't care for a lot of mixed white florals as they can be overpowering to my nose (and can even make me sneeze) but this is beautifully done. I happen to love osmanthus, mandarine and musk...so this makes it an easy winner for me. The jasmine doesn't overpower as it often does in a lot of fragrances. Neither does the tuberose.This is a well blended softened floral. There is nothing especially thrilling about it but sometimes you just aren't aren't looking for a thrill in a fragrance. You simply just want something pretty. And with Nuit de Cellophane that is exactly what you get. A safe, pretty floral. I do not get the "night" part in the name though...this smells like a fresh daytime floral to me. Nuit de Cellphone is probably not anything I would ever actually purchase as it smells too "mixed floral" for me personally...but I have sampled it several times and enjoyed it and can see where fans of white florals would be pleased with this. I just received a number of samples from Serge Lutens yesterday and decided to wear this one today because I couldn't quite remember what it smells like...and was reminded of what a lovely, simple, non-offensive fragrance it is. I can see where it may not make enough of a statement for some..but if you are simply looking for a nice, feminine floral, this is an excellent choice.

Nuit de Cellophane is a pleasant but unexceptional floral-fruity scent, nicely composed with good quality ingredients. A cut above other scents in this category, but not groundbreaking, it is an easy-breezy sweet jasmine scent - pretty, simple and youthful, like a sweeter J'Adore Dior. I cannot understand the significance of the name - it is more of a daytime scent than "nuit" suggests, and "cellophane" likely equals transparent, but it is not light enough to warrant a transparency reference. NC opens with a sweet, fruity accord that brings to mind tinned fruit cocktail, but not in a bad way. Notes of sweet mandarin, peach and apricot are most evident, joined presently by a sweet, clean jasmine note. As it develops, the white floral accord really comes to the fore. Waxy lily and jasmine are most evident, underscored by a sweet peach-almond accord. Bold, lush and heady, it is quite pungent. As it begins to dry down, woody notes creep in, with some honey adding rich sweetness. The florals become more powdery, and it fades to a sweet musky skin scent eventually. Sillage and longevity are moderate. NC is fairly linear and predictable, but nicely put together. A sweet, youthful scent with potential mass appeal, but perhaps overpriced for what it is. A nice alternative to J'Adore, but nothing special. Likeable regardless. 3/5.

I'm testing this right now and here's what this fragrance is conjuring up in my mind as I smell it: Imagine that you've taken a shower, used a nice floral-fruity shampoo, dried and styled your hair, maybe even applied some floral-fruity hair product on top of everything. Then later that day it starts raining and your hair gets a little wet and as soon as you get yourself indoors again you start getting little wafts of the same floral-fruity smell reminiscent of your shampoo and hair spray. Somehow getting your hair wet again seems to have reactivated the fragrance and you find yourself pleasantly surprised by how mellow and comforting it seems when it's muted and dispersed by the warmth of your body and the natural oils of your skin. How pleasant and evocative this feels! Which is why it's so surprising that when I try to analyze the notes, I can't pick up on anything in particular other than osmanthus in a little cloud of nondescript barely there fruity and flowery notes. It seems nice and even simple in its soapiness. Or maybe deceptively simple? To me this is the type of fragrance that I would want to smell once in a while to give my olfactory brain something to think about, but I don't necessarily see myself wearing this as a perfume.

I am undecided about this one. I smelled it several times on a blotter before testing it on skin, and it seems like two different fragrances! On a blotter, I smelt a lot of fruit and citrus with a hint of white flowers, yummy. On my skin, however, the opening was quite unpleasant. I cannot even describe the notes, it was just something sharp, as if a pot with a mixture of all the notes has been splashed onto my wrist. Luckily it was gone in ten minutes. In the next two hours I smelt a lot of chemical white flowers, air freshener type. I almost wanted to wash it off, but luckily I waited - and 2.5 hours later I suddenly felt a breeze of fresh dewy jasmine - and the sour jummy fruits were back! The fruity notes disappeared again an hour later, and now I can only smell tender dewy jasmine (there might be other notes in there, but my nose is not good enough to distinguish them). I keep smelling my wrist, but overall I think jasmine is just not my style. I love the drydown, but the first two hours were rather trying on me. The lasting power is quite good: 6 hours and still going strong (from one spray on the wrist). The sillage is good as well, as I can smell it without bringing my hand to my nose even now.

