Manor

I have recently obtained bottles of both the Eau de parfum & the parfum extrait of Manor, by Solstice Scents. Amazed by another devastatingly gorgeous & mysterious fragrance from this house! It smells of excessive wealth...like a millionaire.. Before I begin my review, I would like to preface it by stating that the above listed notes are not an accurate representation of this fragrance ...,and that there is much much more to it than those few notes. If the theme of this fragrance was to be an olfactory depiction of a Manor house, the Perfumer has been very successful in making that happen... The Wood accords used in this fragrance are outstanding and are very reminiscent of aged hardwood flooring, and well preserved luxurious wooden furniture upholstered with leather. One of the notes present, but not mentioned is leather, and it lends itself well to the overall appeal and theme of the scent. Another note present ,but not mentioned is the smoke note. It’s what gives this fragrance the real Manor house feel.....and I’m surprised Fragrantica missed that one. It’s a major part of the fragrance.. It’s *NOT* the ‘barbecue’ or ‘ashtray’ note in a lot of smoky fragrances....it’s a smooth, realistic smoke note. It’s that beautifully eerie smoke note that is somewhat of their signature. The Woody/Smoky/Vanilla accords amalgamate to a fantastic fragrance, but its mysterious-ness is pure sorcery. I have ordered and re-ordered this fragrance because I enjoy it so very much..and will continue to for as long as it’s available! THE VERDICT: MASTERPIECE!

Comforting and regal. This isn't a haunted, dilapidated manor - this is a royal palace. Upon first application I get a lot of woods, then it nestles down gradually into a musky and sophisticated vanilla. The dry down reminds me a LOT of the signature base of a certain historic French perfume line starting with a G. It lasts for ages on me, and I do keep wanting to smell my wrist. As comforting as it is though, I usually like a more challenging and distinct perfume. This isn't as atmospheric as Solstice Scents usually tend to be, but if you're looking for an incredibly long-wearing, unisex, warm scent that everyone in the office will like, this is a solid choice. *Edit*: I sure wish Manor Fire was listed on Fragrantica, cause that one to me adds just enough to Manor with its smoky, resinous notes that it puts Manor Fire into "must have" territory. It's stronger and more unique, so if you like Manor but find it a bit 'safe', go for Manor Fire.

I discovered Solstice Scents in fall of last year. Manor was one of the first samples I received. Honestly, I was not feeling it at first. But I found myself trying it a few days in a row. It was the dry down that got me. I was coming home from work trying to figure out what I had gotten into that smelled so good on me. It was Manor that I forgot I was wearing. The dry down actually reminds me of Wonderoud by CDG. It starts with a mustiness. Almost unsettling, as if you barged into an abandoned house not knowing what to expect. The comforting vanilla then lures you in even further. The oud and sandalwood show up making it more intriguing. I get an almost berry or fruity undertone as well. I first used this in fall and winter and thought it would only do well in the cold months. I wore it last week when it was in the mid 80s and it was just as great. Never became cloying or overwhelming. Super easy to wear anytime.

Manor has that distinctive "homemade" smell that all SS scents have (at least all the ones I've tried). I don't actually think that is a bad thing. I've enjoyed a few others (Chiffon and Astral Temple) and very much not enjoyed others. Manor, like Astral Temple, is incense-y and deep. The difference between the two for me is the vanilla and the comfort aspect of the dry down that I love. Manor reminds me of a new age bookshop in my hometown in the 90s - incense cones and "musk" and "amber" oils and old books along with that musty smell of pot? Mold? I'm not sure. But Manor is a more elevated scent with a nicer vibe. The oud is soft. The vanilla is faint and warm. Lovely!

A gorgeous woodsy, dark vanilla scent with just the right touch of smoke and sweetness. This fragrance is truly unisex; I can see it being attractive on anyone. It's perfect for cool fall weather, and I personally don't think I would wear it during the warmer months. For me, this scent brings to mind old books and libraries, which I absolutely adore. I was a bit nervous for the "dust" mentioned in the scent description, but ultimately don't find the scent to be excessively dusty or dry. I might need to splurge for a full bottle!

