FOR BOTH AWAKE AND SLEEPING BEAUTIES In a faraway kingdom, a princess named Aurora was born, and to celebrate her birth, a feast was held. All the fairies who lived nearby were invited, and each of them was to give the princess a special magical present. All but one was invited. No one wanted to admit a very mean and ugly fairy, who frightened everyone with her mere presence. The king thought she was an evil witch. Knowing that all the other fairies were invited to celebrate the birth of Princess Aurora, the wicked sorceress decided to attend the celebration anyway. Feeling insulted by her exclusion, she did not give the princess any special gift and gave her a curse instead. On her fifteenth birthday, the princess was to put her finger in the spindle of a spinning wheel and die. However, the fairy of the night was still missing to make her wish. She could not lift the curse completely, but she managed to transform and weaken the evil spell. By pricking her finger, instead of dying, Aurora would fall into a deep sleep along with the whole kingdom for 100 years. This spell could only be undone when a clever and handsome prince passing by would fall in love with the princess and kiss her. The king, trying to prevent disaster from striking his daughter, ordered that all the spinning wheels in the kingdom should be taken away and burnt. So, the princess grew up beautiful and happy, without knowing about the curse and without ever having seen a spinning wheel. She was always under the strict watch of her godmother, the Night Fairy. The fairy looked after the young girl every morning and sprayed her with a famous potion named "Eau du Soir" crafted in the wizard school of Sisley, quite proper for such a beautiful girl of royal blood. But on her 15th birthday, the curse finally came true. The princess put her finger on the needle of a forgotten spindle and fell into a deep sleep. Some years later, a brave young prince from another kingdom, who had heard about Sleeping Beauty, travelled to her kingdom and managed to cross the dense thorn forest surrounding the castle. He found all the inhabitants fast asleep. When he faced the sleeping Aurora, he immediately fell in love with her but didn't quite know what to do. When he smelled the fragrance mist "Eau du Soir" around the princess, he could not resist at sealing her lips with a long Hollywood kiss and thus breaking the curse. When Aurora woke up and looked at the prince, she fell in love with him as well. The wedding took place a few weeks later with much joy and festivities. They lived happily ever after, and Aurora always wore "Eau du Soir" crafted Sisley, both as a princess and, later on, as a queen. "Eau du Soir" is a long-lasting Chypre fragrance that my wife chose as her signature already at the beginning of the 21st century. So far, it has not been dethroned from that top spot. The perfume is quite chic and graceful. When I first sniffed it, I immediately found it to be very classy and sophisticated. The ladies who use this perfume exude an elite aura and display an elegance that hardly can be matched by any other perfume. In this respect, it is almost flawless and a feminine confidence booster. It is versatile, ideal for the office, for a business dinner, for an evening in good company and even for cuddling up. It's just not suitable for sports or to use by the seaside. It is great for any time of year and as a day or night fragrance. The fragrance is quite complex and starts citrusy and floral. The opening orange and grapefruit notes are enhanced by pepper and Mock-Orange blossom, a flower also known as syringa or orange jasmine. This heart note has a floral scent similar to that of a fully blossomed orange tree, but more pronounced and slightly sweeter and citrusy, reminiscent of gardenia and honeysuckle. The flowers of the Mock-Orange bush attract an abundance of butterflies and bees to any garden, especially at night. It is a true "Eau du Soir" for pollinators. Along with other floral heart notes such as iris and rose, there is a distinct juniper note that adds something green to the blend and mitigates the natural sweetness of the flower notes. The base is heavenly with quality, strong oakmoss, enhanced by seductive patchouli, a hint of musk and softened by ambary It is a true love potion. It is not easy to be both fair and objective when evaluating this aristocratic fragrance: ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ - Fragrance opening: 8.5 (Citrus, floral and light green tones in a very accomplished blend). - Fragrance finish: 9.5 (Strong presence of high-quality oakmoss, enhanced by seductive patchouli, a touch of musk, and softened by amber accords). - Longevity: 9.0 (3 sprays last 9 to 10 hours). - Sillage: 8.5 (Up to 6~7 feet and 2.5~3 hours of projection with 3 sprays). - Uniqueness: 9.5 (Unique in its sophistication and elegance. Even though it's not very similar, it sometimes reminds me of the scent of Paloma Picasso's "Mon Parfum", as well as the dry down scent of "Coriandre" by Jean Couturier). - Wearability: 10.0 (I consider it both a day and night perfume; it can be used in any of the four seasons). - Versatility: 9 (It is hardly a perfume that is suitable for the beach, the gym or physical activities. It is very versatile and shines both in intimacy, at an elegant evening event, in the office or at leisure). - Praise: 9.0 (You will get many more compliments than with almost all other perfumes). - Quality: 9.5 (Almost perfect). - Presentation: 8.0 (I don't like the cap; it has a nice design but it's too big). - Price: 7.0 (The 100 ml bottle is currently sold at various internet retailers for € 120-135). ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ Overall rating: 8.86 / 10.00 - between 7 and 8 = above average; - between 8 and 9 = recommendable; - above 9 = definitely not to be missed; My opinion: This perfume is a statement of high society. It smells rich and powerful and is also an extroverted display of luxuriousness. Due to its price, I cannot recommend a blind purchase. Otherwise, it should be a must-have in the wardrobe of any lady, especially one who spends a lot of time at events and at a night out. It's a bit too "Madam" to appeal to young girls. It's also too feminine for men to use (in my humble opinion), but I like to use it from time to time in the privacy of my home when I want to enjoy the scent of this great Chypre. Class! It’s the word that best fits Eau du Soir, along with elegance. Moss bomb, at least in older formulations, EdS has retained most of its beauty but the golden thread of age erasing shows. In a nutshell, I would go with any bottle prior to 2012. Comparison between various vintages. 1990 black atomizer, the original black bottle. This is the most glorious version of it! Obviously, and just newly launched, this is oakmoss galore. Rich rose and jasmine heart, a beguiling verdancy with probably more than a little galbanum, the honeyed warmth of syringa (just like in Knowing with pitosporum), and the razor sharp bitterness of juniper. Shaving foam associations welcome. The drydown is dark moss, vetiver and sandalwood that give the ‘Soir’ its meaning! Sillage and longevity is astounding here. 2002 round purse spray, refillable. This was, supposedly, the first limited edition (2001) before the colored bottles but I’ve no proof of that. The smell is practically the same but there is diminished potency. It behaves like an edt version. Notes seem sharper but overall I still very much like it. The brightness and regal elegance that screams when it hits your skin is unmistakable. I’d love it more had it the potency of prior versions. 2004/2006 limited edition colored bottles. Here is where Sisley started tweaking almost yearly with the formula, as if to find a way to fit into IFRA and the scent. Various bottles, some with oakmoss, some with treemoss, some with both or without any, feel and smell dissonant. EdS is there but it smells like a non finished version. It’s shrill, sharp, the floral heart smells poor and it’s only saved by its characteristic juniper tang. Oakmoss varies from year to year. 2008/2011 limited edition colored bottles. Here, Sisley seems to have found a balance. It overall smells better than years before and the sillage and potency have returned. There’s more honeyed floral-ness than before, the galbanum seems absent, but the drydown brings back the signature darkness from early bottles. It’s dry but creamy, warm but still reeking of that signature opening that channels through the entire fragrance evolution. It smells complete and it’s my favorite formula after the black atomizers. 2012 onwards. And here, it’s downhill until today. With stricter restrictions in place, Eau du Soir still retains its character but it feels alien. Sharper than ever, there’s no emotion. The flowers smell wilted, the base feels like a simple white wash of musk and there’s nothing to anchor it on skin. Just like post 2016 Aromatics, both of which are highly recognizable, individual and stern, the warmth and heart are gone. Both, easily converted into signature perfumes for dynamic personalities and never forgotten, with a loyal following, remain so because of the loyalty of their followers. Smell it today and it’s a million times better than the rest of the perfume counter. Smell it for the first time and they’re stunning powerhouses among a sea of nothingness. But smell them after years of knowing them and you’ll sense the change. I’m not gonna lie, I have a 2009 turquoise/coral bottle and two 1990 black ones and I’m perfectly happy. Had I not had the opportunity to get them I would still buy the current, because even if it’s tummy tucked and lifted, it still has class, elegance, and smells infinitely better than the rest of the perfumes in a department store. And whatever reformulations, I’m positive they were made the best they could. It’s a shame that the norm is to disfigure a perfume to its very bones.. Long live Eau du Soir.

