During the Rain

My damp, cold basement and petrichor dream come true. At first this is what it smells like, but I swear there is some lavender in the mix because over time it smells like a cold, damp basement with the scent of laundry steam mixed in. There is a persistent wet soil note that is so perfect. I've wanted a fragrance like this *forever*. I love this stuff so much I instantly needed a full bottle, which comes as a 5ml roller ball parfum. I would mostly wear this on its own, but it would be so great to add dimension to other frags, especially soliflores of all kinds. Neroli, rose, daffodil, lilac and hyacinth are all florals I’d try layering with. Genius stuff! Update: I wore it again, and my daughter screamed, "DIRT!" I said, "Yes, it smells just like dirt." Then she said, "I looooove it!" =D

I've been avoiding to write this 'review' as it is one of my most favorite perfumes I ever owned. Yes, it's muddy, moldy, wet, damp, dark, earthy, which I love as it isn't just plain mushroom smell that reminds you of 'Oh-oh, something's gone really bad in the cupboard', it's like mud and mold where it's supposed to be muddy and moldy - in nature. But then after some hours it becomes a really pleasant smell I can't quite explain. It's nothing precise, not sweet nor medicinal nor flowery, but it's kind of all of the above. I have an oil-based one so keep that in mind. Thank you, Angela, for keeping my head in places where my body can't or won't go.

Wet soil, wet clay pots, wet pebbles...the petrichor of my dreams, so realistic and beautiful! Amazing art by Solstice Scents. I will wear this with TNT PK a great tuberose, Le Rayon Vert by SP and a smokey scent like Manor Fire by SS and create my own Bolt of Lightning!

A very accurate rain smell! Heavy on the concrete but just about exactly what I was looking for. So good. I'm anemic so it has the capability of making my mouth water. I'm definitely going to use this for layering, or just sniffing in general.

Smells like wet pavement and dirt. I think it is the best smell in the world, but my friend says it smells like clothes left wet in the laundry machine too long. It is very intimate. Layering it with other nature-y smells is amazing. Love it!

This is straight up dirt and petrichor. I find myself sniffing my wrist over and over throughout the day because it is almost strange how close this is to those earthy scents. I haven't smelled any other scent that comes close.

So photorealistic; the truest rain on sun-warmed pavement scent. Reminds me of Florida sun showers and being a child.

SS site description includes these notes: Storm accord layering note - petrichor, soaked Earth, limestone, loam, clay and wet concrete. Extrait only. Oil based extrait. AQUATIC/EARTHY. Summer Collection. The concrete note in the fragrance is so strong and so accurate - it punches through the opening with a spikey staticky burnt plastic. I immediately thought NOPE, but what a mistake that would have been. The heart of this showcases the most accurate rain-hitting-pavement note you'll ever smell. I can practically see and hear the steam of the rain as it makes contact with the asphalt. There is a murky dankness as well, which I detect underneath most SS creations, this time specifically limestone slimey with a spark of petrichor. Give this even more time and you will be rewarded with a glorious loamy, warm, earthy sandalwood drydown.

Earthy dirt, atmospheric, concrete, cold and wet at that. My goodness this is very intresting. Extremely photorealistic pre-thunderstorm rain watered concrete soil, slightly-sweet, unique and quality. Very good sillage and longevity. Very intrigued. I love it. Edit: compared to gulf breeze this is has no melony/ cucumber notes at all. And compared to "Dirt" by demeter which is the same catagory of profile but with no strength, this is a much more photorealistic, damp/ wet take on it. Most fav of the house so far.

A green and realistic portrait of a grassy meadow, not quite during the rainfall, but right afterwards when the first glow of sun quietly reveals itself again. Fresh dew drips down slender ribbons of grass, unraveling gently in the wind. Soil underfoot leaves footprints until you reach the surprisingly clean scent of concrete/stone in the dry down.

After the Rain smells, well... like after (or during) the rain. Imagine damp soil in the woods—or perhaps an abandoned, slightly moldy brutalist construction site left to the elements. Not exactly wearable on its own, but it makes for a fascinating layering option. Oddly addictive to sniff every now and then!⚡️

Extremely photorealistic wet dirt smell. So well done. I love to layer this with Duende by Fantome or any other sweet but natural perfumes so I can feel like a little forest fairy who was just done picking berries from the wet ground <33

The musty opening gives way to the exact smell of working in the garden. Very short lived. If you've ever had one of those rocky new england basements in an old house, this smells just like it as well.

