Yuzu Soda

Sampling Strangers Parfumerie Yuzu Soda, a fittingly fresh, tart, effervescent, semi-sweet concoction that’s a pleasant scent, particularly for warm weather, that nails the citrus soda concept as well as an example I’ve tried. It manages to be not too sweet or tart while clearly being a bit more focused on the yuzu, and therefore tarter, than, say, a standard lemon/lime soda like Sprite or 7UP. It has a bit of soul and depth to it, though, in the form of petitgrain, rosemary, and vetiver, so it’s not outright soda but more of a citrus/soda-forward, blended perfume. I’m very pleased with this and it’s nice that the first true freshie from the line (as Lumberjack Cologne has more of a year-round feel to it) is such a success. I like how it dries down to be a little less sharp, as is generally the case, while still maintaining most of its overall character from the opening. And it performs decently well, though not as loudly as the coffee fragrances from the line that I tried first when starting to sample it. Yuzu Soda is priced at $80 for 30ml, the standard EDP concentration pricing for the line, and is sold via Luckyscent and Indiescents. 8 out of 10

It's been a long time since I've loved a fragrance this much. This is gorgeous, seductive, and sophisticated. That opening of tart lemons and gardenia is the perfect blend of sweet and sour. It reminds me of a walk through the garden at dusk. We all know that I'm not one to sound so poetic. But it gets better! This fragrance smells like you can eat it - like oranges, chocolate and vanilla cake. It's perfect for an elegant, romantic dinner with your special someone. This is a grown-up, sophisticated fragrance that will make everyone regret not wearing enough perfume. The sweet, powdery scent is a dream come true and I’ve been getting so many compliments on it, too! It lasts all day long and is never overpowering - perfect for work or an intimate night out with your special someone.

I keep using up the little sample i got from luckyscent. Gosh does this smell so addicting. Its sour, citrusy, and soapy smelling. This is reminiscent of brut because it opens up with a blast of clean citrusy musk smell. I will get this soon.

I really like it, it reminds me of my one and only semester at a public middle school. It also kinda smells like cucumber and mint body wash. For some reason, whenever I smell it, it makes my nose run and hurts the back of my throat. :(

Got a small sample from lucky scent. Based off the smell; the yuzu, aldehyde, and musk really reminds me of brut. Not saying it's masculine but it just reminds me of that.

my friend describes this as walking down a driveway catching a whiff of clothes dryer exhaust leaking from a house, airy fizzy and clean.

Wow! Another Prin hit for me. I find his scents either work or don’t for me. This one is quirky and not for everyone however I’m sure it will offend no one at worst. Bright Yuzu Soda pop - indeed - as if you’ve just opened an effervescent can of yuzu. Super super Bright citric opening softens and behind it a backbone of sweet natural pear (William Bartlett - ripe and juicy sweet to me - not a Nashi pear) turns over 10 minutes a bit and a metallic top note accentuates the high end and a slightly boozy Liquer bottom end developes like when the pear is slightly soft and over ripe. Somewhere in the middle maybe to me it feels like some grapefruit flesh is in there - super super tart yellow fruit flesh in the middle. A bright and refreshing scent like you just showered - gives a slightly synthetic presence reminding me occasionally of a few things like Johnson and Johnson Baby shampoo or a shirt ironed after been sprayed with Preen. Whilst quirky I think this is possibly another smash hit after Salted Green Mango, left field but well done enough to win over traditionalist fans whom never would have thought they’d fall for something so weird. I actually can see myself wearing this even professionally. Awesome for a change. I think this is an as advertised product to a tee...

Yuzu soda—So pleasant. So hopeful and youthful. I enjoy it. Probably wouldn’t buy but respect the uniqueness and might buy another sample in the future. It comes off as very simple even though it has a ton of ingredients. Interesting that it has 3 ingredients that are often troublesome for me—aldehydes, mint and magnolia. But somehow it really works and I find nothing offensive. I get the comments about cleaning products but I don’t go there as I’m wearing it. I think this is super appropriate for some situations, just not others. Not date night nor for a power meeting. But for sports and gym, yes! Working outdoors yes! When you want energy. Actually that’s the overarching theme for me—this is energy in a bottle. For comparison it reminds me of The Orange Tree by 4160 Tuesdays.

Surprised that it is not as sparkling and effervescent as the name and use of aldehydes led me to believe. Not a sharp fizzy citrus but rather soft rounded and clean. Reminded me of a nice hand soap. Only have a 1 ml vial, but got a good 6 hours of performance. Nose to wrist I can still smell it after 11 hours. The second half of that is a clean white musk, like fresh laundry. Given the size and price I was very interested but, without smelling the same, it’s close enough to Aqua Universalis Forte, which I already own, to not need both. I like the main note so I’ll be searching for the ideal yuzu fragrance to add to my collection. 7.9/10

There's a soapy quality to this that reminds me of my dad. Funny, how scents evoke such specific memories in us. This is technically a unisex scent, but because of that soapy note, it leans towards a comforting masculine to me. Most certainly wearable for anyone, but it sends me to my childhood: my dad, freshly showered before an event, the bathroom still smelling like his soap and cologne. I like laying this with a creamy coconut to balance it out and bring a more "office in paradise" vibe to it.

