Rose Custard Kulfi

Hands down my favorite of the dozen Solstice Scents I've tried. Replica frags have one called "Dancing on the Moon" and when I smelled this Rose Custard Kulfi it made me think of The Police's "Walking on the Moon" song. Replica could have used these notes for the their dancing on the moon inspiration instead of their white floral accord choice. To me, this smells like a full moon outdoor dinner party, that Police song, or just love for the moon. Children's storybooks tell us the moon is made of cheese. Well, after smelling this, I'm confident to report it's more like milky sweet custard! Angela St. John's descriptions do really well at comprising her frags. Nevertheless, the cardamom is not faint as she writes. Everything does blend seamlessly and it does evolve fast and then settle down to exactly as what she says above. This has all the components of a gourmand, yet genre bends because it doesn't perform like a ditsy, lacking weightier substance gourmand. This frag has soul, many facets, and will delight many ages with unisex appeal.

Starts off as pure baked goods coming out of the oven and miraculously dries down to a delicious jammy rose scent. Further developes a little balsamic powderiness and stays that way for a while. Gorgeous.

Similar to rose mallow but more gourmand, denser and spicier. It’s her older sister. I def love this one more.

****40th**** There are so many different kinds of sweet notes in perfumery and while all smell great initially, they can also make a person nauseous. This was a very dimensional kulfi, well done, drizzled honey sweet, toasty, nutty, sweet cream, with a hint of rose and cardamom (properly like this dessert should have). It was too much for me quickly, dessert overload, but out in the air it was nice getting breezes of it. But I think, at least for me, this would be great if you’re on a diet (cutting sweets) and for cooler weather. The overwhelming sweetness does something to the brain: it keeps me from wanting to eat dessert after spraying this scent around me. 7/10

Everything said below: a very sweet custard with rose jam and a nuclear dose of cardamom. After about an hour I started to develop nasal fatigue. I think I would like it better with the sweetness turned down. But fans of the dessert gourmand genre should get their nose on it.

holy smokes. so much cardamom initially, toothachingly candy-like cardamom. I was like, this is not going to work between us. Dries down to a creamy pudding tho.

Oh my! The opening is a rose punch straight to the nose. At first the forceful rose dominates everything and it's awful, but quickly the gourmands gain ground and it transforms into quite a creamy dessert. The lime, coconut milk custard, and dates are quite enjoyable once the floral fades into a more palatable rose water. I tested the perfume spray and the perfume oil. Much prefer the spray as the rose burns off quicker and I can smell the gourmand notes more clearly. The oil lasts longer but is slightly less interesting as it takes longer to develop. Rose Custard Kulfi eau de parfum is my first foray into Solstice Scents. Rose-flavored kulfi (an Indian ice-cream treat) floats atop dominant date and cardamom notes. The samples came in sepia-toned packaging, with "Thank you, Connie!" handwritten in calligraphy on a pretty postcard. this definitely starts off very sweet and gourmand-i get vanilla custard, sugar, lime, saffron and hints of rosewater. a few minutes later i get some nuttiness and coconut. the lime and rose are short lived and this eventually becomes a very sweet custard with coconut. personally,i was hoping for a lot more rose.

I keep revisiting my sample of this, because I want to love it, and kind of do. There's just something about it that I find unpleasant. I suspect it might be the saffron, as I don't think it's any of the other notes, and I have noticed that it can smell a little odd when I cook with it. It also smells pretty powdery initially. It does mellow out into something rather pleasant, so this isn't really a negative review, but on application, I do find it a bit offputting. I am a gourmand lover, especially anything that juxtaposes spicy and sweet notes, and maybe throws in something a little more grownup, sexy, "exotic." This should be right up my alley, and to a degree it is, but I'm not sure I'd buy it when there are so many good options, even from Solstice. As I write this, though, I'm finding the aroma on my wrists pretty addictive, so maybe don't listen to me? I guess it's a love/hate thing. 😂 The opening isn't great, but now I am getting some pretty tantalizing wafts of spicy sweet sexiness... I think if it had cinnamon instead of saffron, it might be less true to the dessert inspiration, but I would love it a little bit more than I already do.

This is a GOOD "spiced" rose. The spices are done very delicately, so don't let that scare you. At least I know it would scare me away if I hadn't smelled it first. How it smells? ...The rose is brightened by the lime peel for sure - but they do blend together nicely. The whole fragrance has a creamy thickness from the custard. Not too thick though. This very much smells like fragrant rose & lime-zest-infused custard... I am also a lover of citrus-vanilla gourmands and this is (SORT OF) along those lines -- but make it a rose fragrance. This is more of a floral-gourmand I'd say... sweetened from the sugar, but not super sweet either... the other notes add that "fragrant" aspect to the custard and come through a little more as it dries down. It's a well-done fragrance and smells more expensive than it costs. Projects well, no issues at all. And seems to last until I wash it off I'm not sure which I prefer though? This or their Rose Mallow? Impressions from oil-sample. Have tested at least 4-5 times by now.

Sweet rose with spices, but there's something in the background that is sooooooo off... Like oil went bad or something. It was a scrubber.

To me, this is all about the dates. They are the star. It's so good.