Scent: 10 I LOVE the smell of this perfume. It is green, intense, very long lasting with an incredible floral and woody touch. I am a man and this is the one of the perfumes that i choose when i want yo feel elegant and confident. Sonething weird happens yo me with this perfume. It is suposed yo be a feminine perfume but i like It more on me than on women. When i smell It on women i find in very clasical and serious and i feel as It fotos better an old women than a Young one. But when i smell It on a man It on myself i feel totally imoresed. The effect un the masculine skin os totally different and for me marvelous. The true is that my grandma had used this perfume sometime and i could remember that. One day when i went to a perfumery to buy a new bottle of black orchid (which other of my favourite scents) the shop assistant hace me a small tester of this perfume and told me "this is a women's perfume but i think you are going to LOVE It. Try It one day and look what do you think". Sinceramente i tried It It has his own soace on my top ten perfumes. Longevity: 10 This is one of the most long lasting perfumes that i have. Around 8 hours on my skin and almost a week on my clothes. Sillage: 9 The projection is very good and It lasts almost a whole night. I use this fragance usually to nightout and when i do that i can feel It even at the end of the night. Next morning while i go back home i can feel still the trial that i leave on my back. Quality/price: 6 It is a bit expensive perfume. It is not as expensive as some niche perfumes or some special designer perfums, but is over the average prices conparing to most of Edo which one oerson can buy in a normal perfumery. I have paid 130€/100 ml but It is true that fue to his quality It is not necessary to use a lot and the diffusor id very good so the bottle lasts more than other perfumes with the same amount. Versatility: 10 I find It a totally versatile perfume. It is totally unisex. It is green and fresh so is oerfect for a daily use but at the same time is intense, floral an Woody so It is oerfect for nightout aswell. I find It better for special ocassions or as accompany of elegant fittings, and i look It weareable un any season of the year. Global: 9.5