HYPNOTIC, ADDICTIVE, ETHEREAL & BEAUTIFULLY DARK, but not pitch black. The Vague "Woody notes" idk what combo they're using ( I detect some sandalwood). But, this is gorgeous. I don't typically like wood notes. But, this is really nice. I would have to say, at least on me. The pyramid notes by vote are accurate. Woody, Natural Vanilla, Airy White Musc, and Oud

I'm getting patchouli??? This is deep, sweet, thick, sexy, delicious, woody, herbal. I love it. I had just gotten Loree Rodkin Gothic 1, and i was sad about it i wanted it to be dense and thick like this, it was returned. I remembered that i had gotten this oil a while ago, pulled it out and it totally hit the spot that i wanted the Gothic 1 to hit.

Welcome to the manor After applying from a beautiful dabber, the scent comes a natural blast of semi sweet smoky vanilla dessert then reveals smoke and woods like a comfy fireplace, very natural, relaxing and a bit muscular reminds me a bit of kerosene broken theories, it comes also in eau de parfum. I’ll be hanging out by the library. :)

This was like THE fragrance discovery of 2016 for me, and my love affair has definitely carried over into 2017. I would describe this scent as the richest of vanilla bean extracts mingled with freshly sawed lumber. Heaven! It has a strong sillage that radiates out from the body and lasts for a good 8+ hours.

After Molecule 01 & 02, this is my #1 favorite layering scent. It has a very smooth semi-dark oud, vague woody notes, a soft non-foody vanilla, and some musk in the background. Easy to wear, pair, and very comforting. Staple.

Another excellent vanilla-woods blend from this house, who seems to be particularly great at the gourmand notes (at least, with my chemistry). This one initially has a caramel-like woodsiness that reminded me somewhat of a Burberry I once sampled (Brit, I think), but this one stays natural-smelling, all polished wood and toasty brown sugar, while the Burberry went plastic on me. Manor settles into something more mysterious, with the oud peeking out, but just barely--this certainly isn't an oud scent that screeches the wood at you. Which I appreciate! Another I could see myself wearing a lot.

This is my go to cold weather fragrance. I work in outside sales, so during the winter I'm in and out of buildings and usually keep my scarf on as I drop off samples and consult with clients quickly before moving on to another location. Manor's vanilla/oud notes are so comforting when I'm running around in the cold. It reminds me of being indoors, snuggled under a big fluffy blanket with a good book. The vanilla is sweet, but not very foody. Just soft and comforting.

People keep saying "oud," and I don't smell oud. I do smell wood, but not oud. I didn't think I'd like this, but I do. I don't normally care for this profile, but it is a nice, sweet woody vanilla musk, with a dry, paper aspect thrown in. Warm and cold at the same time. Very pleasant, very comforting. I prefer intimate scents, and this sits close to the skin. If you like to announce your presence with your fragrance, this isn't for you.

I like it but the sweetness of the vanilla boarders on like a caramel popcorn kinda scent thats a bit too sweet for me to want to wear it often, though I do think it smells good. The dusty oud does well to balance the sweetness. The woody powdery aspect is extremelyyyy nice, but i cant stand a deep gourmand smell at all so i am quite biased :P (edit:) while it settles on the skin the sweetness does relax, very old manor-y :)

Tamed oud flanked by something vaguely vanillic and something vaguely woody. I have smelled similar things before in my attempts to find a perfume that smells like salmiac. Mancera Aoud Black Candy, maybe? Definitely gives me somewhat of a liquoricey vibe at least. I would have liked more dampness and mossiness for this to be deserving of the name "Manor", though the premise is certainly there.

Manor is a soft scent that lasts quite long, especially on clothes - much like Solstice Scent's other fragrances as well. It smells very much like vanilla and might remind you of a pumpkin pie in the autumn with vanilla and cinnamon. The woodsy notes are more subtle and you really have to smell it for a few minutes to notice them. Definitely delicious on men and alluringly seductive for women!

