Cigar Rum

Sampling Strangers Parfumerie Cigar Rum, seemingly one of the more popular entries from the line that I’ve heard the most about, and it’s a straightforward blend of tobacco and rum, mostly, with a sort of complementary spicy vibe that consists of resins, dried fruits, mandarin, woods, vetiver, and (curiously) seaweed. I get something a little peppery in the dry down, though pepper is not a listed note. The blend has a subtle, not prominent, sweetness, due to the dried fruits, probably, with something vaguely savory, perhaps via the seaweed. Still, the cigar and the rum are (fittingly) the main story, and fortunately, the result is not too similar to other boozy and/or sweet tobacco scents in the market that I’ve tried, as it’s not laden with honey, vanilla, or loud fruity notes, and the booze concept itself isn’t saccharine but instead leans a little more acerbic, as rum in particular sometimes does. Overall, this is a great blend, and resists becoming too sharp (between the rum, tobacco, spicy vibe, and seaweed), balanced well with the resins and slight sweetness. It’s an easy winner for cold weather especially (like the coffee-named scents from the line that I tried previously), strong but overpowering, and has a sophisticated vibe. Cigar Rum comes in EDP concentration and the house’s standard EDP pricing of $80 for 30ml, and is sold at Luckyscent and Indiescents. Luckyscent also sells a fairly comprehensive discovery set of 2ml spray samples. 8 out of 10

Given how popular Maison Margiela's Jazz Club is, You HAVE to try this. Opening hits you with a strong authentic whiskey/rum scent, it singes the nose a little. After about 10 minutes it mellows out and that's where the magic starts, it reveals layers upon layers. This fragrance smells sun-soaked and rugged, with layer of dried fruits. Raisins, dates, and maybe even prunes? While I know Dionysus is the Greek god of wine, not rum, this smells like the scent of Dionysus. It draws immediate comparisons to Jazz Club, but this is Jazz Club's older brother. Where Jazz Club is bright, young, playful, with a party-in-the-1920s feel, Cigar Rum is mature, grounded, and richer in both depth and expensive ingredients. There's a note of a smoldering cigar(not cigarette) or burning charcoal somewhere in there too. If you’ve ever wished Jazz Club to smell more expensive and mature, this is it. On clothes it smells exactly like sitting in a vintage car(perhaps a 1930s Sedan or a 1940s Cadillac) with leather bench seats that's been baking under the sun all afternoon, windows down, salty coastal wind blowing in. At $3.00 per ml, it’s slightly pricier than indie favorites like ELDO or Zoologist, but ABSOLUTELY worth the markup. It smells handcrafted and wonderful.

One of my favourites from the house. Surprised that so one has mentioned Vanille Havane (one of my all time favourites), it’s not as complex or rich, but the elements are similar enough to remind me of it (unsurprisingly with rum and tobacco). Great cold weather material and decent value.

Now THAT is what Maison Margiela Jazz Club is supposed to be! FYI, I hated Jazz Club, it stinks of used cigarettes... This fragrance, on the other hand, is everything that I wanted from such a scent! It's boozy, it's fruity, it's smoky, it's smells sophisticated <3 I love it!

Cigar Rum just smells good. The opening is my favorite part, but I love the dry down as well. The opening is a rum raisin and tobacco affair and the dry down brings the woodiness into the mix. Back up bottle worthy in my opinion.

After sampling LOTS of tobacco, booze, vanilla/honey, spice, leather, and oud combinations, I've come back to this with new appreciation. It's very well blended with a distinctive Prin depth.

Excellent fragrance, summery tobacco and rum. Not beastly but no lightweight. Nominated for an award and I can easily see why. For the price an great buy.

Opens up boozy and tobaccoy with hints of dried fruits, quite strong but a little bit too basic.

Just got a sample of this and oh my God...can't stop smelling my wrist. Absolute masterpiece.

