Attic

Attic by Solstice Scents is an intensely realistic woody nostalgia bomb, with a beautifully subtle heart of vanilla and rose. This fragrance has given me the most nostalgia I've ever gotten from a fragrance, and it borders on eery or ghostly (which I love). This smells completely identical to my family's cedar wood pool house in the Hamptons. It is extremely woody and slightly sweet with a very pleasantly humid, musty smell. This really hit home for me, but is probably the most polarizing fragrance in my collection. Some will appreciate the photorealistic wood notes and the accompanying nostalgia, while others may find this to smell like an old attic or basement, which could be unpleasant, or even spooky for some. This has great sillage and is EXCELLENT for layering if you want to add an extra woody kick to your fragrance (I like layering this with Blackmail by Kerosene). The lasting power isn't incredible, but I typically get 6-8 hours of wear which is plenty for most. The vanilla is very slight but adds a much-needed sweetness to an otherwise linear fragrance. The rose is almost undetectable until the dry down, but mingles beautifully with the vanilla and woods. This is certainly a cold weather only fragrance, I couldn't imagine wearing this out in the heat. Very unisex, and quite versatile. Overall, Solstice Scents' Attic is an incredibly unique pure wood fragrance, with an addictively spooky nostalgic hit. 8.5/10 overall!

the sweetness of the rose i think maybe gives this a bit more varnished wood than i was expecting? i love dry red cedarwood a lot, like i want to eat it, but i find fragrances are rarely able to truly represent red cedar aromatics accurately in a perfume. its always fresh cut wood (more green) or it leans more varnished. still, i really love how this smells, it's just not exactly what i expected it to smell like. still has an old woodiness to it that makes me huff my wrist like a crazy person, but it's more varnished and less "raw wood aromatics" than i was expecting.

One of my favorite Solstice Scents is Manor. This is very similar, but more complex...I believe it's the cedar that adds more depth. After I finish Manor, I may buy a bottle of this instead.

Fall Collection. This is surprisingly one of the LEAST musty/dusty scents from SS, at least that I've tried. Attic smells like a subdued version of Library with added vanilla and rose. The rose is very sweet on my skin, so much so that this borders on gourmand territory for me. It dries down pleasantly sandalwoody, similar to Manor. If you like Manor and Library, chances are you'll like this too. Not sure if you need all three in your collection thought.

Oddly, I was just up in my own farmhouse, 100 year old Attic today. So I know what that smells like, not too much of anything really, even tho it's a Century old. But this version of "Attic" is far mustier than my real attic, probably from using too much cedar, I mean, who wants to smell "musty"? Like old blankets or antiques? I have a home filled with antiques, they don't really smell, this is stronger, really nastier, and made me Dizzy. I don't like to be dizzy from scents, but this Attic made me so. Won't buy again, do not recommend.
