Rose Royale

Rose Royal Shiseido - like a thin ozone elusive breath from the garden of Eden. This is perhaps the best rose i've ever tried. It not oil, not retro and not lipstick. The Rose here is natural, real & multi-faceted. I will try to describe it : this rose all the time plays then she is thin and transparent, then velvet, captivatingly maroon, and sometimes she tea-peachy with a slight hue of powder. The fragrance have a chic trail, dense and juicy. And the stunning perfume-bottle is actually lighter than in the picture.

Shiseido’s “Rose Royale” starts as a transparent and pretty rose/ magnolia-combo. It comes across as natural, with very little sweetness and has a strong amber base that permeates the florals from the very beginning. About 10 minutes in, while the warm spicy undercurrent remains, the fragrance suddenly turns very cold and very pretty, just as if white roses started to come through instead of previously dominant yellow ones. Within the first hour, that cool spiciness increases even further as the fragrance gradually reveals its true form: this is not a rose soliflore, this is a light, floral- woody chypre! From here, light woods and almost astringent oakmoss become powerful players in this fragrance. However, 3 h later you are left with a soft, slightly soapy floral, with the initial 50:50 rose-magnolia ratio being the main note. Upon the first application I was surprised how this fragrance could be so transparent and yet so warm at the same time. Light, but mature. In this respect, „Rose Royale“ is beautifully done. It is a pretty and uncomplicated light floral chypre which matches the image of Marie-Antoinette well. Although this is more of a Marie-Antoinette wearing a simple muslin dress than a grande robe as the (stunningly beautiful!) packaging suggests. The fragrance seems to cater to a young-ish costumer; Marie-Antoinette’s life was ended when she was 38, and I would pretty much agree that this somewhat matches the target group of this fragrance: feminine people from their 20s to 40s. Overall, this is a nice, beautifully unsynthetic fragrance that I am happy to have in my collection. TD;DR: Elegantly executed light wood and rose chypre