It is rare that I find myself disagreeing with Luca Turin, but Eau du Soir is much better than his scathing one star review suggests. Perfumes: The Guide was where I started my education on all things perfume as a young teenager, and boy, did I take it seriously. As a result, I didn't deign to smell EDS until I au paired in France during college. The mother had a fine perfume collection in both bathrooms, with which I familiarised myself. I was drawn to the EDS bottle initially, thanks to its MDCI-like gold bust as lid. The liquid inside smelled of an old-world, classic chypre - mossy and dusty. Vintage-style in the best way, it is deeply elegant and sophisticated. A little bit Paloma, a little bit Knowing, it is familiar territory, but is no less beautiful for that. I recently bought a vintage miniature from the noughties and it smells as good as I remember. EDS has a bright, fruity opening thanks to the citrus notes. Big, powdery florals emerge early on, led by rose and rounded out by clean jasmine and some sweet white ylang ylang. Iris enhances the powder, while carnation adds a clove-like nuance. The chypre accord emerges early, following the florals closely. It is very mossy and earthy, with patchouli complementing the liberally used, vintage-style oakmoss to perfection. Lily-of-the-valley emerges after the louder florals subside, green and soapy, giving EDS a little lift. A nice woody-amber accord emerges at the drydown stage, grounding this scent and tying it all together. It becomes slightly animalic and musky, with remnants of the powdery florals remaining as it fades. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting. Classic vintage elegance in a bottle, EDS is extremely well-blended and beautifully composed. Best worn during autumnal days and nights (chypres smell like autumn to me). Mature, feminine sophistication that would also work well on a man today. 4.5/5.

I couldn't disagree more with Luca Turin and his judgement of Eau du Soir, coldly dismissed in few caustic words. I might be crassly ignorant as far as perfumes are concerned, yes, I might well be, but I find Eau du Soir an excellent scent. I love its sharp opening soon turning to soft, its being so green but also so deep. I bought it in Paris when it was launched (it did NOT come out for public sales in 1999 as Fragrantica notes say, but a bunch of years before) and I still remember the vivid impression it made on me the very first time I sniffed it. I did not buy it on the spot, it was costly - a tiny, opaque black glass bottle - so I did want to be sure. I came back to the perfumer's the following day, still fragrant on the wrist where Eau du Soir had been sprayed the day before. It had turned out soft, sort of melanchonic, a bit lazy, very elegant, very chic. For years this has been my evening perfume and the body lotion is a wonderful complement/alternative to the liquid perfume. Yes, oakmoss, and we all know about the restrictions on oakmoss and the victims they have done. Chypre scents seem to be the ones who have suffered the most from oakmoss being banned. It may be that Luca Turin sniffed a recent version of Eau du Soir where the oakmoss has been replaced, maybe it's for this reason that his opinion is so low. The original Eau du Soir (early '90es) was rich, opulent from the same opulence of Opium but in a different, more muted, direction. I can't see any similarity with Aromatics Elixir, maybe the touching ends are oakmoss, chypre and opulence, for the rest they are very different, excellent both, but not the same. Aromatics Elixir maintains a certain sportiness, lightness that makes you want to wear it in a gym, Eau du Soir is so rich that while wearing it you will feel like Uncle Scrooge in his deposit swimming among his dollars. A nice sensation indeed.

Eau de Soir is a classical floral chypre that dials up oakmoss, herbs and juniper, shading the florals in verdant, dusty hues, with patchouli as the keystone. The patchouli in fact merges it all into a cohesive, discrete monolith of beauty, without it spiking outward and asserting itself. While it lays on heavy in the opening (no complaint here), it does smooth out into elegant ripples, while still retaining this opulent, rich cloud for some time. Also for my fragrance enthusiasts who love to take the bitter with (or without) the sweet, there is this delicious sappy greenness in the heart, almost coniferous, as if the juniper is actually accompanied by spruce needles and resin. Combined with the jasmine and lily of the valley, we really reach a zenith of aromatic rapture before it settles into a sudsy, mossy base where the patchouli actually begins to open up to reveal its earthy character hours later. Speaking of "aromatic", think of this a cousin to Aromatics Elixir, however while Elixir is dense and bewitching, Eau de Soir is more an extroverted showboat of luxuriance. Those who love Lauder for Men will also find Eau de Soir to be quite appealing (both share juniper berries, lily of the valley, jasmine, and bitter green notes) but not redundant. Each is colored with different tints and shades to elicit somewhat different responses from the olfactory receptors. In my humble opinion, all three belong in any die hard's collection. Also, Luca Turin trashed it as a "cheap chypre," and while he and I agree at times, each time he trashes a scent, it's one for which I become absolutely smitten (see also Jean Couturier Coriandre, he eviscerates that one).