Nuit de Cellophane by Serge Lutens was surprisingly a slow burn for me giving that it ultimately is a clean shampoo-type floral. I initially dismissed it and tossed my sample into the 'no' pile; yay, another boring jasmine. My recent revisit was motivated by a recent floral obsession, so certain fragrances that were at one time too floral or too vintage are suddenly all I want to smell. So, why do I like NdC? First, the osmanthus note is probably the most realistic/natural I've smelled. Osmanthus is supposed to be a bright, apricot-y floral, but there is a plasticy suede accord in most fragrances with the note, which, in my opinion, ruins it. NdC does not smell of plastic or cellophane, but there is a hot, freshly-pressed polymer aspect that reminds me to hot hair or fabric. Next, while I agree that NdC is 'basic', it feels elegant enough to cross the line from basic to classic. It could pass for a J'Adore flanker. It makes me think of someone who just got ready for a night out. They took a shower, liberally used the hair dryer and then hot rollered or flat ironed their hair, finished off the hair with a little hair spray, and then, of coursed, spritzed on a little J'Adore before heading out.

I like Nuit de Cellophane, but it is nothing to write home about. It's your typical fruity floral and that isn't really my style of fragrance to be honest. I was hoping that this perfume would be more jasmine and white floral forward, but it wears off within the first 90 minutes (though a lovely 90 minutes it is) of wear time. After that, I mainly smell the fruity notes, (whatever that is) the osmanthus and the mandarin. I smell a touch of the honey at the end too, but that is about it. I really do get those shampoo and hairspray vibes other people are talking about, though very luxury shampoo and hairspray vibes. Wear time was also solid, but not beast mode either 5 hours on my skin. I also got about moderate projection on me. The vibes it gives are very spring/summer and would be something you'd wear strictly during the day only. It is sunny and happy, but not particularly interesting or groundbreaking. I like Fleurs D'oranger much better than this fragrance and I feel like Nuit de Cellophane reminds me of a poor man's Jasmin Des Anges by Christian Dior. This and everything above is why I'd rate Nuit de Cellophane a 7/10: nice but nothing unique or special.

Nuit de Cellophane stands out from the Serge Lutens line, as it's a true fruity floral. No warm spicy notes, nothing really weird, it smells more like a designer fragrance. But that doesn't mean it's bad or generic, I think it's a good take on the fruity floral genre. The main notes to me are lily and jasmine with a mix of sweet orange fruits like peaches and mandarines, must be the osmanthus that makes it smell like peach or apricot. I think the name is quite fitting, it does smell like the fruit and flower bouquet was just unwrapped from cellophane foil. There is something plasticy in it. Also it's very clean, a fresh-out-the-shower scent. Yes, it's kind of a shampoo fragrance, but it has some mystery to it. A peppery note from the lily, a creamy note in the drydown... Safe and easy to wear (except for those who get a headache from lilies), but not too boring. I personally like the fruity, plasticy opening a lot, but in the drydown the fragrance is too cold and soapy for me, it even gets a little sharp on my skin, which it doesn't do on the blotter.

I got the Collection Noire discovery set, trying each of the 8 fragrances one/week. Since the scents are in vials I transferred them to standard spray bottles, though the quality of the spray head could be better. I apply my scents after using some unscented body oil on the application spots. 🛀🧼🤍💆♀️💮 Last night I decided to test Nuit de Cellophane this week, right after taking a shower. I'm going into these scents blind - didn't look into notes or reviews. My boyfriend was curious about the scent so he asked me to spray a little. To our surprise it smelled very similar to my shower gel! I'm wearing it to work today, and based on last night's experience I didn't put on my usual old spice deodorants, opted for a more neutral scented garnier. I honestly can't tell if I'm smelling the deo or the perfume. I can see people enjoying this, since the scent itself is very nice and comfy, but to me this scent is achievable through shower gels/laundry detergent/deodorant. Overall it's a very pleasant, flowery and clean scent.

