Orient Rose

Wow.Wow, wow. This is gorgeous. I have been looking for my perfect sweet, but warm spicy rose. Where Rose was prominent, the spices (cloves, in this case Vetiver) were sweet and warm and mild. There we have it. This perfume IS STRONG. Projects a few feet off one spray on each wrist and it's still pretty strong. The longevity is really long. It smells very very high quality and natural. If Jo Malone's Velvet Rose & Oud, & Armani Privee Rose d' Arabie had a child with great projection and longevity. This would be it. Damn. This is nice. What a pleasant surprise. The vanilla in this is slightly noticeable It's not a sickly sweet vanilla either. It's a fresh balsamic vanilla. But this perfume is about the rose. A red velvet rose that blooms in the moonlight.. I'm going to be buying a big bottle of this spray perfume. Well done. It's sexy and mysterious. Like Morticia Addams in a form fitting black silk floor Length dress at midnight in front of an open window in the dark of night. While she clips the roses off the stems in a big ornate black and red vase. With nothing but the big full moon to give her light. As Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata plays on the victorola in the background and wolves howl in the cemetery in the yard below the window. Yeah. It's like that.

wow this is beautiful...one of my favorite SS scents thus far. it's a jammy vanilla-rose with hints of amber. really beautiful and rich. a dark red rose with a sweetness and gorgeous depth. after about 10-15 minutes on the skin i get a slightly animalic note as well, but mostly this is a rich velvety dark red rose. off the top of my head it sits somewhere between lush's rose jam and amouage's epic woman. a beautiful, rich, bold blood red rose. one of my favorite types of scent. i love this and need a large bottle, stat.

Adore this, sure doesn't smell like Calligraphy Rose to me at all. AT ALL. CR is harsh, much more of a Middle Eastern fragrance. This is all soft, romantic rose amber with a creamy kind of powder. Your'e nose is so engaged, evolves beautifully. Searched everywhere for something like this and I finally found it with an Indie. Never ignore the Indies.

A beautiful, bold, jammy rose with sweet amber. Yes, the projection comes off a bit musky, but I doubt anyone would find this offensive. It's just very beautiful and well blended. If you love roses, I'd say pick up a sample of this and try it because you won't be disappointed. EDIT: If you are looking for a similar jammy rose, without the musky projection, check out Nocturne Alchemy's Eternal Ankh Rose de Mai. It has a jammy rose like this, but has the same sweetness as Solstice Scents Rose Mallow Cream (without the powdery note). It's the best of both fragrances. :D

264 Soapy(musk?) sweet vanilla roses. Also jammy, like rose petal jam but still with bright red scented roses. The soapiness isn’t my favorite, but the deep layers of roses and sweet vanilla makes up for it. It’s a very dense, layered roses scent. It works well in all seasons. 8/10-unique rose scent, bottle gets better with time too.

Creamy, sugary rose on me — like a rosewater-scented macaron or Turkish delight. Too sweet and heady for me to wear every day, but it’s a pleasant version of what it is

This is a very old fashioned, heavy rose to me. It’s pretty in the perfumey and heady way, with lots of spice and powder. Gets sweeter as it dries down. It reminds me of a more complex, spicier Rose Jam by Lush. I would have to be in a very specific mood for this one, maybe at a once in a few years frequency.

Oooooooooh - this is SO elegant. It’s such a beautiful rose with dark facets, jammy facets but an incredibly natural rose. It definitely opens with dominant rose but it’s quite layered and has great depth. The quality is outstanding - generous helping of various absolutes brings out the different characters of each rose. The honeyed and the almost berry-wine like jamminess, the freshness and the spice - the blend of natural rose absolutes has captured a wonderfully captivating gamut of rosy scent characteristics. The rose is supported by other incredibly well executed accords - the rich and creamy vanilla musk and amber, an ambergris accord so natural smelling i would never have known it was vegan and a stunning vetiver. I only only the smell of excellent natural vetiver and in this composition it’s put to excellent use - you have this dark juicy rose beautifully framed by a warm, very slightly spicy and earthy accompaniment that has a distinctly oriental feel to it (no surprise there lol). But the « earthiness » of the vetiver and ambergris is not at all like the dirt notes i dislike - it’s like a warm hug from someone whose skin smells amazing. What my nose identifies as the earthiness has an almost chocolate like quality without actually possessing a chocolate note - it’s just very very seductive and elegant. Incredibly well blended! I also understand why this would be compared to Calligraphy’s rose but to my nose SS Orient Rose is five trillion times better than Calligraphy’s take on an oriental rose frag. The Calligraphy version has a dissonant note that takes away from the overall effect of the perfume and it just doesn’t drip with quality and elegance the way this does. I would say that this is what Calligraphy rose wishes it smelled like on its very best day. Again - this isn’t to diss the comparison it makes sense but to me the difference between the very similar concepts is that Solstice made Orient Rose and spared almost no expense when it came to ingredient quality and when I do a side to side test I get the impression that Calligraphy’s Rose was made on a budget because SS Orient Rose just smells so much more luxurious. I am not sure I understand why it’s ethically important the ambergris be vegan since no whales are harmed in the procurement of ambergris it just washes up on shore - but this is one of those rare instances where I honestly would never have known it was synthetic ambergris If they had not explicitly said so. It is just as wonderful as the real deal. Since SS does not tend to skimp on pricey quality ingredients I suspect the choice was made so that people who only want all vegan products could wear this rather than as a way to save on the cost of formula creation. Anyhoo - to my nose the generous hand with ingredients pays off because this beautiful and elegant rose just screams opulence and elegance.

This is a lovely rich and spicy rose. I have several of the modern rose fragrances that have oud in them; this does not, which for me makes it more wearable, sweeter and more mellow. It’s like “Marshmallow Mor” dolled up for a night out. The rose is prominent and amped up by spices and sweet vanilla that complement the rose but do not overpower; the amber is sweet and lux with only a tiny hint of powder. The rose is lush - no dewy green tea rose this, but a bold, unctuous, red apothecary rose candied with vanilla sugar. Longevity is 4-6 hours, sillage is arms length but not overpowering. Wear this one for yourself or a snuggly date with the one you love.

Gotta jump in to praise this incredible rose fragrance. It layers so many lovely rose oils that the resulting juice is to die for, especially for true rose lovers. It is a dark, thick, rich rose; warm and inviting. The “mallow” aspect of this fragrance is strongest at the start, and then settles down. I don’t mind it at all, but my partner says he is smelling thick musk whenever I walk past him. For him, it really overtakes the fragrance. He is not a fan, and it totally breaks my heart because I am a rose fragrance fan and this one is really hitting the spot for me. Oh well, I will let hubby have this one veto vote. Sigh.

dark, spicy rose indeed! I totally get the comparison with Calligraphy rose, as Orient rose seems to also have myrrh in there (altho not individually listed as note). It gets a little softer with time and the vanilla joins the party. It is not the fresh rose that I get here, it's jammy, slightly dried version to me. The name is apt, the take is rather similar to Arabic rose frags. Recommended to devout rose lovers only!
