Jeke

Slumberhouse's ode to overindulgence. This is getting drunk and going to an all-night breakfast spot, sitting in the smoking section back when those still existed, and sparking up a good cigar with your 2 a.m. waffles. It also gives me a bit of a road-trip-through-the-south vibe as there's a sort of old country store aura about it. Candles in mason jars; biscuits being baked nearby; tobacco products, scented pillows, handmade soap, hand-whittled wood carvings; maple, cinnamon and caramel hard candies; pralines; etc. Probably Slumberhouse's "friendliest" scent, next to Mond. I'm a big fan, personally. One of the drawbacks I've encountered with Sumberhouse perfumes is that once I've bought a bottle, I can be a little reluctant to wear it because I don't want to run out and then have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get another one. With Jeke, however, that's not even remotely an issue because a little bit goes so far. Like others have mentioned, its performance is absolutely huge-- a half-spray is FINE with Jeke '22. I liken it a bit to Baruti's Perverso, but in a context where a better balance is struck. Unlike that scent, this one doesn't repel me in any way. Instead, here, the performance is something that I personally appreciate because I know my bottle will last a long time. I just apply cautiously. Preferences on that will vary, though. Note: What some others seem to be reading as curry just registers to me as dry, leafy tobacco, which is fortunate because I've been chased off from certain scents due to overly amped up curry or fenugreek notes. I honestly don't get curry at all here, but I see what people are talking about, if that makes sense. I think that aspect is just going to depend on personality. Lastly, I'll mention that while there's this sort of cringey cult of prestige surrounding the act of coming into possession of a Slumberhouse fragrance, I wouldn't call the scent profile of Jeke '22 particularly sophisticated. And sure, there's a rustic quality to all the Slumberhouse offerings, but Norne, Baque, Kiste, and even Sibet read to me as more dignified than this. Instead, Jeke '22 is more of a rootin' tootin' good time. It's less of a "look at my Ferrari" type scent than a "look at my badass truck with a lift and mud tires hauling a trailer with a jet ski and a four wheeler cuz u never know when you're gonna need both at the same time" type scent. Just something to keep in mind-- this perfume has a Hemi. In a nutshell, it's Slumberhouse's best bang-for-your-buck scent, best suited for cold months, and would work best for the kind of person who can appreciate a fine dining experience but who would still never turn their nose up at grabbing a meal at the Cracker Barrel.

This is the best tobacco scent I've come across - no small accomplishment in itself. But Jeke also happens to impressively merge a range of dry, earthy, resinous notes to create an aroma that is uniquely evocative of the Autumn in my mind's eye - I'm reminded of cool October days in the Midwest and the smell of burning leaves in the distance... I've never smoked or really used tobacco products much at all, but I've always been drawn to the aromas of good cigars, pipe tobacco, and clove cigarettes. Recreating those aromas in fragrance is apparently a bit tricky. I've worn SL Chergui off-and-on for several years, but have often found it to be just a tad too sweet. Tauer's L'Air du Desert Marocain is a work of art, but it is just a little too amber-centric for me. Jil Sander's Scent 79 Man has a neat ashtray effect, but feels emaciated compared to its niche brethren. Enter Jeke. I'd passed on trying the Slumberhouse scents until recently. I suppose I was slightly put off by the prices - $160 for 30 ml is steep (if you're willing to go through discounters, you can get 100 ml of Chergui for that price). But having spent a few weeks with this fragrance, I can confidently say that the $ is justified. This deep, dark beauty nearly overwhelms at first with a plume of rich smoke that, to me, approaches the meeting point between a campfire and liturgical incense. What follows is a vivid approximation of a top-quality cigar and perhaps the mere suggestion of good whiskey. What's even more difficult to describe is the intensity with which Jeke offers up these aromas. This is strong stuff, which probably explains some of the criticism of the fragrance's opening. Over a period of several hours, Jeke gradually mellows and becomes drier yet - much as tobacco dried in the open air gradually loses its moisture and vitality. The base seems to include just a pinch of honeyed sweetness (no doubt from the benzoin/labdanum combo). That said, this is a more arid, more muscular take on tobacco than what I've previously encountered. This may end up being one of my top scents for the cooler weather. When I purchased it, I also received a sample of Norne - another fantastic scent that I'm expecting to explore.

