Badlands

I really enjoy this scent but i don’t detect some of the listed notes as much. The leather and resin are definitely prominent for me, and perhaps the juniper wood as well. Something smells a little like star anise but I’m not sure what. This is such an evocative fragrance for me and I imagine the character Cole from The Devil’s Rose by Brom to smell like this! Intimidating, masculine, but with a softness in the background.

To me, this perfume smells like a pleasant, sweet grass. It doesn't smell that leathery or woodsy. I like this perfume.

I was pretty excited for Badlands when I got it, a friend of a friend had recommended it to me when I had asked for a smokey grass scent. As it is, Badlands is a very medicinal slightly peppery scent, but for some reason I've been having an issue with Solstice where everything I get is an inexplicable artificial plasticy smell? I have no way of describing it except for the smell of pleather car seats that've been overheated in the sun. Very migraine inducing in me. Maybe it's just my skin, or maybe it's because I tried atmospheric scents? Maybe Solstice does better sweet scents? But I've had this issue with Cliffside Bonfire and Desert Thunderstorm, so at this point I'm at a loss. I'll try this again when I'm going out at some point, maybe with colder weather? Maybe this scent will smell better somewhere it can leech out into the air or maybe just in the cold? I'm at a loss.

Got this as a sample with a bunch of other Solstice Scents fragrances. I tried it out on a 70 degree day where I was out hiking. Even though I could see that I was in Illinois with yellow and orange leaves all around, I was picturing a hike I did several years ago in Utah and Arizona because of the smell of Badlands! It smells like taking the trail down the Grand Canyon. How did SS manage to bottle sand fragrance? Beats me, but here it is! It's not just sand though, it's also the spicy cologne of a sexy cowperson who's just rode into town. Maybe it's Kim Basinger in The Quick and the Dead. Maybe it's Russell Crowe in 3:10 to Yuma. Who knows, but once thing's for certain - they're riding into the sunset solo! It's also desert plants, deprived of water and releasing their herbal scents onto the hot breeze. Leather? I don't get it so much, but I'm not surprised it's there since I'm always naturally attracted to leather. This is a fragrance that would work beautifully on any gender. It's confident and meant to be worn by a very singular personality. It seems like it's intended as a summer fragrance, but given the strength of the scent, I feel like fall is perfect for this one.

I purchased this scent because I was looking for something that smelled like the desert. This one doesn't smell like the desert at all, but it does remind me someone who has been to the desert. It smells like a cowboy, leather and something dry and dusty. But not sand. It's good for what it's good for.
