Old Spice Fresh

Fresh is an appropriate name. Its a fresh and clean scent but as I read more about this scent, you either only like it or you dont. I love it. Ever smell the alcohol based deodorant of the same name? Thats the smell. Like a warm and breezy spring day. Why did this have to get discontinued? It reminds me of the 90s. My dad would switch between the original Old Spice and this. While I love the original scent, Fresh is a great substitute. Especially on a warm summer night. It wont turn heads but, for people who get close to you, it will be noticed. Like the original, its a skin scent for the working man. Definitely suited for warm weather. It's both aquatic and woodsy with a hit of zest. While the original has after shave, cologne and deodorant and Pure Sport has after shave and deodorant...Fresh only has deodorant. I love wearing it but I have to at least have an after shave to slap on with it. I have a bottle from 1993 and I have to resist the urge to wear it all the time. Damn you, P & G for killing this one. Its a rare treat if you can find it. In the meantime, Gillette Cool Wave aftershave is probably the closest you can get.

I have Old Spice Fresh After Shave in a ceramic splash bottle from early 2000's and my roommate has an Old Spice White Water Cologne in a clear glass spray bottle that says (C) 1999 in our bathroom and they're two completely different scents. Fresh opens with zesty orange and lime mixed with a bitter green note. There is a nice light cedar that appears and a pretty strong salty and slightly spicy ambergris note the whole way through. It's bitter, sharp, and slightly floral, and not fruity at all. I like it but it's just something I wear around my apartment. White water is a sweet aquatic scent. There is a slight off putting herbal medicinal smell to this one. I notice a very strong mineral note that really reminds me of being at a river where the cold water is flowing over wet rocks, as well as wet wood.

For anyone who wants Old Spice Fresh after shave/ cologne: Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements "Fresco" and it is 100% identical.

Known as Whitewater here in South Africa. It opens with a strong burst of citrus, followed by a medicinal note. I'd say the medicinal note reminds me somewhat of Versace Fraiche, but it's less pronounced in Whitewater... more tolerable. I'm a convert to this aftershave- which is actually marketed (on the bottle anyway) as a cologne. And that's fitting considering the longevity is somewhere between an aftershave in this price range and a decent cologne. I splash this on my head and face after a good shave, I get just over 3.5 hours out of it. From a value for money point of view- it's superb. There'll always be room for this in my closet. Update: I have repurchased this since it was off the local market for a few years. The packaging has changed somewhat but it's still Made by P&G in Italy. It is not quite as potent as it once was the previous time I purchased it- a bit watered down. I still like it, but it's not as sharp as it once was. Some say they found the medicinal note offensive, for me it was the X-factor in this particular scent. Overall, I'm less enthusiastic about wearing this.

I can't believe I haven't thought to review this until now. My husband had it, and has had numerous products in this scent throughout the years. It's his current go-to deodorant, so I'm incredibly, thoroughly familiar with it. This is the epitome of "Fresh", indeed. It couldn't possibly be more aptly named. It's mostly citrus with some oldschool (but not fusty/"grandpa") spicy notes. It's zesty and smells of like, followed by what seems to be clove (not listed, although tons of other notes are), some kind of herb like sage, and a generally woody base. It's exceedingly clean and cooling, and mixes well with nearly everything, because it's so light and crisp, and contains commonalities with tons of other fragrances. These products never clash with other fragrances. It has a little bit of that neo-ambergris saltiness (hopefully people know what I mean by that), yet this isn't overly marine smelling. It's just right, and treads citrus+herbal+woods+fresh perfectly.

very easy, very fresh & refreshing fragrance. Safe for all ages. Especially nice when the weather gets hot but nice the whole year true. My European bottle is transparent named white water. 1 big bad point: it doesn't have any spray! Problem solved using a small pocket spray. Nothing very extraordinary but nice enough to use when not wanting to waste your brand's fragrances. It is an eau de toilette which means; 1 or 2 spray in the neck; 3,4 or 5 on your jumper. The only way to have an eau de toilette lasting while smelling it yourself. Projection is very week, sort of a Tommy Hilfiger's Tommy! Basic, neutral but nice.

Great for its price, even if it's a bit after-shavey. The opening is dominated by dry citrus notes and something piercing that smells a lot like nutmeg, it gets much better with the drydown though. It takes on a powdery, woody character after a while, which I assume is from the opoponax and cedar. A nice drugstore fragrance which I'd describe as cool and dry smelling. I prefer old spice classic over fresh, as fresh seems to be almost devoid of warmth, still a good and cheap fragrance though.