The only smokey sweet fragrance I have tried that my skin doesn't eat up in an hour or two. I have tried a couple of others (namely Midnight Toker by Heretic and Ecrin de Fumee by Serge Lutens) and neither lasted very long despite having good longevity reviews. Cigar Rum lasts a bit over 10 hours for me. The opening is very much a strong rum and raisin scent. To me, the initial spritz is very gourmand and quite realistic to literally rum and raisin. After that, that kinda goes away pretty much completely for me and is then taken over by a cigarette scent. Not an herbal tobacco scent, which I think is what I expected, but *straight up* cigarette. Or what a cigarette smoker smells like. Not my favourite phase of the dry down, but it doesn't stay that way for me after a few more hours. Towards its end, I get more amber, more resins maybe and some of the fruit notes return. Not in a sharp and bright way. It's quite soft, with just a hint of smokiness. Might consider purchasing a full size bottle once my sample is done because as I mentioned before, I find smokey sweet fragrance hard to wear due to longevity but this one has performed decently on me. The transformation of each fragrance note throughout its wear is also quite dynamic on me, which I find really interesting. It'd also be nice to support a brand from the SEA region, which this originates from too.

I'm slightly conflicted about this fragrance because it's all a little bit too 'surface' for me, with not nearly enough depth. The surface for what it's worth is gorgeous, opening with a boozy warmth which almost evaporates off like you just flambed your skin...in a good way. Then the overriding feeling is rum & raisin ice cream but less rounded out and cosy, perhaps a little thin? The dried fruit aspect of this is dominant right the way into when it settles, and that usually works perfectly with the dark, bitterness of tobacco. Sadly the tobacco in this isn't all that bitter and is quite clean, almost floral, what is sometimes referred to as white tobacco and not the 'cigar' that the name of this release suggests. I find the drydown has slightly more of a classic masculine smell, a touch of leather on amber but primarily still a reasonably lighthearted & fruity scent. I'd actually say it's unique because it isn't the tobacco trope I was expecting and to infer that's it's lacking depth might be a bit harsh? Gigar Rum is actually suited to the lovely warm weather we are having in the UK at the moment. Perhaps, it's that left turn that has thrown me? In any case I enjoyed it but it didn't quite take it to the next level and the performance is a little suspect, retreating to my skin very quickly.

Picked up a sample from fragrancesamplesuk, to be honest I think this is a safe blind buy providing you like booze and tobacco notes - there's no strange surprises. This appears to be a great example of why many of us like fragrances - reading the other reviews there's several who rate it and others describing it as either a dirty neighbour who smokes too much or a beach bum. I like this and I absolutely get tobacco from it, opening has a blast of booze. Dry down is much softer and becomes more of a spiced wood, you get a very slight cola note which I suspect is why some have listed Enigma as a similar fragrance. To me it reminds me of my grandfather - he smoked tobacco in a pipe. Not something I'd wear everyday but very fun to put on at the weekend or winter months. However, it doesn't invoke bad memories for me at all, no old man on the beach or next door neighbour who smokes too much. Which I both find really fun descriptions of it. I agree this is probably the more wearable one over Intense and I can't stop smelling it when I've tested it.

Super rum-heavy opening. I find rum to be a difficult note in some fragrances such as Kilian Straight to Heaven, with its slightly patchouli-medicinal sweet edges. If you enjoy the smell of rum you will find it to be vibrant and well captured here. That rum burst fades kind of fast, however, and within two minutes the fragrance shifts to a gently pruney ambery tobacco. The booze never leaves entirely just moves to the back seat. It isn’t a deep dark slug of cigar or a sharp pointy gourmand, but a smooth and almost translucent tobacco. Imagine a Welch’s tobacco plum juice from concentrate, with a shot of Captain Morgan. In the same family as Replica Jazz Club but this is far, far more vibrant and realistic smelling in its evocation of booze and tobacco. On the sweeter side but certainly nothing immature. A pleasant experience overall and seems unisex. 8.0/10

It's an interesting fragrance and I really do like it. I suspect more of an olfactory experience than a fragrance I could wear but let's give it a few tests before deciding. It smells like a bit of everything is present. A rather linear scent. No journey. It is what it is. The tobacco strongly hits you first and then the rum. There after it quickly unfolds before you with grapes, resins and then wood. It remains the same until it fades. A unisex, boozy, tobacco, not very sweet, fruity wood scent. It does edge a touch to the masculine. It really does capture the brief well. A relaxed easy going atmosphere. A shame the longevity and sillage are not even average in this cool room. I suspect it might work better with warmth.

