Al Hareem

This is a wow! from me. Animalic but smooth oud dominance but with traces of roses and opulent musk. The oud character itself carries the whole thing starting with a mild cambodian cheese or real civet smell opening instantly diffusing into dark woody resinous tones. Al Hareem is mainly oud to my nose but the rose does develop as it dries down, never quite going what you'd call 'sweet' though. As someone who has a few oud attars this is familiar, powerful but no where near the most animalic or potent oud you will smell. This is clearly of great quality (not sure if all Pasha's oud comes from Ensar?) and when you are in the mood for it, just perfection. Superb.

This is just so comforting. And it has so many facets that you want to just stop each minute and pick up what’s going on in your nose. An AMAZING fragrance and I can’t really say it as well as some of the reviewers here. Another Sultan Pasha masterpiece that outshines virtually 99.9% of the fragrances out there today. You can get fine attars with great ingredients, from say Rising Phoenix or Mellifluence, and I do. But Sultan Pasha blends them, mostly naturals, in a way that is unique and exquisite and like nobody else on earth today.

Best animalic rose I've smelled. Sensual without being dirty, enveloping, warm and cozy. And as always with Sultan Pasha attars, the ingredients used are top quality and you really can smell it. This is the real thing. Longevity is great and sillage just as it should be

A very beautiful, soft rose-oud with a distinctive butter absolute. The oud here is Hindi, so while it does have that classical animality, the rose and butter cushion it into an exhalation of delicate musk. One of Sultan Pasha's best!

The smell is similar to the spirit of dubai "Haibah" or Henry Jacques "Oud Suprem"(15ml-3000GBP), but this one has much more animal notes inside, and less cheese creamy taste. I guess this one is popular in middle-east.

A mysterious yet calming scent. The great richness and complexities of the butter, saffron, tobacco and florals are grounded by the beautiful oud, and illuminated from within by the sparkling ambergris.

This one is nice, almost full bottle worthy but not quite for me. Its really quite similar to rasasi rose oud fragrance. A really well done rose oud but it does have a waxy almost crayon like scent and its quite off putting. Also the price is ridiculous for what it is £300 for 3ml and i know he uses high quality ingredients but I personally would pick a niche rose oud fragrance over this everyday for a third of the price and you get 100ml. Performance was good lasted 8 hours on me but again almost no sillage.

I have been working through many of the Sultan Pasha attars lately, trying one each day and giving much thought to each variety. There is no doubt: this is one creator whose talent and good nature are making a name for him that will profit all who enjoy perfume, not to mention the man himself. It has been a very eye-opening experience, since I wouldn't say I have very much experience with attars. Unfortunately, this particular release, Al Hareem, did not satiate me. Actually, it left me a bit terrified. It is so, so animalic, I find it to be most reminiscent of a horror film. I am reminded of nightmarish scenes of gore, really and truly something that frightens me. I understand there is a wide audience for this effect. But my own prejudices steer me ever onward in a direction of sweetness, greenness, lightness, and softness. Everyone knows the taste you get in your mouth when biting through a Tylenol pill: it is bitter in the extreme. I would say this is the olfactory equivalent of that. I am not capable of determining if this is good or bad. It was not made for me. If you enjoy this sort of animalic experience (I myself occasionally have a big weakness for the white florals, lilies especially, and their indolic fecality), then I am sure this is one of its highest quality manifestations.

