Macbeth

Where to start with this gorgeous concoction! Well, first its super high quality in ingredients and super oily. Secondly it has a polite, strong but not OTT sillage that lasts 10-15 hours in a linear fashion. Something hard to find. What is it - a super textured rich lavender/fougere with old school gentlemans barber shop appeal. A deep super dark and lush lavender (not bright and airy) soaked in musk and oakmoss - despite detecting musk it by no means overrides anything - its like a pizza base, its obvious and you know its there but the ingredients on top are what make the ride... The airiness and brightness is achieved with super oily citrus that whilst you know its there its the lavender and complimentary ingredients that make it fun. After 30 minutes the drydown has hut a subtle change on me where maybe a slight woodiness comes available to body the scent out even more. Whats amazing it that somehow all the accompanying ingredients somehow make this a buzzing mashed up dark greeness smothered over the top as well, just enough that it gives you a buzz letting you know this wasnt just a couple of ingredients slapped together. This stands above most in this category but if you like basics like Horizon, Drakkar Noir or more sophisticated like Serge Lutens Fourreau Noir, Bond No.9 Harrods fo Him as opposed to TF Lavender Extreme or Hermetica Lavincense this is a great undiscovered winner - from Australia too!

Wow! Serendipitous blind buy after so many duds... Fantastic old school aromatic barbershop - slightly soapy after the first hour. Fantastic. Lemon, herbaceous opening for first hour reminiscent of say - Eau Sauvage minus the darker aspect, evolves to a slight soapy piquant lemon, orange, herbaceous, with lily of the valley and a touch of vanilla on the longer drydown. At first there is a slight but definite camphorous burst with a touch of mint - I can’t see how it figures in the notes - after 2 hours the mint disappears after leaving a camphorous tinge with a slightly sticky jasmine lurking bodying out the whole experience. So - it reminds me of: 1) My fave Hermes Concentre D’Orange - less earthy and more lemony/jasmine after 2 hours 2) Alguien (a bit more distant also Fzotic Five Eau and Charenton Macerations Christopher Street) especially for the first two hours though it evolves into a toned down version of Naughton and Wilson Grabitas pour Homme) 3) Naughton & Wilson Gravitas Pour Homme Splendid - what I don’t get is the Macbeth association?

Now THIS is what I expected to find inside a bottle marked Shakespeare! I recently purchased the discovery set and was sadly disappointed by Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream; both were generic and neither afforded me any reference to the plays their names evoke. MacBeth has, however, blown me away with its innovative and evocative rendition of the infamous 'Scottish Play'. Double, double toil and trouble! Here lyeth the unearthly remains of MacBeth: soldier, murderer, traitor and King for a day. Smoky, pungent, the fields of Dark Aged Scotland hurtle themselves to the fore. Colour me impressed. There's something sharp and acrid. A person must possess a certain amount of bravery to sport a scent like this. Like it's namesake, MacBeth is not for the faint hearted.

I pick up a slight vanilla note. Reminds me of the smell of a religious ceremony if that makes any scene. It’s a longer lasting ,deeper and richer creed Viking. 8/10

This is a really interesting fragrance. I definitely like it, however, it is extremely loud in the opening and early mid, so be wary with how much you spray, as this can be overpowering for some. Nevertheless, this is a nice barbershop-fougere type fragrance that many people will like. Definitely for a more mature audience in my opinion. This makes you feel like a powerful politician? I don’t really know why, it just does.