Cigar Rum Strangers Parfumerie (100 ml. bottle, store test, Rebellion). I was thinking this one will be that Ashy Cigar Rum with strong amber one. But when I sniff this, this is drastically light one?! No, it is not light as those cologne type. but this is just beautiful Rum scent. It is reminds me when the ice first hit the rum. you sniff the first smell of liquor. It is just right.. I don't sniff strong Cigar scent from this actually but I just test too many scent at once. But the liquor grab my first impression just right. It is linear, not develop much but I don't think you need any development When the scent was beautifully from the first step. I will re visit this one, 8/10

Surprisingly good. Cigar Rum by Strangers Parfumerie is a heavy tobacco scent that definitely has considerable depth beyond the dominant tobacco note. Boozy, damp, and with an amber dry down, Cigar Rum is not your simple masculine leaning tobacco fragrance. I haven’t had any experience with Strangers Parfumerie prior to blind buying Cigar Rum, but I thought it a risk worth taking based on reviews. Glad I did.

I got referred to this because I love Jazz Club and the notes are similar, however, this is completely different in my opinion. I got the rum and tobacco (quite smoky), but overwhelmingly for me I got dried fruits. It reminded me a little of making Christmas pudding when the dried fruits and alcohol are mixed together. Quite enjoyed it, and would wear winter or evening times.

I really like this sample. It reminds me of my fiancé after he’d smoke a cigar or when we’d go to the cigar stores and step inside with the humidifier on. All the flavors of the tabacco coming at your noise at once, I miss his smell. I miss him. I might buy the full bottle just because of it reminding of him.

This is a nice fruity boozy scent, not the deep rich boozy type, it has a lack of depth and poor performance on my skin but overall a very pleasant scent. I haven't tried the intense version.

Testing blind, this fragrance opens up with a strong ashy-tobacco affront with a bit of liquor and some caramel sweetness. This initially gives me 70’s man vibes and wearing a brown leather jacket with over-scaled aviator sunglasses while (obviously) sitting alone at a seedy dive bar contemplating that ex who clearly moved on years ago, babying the low-ball glass of some backwash brown stuff even Jack would quiver at. In other words, kind of a douche. However, it does get better with a bit of warmth from some amber nuttiness as it dries down, making it less annoyingly cloying and more viscous (thankfully). The liquor does come up and almost overtake the ashy tobacco but stops short. Looking at the notes, it is the usual suspects except for the seaweed, which I amount to adding nothing more than a hint of salt. This did open up stronger, drying down to moderate but really only lasted about 6 hours before almost vanishing. So, more of an event thing than an all day fragrance. Still I think it's a good buy for the fun personality. And while it is far from being overly dry and ashy, for me it just leans a bit too ashy, leaving me feeling more overcompensating for something. A hint, just a hint of too much bravado. I'd rather ditch the look altogether and keep my more romantic ambery-liquor preferences.

Straight away you get the rum, which is the only thing so far, starting off pretty basic before becoming a more refined rum that brings out the fruity accords...but I can’t help but notice the cigar/tobacco in this isn’t really prominent enough. It’s more of a tobacco-esque note that leans on the unburnt side of things, maybe it’s been used but again it’s not the most forward note in this profile. On the opening, I do get this overwhelming dried cherry accord, that marries with the rum, but it’s a top note since it fades away. Drying down, it really seems like this frag isn’t quite aptly named—any cigar here does not present itself in a meaningful fashion, but rather morphs into a woodsy identity with the fruity rum that’s already in here—fruity, smoothly tart and boozy, faintly powdery and resinous rum. The profile itself is already intimately projective, in which case falls out of my favor personally but might suit those looking for something more subtle. Marginally average performance.

