Night on the Nile

What an interesting opening. There is a waft of leather on the initial application that quickly (under a minute) lightens drastically but doesn’t vanish. Night on the Nile quickly comes into being as a very balanced fragrance. The leather note this was initially so strong is still prominent but paired with an oud. In the background there is a citrusy grapefruit note along with something slightly sweet and fruity. Performance wise Night on the Nile is very good. Longevity wise I got about 8 hours on my skin and 6 on my clothing. A 7/10 here. On the projection side I only got a radious of maybe a foot, possibly slightly less. This lasted for the first 5 hours and then faded to more of a strong skin scent. Rising between 1 and 3 inches from my skin depending on location. A 8/10 here. Night of the Nile is a really pleasant leather fragrance to me, mainly because it isn’t pure leather. Most of the leather fragrances I have tried in the past claim to have another notes but in reality are just a leather note. It’s very enjoyable to smell a fragrance that has a strong plesent leather note that is accented well by other notes. Night on the Nile is an 8/10 for me overall. I also really appreciate the fact that this fragrance has a strong plesent scent without projection that makes it unwearable in a lot of situations.

been seeing a lot of ads and figured why not so i bought it on sale. nice, pressurized atomizer, doesn't stick as long on skin ESPECIALLY for an extrait. really juicy opening with passionfruit, grapefruit, and a nice subtle rose, not syrupy in any way. once it dries down the oud and leather really show through, although the passionfruit does linger. i was confused about the vanilla note, but after waiting and drying for some time, it finally showed up. not a daytime scent by any means, the oud and leather are too strong to be wearing this is anything but cool weather lol. 8/10 I really wish the leather note wasn't there as I personally am not a big fan of leather in fragrance but altogether a really great scent.

This is a way better version of Oud Maracuja, well blended and easy to wear in most occasions. It definitely makes you stand out

The passionfruit is the first to hit the nose, delivering a juicy, tropical sweetness with a tart, tangy edge that feels very true to the aroma of real passionfruit. The Turkish rose follows closely, bringing a rich, velvety floral accord that leans distinctly jammy, adding both sweetness and body to the composition. Beneath that, the oud provides a foundation of dark, slightly earthy woodiness, giving the fragrance depth early on. The leather weaves in alongside the oud, introducing a subtle animalic edge that adds texture without overpowering the brighter notes. In the background, saffron contributes a gentle warmth with a faint spicy nuance that ties the composition together. The result is an opening that is immediately and unmistakably reminiscent of Oud Maracuja, not just in overall feel, but in structure and composition as well. Every note present in Night on the Nile is also found in Oud Maracuja, making Night on the Nile come across less as inspired by, and more as a near one-to-one replication of that DNA. Dry Down: The dry down is fruity, leathery, and woody. The primary notes I get are passionfruit, leather, oud, and saffron, with the passionfruit and leather leading. The passionfruit remains firmly at the forefront, maintaining that same juicy, tropical sweetness with no real drop in intensity, continuing to drive the fragrance’s identity. The leather, however, has risen significantly in prominence, now delivering a more pronounced animalic character that adds weight and texture, giving the dry down a darker and more rugged feel compared to the opening. The oud also becomes more noticeable, reinforcing the composition with a deeper, earthier woodiness that feels slightly dirtier and more grounded at this stage. The saffron rounds everything out with a soft, warm spiciness that ties the fruit and darker elements together. The result is a dry down that not only mirrors the opening’s structure but leans even further into the same DNA as Oud Maracuja, with the overlap in notes and progression becoming even more apparent, reinforcing the impression that this is effectively a near one-to-one interpretation of that composition. Performance: Projection in the opening is extremely strong and easily capable of filling a room, making an immediate and commanding impression. Sillage follows with a heavy, dense scent trail that carries the bold fruity and animalic character with ease. After about three to four hours, the projection softens slightly but is still reaching out at least six feet, while the scent trail shows little to no noticeable drop-off, remaining thick and present. As it moves into the seven to eight hour range, the projection settles further to around four to five feet, and the scent trail becomes a bit lighter but is still easily noticeable. The fragrance continues to wear for an impressive eleven to twelve hours before transitioning into a skin scent. Overall, this is a powerhouse performer with strong longevity, projection, and presence throughout its lifespan. When to Wear: Night on the Nile fits squarely into fall and winter, where its density and intensity feel most appropriate. As its name suggests, it leans heavily toward evening wear, aligning well with settings where a bold and attention-grabbing fragrance is the goal. It performs best in social environments such as parties or nights out, where its projection and distinct profile can stand out, and could also work for date nights if applied with restraint. However, it does not translate well to more reserved environments. It is too loud and assertive for casual daytime wear, far too heavy for the office, and lacks the refinement needed for formal occasions. This is a fragrance that demands presence, and should be worn accordingly. Blind Buy: Night on the Nile is not a safe blind buy. Much like Oud Maracuja, it caters to a very specific taste, one that appreciates the contrast between bright, juicy fruit and dark, animalic undertones. The passionfruit is loud, sweet, and immediately attention-grabbing, while the leather introduces a bold, slightly rugged edge, and the oud brings a deeper, dirtier woodiness that adds weight and intensity. That combination creates a fragrance that is both striking and polarizing, rather than universally appealing. Even for those who enjoy fruity fragrances, the added animalic and woody facets may come across as too heavy or unconventional. At the same time, those who enjoy oud may find the prominent fruitiness to be an unexpected twist. Because of this push and pull between sweetness and darkness, it is important to experience how it wears on your skin before committing. If you already know you enjoy the Oud Maracuja DNA, this becomes a relatively safer purchase. Otherwise, sampling is strongly recommended to ensure it aligns with your personal taste and comfort level. Final Verdict: As has become clear throughout the wear, Night on the Nile is unmistakably Sphinx Fragrances’ take on Maison Crivelli’s Oud Maracuja. The similarities are not subtle, they are direct, from the note structure to the way the fragrance develops on skin. Both deliver that same striking contrast of tropical fruit against dark, animalic depth, and both perform at an extremely high level, though Oud Maracuja does hold onto its peak performance slightly longer. Where the difference becomes noticeable is in the refinement. Oud Maracuja carries a level of polish and natural richness that reflects its higher price point, while Night on the Nile, although very well done, does not quite reach that same level of blending or material quality. That said, this distinction will likely go unnoticed by most people outside of close comparison. What ultimately matters for many is the value proposition. For those who enjoy the Oud Maracuja DNA but cannot justify its extortionate price, Night on the Nile offers a nearly one to one alternative at a fraction of the cost. However, if I’m going to own this DNA, I want the best version of it, and that is undeniably Oud Maracuja. As a result, I will be passing on a full bottle purchase of Night on the Nile in lieu of an eventual bottle of Oud Maracuja. This is an amazing fragrance. First off, the bottle design is top-notch. The fragrance is high quality. It opens with leather, grapefruit, and passion fruit (the passion fruit is strong). That leather and passion fruit last until the mid, and once it dries down to the bottom notes, that's when the sweetness starts to mellow out and you begin to get that amber with the leather, and it smells amazing. I personally don't think this fragrance is too masculine or too feminine; in my opinion, it's right in the middle. Yes, it opens a bit fruity, but if you give it some time, the leather, saffron, oud, and amber will eventually take over, adding some warm darkness to this fragrance. Just get it. I'd say sample it, though, because that passion fruit can come off strong in the opening, and I understand if some fellas don't agree with it. I'll give this an official wear, and ill give real world results update.