This review will be on whitewater since it appears thats what some people are using this for. I should note I have no idea what the current aftershave versions smell like, but I do have a vintage bottle when it was still sold in the states as a actually fragrance. Of course to my knowledge no longer sold in north america, but there is at least a aftershave version of it available overseas still... Its extremely caloney, quite aquatic, oceanic whatever sorta waterish fragrance sorta word you want to use for it. Its has a good amount of sweetness as well. Also something that comes to mind is actually driftwood. But... if driftwood actually smelled good. Like it reminds me of a lot of fragrances that have driftwood as a note but in this I get a soooooorta similar vibe to that, but with it actually smelling pretty pleasant. I guess a way to sorta visualize this, your in the ocean or some water lets say, now lets imagine the white(part of the)water(see what I did there?).... Imagine we dropped a sorta driftwood or something in the middle of this ocean/water whatever it is, and sorta like one of those bath bombs, it dissipates in it, and it creates some waves rushing towards us. This white foam that crashes into us actually kinda thick, but sorta sweet too. Again very caloney sorta vibe. So ya some waves of water, withe white foamy parts of the wave bringing to you that smell.. Unfortunately id like to say that at the start of this, this has a very strong synthetic/chemical/medicinal sorta kick to it, that is not pleasent up close. Maybe if you get a wiff of in the air its ok, but up close very strong alcohol, chemical sorta smell. What worse is after this goes away so does any sort of projection and you basically are left with a skin scent. I needed a good strong blast of wind to get any sort of projection out of this whatsoever. Longevity though for what its worth is good, and it easily lasted all day despite it just not projecting whatsoever. Anyway its a nice smell, and its certainly nostalgic with out smelling "old" per say that makes it kinda fun as well. Its a bummer that the projection is almost none existent besides the very opening which also happens to be the worst part.

Old Spice Fresh is actually a redux of the 1980 aftershave called Old Spice Fresh Scent. The start date for this was 8 years earlier than noted here on Fragrantica. This is a fragrance with a troubled past. Back in its day, OSF was a gentleman's aquatic, with a very clunky 1960s-style calone molecule integrated in the most archaic fashion imaginable. Needless to say, it had market share but wasn't exactly a megahit. Today, OSF enjoys a new bracket with a reformulation (mostly to suit its plastic container), and a more sophisticated audience - and it's still a tough sell! It is loaded with bitter lemon and bergamot, which dominate the first twenty minutes on skin before rich cedar and tangy ambergris step in. The citrus notes never really vanish, but hang in the background to create a "cold Atlantic sea off the rocks" effect. It smells like grey waves smashing into grey cliffs off the coast of Maine. The far drydown reveals oakmoss and powdery galbanum supporting the other notes. More of a novelty item than an everyday scent, but OSF is still very nice stuff, and I'm glad to find new 4 ounce bottles for sale at my local market.

Elaborating a bit on what Karlov said...the original Fresh Scent also came in a clear glass bottle and the cologne was electric blue! When I was about 12, I bought some for my grandpa because I thought it smelled really nice and thought the blue juice inside was cool. I'm not sure if he actually liked it or just wore it because it was a gift. I liked it well enough and bought some for myself. This was around 1988'ish. My 2nd cologne, after Brut. I think I went through two of those bottles in a couple years. Eventually moved on to original Polo and then to Drakkar lol! I liked this a lot better than the original Old Spice at the time. I'm using memory here, but I remember it smelling very fresh, soapy, basically one of the first aquatic colognes for the masses. I have not smelled the newer aftershave but, I do have fond memories of this one. I'm assuming this resembles the original Old Spice Fresh Scent of course. If that is the case, you aren't going to knock a woman's socks off wearing it, but, you will smell clean. That's kind of the point of this one.

I have adapted my shaving methods which require me to use an aftershave. I shave at night so the scent in an aftershave is not really going to impress many except my family. Besides, I don’t mind my daughter remembering her father using “Old Spice” some day in the future. I have always loved Old Spice even though it is the most unoriginal aftershave on this planet. I’m not fazed about over popularity issue – If I like a scent I will buy it, regardless. Old Spice works well for me and I enjoy the clean fresh feeling after applying it. I found a place here in South Africa that still sells it in the lovely milky white buoy shaped bottle, so I recently picked it up as I prefer the bottle over plastic. Now I will always keep a bottle of this timeless sauce in my shaving den.

OS Fresh is so good! It was my go-to deodorant and body wash in the 2000s when I was in high school, and that's what it reminds me of. I just recently bought a bottle of the original aftershave which I presume is from either the late 80s or early 90s, since it has the clear glass bottle with the green juice as opposed to the typical OS ceramic style bottles as shown above, and this particular version is mind blowing. It's not listed, but I definitely get a note that reminds me of a nice, crisp apple. Oddly enough, even though the juice is green is smells more like a red apple that I'm getting, it's not very sour like a green apple. Anyways, highly underrated juice, they should come back out with it as an aftershave.

Scent of the Day. Fresh as heck. I'm not sure I'm a fan of it, but definitely enjoyed trying it out. Kind of has a lemongrass note smell to it, although the note of lemongrass isn't noted. Fresh, but old school. Classic fresh. I do believe if the Shulton Company brought it back, there would be many fans of this masculine fresh fragrance. Interesting because I do get the opoponax note to counter the freshness. Actually a very complex aftershave. Definitely has a true 70's 80's vibe more than most classic fragrances because most men wore aftershaves back then instead of colognes.

I had OS Fresh in the late 80s and loved it. A fresh smelling aquatic that was wonderful in the warmer months when OS Classic came be too heavy. I would love to own this again. I have a bottle of OS Whitewater and it is note the same as Fresh. Whitewater is more subdued with more green notes.
