Suganami

Suganami is utterly gorgeous. A magical, mature, mysterious — almost tropical — powdery perfume. The myrrh lends a subtle church-incense quality, the iris gives it that beautiful powdery softness, and yet somehow it never feels heavy or dated. Truly the best powdery fragrance I’ve ever tried. When I first sprayed Suganami, I was struck by its smoothness. It reminded me of classic vintage fragrances — but made modern and certainly not heavy. This is a perfume for a self-possessed person, of any age. It’s technically unisex, though in traditional perfume terms I find it leans more feminine than masculine. As you wear her, she diffuses in a gentle, warm cloud around you. Comforting, yes — but the person who wears this is not “safe” or “boring.” They’re intriguing. Confident. Magnetic. Appropriate for year-round wear, I can see this being especially stunning in winter. That said, I’d be very curious to experience it in the height of summer. As with other Snif fragrances, Suganami isn’t typical or predictable. It likely isn’t a safe blind buy or gift — unless you or your recipient is a die-hard powder lover. If that’s the case, don’t hesitate. I worried the rose would dominate and throw off the composition, but it doesn’t. In fact, I barely notice it. Keep that in mind whether you’re a rose lover or a rose skeptic. I purchased the 10ml, but this is absolutely full-bottle worthy. Imagine this: You’re preparing for a special night out. You want to smell timeless and classic, yet exude allure and intrigue. You slip into your little black dress — sophisticated, understated, but undeniably sexy. A simple silver chain bracelet. Diamond studs. A delicate pendant. Before you leave, you immerse yourself in Suganami. And you walk out the door unforgettable.

Just got this today and man, this house kills it for me. Their scents are classy and so well blended... this is a very warm skin scent... think of Le Labo's Gaic 10 but sweeter. It's musky and elegant and very easy to wear. Why is this house not on everyone's list... This is the second blind buy from them that has just hit the mark so well and so well priced too. If you like a warm skin scent with a hint of elegance, you're going to love this. It's an iris but you won't get old lady from this, it's. powdery but not in a baby powder or even make up kind of way... it's approachable... if kind were a scent, this would be it. think of that sexy, kind person who works at the bookstore... the have nice tattoos, cool t-shirts, and a really cute dog. They read a lot of really deep books and are slightly introverted.... this is what that person would wear...

This is a dry iris with a slight greenness at the top and what feels like an incense note weaving through the entire wear. To my nose, this fragrance is not a lipstick-y iris. Is it dry, soapy, ever so slightly smoky, and green. In the dry down, it turns into a skin scent that is reminiscent of fresh baby powder. I thoroughly enjoy this fragrance and I am currently on my second bottle. For those that love Dior's Bois d'Argent, this fragrance is very similar. I detect a slightly sweeter note, with the woodiness turned down. It is also fresher - although this is not a "fresh" fragrance by any means. This is the type of scent that would be safe in the classroom or the workplace.

Peppery, powdery, androgynous, intimate and sweet. I bought this fragrance a while ago, and I have been waiting for Fragrantica to add it to the catalog since I really like it. I find it to be very coriander, angelica and iris forward, while also maintaining a base of notes that I always enjoy like rose and amber. It’s a very refined blend, and remains static throughout wear. It feels like someone wanted to reimagine Glossier You with a bit of a sweet and masculine twist (though the fragrances are not very similar other than iris). Longevity isn’t there but that’s what I expected at the price and honestly that’s preferred since I like wearing it to bed.

I saw somebody say that this smelled like le labo violette so I thought I’d try it before splurging on le labo and I’m so glad I did. This is gorgeous and unique, honestly what I was expecting le labo violette to smell like (which was a little bit of a let down). This is honestly an even better, more complex version of it. At first it felt very winter/cold weather vibe to me but as it dried down it is very versatile/seasonless. I’m looking forward to layering with some lactonic scents like xtra milk or 2%. Would probably also be wonderful with green scents like philosykos

This is so calming in a strange way, to me, it mostly smells of cedar and clean calming woods and pines, I love it, it smells clean, unisex and calming. There is a slight sweetness in the drydown but not too much.

To me this is a skin scent version of Opsis, no incense. I wish it had a teeny bit more projection and longevity because I’d loooove to make this my signature. Casual, dark, and effortlessly sexy!

I really like this perfume. It is more powdery and creamy and herbal than I expected it to be, which is silly because if I looked at the notes that would make sense, but with the name Suganami I expected something sugary. The first hour is the most intense, with spices, herbs, sharp cedar and musk, but as it dries down it turns into a lovely creamy and powdery woody scent. The rose and iris are lovely together. I think that this is an inoffensive fragrance that I do wish lasted longer than five hours, because the dry down at the very end is the best part and I can barely smell it :(

Suganami is a gorgeous soft powdery scent that feels clean without feeling sterile or soapy. The musk, iris, myrrh, and angelica are the notes that stand out the most to me. The iris and musk create a cosmetic powder scent that’s warmed up by the spices and resins and sweetened just a hint by the angelica and rose. This could be worn anytime and definitely falls into the skin scent category for me - where you just smell clean and good without smelling like perfume. My only complaint is that I wish it were stronger and longer lasting.