Fruity, white flower, then the carnation adds some sharpness to it. Then there is a soapy-ness to it, which isn't the clean musky soaps I'm acquainted with -no it's actually more like hairspray. And then the lily, it's so very loud. I admire a lily, it reminds me of my mom and of my childhood. Here it is overwhelming. For the first hour this is quite headache inducing. But it does tame itself and the white florals relax and blur into one another. When the softness settles, it is quite delicate and feminine. I love the top notes in this, but they dissipate too quickly. Overall, a decent soapy fragrance. 6.5/10

Strange scent. I went into the store to sample De Profundis. The one they had was the black bottle, and I really didn't like it. But I was curious about this one, and was captivated by it on the perfume paper. I think the name is fitting in hinting that this won't be a "natural" fragrance. There is floral grounding the scent, but also a plasticy quality to it--like a little plastic sachet for a designer shampoo sample--and a subtle though sharper green note that doesn't smell like grass or earth or leaves, but like the chemically treated stems of a florists bouquet. Unfortunately, it smells exceedingly better on paper, and mostly just like shampoo or drugstore products on skin. :/ It's a very public-friendly scent, and I plan to use my little vial for "boring" days that don't deserve one of my better perfumes!

The smell of osmanthus flowers always reminds me of Taiwan. It’s deeply tied to, I dunno, traditional Taiwanese activities like looking at the moon and drinking tea (sounds stereotypical but honestly, true). And I’ve always wanted a very true osmanthus-jasmine-tea-incense perfume to take me back to the (olfactory) shores of Taiwan. Serge Lutens’ Nuit de Cellophane doesn’t quite get there because the osmanthus falls flat upon dry down, and the jasmine doesn’t radiate like a humid summer night, and I see what people mean by shampoo, by clean laundry musk, by linens. I’m looking to be engulfed by warm summer nights so humid, you could swallow the air. I’ll keep looking, but I’ll enjoy using up the sample for that first beautiful blast of white florals that seemed so promising initially.

My mum's signature scent has always been J'adore Dior. I picked up Nuit de Cellophane from El Corte Ingles in Barcelona on a trip with some friends after having taken a fancy to it and thinking it smelled like something familiar. Turns out it smells exactly like my mum when she wears J'adore Dior. It's a delicate scent with to be honest, for the price point, pretty poor longevity... but I still love it and reach out for it on special occasions where I feel like a more polite scent is needed. It's best described as a sweet floral musk with a slight creaminess to it. Almost smells like a luxury body moisturiser. I think the name is fitting for something which feels like a thin veil of scent, delicate and works perfectly on a humid summer night.

The opening is very pleasant and ethereal due to the combination of the white florals (Osmanthus, Jasmine and Lily). It gives off an airy vibe which comes off very naturally. Some would consider the opening to err onto the feminine side of things, but I feel the dry down becomes more unisex. The dry down consists of the fruity notes (some sort of berries?) and musk to give it a snuggly floral vibe. The performance is pretty average, I get around 3-4 hours and leave a light scent trail. I suggest wearing this during the spring/summer seasons and during the day, as the scent can be a bit fleeting. Overall, I highly recommend this perfume but don’t pay full price for it (it’s not worth it), try get it from a discounter if you can.

This is truly an exercise in subtlety. Yet it does not smell like anything else. It is peppery carnation, fresh green, osmanthus, a breath of jasmine, a drop of sweet honey, with a bit of lily dust and soft musk to hold together. It is a quiet, delicate work of art, for the person who wants to keep her (or his) little secret, that they are wearing something special. Not for the person who wants to announce their presence before they have stepped into a room. I think that winter is not the best season; I think this is an ideal early March through end of April scent. While it does not smell like Daim Blond, you can easily conclude, if you smell them one after the other, that they were developed by the same mind.