A soapy fresh wind is carried in by a cloud of fizzy aldehydes. What makes this perfume rise to a level above all that though are the bitter top notes and delicious almost salty citrus heart. I for one love a bitter cocktail in summer (aperol spritz comes to mind) and this is the fragrance equivalent of that. Very refreshing and perfect for hot weather. Lasts a good 6-7 hours on skin. Has a musk and woody vetiver dry down that is truly appealing .

This is exactly what it says it is, a sparkling yuzu! The main combination is yuzu and aldehydes, and the yuzu is supported by other citruses such as petitgrain and the aldehydes are possibly supported by clean musks. There seems to be other herbs in the fragrance as well to give it a herbal freshness. The fragrance has a fun and young approach and works wonderfully in hot weather. Unisex and quite long lasting.

Blind buy worthy. Smells so clean and citrusy, I was concerned that the aldehydes would give it a vintage soapy dry down but just like the name suggests it smells just like yuzu soda. Perfect for spring and summer.

Maybe the most aldehyde-forward perfume I've ever smelled. Like it!

I feel like this could have done without the camphor note; it’s really prominent on initial spray, and we use it in Asia to repel bugs and as a toilet air freshener, so I’m never really a fan when it’s in perfume. I actually do like the aldehydes here, but I would have liked for there to have been less of it. While the scent of the aldehyde note goes well with the citrus and aromatic notes, it’s a bit too bitter and astringent at the beginning. With a name like Yuzu Soda, I wanted more effervescence and less soapiness.

I think it might work better as a roller ball. Maybe I could make this work on the backs of my knees. (Maybe.) Or a single spray on the small of my back. Outside. From dabbing it with the tester vial: a beautiful, delicious, fuzzy laundry citrus. From an actual atomizer: I get a massive migraine EVERY SINGLE TIME. I even do like the scent, but, it chokes me out, it's definitely not a WFH fragrance and maybe not even an indoor fragrance. If you're looking for a beast mode, you've got it right here...

Initial scent is a sharp fizzy top citrus note with a strong green heart, and rosemary, basil and petitgrain coming through. It is reminiscent of lemonade or a citrus-based drink with a green garnish. It is initially astringent to the nose - others have compared this to the sharp green and citrus smells of cleaning agents. I for one cannot un-smell that now. I would absolutely go for a sample first if you are looking for a yuzu-based fragrance. I'll pass on this one.

Blast of lemon zest and neroli flowers. Cold be perfect eye opener for mornings. But after 20 minutes turns into common man’s aftershave scent that is really disappointing for me. Probably it’s because of rosemary that sounds very natural and persistent in base notes. I wish first notes and citrus vibe last longer.

Citrus and a buttload of aldehydes. Does, in fact, smell like a yuzu soda, if it was made with extremely bitter tonic water. Sparkling fresh yet astringent, with an orange-tinted yuzu and some green herbal notes lurking beneath that peek through as it dries down. Moderate projection for 2-3hr, longevity 8-10hr.

An interesting laundry scent, giving the yuzu, on the edge to bathroom cleaners. I’ll give it a try one more time since I generally like washing powder theme.

There are many interesting notes in this perfume but unfortunately, I smell only fanta soda here.

Testing blind this came off a bit like a Sauvignon Blanc (the floral type) in the opening, with a bit of tartness. Afterwards it's light, floral, but has an acidic and brisk undertone, making it cut through the air well. However, as the day goes on things get a little too soapy. At times I get watery Pine Sol at a distance or clean white soap up close. So, if you want that just showered feeling, it's there. For me soapy fragrances feel absolutely unnecessary. I wish it stayed in its more sharp and bitter opening, when it was more intriguing. Looking at the name and notes now, I'm a little surprised. Outside the initial opening I'm pretty much getting aldehydes (soap) and camphor with bits of herbs and woods in the background. While there may be a brief hello at the beginning from the yuzu, mint, and others, I don't really experience any cream soda, nashi pear, pineapple, or seaweed at all. Even as a soapy fragrance this leans just a hint feminine at times, and isn't aromatically neutral enough to feel unisex, but we're splitting (shampooed) hairs here. It also dissipated mid-day, making this a quick shower. Quite a bit shorter than my experience with other soapy fragrances. Between the name and notes, this feels more like a cold shower.