In Jeke, I have finally found a fragrance that surpasses one of my all-time favorites: Tom Ford Tobacco Oud. In 2014, I was just beginning to appreciate fragrances when I got a sample of Tobacco Oud - it was one of the first heavy, resinous, smoky, and somewhat animalic fragrances I'd ever tried (along with Japon Noir, RIP), and it completely floored me. I found it challenging at the time though and sought out other tobacco-centric scents, but nothing really compared (with a few exceptions I eventually found, like the flanker Tobacco Oud Intense and Atelier Tobacco Nuit). I came to more fully embrace it and began wearing it often, but when I moved onto my second bottle recently I noticed its performance had declined (and now it's discontinued). Disappointed, I started looking for alternatives again. When searching around Basenotes I saw that Slumberhouse had several tobacco fragrances, so I got some small samples (Jeke, Baque, Ore, and Sova). I wasn't sure what to expect considering I had only before tried the beautiful but near-unwearable Norne - I know many love it, but I feel like I could only pull that stuff off at a black metal concert or while performing an ancient ritual deep in the forest. So with that in mind, I tried Jeke. I didn't think any tobacco scent could top the Tobacco Oud opening, but Jeke is something else entirely. Thick resins, booze, and the most spectacularly rich tobacco leaf I've ever laid my nose on. There's a also a wildness lurking underneath it all, the "barnyard" element some have mentioned. Over time, the vanilla - a bit sweet but dry - begins to emerge, fading in and out over the lifetime of the fragrance. This is obviously not for everyone, but if, like me, you love dry tobacco fragrances that don't heavily rely on sweet vanilla/honey/cherry, then you will not be able to get enough of this. It performs well with moderate projection and eternal longevity. Unfortunately, like all Slumberhouse fragrances it's hard to find. I was lucky to get it during the recent Luckyscent restock, but it looks like it's gone for now.

OK - two scents in (Norne & Jeke) and it's official: I am besotted with Slumberhouse perfumes. Extraordinarily rich, deep, complex, natural, characterful smells with real integrity and lasting power. And so delicious, too. I read Jeke has been discontinued so wanted to smell it before never having the chance again. I'm so glad I did - for this is the fireside chat of your dreams - wood and spice and warm resins, mellowing into the very finest herbal cigar tobacco and with a final phase of utterly lovely drier spiced wood again, cedar and sandalwood and fir and I don't know what else. The opening blast and first hour also feature a *powerful* reek of whisky - not usually my thing at all and I don't really want to smell like a distillery - but it's a fine single malt matured in the truest oak, not cheap rotgut, so I could live with it and even savour it after a while (teetotaller typing). This is what Don Draper would smell like early on in the evening, before things got too messy. Yet while it's full of notes with a lot of masculine associations, this is so multi-faceted and skilled that it's completely unisex IMHO - it just depends whether or not you love those notes as much as Jeke's formulator(s) did. Huge longevity, projection not immense, but this is strong stuff (and note for the user: it actually weakens in effect the more you apply - I had a minor dabber accident and emptied on more than I meant to on the second day of testing, and got less delicious Jekeiness than I had on the first with just the tiniest few drops). Less is definitely more with this. It has a calmer, more indoorsy and reflective feel than the pagan warlord that is Norne, but this shares its rugged-woodsman DNA and its redolence of real nature. Jeke is Norne's slightly more urbane, more controlled, more sophisticated big brother - a Viking who's sailed around the Med, perhaps - but they're recognisably from the same, stunningly talented, stable. Completely compelling.