I like this scent immediately and I have only a slight allergic reaction to it -a tickling of the nose which is pleasant. The opening has so many notes that I can't seperate them. I get a green pine forest scent, a fresh green air of night, there is an effervescent soapy clean scent, mossy, and earthy rich soil depth. It's lovely. It's a walk through the woods at night. How can it smell like night and darkness and less ambient noise? I enjoyed the opening so much that the dry down felt too soon, 30-40 minutes in, and is subdued, more citrusy, very earthy, warm and powdery. As it dries down I can't smell it on my wrists, it becomes completely a sillage scent. Walking in a wooded area (in real life) I began feeling very open and gentle, tender, then weak in the knees, it felt as if I was in love! That is such a surprise. How can a fragrance effect my emotions this way? This is too personal and intimate of a story to sell to the world. Eventually over 12 hours later all I get is a lovely rose scented sillage, again nothing on my wrists, all of the scent is in the sillage. The next day I haven't washed it off and for a while the scent went a little sour, then deep, really deep, and I felt so weepy. That sense that life is so temporary and therefore precious. This moment is beautiful but life is full of loss too. I had no idea a fragrance could take me on such an amazing journey. Worn on the spring equinox, and the day after, it reminds me of the painting Primavera by Botticelli. Its feminine and tender; its stupendous. 10/10 (bottle from fragrance net)

I would swear Eau du Soir has massive aromatherapeutic properties due to the spicy pepper, bracing citrus, and fresh juniper, though it takes some adjusting. You know those fragrances you quickly become nauseated by and relegate to a drawer or box for months or years? Well, EdS is the exact opposite. At first, I needed to layer it with a sweeter, more powdery fragrance to make it tolerable. Now I like it straight and find it far too refreshing ever to become cloying. I was first attracted to Eau du Soir because I love cold, sharp, austere fragrances like Cristalle, and it's an intriguing, somewhat similar, legendary green floral chypre. As a bonus, it is non-toxic (as reported on ewg.org), and the brand does not specifically support Israel. I heard someone describe it as glamping or wearing heels in a pine forest, and I thought I'd adore it from that depiction. They weren't wrong, though I'd argue the reason might be that it at first bears a bit of a resemblance to Deep Woods Off. As crazy as it is, that is exactly what I like about it. It reminds me of childhood camping trips and Fourth of July picnics. In Eau du Soir, the moss is darker, more herbaceous, and more mossy than Cristalle; this is partly due to the addition of patchouli and labdanum, which makes it “difficult.” However, it's also part of what gives it the pine forest aspect & I now love them equally. Cristalle is fabulous for days and summers, and Eau de Soir is the most gorgeous nighttime and winter equivalent for those occasions my brain needs a cold, piercing wake-up call.

I was never really a lover of chypre's until recently. I find that i love oakmoss too; when it's done right. This perfume is an example of a perfect chypre and a perfectly done oakmoss. This is classy . This perfume is an aquired taste, just as caviar isn't delicious to some, this perfume is not delicious to everyone. I find it wonderful and nostalgic. It smells like leaves, dusty wooden cabinets, fall air, vases of flowers. As soon as i put this on i was reminded of my childhood. When i was between 7-9 we moved into a new house. It was October. Me and my sister and brother were walking around our new neighborhood. Stepping on dead leaves that had fallen off the trees around us on the side walk. Picking flowers out of our neighbors flower garden and leaving her a bouquet on her porch, lol. Walking into the house and seeing mom opening the cabinets and the dust was whisking around. The wooden staircase had a smell, Windows open blowing chilly October air in the house. All those scents are in this perfume. All those memory's in complete detail came back as if it just happened. This perfume is a lovely memory for me. To me it is perfect for the fall. Longevity is outstanding, 24 hours on my skin. Sillage fills a room for the first 10 minutes then is an arms length for a good 30 minutes. After that it radiates around me like a beautiful hedge. One of the first chypre's i fell for!!

Sisley are so underrated as a perfume brand... they are simply masters of this sort of unisex, pastoral, chic fragrance that exudes understated luxury. Basically, they all are aspirational fragrances... conjuring images of old-money elites with impeccable taste and of rambling European countryside estates with magical, perfectly manicured courtyards and gardens. They seem minimalistic, sheer, and easy-going, and will appeal to those who like such fragrances, but are actually quite full and rich and complex. I generally find their performance to be quite good as well, better than most other brands on my skin anyway, and even the EdT ones last 8+ hours for me, but i intentionally overspray to get that longevity. Yes, many of their fragrances seem similar to me... there are varying degrees of overlap between this, the other Soirs, the eau de sisley line, several of the new Revee line, and even the classic eau de campagne... they basically all form one big Venn diagram where moss is the common denominator. But as a result they also have a very cohesive line of fragrances and a distinct style that they stick to, which happens to be a scent profile I love. I realize this is more a review of the Sisley line in general, but it seemed appropriate because I find this fragrance to be most indicative of the Sisley style, kind of a summation of the house and what they are about.