This is a great atmospheric fragrance. It really does smell like an old, dusty manor AT FIRST.. but if you give it some time a sweet, woody vanilla emerges and it takes center stage. My partner wore this and I loved that woodsy vanilla projection on him. This is such a comforting scent too and great for colder weather.

Manor honestly does not really come out on my skin. I really love the smell in the bottle but its never amped up on me at all. I might pair it with my bottle of Manor Fire and see how that goes. It's such a beautiful scent, very comforting but also a bit whimsical and mysterious just like an atmospheric old manor!

Smells very woody with a bit of vanilla. If you want the same scent line up with more vanilla and less wood, try Something Wild from Derek Lam. This definitely does not smell bad, but it by no means blew me away. It's a bit masculine, too.

Warm, dry, toasted (slightly burned) sugar cookies and sawdust. Interesting and inviting but still slightly strange. So dry, it's almost fuzzy, like fluffy wool mittens. Whispers of sweet smoke and smooth sandalwood. No spice, but cozy. It's nice. A bit musk heavy in the end which makes it less enjoyable for me than during the first hour or two. Review of BURNISHING GLACE' Body Oil purchased directly from SolsticeScents.com UPDATE PERFUME EXTRAIT rollerball is sweeter and smoother. Pleasant at the start but gets more musky as it wears.

Smells very masculine, woodsy, gave me a headache. Not sure what's going on here with this. Not as described tho. I like more flowery scents, but this was really bad. I suffer from migraines, after wearing twice, it triggered one. Will not buy from Solstice Scents aka Angela St John of FL again, just not trustworthy.

Love, love, love Angela, SS perfumer’s, glorious aesthetic. The art, ideas, the small cozy town with boarding school, manor house, fun fair, fruit stand...gorgeous. Even my mom, who completely hates fragrances, appreciates the stunning photography; red cherried black first cake in the middle of the late autumn woods for Black Forest. That said, Manor is completely out of my wheelhouse as I’m a lover of disgustingly sweet gourmands, soft white florals, and musky fruity florals. I do enjoy it however. In early childhood in the 70s I used to play with a cedar chest my dad made. This fragrance takes me back. Cedar with a vanilla musk and it is totally unisex. I amp the cedar and do wish it was more vanillic on my skin. As Blank25 states, definitely more late autumn and winter. Manor lasts very long as Angela’s fragrances do. I have to be careful not to overspray as it definitely has strong sillage and people notice! I honestly can’t comment on the oud note as this is the only perfume I’ve ever tried with oud and I couldn’t pick it out of a fragrance.

I purchased a 2oz bottle blind, just based on the description. Needless to say, I went through that entire bottle in about 3 months. It became an addiction! All of the notes in this fragrance are appealing to me, and when they are all together in one bottle, OMG... I literally could not stop using this. I loved the way the fragrance would change on my skin as I wore it, the dry down is my favorite part. Soft, powdery, oudish,with a very sophisticated vanilla overtone, at least with my personal chemistry.The sillage was approximately 4-5 hours, then a skin scent.The projection was nice, people would always ask what I was wearing, but it was never a loud or "Bombastic" type of projection. I have since purchased 4 more different perfumes from Solstice Scents, and I am going through them at a rapid pace as well. Angela St. John is an olfactory genius, the next scent from the Solstice house I am planning to purchase is "Full Dark".

For the theme, this is innocuous and devoid of some of that omnipresent aroma you might smell from an actual manor such as dampness and mustiness. It would've been cool to translate those accords into this mixture. There's some detectable "Manor" in the ingredients for sure. It has a strong showing of the medieval/antiquated past and the modernity of the present. The combination of agarwood and musk parallels the stench of old wooden floors. The addition of vanilla gives Manor the proper refurbishing for mass appeal. Without sullying, if this is a Manor then Oud Alif is the Biltmore(Oud Alif is so so underrated). Both fragrances are structured similarly. Manor sits very close to the skin and for that reason, it will bode well for you layering types. Instead of avoiding that last house on the left, you might wanna check it out.