I've been waiting to try Jeke for a long time now...too long! I honestly thought I was being conspired against, first of all it was difficult to find a sample (would be the only slumberhouse out of stock) and when I did eventually order a sample from Luckyscent they missed it off my order! (not that I'm dissing Luckyscent they provide an excellent service the majority of the time.) I thought I was destined to never try this one but I managed to get a sample over the weekend and wow! Wow...in a bad way (to begin with) the opening is atomic!!!! The juice stains your skin with a hefty, smokey onslaught of bangin' resins, the darkest patchouli and forest smoke. It's very nearly too much even for me and I was anticipating Jeke as being a holy grail of sorts. It kinda reminds me of both le labo Oud and Patchouli fragrances, (both of which I don't like) so oily smokey and dark. Then it settles down and becomes nicer. Then Jeke dries down properly and becomes a real "wow!" fragrance. This is what I was looking for from the notes. What I love is the benzoin and labdanum so sharp but smooth at the same time and this is a premium quality example of that. Really settled in now and the benzoin is like a dusty library book amber but without any softness of vanilla, just raw and unadulterated. The smokiness remains but subdues very nicely into a kind of pipe tobacco and patchouli, it's as thick and dense as you could possibly imagine but sits quite close to the skin, other than occasional wafting reminders. Conclusions are that I do in fact think Jeke is a superb fragrance and not totally unexpected but still not quite worth adding to my collection. I have to say I prefer the pine smoke of Norne and that's odd because I'm a total resin fanatic. If Slumberhouse's trick (or niche) is smokey, dark, unusual or uncompromising fragrances which it undoubtedly is, then I'm more than happy with that effect I get from Norne.

Today I was wearing Jeke by Slumberhouse again and giving it my full attention. Really LOVE this one – tobacco, incense, patchouli – three of my favorite notes, what’s not to love! The tobacco in this smells “authentic”, like a moist packet of sweet tobacco or a very expensive cigar, not synthetic at all to me. And to my nose it is unapologetically masculine (though there is some room here for it to be unisex I suppose). I’m not a big fan of overly sweet frags and this one definitely is not – there is a background sweetness for sure, but the tobacco and smoky incense keep center stage during the entire show. This was rather linear on me, but I didn’t mind since I love it from the first spray. As it begins to really fade it becomes like a powdery tobacco on me, which I can appreciate. I never got any of that boozy whiskey that some have described. While this lasted a long time on my skin (about 9 hours), it really was mostly a skin scent with very little projection. Walking past friends a few feet from me could not smell me, and it wasn’t until they were within a foot or so that they picked it up. In Jeke’s defense, I purchased one of the last 10 ml glass spray samples from the Perfumed Court so it’s possible the juice was fading and a fresher supply might project more. I’m saddened this has been discontinued as I like it that much – while I could never see myself having a signature scent considering how many frags I really love already and how many more I might discover, if I did have a potential candidate for a signature, this one would be a contender. I would wear this to work or out for the evening, and I’d wear it just about anytime except for maybe in the heat of summer. I will using this sparingly, not because I wouldn’t wear it frequently, but because I have so little left! As always, your results may vary!

Woah. At first this was super rough. Like strange, smokey, bitter, stuffy, just generally unpleasant. But once it dries down, it is an absolutely beautiful tobacco. To me i get a strong, dry cigar vibe, as opposed to sweet, oily, "cherried" pipe tobacco, but the benzoin softens it into something extremely pleasant.There is a hint of something that reminds me of a Swedish holiday beverage called Julmust, sort of an herbal, spicy drink, but that could be my nose getting jumbled by the turbo-powered smoke. I also get a booziness, similar to the rum in Idole by Lubin, but a few shades darker, and definitely quieter. Its not the most insanely original scent i've smelled (at least by niche/indie standards. This would smell like it was from another planet if it was on a department store counter next to something like the insufferable big pony line), but its definitely unique. I definitely perceive more than the notes listed, there is some dark spicy herbaceous odor that i just cannot put my finger on. To me it is not as incredible in the performance department as the brands dark masterpiece Norne (as well as not being as original) but it is still an extremely powerful scent. Also like Norne, this is definitely not fitting for a tropical climate such as my own, so it's hard to justify a full bottle. While this took a little bit of time for me to fully appreciate, it all paid off in the end and this is definitely a winner.

