Winter Dove

Solstice Scents "Winter Dove": I can totally see why the person below whiffed eggnog--but it's CARNATION with eggnog. It's spicy! It has that genuine carnation-sweet spice along with the nutmeg and veers into feminine territory (could be unisex). I love it. I just discovered Angela St. John about 3 months ago, after hearing of her on blogs. Her scents are fantastic, the real deal, great professionalism in handling customers and at the forefront of American Perfumery. I prefer her deep dark woods and incenses, but I'm going out and about today, and another package arrived with my order. Most of the stuff is all heavy, but I thought today I'd go with something light and festive and just uplifting. It is. This seems simple, but for those who love carnations this perfume is something special. The nutmeg backs up the floral constituent nicely while vanilla and the creamy whip makes it warm and admittedly somewhat "foodie" up close. Carnation is in the silage though. I cannot recommend Solstice Scents enough though it may mean products get changed, or may run out etc. There's something for everyone, though many of the scents steer into gourmand territory.

Winter Dove is as close as this vegan Aussie has ever been to egg nog, so I can't comment on that aspect! ;) Negative first: I do get a bit of Yankee Candle vibe from this one. Not in a bad way, but it's there for me. Possibly because that's one of the few places where I've sniffed this particular combination of scents before so that's my reference. Positives: I love it! It's so incredibly comforting. It feels like coming home after a long day. Despite the name, what I see/feel is pure autumn. Specifically, an autumn afternoon with golden sunlight streaming through the trees. Warm and introspective. Almost woody. The carnation is beautiful, and for me ranges from fresh in the garden/florist hyper realism (with a dewy coolness that really contributes to that autumnal feeling), to an almost dried, nostalgic quality. Lovely layered with Postprandial. :)

This is an absolutely stunning perfume oil. At first it smells so much like real eggnog--my nutmeg dream come true! It smells creamy and spicy. As it wears on the skin, the carnation emerges in full splendor. It smells like the real flower while still alive on the plant. Just incredible how realistic it is! Altogether, this makes a gorgeous and extremely unique fragrance. I have never in my life encountered a perfume that this reminds me of, and that is a huge compliment because almost all perfumes remind me of others. It is spicy, creamy, floral, delicate, and warm. Lovely for the colder months and a little hard to imagine it working in warm months. "Winter Dove" is an apt name.

Nutmeg's one of my favorite spices, and a creamy version of it takes a front seat in Winter Dove, along with carnation. Soon the flower's hint of clove intensifies and shares the limelight. Underneath this trio lies mellow vanilla. All get along in one sustained accord in this spice/floral/gourmand extrait that grows even more delicious as time goes on. the carnation really cuts down the potential for smelling like an autumnal candle. pretty unisex. sexy eggnog smell. phenomenal for layering with dk black cashmere or essence wenge. also good with avon artistique oud grandeur.

The carnation with the spices is a winner for me. It is a slow burn... after about 30 minutes of testing different perfumes all at once, I'll say "what is that Amazing Smell?" and it's Winter Dove. I ended up buying it.

The opening is pure eggnog and it is delicious. Warm, cozy, a bit spicy, but super creamy. I love it so much! It loses that a bit as it dries down to something more tame and floral.

Winter Dove is a warm spicy floral sweetened by creamy vanilla. I love that Solstice Scents incorporates carnation into some of their perfumes. It's such a lovely floral note that you don't see that much any more. The nutmeg is an elegant spice note that blends beautifully with the carnation. Outstanding!

I get eggnog in the beginning, quickly transitioning to a strong carnation note. The carnation smells a lot like clove. This scent took some time to grow on me, and now I reach for Winter Dove quite often.

Definitely agree with the eggnog/carnation Vibe going on here. Would be a unique holiday scent for winter. A nice spicy floral gourmand

A nice spice oil for layering. I like to layer with a good rose absolute oil.

The opening is crushed carnations. If you are not familiar, imagine whole roses, pink pepper, black peppercorns, and sugar all muddled together with a morter and pestle. Floral, spicy, sweet, with a touch of green. As it settles the floral notes calm and the green fades out so the warming spice shines brighter. It's nice, and unusual which gives it extra points in my opinion. I'm glad to have tested it but I wouldn't consider a full bottle as this is just too floral and kinda loud for my taste. I find the name, WINTER DOVE, very strange for this fragrance. As an Alaskan I might be a bit too hard on the name but it doesn't correlate to the scent story. What part is the winter or the dove? It's clearly well done for what it is. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes spicy florals, especially if they're looking for a signature scent! As others have said, it does smell a bit like eggnog (a beverage I haven't had since I was a teenager). How fun! To me this smells like a spicy and nutty carnation rounded by vanilla cream. Smells beautiful. One of my favorites from this house. I bought a sample pack from Solstice Scents after reading the fragrantica article the house and being very intrigued by their offerings. I like every single sample I ordered. They smell natural and some are quite unique. -

On application it smells like a sophisticated spicy eggnog. And in the tradition of post modern cuisine, this spicy eggnog quickly deconstructs Into a vanillic carnation balanced by a woody nutmeg heart. I have the oil, which wafts a carnation whose edges are tamed with sweet cream sometimes giving off delicate tendrils of a perfectly judged vanilla to balance the spice. This carnation sillage goes on a good few hours before settling into a woody almost anisic creamy vanilla skin scent. I like the oil because you can reapply it without overdoing the dry down for a lasting gourmand experience. Smells very natural.

I selected this scent as a freebie - the reviews make it sound more gourmand than my tastes usually run. “Cream” notes in perfume are off-putting to me. I fell in love immediately though: eggnog-ish? Yes, but only briefly upon first application, when the cream note is strong. It’s not a bad rendition of cream though ( not sour, as cream notes often are to my nose) a very vanilla- heavy, sweet note. It quickly takes a back-seat: although it’s still present for the dry-down, it’s definitely secondary to the nutmeg and the most wonderful, lush, spicy carnation. Very good staying power as well, lasting hours for me.

I received a sample of this and it instantly became a necessary fragrance for me. I am on the fence with carnation, but it is spicy and lush at the same time. I'm also a sucker for a gourmand and this scent walks the line between a gourmand/floral dream.

47th Oil form: I was looking forward to eggnog, nutmeg, and carnation. I didn't smell eggnog, nor nutmeg, just a vanilla cream carnation candle. This would make a nice candle scent in my opinion. 6/10