Phew! Very oud dominant on my skin. I wish it could mellow out to a sweeter vanilla profile underneath, but my skin only knows how to project sharp, woody notes, and that is how this comes off. I can certainly envision an old manor when smelling this. After drying down for an hour, a sweetness does come through and it reminds me of old books. Still nothing too notable on this second test. After more retests, this really becomes such a beautiful sweet incense after the oud fades, with a base of warm vanilla that I wanted from Estate Vanilla. The drydown is Replica’s By the Fireplace opening for me, of burnt marshmallow sweetness. (Manor Fire, which doesn’t have its own page as of this review, is bitter oud and dried ashes. Very stale character. Strongly dislike, much prefer Manor).

I ordered Manor because everybody (and I mean everybody!) online swore up and down that this scent was going to transport me instantly to the library of an old manor house. I'm a history nerd and a great lover of books and old papers, but here the vanilla scent is a bit too prominent to actually recreate the scent as described. There isn't much dust here--in fact, there's nothing dry about this fragrance at all. It doesn't smell bad, but it misses the mark. I wanted to smell like I'd spent the morning in the stacks of a well-loved home library, but instead I smell sort of like vanilla extract.

This review is for Nightgown perfume from Solstice Scents. It is predominantly White Chocolate, Tiare Flowers, and Tuberose. This is STUNNING. It remains one of my most favorite fragrances of all time. I have been using this for 6 years now and have not been able to find anything like this with this amount of sillage and lasting power. It is a definite compliment getter and a powerhouse. The white chocolate note is amazing and the tiare flower keeps it from being just another gourmand.

There’s oud in this?!??! I’m shocked, because normally oud is not a note that performs well on my skin. Manor is probably my second favorite Solstice scent (after Rose Mallow Cream). It actually reminds me of Givenchy Organza Indecence, or the drydown of Dior Addict. I applied Addict yesterday to compare, and after the florals wear off, Addict and Manor are very similar. Not exact, but the spicy, autumnal vibe is the same with both. I like it.

@devi Detroit sounds like someone paid you to leave a bad review. If you like flowery scents then stick with those. This...is not that. My review: this is a decent release. Whatever oud is in here mixes with the vanilla to give it a “sharpness” in the opening. Not barnyard oudy. Great for a cold fall night. Stay away of warm/hot summer spring use. Nothing too complex here. 6.5/10

Manor is a pleasant vanilla dominant scent with smoky wood notes. I don’t pick up Oud, albeit a slight medicinal vibe that may be attributed to that note....but Manor’s version is obviously mixed in a lab. I don’t do a lot of layering — which is what I would do with this scent—so a pass from me as Manor fails to hold my interest.

This smells a lot like Diptyque's Eau Duelle EDP, in the same way that the vanilla there is not sweet or foody. There is a slight bittersweet component to both, with ED leaning slightly more feminine than Manor, though both are quite unisex. Manor is perhaps a tiny bit smokier. Both beautiful, beautiful "sister" scents!

Smoky wood and edible vanilla. A bit of a high alcohol/Gaiac feel first on, but that lovely almost pudding vanilla is great, with a touch of proper firewood. This is one of favorite smoked vanillas. If you like your vanilla less sweet and more nuanced, this is a good one to try, and her prices and quality are great.

It’s smells very similar to Loggia to me. I love the vanilla and woodsy notes. This fragrance makes me want to cozy up in front of a fire place during winter time and put up Christmas ornaments on the tree while A Charlie Brown Christmas album is playing

This is a lovely leather, woody vanilla. Leather is not listed, and it's probably the agar wood, but those are the primary notes for me. Satisfyingly delicious, comforting and sexy. I just love it!

Ohh this is good stuff! Its cotton candy with sweet wood. The wood seems to be a little bit smoky. It has lasted a half hour so far and going strong.

If you want a super affordable dupe, I own both Manor and Raghba Wood Intense by Lattafa. I would say they are like 85% similar.