Jeke is the second try from Slumberhouse, my first being Norne, which I loved and bought, and I aimed for Jeke strictly based on the notes breakdown---I've not heard much of its reputation. Jeke is a masculine, winter beast. I get the whole mix of notes, including, in order of prominence: tobacco, benzoin, vanilla, clove, and patchouli. Such a sensuous mix that connotes a warm feeling in cold weather. Whereas Norne is the dirtier option, Jeke is the slightly sweeter cousin that offers a slightly warmer experience (I'll have to compare them more thoroughly at some point). I cannot say enough about its performance, as it's an all day beast in terms of longevity and a major projector for hours after application. The actual juice of Jeke, like Norne, is dark enough to stain clothing, though I didn't need to apply much in sampling. At $160 for 30ml extrait, it falls into the category of roughly needing to love it in order to buy it, performance notwithstanding, and to that I'd consider buying it after one wearing, even. Like Norne, it's a little rough around the edges and not perfectly polished to my liking, nor is it versatile as it would probably be reserved for cold weather nights alone, so it's not a top scorer by my abstract standards, but still very impressive! 8 out of 10

I've tested my way through, many fragrances. This blows me away, away, away. It resonates in my head. It repeats. It is so good it feels illegal to feel this good about a fragrance. I am drinking single malt Islay Scotch in my father's Orthodox Church. The white bearded priest swings his silver censer of burning smoking resin. Incanting. It reminds me of burnt ashes from the campfire from the night before. Laphroaig, Peat, Church Resin, Medicine. And then a touch of sweet tobacco. The best compliment I can pay it is that it pulled unsolicited compliment from a female friend when getting hugged. This is Etta James singing I'd rather go blind. Jeke is completely and utterly an intoxicating fragrance. I pay no other this homage. Smoky, dirty, gorgeous. [Update] So wore this every day for maybe a week until the smoke and dry wood became way too much for me to handle. IMHO the ratio of smoke and dry wood in Jeke seriously needs to be turned down. Literally needed air. Reference = Summer. Humid ~ 104 F Still love inhaling the church-medicinal. The holy grail is almost, almost within grasp. PS as an alternative, I can only wish Baque was still around 4.8 / 5

What I smell: Whiskey! Then comes a “Cade” smoke accord co-mingled with a leather (incense????—huh), more leather than suede, a bit of benzoin-bandaid (almost medicinal oudh), followed by the merest whiff of sweet fall leaves and the patch melding all of it together. Yes, I know those are not the “listed notes” but that is how the fragrance develops on me. I find it quite good, very enjoyable, and different from most fragrances. I have Kiste and Norne and all three have the “stamp” of Slumberhouse on them, but Kiste and Norne are considerably sweeter than this, though all three are “boozy” (yeah!). Those I went FB on, but I hesitate on this one only because it skews a little too manly on me; I wear unisex perfumes; however, this travels a bit too far into the Whiskey-leather-cade territory for me to wear frequently. Silage and longevity are great, as usual with this brand (heaps of admiration for SH). Both men and women can pull this off, though don’t drive fast and get pulled over—cops may ask you to walk the line. In the meantime, I’ll just take my Ardbeg neat.

Ahhh the smell of wet bitumen in the morning... What a wonderful scent! Yes, tobacco, leather, benzoin and smoke are there, colluding to evoke Autumnal images of bonfires, tarmac and trees dropping fiery red leaves. Applying as little as possible really allows this scent to come to life and also brings out the smell of cloves. One spray is more than enough as Jeke packs a lot of power and when applied too liberally can easily become overwhelming! Thankfully this wears incredibly close to the skin which compensates for its intensity. I love wearing it myself but i must admit this incredibly masculine scent is even better suited to my boyfriend. The creator of these scents eschews top notes. Although this makes for a more linear scent I think this is an interesting approach that does not detract for the structure of this scent at all and perhaps explains why they are so individual. Jeke is fascinating and complex, with all the notes resonating beautifully with each other. My personal favourite from the Slumberhouse range.

The opening is a blast of concentrated tobacco absolu that comes off as rum. It’s thick, dense, oily, but is an overall refined and well-composed essence of moist tobacco. Then smoke and benzoin resins join in creating the heart of the scent. During this stage, it begins resembling Akro's Smoke but Jeke is much darker, more refined and third-dimensional. The dry-down is all about moist tobacco, cloves, clary sage and cistus. Benzoin works as a overall sweetener. The “less is better” rule applies here, as too many sprays and the benzoin will become overwhelming to the wearer. This is a wonderful dense tobacco fragrance. However, the similarities to Tobacco Oud are exaggerated and are short-lived. I love this one, but Tobacco Oud is still the overall better scent to me, mainly due to its complexity, while Jeke is more straight forward from the get go. Still, it’s impressive stuff, and has made my top three of favorite tobacco scents. Shame it’s been discontinued.