I love this fragrance! Sisley Eau du Soir is a grand, stately, imperial, and imposing scent that I find soapy clean and impossibly gorgeous. I was introduced to this after receiving a sample packet of shower gel and falling in love with the scent in an unforgettable moment years ago. I subsequently blind ordered the EDP and have grown to consider it irreplaceable in my collection! I am on my 2nd 100ml bottle and sometimes wear this daily. Much to the dismay of my wallet I have never found anything else like this! There is something about the grapefruit, spruce, and floral blend (carnation stands out) that I just cannot get over. The effect is very cold, sharp, and classy, like a high-end slap in the face. Performance and projection are great as well. Sometimes a slight spiciness emerges from the base that bothers me (pepper is in the notes), but this is a minor squabble. This may smell traditional at first whiff, but I find this miles apart from other chypres like Mitsouko and Aromatics Elixir than I cannot stand. Keep working with this one if you don't find it pleasing right away, I had this experience but soon came to find it very chic and modern! Tip: EDS shower gel is divine and addicting, simpler than the EDP mostly representing the top notes of the fragrance. Amazing!

I met Sisley's Eau du Soir by chance in a perfumery in Bologna 23 years ago to be exact, in those days I was a lover of Sisley's Transmat Crème de Maquillage au Concombre foundation, an absolute must (at a crazy price). The shop assistant gave me this very pretty mignon by Eau du Soir, at the time I was a fond admirer of floral designs, I was wearing So Pretty by Cartier... light years away. It wasn't love at first sight... I found it incredibly bold, almost masculine and dizzying. I was not well educated on that blend. I kept it there among the perfumes, I observed it with suspicion, sometimes furtively took a drop on my wrist and when dry I perceived this imposing chypre / woody that disturbed me. Over time I have learned to break stereotyped barriers and sexualise fragrances. It was a huge discovery, like going into a wood and grasping all its most contrasting chords, a supreme and masterful concert of citrus and then woody, spicy and earthy chords with an almost submerged floral heart, framed by an adorable amber background. We are talking about a sumptuous creation by Jeannine Mongin, Hubert d'Ornano and Isabelle d'Ornano, prestigious alchemists of phytocosmetics. Impacting sillage, duration worthy of its history. Today I love him madly

Eau du Soir, however much of a reformulation, was my birthday gift to myself for the special, I deem a cornerstone age of 30. It lasted for years and I finished it nowadays. I had totally fallen in love with the intact version in my 20s. I could swear it was how a queen would smell like... The currently available version is fresh and unisex leaning a bit towards the aftershave band. But it is still a good, clean, refreshing fragrance. I don't get the "old" connotation, it is rather super elegant. I have never played golf, but if I did, I would probably wear this for the game, and then we would spend the night in a 5 stars resort, enjoying caviar and champagne, the latter of which I like. It is also an ideal business fragrance. The only ever person I've smelt this on outside was a bank manager lady in her early 40s. You don't wanna mess with anyone wearing Eau du Soir I guess. Not because it is offensive or threatening but it really conveys the message that "I don't have time for BS". I like it, lol.

Eau du Soir was my signature scent for many years now and it will probably always be. I wrote many reviews about other gorgeous scents..describing them as luxurious, classy, for powerful women, etc... but Eau du Soir is the Queen of all of this. It is the most amazing scent I've ever smelled. It is flawless, perfect, a masterpiece. It does something to my self-confidence when I wear it. I feel like a "power- woman" and I've noticed I get the same feedback from people around me. It is amazing after a shower, uplifting when I start my day. Great for the office or a business dinner, for a night out in a good company and for cudling me to sleep. Amazing for every season of the year. It is just so perfect! It gives me so much confidence, it makes me feel amazing. My husband doesn't like it, but since it makes me so confident about myself ...I don't care (ha! ha! ha!) not for the young audience though. More for "trained noses" of the connoisseurs.

This is exquisite! I love the way that this perfume smells - and it definitely leans towards a perfume that smells like a Fortune 500 CEO could wear this. This is a confidence builder type perfume. Men could also wear this because this is not overtly feminine with a strong floral or sweet note. This is more in the alto range of perfume smells. This smells successful. This may be a bit over powering right after it is sprayed, but the dry down of this perfume is really fabulous. This is in the same range with perfumes like Knowing and Youth Dew by Estee Lauder and Coco Chanel (the original). This is one of those perfumes which I have not purchased yet. This perfume is a little bit more mature - and definitely sends off that vibe. This perfume is something that a Queen could wear... but may be too over powering to wear daily. I would wear this one for special occasions and meetings... this is a bit too formal to wear every day.