Are those... Bougie sanitizing wipes?! I can see why this perfume has a lower rating compared to Prin's other work. 75% of the time this smells like detergent cleaning wipes! The musks+aldehydes have this weird dirty moss-note, the mint+rosemary+petitgrain+basil give it a soapy note and the yuzu feels like some cheap citrus note. In the other 25% though I really do pick up a yuzu soda though. It's a light bubbly thing with the yuzu staying true to itself. This smells more like DIET yuzu soda though lol. It's more bitter than it is sweet and it's not packed with a lot of flavor. No what I expect from a perfume ending with "soda" (Unless soda here means carbonated water?). The expectation I got from reading the title set me up for disappointment. If you're considering this for the Yuzu, I'd try Natsumeku instead (also by Prin!). On the whole this feels misguided. A no go for me.

Yet another disappointment from strangers parfumerie which continue to roll out incredibly interesting ideas that sound just like the kind of thing I want to wear but fall flat on their face. Overwhelming smell of generic white bar soap. There is an incredibly mild smell of citrus, but even then I don’t think I would smell it if it wasn’t called yuzu soda. I don’t hate it, I’m just incredibly frustrated that this incredibly appealing title does not in any way reflect the actual fragrance.

Yuzu is one of my favorite smells so I was excited to try this. Unfortunately, it smells overwhelmingly like a bar of soap, with a mild citrus note. "Soda" in the name led me to expect something sweeter and more fizzy. A dislike for me.

I was really hoping this was going to be sparkly, citrusy, and fantastic, and instead all I got was stale, musty citrus. This one made me sad :(

I bblind bought this from a youtuber recommendation. I've been going back on fourth on this for a few months. I've decided that I really dislike it. I agree with others who say it reminds them of strong cleaning solutions. It stays in my nostrils long after a sniff, and it BURNS. I'll admit this does live up to the yuzu soda name, as it's extremely effervescent and sparkly. This just needs to be toned down a lot. I think this would be bearable as a edc maybe a edt. This Is a scrubber for sure

There are so many lovely things going on in Yuzu Soda that it should appeal to many wearers. Aromatics, citrus, aldehydes....I think it even dances close to aquatic so folks who like that type of fragrance should also enjoy it. There's a fleeting creamy sweetness that pops in and out. It's bright, comforting, uplifting, and thoroughly enjoyable. I don't find it ground-breaking but it's not banal either. Well-blended and totally wearable, so a safe blind buy. If I had to peg a suitable season for it, spring and summer, but it could also be well-suited for a sunny and mild winter day, and as an occasional contrast to the heavier, spicier scents of fall and winter. I fear it may not develop properly on the coldest winter days tho. A surprising thing for me - I would call this thoroughly unisex and it is probably the first that I will definitely wear. Thus far all fragrances labeled unisex I've sampled have seemed too masculine for my taste. Not so with Yuzu Soda, and without coming off as a solidly feminine fragrance. Kudos for finding the sweet spot!

I was hoping for a yuzu flavored CdG Soda. I got fresh soapy grandpa after a nice shave. Revisited this months later: Man, I’m really still getting “grandpa” here, but at least I can kind of enjoy it. The problem with this is the name. I get absolutely no yuzu and these are all the wrong aldehydes to evoke “soda.” However, this is actually kind of nice for what it is: an old school aldehyde, mint, and smoky vetiver. Very masculine. Reminds me of Open by Roger & Gallet. A couple years later: What’s in a name? Much like CdG’s “Girl,” this is bound to fail because of the name. If this were called “Sunday Soap” or “Tin Cup Shave” it would find its fans of old fashioned aldehydics. This is probably what 1950s shaving soap smelled like. It’s just unfortunate that anyone looking for Yuzu Soda is probably the exact opposite of someone that wants to smell like a retro masculine bar of soap. I still enjoy it now and then, though.

Very very birght Yuzu composition that goes directly into soap territory, giving this sparkle and an effervescent feeling, is accompanied with a good dose of Basel, Orange and Mint, those comes out after just 10 minutes stabilizing the scent it a light green color, the bright composition sits down into an orris and veviter base, perfect for lovers of Yuzu and clean fragrances. It gives you a feeling of ultra cleannes, is way too bright for me and goes too much into a soap scent, but i am sure will find home into a collection of soapy lemon lovers. Is elegant, and perfect after shower in summer. I get the disappointement of many here, but this was created specifically to give you a clean lemonish green feeling of a immaginary Yuzu soda soap.

I get major cleaning agent vibes from this one, but there’s something else there that I enjoy. Although, I think people will comment on the cleaning agent vibe from this one rather than that enjoyable aspect of it. It’s going to be a pass for me.

Based on this notes, this should have worked really well for me. All I get is soap in a bitter medicinal way. No citrus whatsoever and it’s very strong. Bummer for this scent but does make me intrigued to try others from the brand.

Foaming, sparkling soapy citrus froth. Pour laundry detergent and yuzu soda into a washing machine and out bursts this scent. Ultra clean without being sharp. Cheerful and fresh. Tickles the nose a bit. Give it a try!

Opening is nice and bright. I feel some yuzu pop. In the drydown I get a similar experience to salted green mango, but less intense.

Reminds me of a cross between El Cosmico and Steamed Rainbow.