OK I don't know what all is in here, but it is like nothing I have ever smelled in perfumery. At first it churned my stomach a little with the scent of maple-glazed hickory-smoked bacon with putrified Coca-Cola dumped on it. You know what I mean? Haven't you ever smelled a cup of Coke that was sitting around for so long that there was mold forming on top? I swear I have, although I can't remember when. This, friends, is the opening of Jeke. Now that I have some experience under my belt with Slumberhouse, I can safely say that it will get better. What I end up with is generally very pleasant--bonfire smoke on the beach + honey. I love it when my nose is close to my skin. I inhale deeply, and it is rapturous. But when I do not have my nose attached to my wrist, I smell booze, like I have taken a shot of whiskey and I wreak of it, and my stomach starts churning again. INTERESTING perfume. It's not a love, but it's definitely not a hate, either.

OMG,this is one amazing scent. Move over Norne, Jeke is the one. A warm, rich. resinous, honeyed tobacco scent that lasts all day. The smell is reminiscent of an expensive cigar plucked from an exquisite wooden box. A deep. rounded, woody, tobacco fragrance with subtle floral notes that envelopes you like a warm blanket. The more I move and work the more I catch wafts of this heavenly scent. I have never received so many compliments/inquiries, from women and men alike.Several women have instructed their husbands "smell him" and many people have asked me to write down the name. JEKE. I think I love you. Thanks to Norne and Jeke I am hooked on Slumberhouse. I can't wait to try Sådanne.

Jeke is an acquired scent to say the least. Very similar to someone taking there first taste of a good single malt. It maybe a little startling at first...even off putting, but ends up winning over countless individuals to try the next rendition to seek out perfection in a bottle. Jeke develops into an extremely nice earthy, smoky, and quite resinous scent. After about 30 minutes is when Jeke unfolds and the wow factor sets in. While Jeke isn't a complex scent, its extreme longevity, as well as sheer quality are enough for me to buy a bottle, this is also my favorite aspect. Dry down heaven... Scent 7/10 Longevity 9/10 Sillage 6.5/10

Tauer extreme Incense versus Jeke. Recently ordered in samples of Nasomatto Duro and Tauer extreme Incense, to compare to Jeke. Have tried several other incense / fireside fragrances but nothing has come close yet. The orders came in: Tauer, quite linear. Remember the smell of resin applied to the stings of your violin ? That lemony - simple resin smell ? Well this is it. Didn't really get Tauer at first - thought - yes I like it, a bit boring though. However it grows on you with time. The more I use it the more I'm comfortable with it. It layers very well with Jeke. Tauer represents the violins. Jeke the symphony of churches.

Just found some vials from luckyscent a year or so ago that I hadn't tried, and this was among them. Just a little smidge on my arm and damn, I am in love. Fall is my favorite time of the year and this really paints the picture for me. Desolate autumn walk to be sure, while smoking a pipe. Brilliantly executed and the quality is impressive also. Seems they use natural ingredients so maybe that's why it had to be discontinued, but if it made a comeback, I would buy it. If anyone gets tired of theirs, Id be willing to trade or buy it from you- never hurts to ask :)

What can I say about this fragrance that might not have already been said? This is a masterpiece. It single-handedly changed my perspective on what a cologne or perfume could be. Not only this scent, but this house. What Josh Lobb did with this brand as a whole is astounding. I wish he would return in some form because I would go bankrupt to smell like his creations.

I put this one on 30 hours ago and I can still smell faint remnants of it on my skin! That ́s longevity right there! To add to the stunning longevity it has an equally stunning sillage for the first ten hours or so! Apart from that it also smells absolutely gorgeous! On my skin it smells like dry tobacco leaves, woodsmoke, warm woods and a hint of leather.

Jeke 22 is much sweeter and arguably easier to wear. The trail scent is unmistakably maple syrup and pancakes, which is rather boring, but close up there’s so much complexity. I’m quite fine with this arrangement as I get to have my cake and eat it too—no one is offended by what they smell and I get to revel in the boozy, resinous, tobacco-patchouli punch.