Wow, Eau du soir is an extraordinary chypre: old money and ancient mosses; complex, spine-straightening spices over a bed of aromatic woods. Yet it's much more sensuous than a more herbaceous chypre like Aromatics Elixir; the jasmine here verges on the indolic, but not enough to reek. I love the combination of florals and spices--along with the labdanum and residual grapefruit from the opening, which lingers longer than most citrus notes do. I found out about this perfume from a friend, who found a vintage bottle that she had bought years ago, so I got curious and ordered a sample vial from Fragrance net (current formulation, of course). I'm not sure I have ever smelled syringa before, and I'm pretty sure I dig it. I know the oakmoss must be fake now, but whatever synthetic they're using here is very good. In the vintage the oakmoss note must be transcendent.

I’m truly in love with Eau du Soir by Sisley. Since Sisley has always been a favorite of mine for skincare, I thought why not try their perfumes? My first was Soir de Lune, a blind buy based on trust in the brand and reviews. Though well-made, its earthy and mossy profile didn’t suit my taste. Still, I gave Eau du Soir a chance, and it blew me away. It’s hands down the most elegant woody fragrance I’ve encountered, with luxurious citrus, fresh spice, moss, and floral notes woven seamlessly. It smells expensive, sophisticated, and powerful. The sillage and longevity are strong, and I’ll never forget when my mom smelled it on me and instantly said, “You smell like luxury Parisienne hotels.” She had no idea what I was wearing just pure instinct. Basic b's think Baccarat is old money 😂😂😂 THIS is old money. It's very very unlike anything today. It's like walking in a cold, chilling forest at night... in spring. Yeah, it mixes cruel, sharp qualities, with very natural florals. Did I say a forest? A garden rather, but a very very broad garden, with enormous trees that shade the sun and some wilderness to it. The kind of garden foxes and deer venture in. It makes you feel like an elegant witch. This is more witchcraft than Dior's Poison and Lancome's Magie Noire and N5 and Coco Chanel all mixed together. If you wanna think of someone who wears it, think Greta Garbo, beautiful, cold, mysterious, without being in your face about it. Again, very natural. It's not a warm oriental or a synthetic granny smelling perfume (although very vintage) but it's more of a cool, witchy garden at night.

I'm using Sisley's Soir de Lune for couple years and I considered it my signature scent but this one is even better (even it's very similar) and it's something I was looking for about 8 years. For me it's only winter perfume, I don't feel it's matching any other weather than cold. It's instant good mood for me. It may sound weird but after Oriflame's Saga was discontinued I was trying to find something similar and Eau du Soir is exactly it. It's definitely not for everybody, not a safe blind buy and for someone it's not for everyday use but I feel I can handle it. Someone would say it's for older mature women but I feel like myself with this perfume and I'm still under 30. There's something masculine in this perfume which is perfect for me.

Eau de Soir wears with my chemistry just as it smells in the first spritz. WOW! I love the shock of the moss at the beginning and throughout. As much as I love civet in my chypres, this has no civet and I can wear it during the day anywhere. At my, ahem, elderly age, I prefer not to wear civet during the day leaving it to the younger generation to do so during day. It does smell like my vintage Scherrer after several hours of wearing it, but the Soir edt has greater potency than my Scherrer. It might smell dated to some. So what. No one else is going to kiss my neck except my husband, and he likes it. Stuck in the eighties, maybe? Just love Fragrantica Review Board, thank you. Eau de Soir is an absolute treasure! Eau de Soir exudes luxury, but not in a garish way. It is discreet, sophisticated, understated. Wish I could bathe in this soapy chypre! Sillage is above average; longevity is 7+ hours. Perfectly unisex. Eau de Soir has become my signature perfume for spring and summer. Get yourself a bottle of this classic beauty--and be prepared for many compliments!

I was very lucky to stumble upon a vintage bottle of this juice (black bottle). Upon spraying, Holy OAKMOSS! Wow! At first it is very powerful, like a wave crashing into you but then it settles after 10 minutes to a calm stream. Patchouli, Iris and a small hint of rose is present in the first six hours. The smell reminds me of water, or as some would say an Ocean Candle or room spray. To others smelling on me, they can detect rose above all else. There is a slight carnation note buried in here. Very subtle, not over powering. This would be best worn in mid summer during the day. It is a very lovely scent, but dose carefully!! Too much can be very cloying. Almost wish they would have made a splash bottle.

I don't know why this is called Eau du Soir...at first spray, this makes me think of sunshine and flowers. It's so bright, clean, and green to my nose. It's heating up here in Southern California and I'm going to be wearing the hell out of this. In its initial phase, I think this smells almost cologne-like it is so fresh. And while that freshness does wane in the drydown, it remains light and invigorating on my skin...just a little more earthy and mossy. I see some of the other fragrances in the 'reminds me of' section: Paloma Picasso, Aromatics Elixir, 1881. Eau du Soir might be in the same vein, but it's more like the happy-go-lucky cousin to those scents. I love this stuff.