This really does smell like a stale cigar and old cologne. It’s not unpleasant, though. I was looking forward to something unique because of the seaweed but all I really get from this is tobacco, wood, and something vaguely sweet.

It smells like my neighbours house when she opens the door to me. I get stale cigarettes over some kind of bland feminine perfume that she’s sprayed to try to cover her chain-smoking. We all know this person, that woman at work who smokes on her break then sprays something to compensate. As a non-smoker, I hate this stale smell on people. I’ve been to cigar shops in Cuba and this doesn’t have the same spectacular, deep seasoned richness. I’m just not getting on with this fragrance house in general.

I thought I’d love this since my BF smokes nice cigars on some weekends and they smell great. This is a cigar bar for an older crowd; the browish yellow walls were originally white 40 years ago. A super strong soggy cigar dunked in a glass of left over rum along with soggy cigarettes and ashes.

Cigar and Rum is probably one of the most sapid juxtapositions in perfumery. From the looks of the notes, it appears that Prin is dead set on turning our arms into cigarillos. The obvious question is...did he succeed? In this case, success is measured by your prowess. If you're a novice to this fragrance genre, it's likely that you will like this oriental offering. It starts off very robust with a flavorous compote that will shock the senses. The boozy accords are lockstep with the tobacco immediately validating the name of the fragrance...but let's pump the breaks right there. Do you remember growing up watching Looney Tunes? Do you remember when Wile E. Coyote would see an oasis in the desert only to realize that it wasn't actually an oasis that he was seeing? That's Cigar Rum after the 10 minute mark. It appears that the perfumer had a tough time translating some of the notes to skin. There are a few powerhouse ingredients that I would love to have experienced more of but to my chagrin, those notes were fleeting. In particular, the labdanum and amber notes were more stocking stuffer than the actual gift. The components would suggest that solidity would be found here. That couldn't be further from the truth. To maximize performance, one might have better luck spraying on his/her sweater. Speaking of her, this fragrance could potentially work very well for a woman simply because the ingredients are not teeming with a consistent "manly" essence. Me personally, I like my cigar fragrances to be more persistent. This one is close but no cigar.

Prin Lomros is an incredible perfumer so it’s a bit disheartening to acknowledge his shortcomings with Cigar Rum. Unfortunately this fragrance misses the mark on how it’s been described in lieu of a soulless, hollow shell of what we’ve come to know from Parfum Prissana and Prin. Cigar Rum is a vaguely sweet, aromachemical mess with a non descript “cologne” feel and something that is supposed to resemble tobacco but really it’s just an ashy texture laid upon a truly generic men’s Cologne. Prin uses his standard spice DNA blended into a scratchy chemical mess. Don’t get me wrong this doesn’t smell “bad” it just smells lifeless. It’s neither offensive or poorly constructed but rather it’s just bland. This doesn’t smell like a cigar in ANY capacity. As another user said below it smells like a stale perfume used to mask the aroma of someone’s house who habitually chain smokes and probably hasn’t changed the litter box in a month. I understand Prin made this for old business men on vacation in Thailand but I just can’t see how that’s tasteful or useful to put your name on. Cigar Rum for me conjures the image of a corny sleezeball that tries to hang out with teenagers on the beach but they’re 40 years too late for the party. They desperately want to smell like their finger is on the pulse of youth culture so they douse themselves in this garbage and talk about all the money they lost paying out alimony. Anyone who’s been on vacation at the beach knows this exact man. It’s not a good look and it’s not what I want to smell like.