I got a sample of this hoping it would be a nice scent for mixing and making florals more earthy and wet. Simultaneously disappointed and delighted. It is photorealistic wet earth. I thought it would be more petrichor, stone, clay but it's VERY earthy. Disappointing because it isn't what I expected and I'm still deciding if this blend is right for me. Delighted because it's so unusual and so. damn. spot on for wet earth. It's very cool and interesting. Will still try layering but maybe not how I expected to.

I'm a dedicated Solstice Scents fan, and an appreciator of the supernatural delight of a thunderstorm. One of my favorite memories as a youngster is sitting on the deck of my late Oma's screened-in porch as summer storms rolled in. This was in Massachusetts. My brothers and I would start off running around in the backyard, redundantly spraying each other with super soakers as the rain pelted down. Lightning would flash and Oma would shout for us to retreat to the porch, her words masked by the echoes of thunder. We would sit under the roof huddled and shivering, entranced by the cascade of retina-searing flashes and resonant booms. A faint mist would bypass the screens. The aroma of wet grass, drenched pavement, and electricity was heavenly. I've given During the Rain three chances throughout the last year hoping it will eventually strike my fancy. Alas, it has not. To me, During the Rain smells strongly of cold, just-husked corn on the cob. Currently, I find Demeter's Thunderstorm a much closer match to my experiences with New England thunder showers (though Demeter's is still not dead on). I really wonder if I got a bad sample from Solstice Scents, because I usually agree with Angela's descriptions. I'm looking forward to trying Desert Thunderstorm when it is (hopefully) restocked this summer, as well as Gulf Breeze if I can overcome my fear of seaweed. I loved High Desert, did not particularly care for Tenebrous Mist, and am curious about After the Rain, especially now that I realized what lilacs smell like. Edit: I cleaned out the back shed a few days ago and found a tarp covered in a couple year's worth of dirt, mold, and detritus. I whipped it open outside to scatter the decay, and wouldn't you know it, the exact smell that I get from During the Rain wafted off of the tarp. I wonder if the smell is concentrated geosmin, produced by the bacteria in the dirt? [If you haven't read up on the discovery of geosmin and springtails, I recommend it.] Perhaps a heavy rainstorm could raise this scent from the earth! Still, it is dank and not the refreshing, lovely charged scent that I associate with a thunderstorm.

This is an incredibly realistic petrichor scent, like wet stone, deep clay, and a bit of dirt. Overwhelmingly metallic and earthy at first, but eventually it softens and smells more like rain and less like straight dirt. I find it too bitter to wear alone, but I think if I layered it beneath a floral fragrance it might add a nice grounding earthiness, like a garden during a spring rain.

Is this what moles feel like? I feel like a mole. This is one of the most strikingly photorealistic scents I've ever bought; had to sniff it five or ten times before my brain caught up to my nose...I'm not used to this smell coming from a single location (as opposed to being surrounded with it outside)! I think where a lot of rainy notes miss the mark is going for a general feeling of "freshness" as opposed to paying attention to WHY rain smells the way it does. Combined here with a slight nearly moldy sweetness, this sets a scene instead of just feeling like an out-of-context single note. Wet dirt that hasn't seen rain in a long time, dripping stones, damp wood beginning to decay... mole realness

This really does capture what the outside/earth smells like during the rain. Maybe after the rain a bit more too- but, I am impressed. I love it- maybe not the best to wear. But- this captures a true rain smell unlike any other. I grew up in a place that rained and rained. I don't live there anymore- but, now that its raining where I am I felt compelled to write this review. I can concede that this is not wearable- but, this is a nice thing to have in your library of fragrances. If that is what you do.

First on this is an excellent, exact petrichor scent. It IS rain. then it dries down to very realistic wet, loamy rich garden soil. Not intended to be a complete fragrance of it's own, this could be a wonderful mixer to bring depth to florals. I wish the opening stayed longer though: if it did, I'd wear it alone, just for that wonderful cold rain smell.