Upon initial spray Suganami smells so close to Princess by Vera wang. I don’t know I have a difficult time with musks but I’m gonna give this a go for a month and come back to update my review. 1/27/24 Update: it’s a strange skin scent reminding me of paper. If you wanna smell like a book I’d say that is Suganami is for you then. Overall 4/10

I didn’t think I would like this because fragrances like this typically aren’t my speed, but this is very warm and smooth. Sophisticated, cozy, elegant. Clean but not boring. However I don’t necessarily see myself wearing this in the Summer. Update: This is a very nice well-blended fragrance, but a bit too powdery for me.

I’ve worn this for a week now. It’s a warm, truly unisex powdery (but not baby powder or even make-upy) scent. Earthy, a hint of play-doh and dry iris. Very similar on my skin to Dior Bois D’Argent for sure. This is my kind of “skin scent”.

Sweet and powdery but not in an overly sugary way. This fragrance is perfect for those that prefer intimate scents that won’t alarm others. I like it but I gave it to my sister that works in the medical field.

Musky, soapy and powdery. It's calming, office friendly and makes you feel polished. This is akin to Juliette has a gun's not a perfume with a sweeter powdery dry down.

On the same spectrum of Luna Rossa Black by Prada. Not bad not bad.

This is a very dry iris powdery myrrh fragrance. It’s advertised more as a skin scent, which had my fascination. However, this actually has a pretty decent projection. There was something familiar hitting me about the fragrance. I read others comments and it hit me... This is a very close dupe of Bois d’Argent from the Dior Privee Collection. I’m really not a fan of myrrh heavy fragrances, so I will be returning this one. Thankfully Snif has a good trial program. If you’re a fan of powdery resinous fragrances and myrrh, you might like this. The price is pretty decent for an EDT. Unfortunately, it’s not for me.

I've seen a handful of reviews say that this is a more wallet-friendly dupe for Dior's Bois d'Argent and I would have to say its 85% there! There's a bit of a stale chocolate note that hangs out on my skin too much to make this a permanent part of my collection, but if you're a big BdA fan and want something a little bit less pricey, I would give this a go.

such a nothingburger baby powder scent

Kind of musky, a little stale, very synthetic, and way too much of that baby powder/old makeup vibe.

Revlon lipstick and baby powder. Not offensive but not for me.

Not what I expected. It's not very sweet, and it's a bit flat. It's one of those perfumes that I feel like smells more like you just put some lotion on rather than perfume. The iris in this is very lipstick/powdery smelling. It kinda reminds me of a massage bar I've had from Lush called Tender Is The Night. I don't know if that one is still around but it smells similar if that helps anyone have an idea of what to expect with this. I'm a little bit underwhelmed if I'm being honest. It seems like it is more of a layering perfume for me. Maybe it'll grow on me when I wear it during the cooler months. Update-had to declutter. It's just not for me. I wish people hadn't compared this to being in the same genre as Glossier You because I don't agree with that at all.

I really like this. The notes very much match with my general preferences in perfume. But there’s something quite different and special about this. Initially, I really get the coriander and angelica seed. It’s ambery, fresh, but a little spicy from those two notes. The dry down on me is so warm and powdery (but not makeupy or old ladyish as other people have stated). It’s inoffensive, it lasts a while, and I genuinely LOVE it.

Powdery, sweet and soapy musky scent, it has a beautiful iris note, some myrrh and green notes. I think it's a very pretty scent. It does remind me of Bois D' Argent. Also, the slight sweetness and the cypress notes somehow reminds me of some of the aspects of Eau Duell. I like it a lot. It does have a synthetic note that is annoying me. I need to sample it more.

This is a powdery spicy scent. I definitely get a blast of the Iris note! I’d say that if you enjoy JHAG’s Not a Perfume or Glossier You but want a stronger version, you’ll enjoy this! It’s a scent that makes me feel like putting on a black blazer. This perfume gives off the impression of having your sh*t together.

Terrible - gave me a headache. Smells like musty old carpets or incense that somehow expired and is too smoky. Maybe on the right person this would smell warm and skin-like, but on me it smells like gross and almost like grease (way too synthetic).

On me it pulls musky play-doh in the dry down :( not the worst smell but def not my preference.. the iris and myrrh with angelica seem to just not work on me even though the notes all are ones that I like a lot

Near identical to fleur de peau which both have a synthetic undertone that disrupts near perfection. So close.