What can I say - great combination of notes, most are big loves for me. The seaweed could have been an issue but not smelling it, there is a slight earthy mossy quality however that feels right here. A lovely boozy tobacco gourmand with resinous earthy qualities. Surprisingly it's not really super sweet though, just warm in an earthy realistic kind of way. I am loving sampling all these Strangers perfumes but I have to agree that lasting power isn't impressive in any of them (so far.) Which is fine for summer florals and citruses, when you are expected to plunge into a pool or shower twice a day, but definitely a requirement for the warming cool weather fragrances especially at this price point. I do love this scent, it's a great go-to when you want something boozy, spicy and inoffensive to get you through the day. It hits the spot and ticks MANY boxes -- the booziness is great in that you don't smell like a half-drunk glass of wine, and the spices perfectly complement the booze. I don't think this is a terribly complex scent, and the dynamics are minimal throughout its lifespan, but what I find most satisfying is how well it does the job. You know, sometimes you want a scent to wow you, or to help get you noticed, or something along those lines. This is NOT the scent for that -- not really, anyway. It just does the job. I have the small, round bottle and I don't see myself using this one *too* much, but when I do, I love having it on and it is great to catch little wafts of every so often...

first smell this was 80% herod to me, a much better version but literally just pipe tobacco with fruits. not saying it wasnt enjoyable but was just like hm this is super familiar. second time wearing it rn and im loving it even more. it's honestly just mainly a tobacco fragrance, so it's super true to its name as there is a boozy feeling to it, but other than the tobacco and some of the dried fruitiness in the later drydown (1-2 hours) i dont get much else and am honestly happy it's that way. this being a 30ml is also amazing too. I cant see myself wearing this very often but when i do wear it i'll be sure its for the perfect occasion lol. super dressed up type of vibe and its nice!

This is easily one of the cleanest, simplest tobacco fragrances that I've tried, but it's strikingly effective. Smells like a cigar shop humidor, with lingering notes of dark spiced rum, barbershop aftershave, patchouli smoke, and sweet raisin. It's a very atmospheric fragrance -- more than evoking a mood or a cluster of notes, it evokes a setting. It really feels like stepping into a cigar store, and a fancy, crisply clean one with a slick well-manicured and coiffed salesman at that. A very decidedly masculine fragrance but without any nose-burning or headache-inducing notes. The quality of the ingredients feels very high. It doesn't reek or overpower, but it's strong and bold.

got a sample of this in the mail today. absolutely in love with it. the scent is very mature and alluring. like making out in a cigar bar over a bed of vetiver on the most romantic street in all the world. couldn’t stop smelling my wrist all day. i applied around 3 or 4pm and it’s just beginning to wear down after midnight. new obsession unlocked and unless i end up liking one of my sample scents more as i try them out this week, i will be purchasing a full size.

Just sampled this and find it quite nice. The tobacco is very realistic and for me is the main note, followed by a strong presence of dried fruits. I don't get too much rum actually. It smells more like a person after a heavy night of mischief in Jamaica rather than an actual fragrance..if that makes sense. I guess that's why it's getting a bit of praise all over the place. Won't be buying as it takes over in the wrong ways but definitely will appeal to many

A drunken sailor wandering around Scarborough after a night on the town. Cigar smoke is very prominent in the opening also booze, spiced navy rum. When it calms down salty woody notes are present and it's very pleasant. I like fragrances that are interesting and make me keep smelling them, this is one of those that does that. It's not beastly for good reason, it would knock over any bystanders if it was.

From initial wearing only this is indeed lightweight and not as good as smelling from the cap. Thin is used by others to describe this and on my dry skin it is definitely that. So disappointing and a seller from my collection if further wearings are the same. But perhaps a summer evening scent suits it better?

I would consider this drastically more wearable than the intense version, although still a vibe fragrance imo. I think it accomplishes what its trying to do most likely however the performance on me was quite poor every time I tried.

It accomplishes what it means to accomplish: boozy rum with tobacco and dry fruit. Then you have a salty woody base that screams wooden pirate ship. It's really good. People who love Baraonda and Camel will like this.

good scent thou not very unique to my nose ,that rum and tobacco very present ..... and has a more lovelier dry down