I recently discovered this amazing fragance and fell in love with it. But, I got an older bottle (2008) from eBay and the smell is not as good as my small tester. I read about the oakmoss levels used to be much higher so maybe that is the reason this bottle doesn't live up to my expectations? Or maybe it just turned bad as it is 8 years old and I got it without the box. The strange thing is it smells fine on a paper strip but not on my skin. Will keep using my small tester and buy a full brand new bottle when it is finished. Because it really is gorgeous!! And if anyone thinks the not so yummy smell on my skin is the oakmoss and is interested in swapping, send me a message!

i appreciate and think very highly of luca turin but this is so *not* a cheap chypre. it's elegant, sure-footed, a little bit soft yet also a little bit icy and bitter. its vibe is like making your way through the black forest, and finding in the middle of a clearing not a witch's gingerbread house or a spellbound castle, but a mies van der rohe building. contrary to its marketing and a lot of reviews online, i don't find it particularly feminine nor suitable only for nighttime and/or cooler days -- it's quite unisex, and good for summer days as there is nothing here that's warm and overly cosy which can be nausea-inducing in the humid heat.

I actually love this: it's a gorgeous old-school green/floral chypre that's dark enough it could be worn by men as well as women. The oakmoss is still quite present in it and makes the whole thing seem very rich and decadent, and the nice juniper at the heart of it keeps it from being too floral. I really find this enjoyable. The manufacturer's backstory for this being presented as a gift to a countess by her husband to make her think of butterflies gathering in the syringas in their twilight garden is so twee (even if it's true!) that it's quite off-putting. But the actual fragrance itself is much, much better than that.

That was the smell of my dear aunt Helena, an extremely well-groomed, polished and chic lady. She spoke several languages, traveled all over the world and was a very interesting person to talk to. When she had Alzheimer's and passed away, I was in charge of disposing of her house and all her belongings. Eau du Soir was impregnated in her clothes and objects and made me think about the incredible life she had. After a while I bought myself a bottle and whenever I wear it I feel like I have captured some of her elegant and polite aura. Eau du Soir is a timeless fragrance for a woman who has a history.

This is truly beautiful. I blind bought this a few days ago because I had been curious about it for years. Reviews were generally positive and I absolutely love this bottle. It is fresh, with a quick bite of sweetness, floral and even a tad watery/aquatic. I kept reading that it smelled like a forest or a Christmas tree, so I wasn’t sure what I’d end up with, but to me it is nothing like that; just fresh, a smidgen spicy, elegant, and beautiful. This is basically Grace Kelly in a bottle. You immediately smell the French Riviera and all of its exotic florals. Especially night blooming flowers like the Syringa. This is one of the most regal perfumes I've ever smelled. For some reason I have never reviewed it after all these years of my wife wearing it until now. When she puts on her Sable this is the perfume that accompanies it every single time, because it smells rich and glamorous enough to go with an expensive fur like that. I don't find it to be an old lady scent at all. It just smells of wealth and old money.

I really want to love this. From a distance it smells really crisp and fresh, with white florals peeking through soapy oakmoss, but with nose to skin I get a repugnant rotting vegetal smell. Or is it rancid pepper. This must be a skin chemistry error because no one else mentions it. Smells very close to Acqua di Parma Essenza de Colonia. UPDATE: so I found out my bottle had leaked in shipping and it made the perfume turn. That's why I was getting a rotting smell (it truly was foul). After testing a replacement, it is a 100% love and is exactly what I was hoping for. :)

I have tried this in a shop and I quite liked it. It is classical, woody, spicy and very elegant. I can imagine wearing it because it is fresh and feminine. "But" it is similar to other scents I like ( Miss Dior, Chanel No.19 )and the price is absolutely exorbitant when you compare it with similar quality brands. And maybe my personal opinion I really don ́t like the bottle. The lid looks nice in the photo but reality is much worse. I didn ́t like to touch it, cheap plastic. So I would buy it just for a reasonable price in sales.

Night enhances and amplifies the undisputed qualities of this great seducer. Exquisite, with a strong character and demeanor, endlessly persistence, extremely elegance. An elegance that inspires respect and reverence, so much devotion for which Eau du Soir amply repays. Glamorous. Now I recognize it, I know I smelled it many times, I also understand why I often happened to cross it on my way. Stellar. I wonder how many valuable samples I still have around, whose existence I don't know.

I remember walking through David Jones in Sydney around 10 years ago, and having the Sisley consultant wave me down to try this fragrance. I told her I didn't like 'new' fragrances, I was more interested in The classics (not the lolly pop explosions). She insisted I try this, and I did and I loved it. Many years and at least four bottles later, this remains one of my signature scents (I have a few). It's deep, sultry, aromatic, seductive, dark and it lasts for ages. It's a classic.

I tried this from a store in 2013. It was difficult in the beginning as I can find many oakmossy frags to be although oakmiss is a basenote. After quite a while it was a spicy bliss, one of the best I have tried. After a year I bought 2014 version. It was not at all that difficult in the beginning, but it was also not as delicious in the base. I still love it, but it is not as good as I remember. What I think happened is that they toned down oakmoss and amped up patchouli.....

