Fragrance Review: Peppery Amber by @signaturesmithen This is my first encounter of Peppery Amber from the new British indie brand Signature Smithen.The first spray was... nice, but not love-at-first-scent. There was something about the combination of pink pepper, cedarwood, and leather that gave off a slightly lemony, almost zesty leather vibe. At first, I wasn’t sure whether it was the interplay between the pepper and the wood, but I wasn’t exactly floored either. But then—oh, then—the magic happened. Within a few minutes, the rough edges softened, and Peppery Amber began to unfurl into something truly spectacular. The harshness of the first spray melted into a smooth, harmonious blend that was so irresistible I couldn’t stop sniffing my wrist. What happens next is a journey of beautiful complexity. Although tobacco isn’t listed among the notes, I swear I could sense a subtle, smoky richness creeping in, thanks to the interplay between the cedarwood and the clove. The leather—which had initially been a little sharp—became velvety and warm, wrapped in this cozy, rich texture that felt like a soft, well-worn jumoer on a chilly evening. And then, the vanilla entered the scene. Oh, that vanilla. It wasn’t the heavy, sugary kind that’s so often overdone. Instead, it was soft, enveloping, and elegant. It mingled with the leather and clove in such a balanced way that the entire composition turned into something deeply sensual, smooth, and mature. Peppery Amber manages to capture the best elements of a tobacco esq vibe and vanilla—those familiar, comforting notes we adore—while making something entirely unique. It's sweet without being cloying, warm without feeling heavy. There’s an effortless sophistication to it that I can’t quite put into words, but I know that it’s unlike anything else I’ve experienced in a long time.