First time trying this brand, this is basically oud maracuja but with a heavier focus on the passion fruit, i wouldn’t say this is a dupe it’s more an iteration of oud maracuja like a “flanker”, it is very strong and has great longevity, i think the ratings on this are unjustified unless you are scoring on originality but overall id give this a 8/10 it’s fit for summer nights, my bottle is too passion fruit heavy to be in winter rotation in my opinion but over time it may mellow out and the other notes can have a chance. Edit: I apologise I thought this was just a flanker of oud maracuja but it’s different yes the opening is similar but the dry down is the key difference, that jammy sweet rose, wow really really good on the skin

Although not a brand known for making dupes, Night on the Nile is as close to an Ombre Nomade clone as you can get. I would say the main difference is the lack of raspberry, which Sphinx has replaced with passionfruit and grapefruit to achieve that same fruity/tart quality ON has; it's 95% the exact same fragrance, as you can clearly see from the listed notes in both fragrances. In terms of projection, sillage and longevity, I would say while ON would take no more than three sprays to be effective, NOTN would be about 3-4; it's virtually the same. If you're looking for an Ombre Nomade scent without the $400+ price-tag, look no further than Night on the Nile.

This smells like those scented candles that try very hard to appeal to men. Not as bad as chocolate citronique, but still nothing I’d wear.

This is a marvelous and gorgeous, blooming, ambery rose with a beautiful passionfruit, airy saffron, a swath of elegant leather, a perfect amount of very approachable and appealing oud and lovely, creamy vanilla in the base. Bright, sweet grapefruit and bergamot along with that airy saffron make the opening fresh and appealing. The juicy, fruity passionfruit almost bursts to succeed the citrus and remains more dominant from there. Then that rose! A lovely jammy rose leans in and then holds beautifully all the way into the dry down. Oud, leather and patchouli play complementary roles in the composition and all three are elegant and perfectly balanced. A wonderful, warm amber and a nice creamy vanilla add depth and substance to the blend and beautify the scent immensely. The fragrance is very well blended and smooth from start to finish and the scent experience is impeccable and gorgeous the entire time. This is a brand new addition to my collection and I’m loving it. Yes, it does resemble Oud Maracuja due to the presence of passionfruit, oud and rose. But this IS NOT a clone by any means. The rose is much more prominent and much more jammy to my nose and the oud is less potent and more “wearable” in my opinion. Overall, this is an amazing fragrance. Definitely a statement maker and definitely gorgeous!

Much more palatable version of Oud Maracuja. That’s probably because I am female, but this is what I wished OM was. More passionfruit and less leather. This is my second Sphinx purchase and I am impressed, I hate to use the D word but the 2 I have tried are very, very similar to other popular releases (Mangolicious Hibistorm- combo of God of Fire and Hibiscus Mahajad). I admire the subtle differences though, and at decent prices.

On first spray this smells a lot like those shisha hookah flavors taste/smell and reminiscent of Rihanna Rogue, but then becomes more complex and spicy. Definitely didn't like the first few minutes but I am beginning to enjoy it