We used to take a night train to the seaside, and I remember opening the window and smelling, no, literally - inhaling aromas of the night - the pine trees, grass and all the greenness and herbage surrounding the trails... you know, vegetation smells very distinctly at nighttime, and I just couldn't get enough of it! Eau de Soir is exactly that - very fresh and very herbal, at the same time it's not "nature child" type of fragrance. It is truly elegant, classy and feminine.

It smells like that time when you were 7or 8 and you used your mother's expensive bath oil. It is very "clean". This fragrance feels decadent, slightly vintage in a "they don't make fragrances like this anymore" way; totally couture. There's no aldehydes, so you avoid that "old" vibe. There's tension between the soft, sweet florals and the tender, bitter herbs. This is the fragrance equivalent of a Chanel suit being worn to lunch at Gramercy Tavern. RICH!

This is the scent of a C-Suite woman who inherited tons of money, but she isn't a show-off, doesn't get tipsy, always calm and collected but in an easy-going manner. She knows her job really well, hardworking, has the best taste in clothes and design. She doesn't care if her hair's gone grey, doesn't do much of a make-up, was never seen in a gym or even sweating but somehow she always has the brightest skin and the healthiest body.

I wish Sisley would make a lighter eau de toilette flanker of this because it’s gorgeous but so strong that I can’t find many occasions to wear it. I also feel a bit like an impostor wearing it because it’s so swanky and elegant... This is a scent for me that holds an endless fascination, it smells so fresh yet grounded. Other than the star oak moss the note that jumps out at me is carnation, which just shines

All time favorite. The kind of fragrance that reminds me of my Mother, my childhood, an elegant woman, confident, with class. Strong fragrance, with personality, an Orient touch, full of History. Love it. I love parfums and am always curious for new launches, but always end up coming back to this one from time to time. I had friends who asked me which fragrance was it, both women and men, and complimented it.

I love this! The solid oakmoss base combined with a zesty citrus/juniper uplift truly gives a sense of timeless class. It even transcends the question of masculine vs feminine leaning. It's not a modern chypre, and neither does it give off a vintage feel. Truly timeless. Try this if you like l'Air du Temps but you want to dial down remembering your dear old grandmother (may she rest in peace) a little bit.

Trying a vintage miniature (assuming parfum). I don't get any citrus from the opening but instead get a beautiful and very elegant woody mossy iris, with carnation in the background. None of the aftershave type scent that I feared, but in my opinion very feminine in a quietly elegant way - very subtle in its beauty. This will be amazing in autumn as the patchouli creates a lovely autumn leaf type note.

Some perfumes are highly seasonal, IMO. Eau Du Soir is your favorite 3-ply cashmere turtleneck in a glorious liquid form. This is one we could all wax rhapsodic about, as it just polishes your wardrobe after you pack away your tee-shirts for the season. Understated yet illustrious glamour. It can sometimes feel hard to define, yet the classics endure like a string of pearls. This is just "it". 8-D

Sharp is the word that comes to my mind with this fragrance, in the best way. Sharpness of mind, sharpness of spirit. Spicy citrus; cool, verdant herbs; contrasted with a deep, warm base of moss and patchouli that has a hint of sweet amber for balance; all laced through touch of indolic florals that lends it a fragrant richness. Fierce elegance with an edge, encapsulated in a bottle.

Luxurious, unisex, aromatic and soapy. There's something very Edwardian. Old world, old money, summer afternoons and tailored linen suits. And at the same time like a hot skin in the middle of a hayfield. Sexy clean with a slightly arousing dirty touch. Like a combination of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme and Kiehl's Original Musk. But much better and refined. Love it.

This is a really lovely and mature fragrance! It is an absolute subtle luxury; a more elegant, refined and *effervescent* marriage of vintage Aromatics Elixir and Paloma Picasso! It also reminds me of Cabochard in the dry down. This is what Aromatics Elixir wishes it was. Where AE screeches with its greenness, EdS actually IS a subtle and dynamic elixir.

I am in love with this perfume, a scent I find myself craving. It reminds me of an elegant, head-strong woman who is very sure of herself. This scent has depth and dimension, it's sexy, sultry and seductive in the classiest way possible. This perfume makes a statement and isn't easily forgotten! A must have in any collection!

Smells like piles of heavy gold jewellery stacked on sweaty skin in a secret boudoir. Soapy, yes, but this is the kind of soap that would make you look forward to washing your hands, washing them until your skin burns. This perfume makes me feel like I have a very big inheritance to spend, love it!

Such a gothic masterpiece. Black jewel. Very sharp, metallic, cold, smoky, bitter and dry, no sweetness at all. Don't let overloaded floral notes fool you, here nothing like sweet girlie floral, this one is smoky bitter chypre. The Name perfectly fits its character. Unisex. ★★★★★