Sultan Pasha's attars have always struck me as incredibly complex, and Al Hareem is no deviation from that character - Al Hareem is bold, brash, animalic, sensual, dark, sharp, mysterious as hell, and regal at every level. Al Hareem opens to me with a huge whiff of oud, saffron, rose, and a dirty dark musk - the interesting thing that makes it a lot more complicated than it might sound is the shapeshifting effect that the oud, rose and musk all share - they don't stay still in any way, shape, or form - the oud smells as if it's constantly jumping back and forth between fruity and dry - animalic and sweet - hay and honey - cumin and nutmeg - chocolate and plummy -gingery and tea-like: honestly the oud as it stands would be enough to be a earth shatteringly good fragrance unto itself, and yet it is paired with a rose of equal caliber. The rose is constantly appearing earthy as hell, and fading into a soft sweet ethereal form - it feels dry and yet thickly ambered the rose itself keeps from exemplifying any stereotypical traits that many folks associate with it in a lot of modern perfumery: it's not jammy and it doesn't feel juicy to me - it feels mythical, and it feels as though it is inseparable from the oud - all the while the heavenly pair are bound through a slightly sour, smooth, herbal effect which comes from the gorgeous saffron loaded in between the two. All while this is happening there is a mysterious and sensual musk that smells to me like a deer musk I once tried from one of the very limited encounters I've had with ASAQ, only here it smells much more lush, natural, and sensual and to me calls out in a way that makes me notice it much more than I would've imagined - and much more than I think actually takes up elements of the composition itself, but due to how unique and downright natural it smells to me, the oud, the rose, the saffron, the woody, creamy, resinous basenotes habitually sing its praises from about the 2 hour mark on. Even more interestingly enough, Al Hareem is an oud/rose combo that makes one immediately understand what it is about the combination that makes different markets attempt to bring its glory under their own name. It's sharp and floral, it's dark and animallic, it's musky and spicy, and yet it retains this almost edible quality, while never losing that classic perfume character (seeing as it is one of the formative blends that calls to mind the very essence of fragrance in the oriental psyche.) This isn't to say that one doesn't notice the rest of the majesty going on - you most certainly will - but I really must say it is the most beautiful thing - the musk carries on about its business and stops along the way to seduce each and every note taking up this comfy shack in the middle of nowhere underneath the moon - it seduces the rose and creates this heavy, musky, dark rose whose sweetness flows from it and generates a downright sexual scent - which leads into the musked oud, which really becomes this fruity, funky delight which will send your eyes rolling into the back of your head, as the oud was complex enough, but the musk alongside it simply sends your senses on a rollercoaster ride through the ambered desert outside as the smells from the woods and spices in the base rise up along the way - an incredibly creamy sandalwood, a slightly salty, slighty sweet ambergris, a smoky tobacco, all the while the hyrax keeps the deer musk from falling into the sweeter side of animalics, and right on track as the sensual effect pulling each note in closer to you. As it dries down it turns to a woody, fruity, ambered sweetness with only hints of the oud, rose and saffron to remain - as if you've been fully ravaged by the musk it lingers on the skin in only faint memories - as if a very light leather sweetened by fruits - or a softly sweetened sweat. I continue to go through the complete sample set from Sultan Pasha, and my challenge remains that I tried Sacred Scarab (from Zoologist), Fougère Noire, and Juriah Privé first, and now I compare everything to those three A+s. I wanted this one to be an animalic-rose-oud bomb but instead it's a layered and complex rose-oud scent, memorable but not as transporting as Juriah Privé. It seems the Sultan Pasha line emphasizes depth and wearability, whereas I tend to lean towards fragrances that are a bit of a statement. The three above that I listed as A+s definitely are. The saffron in this one perks it up (reminding me very dimly of the saffron in Hermes's Eau de Neroli d'Oré, where it played a similar hmmm-huh-what role). Overall, it lands solidly in a "I feel confident wearing this" zone vs. "this is so wonderful I have to keep smelling my wrist." I'll revise this review if it changes a lot over time. Right now, I've been wearing it only about 45 minutes. A challenge for me too is that several Sultan Pasha fragrances like this one feature tobacco, which I'm open to in theory, but in practice have never fully enjoyed. So many more fragrances in the line to try though... -- REVISED VERSION: This one was so subtle after a few hours that I went ahead and re-applied it. For some reason, it needed about 3x the liquid that a typical Sultan Pasha attar needs (a micron) to get the full effect. Now the hyrax and oud are coming through more strongly, and I like it a lot more.

Two very different experiences on each wearing. First experience of this scent was mind blowing, I got this heavy animalic musky, leathery hyrax, with a touch of funky Hindi Oud. It was a daring and challenging scent, but it blew me away and I absolutely loved it. Second wearing was more of classic rose Oud, very bright and floral sweet rose, with a gentle funky Hindi Oud base. On subsequent wearings I got that animalic musky leather in the opening, but it eased as the scent developed in the heart, due to this sweet floral rose. Now the rose in this is very floral, its sweet but not due to gourmand notes such as vanilla, it's not a jammy rose. As the scent dries down there's a touch of the Hindi Oud, which gives a faint woody touch and aids the funkiness present in the scent. It's to me in the dry down this incredibly sexy animalic musky and subtle leathery scent, it has this sweaty human skin feel, with a touch of smooth and sweet rose. Glorious, complex and undoubtedly high quality, the rose especially feels incredible natural. Projection is moderate on this scent, pretty strong for the first hour, but then becomes more moderate. Longevity on my skin was around 6-8 hours. Overall rating for this one is 5/5, I love animalic scents, and this one was one of the best I've come across so far! Very similar to Montale "Oudh cuir Arabie" I should say : identical. Lovely strong tobacco oudh leather masculine macho fragrance. Rather John Wayne or,Lawrence of Arabia. Not for George Michael and Mark Almond Don't agree with you below guys there is rose. Can't really smell it.There may be rose, but fragrance is not about rose at all.. Predominant is : oudh, tobacco leather.

OMG this is stunningly beautiful. Heartbreakingly unavailable. This is NOTHING revolutionary or groundbreaking -- this combo of ingredients has been done many times before, and I've smelt a few of these already, but this one right here is AMAZING. Animalic rose-oud with saffron, ambergris and sandalwood to round it out. Utterly stunning. No other words...

A warm and refined blend of rose, oud and spices. Very comforting. If you value quality experiences, you will find pleasure in this. Simple and elegant.

Start with a bitter, animalic, godible oud and a genuine sweet rose. Ends in a creamy oud and spicy rose. For my nose: boredom.
