Étude en Fougère

This feels quite similar to the last fougere but with crucial differences being the warmth is instantly there, and there seems to be slightly less complexity to this. More of a detectable nutmeg note and the usual bergamot, lemon, and elemi, toned down pine and moss, but a little more, classicly men's fougere about this, drying down to a not so hypergreen fragrance but more of a leathery, aftershave full of eighties vibe and perhaps more moss chiming as it settles down. It's nice.

On the opening you have fresh green forest pine with a hint of nutmeg and earthiness. This is followed up with elemi resin, this smells like a combination of lemon, pine and light honey. It gives the scent a uplifting playfulness and it smells really good. Over many hours the scent develops with hints of lavender, geranium and even jasmine in the late drydown. A very beautiful fougere fragrance with top quality natural ingredients.

'A study in ferns.' Sultan Pasha recently released two fougeres: Etude en Fougere and Fougere Noir. This is the brighter, greener, more bitter Fougere of the two. I found it to be a slow-grower compared to the immensely likable, sweet, spicy and dark version: Fougere Noir. But it's also bracing and fresh. It's a shock to the system on application and it grows sweeter as time passes. This study feels like the traditional reconstruction of the perfect Fougere, whereas FN is the masterpiece. But, I have to note: How nice is it to smell the classical Fougere, the way it was meant to be, with great ingredients, no restrictions and an artistic twist on the fundamentals? Even in his studies, Sultan is always teaching.

Definitely 100% a Fougere. A lovely Fougere. Green, sweet, warm, fresh, citric, lavender-redolent, shaving-creamy-in-the-base, classic Fougere. Note: must like Fougeres. Seem redundant? Read the review below. (Fougere is in the name, in case there’s any confusion about what you get with this one.)

Very green and fresh this one i get no woody or spicy notes from this. Its almost like a cheap air freshener scent very off putting. Glad this one didn’t last long as I didn’t like it. Performance was the worst yet out of the sample pack, lasted two hours on my skin before fading hard and no sillage.

Too sour, too bitter, too sharp, too old. And too much sooner or later cripples. Besides, I don't like fougerie in general and I tolerate lavender only in low doses. This further discourages me. The drydown is an acceptable aftershave. Sorry.

I'm not usually a fan of fougeres. Truth be told, anything officially sanctioned, deified and modelled as a cliche or trope in any field of aesthetic expression, well, I really REALLY don't go for. And this is no different. This is unapologetically a fougere, and I'm not a fan of it AT ALL. It's like listening to a rock song and just knowing "oh crap, the bridge is coming, and here's the breakdown where the guitar goes quiet", etc, and I'm just not a fan of it in ANY thing. But this is a really well-done fougere. I still don't like it, but it's done REALLY well.

Agree with the other reviewers that this is a quintessential Fougère and very, pleasant and accomplished... but Fougère Noire is the masterpiece. The most notable notes differences (from the ones listed). FN has pretty much all the same scents as this one, plus: - Clary Sage - Seaweed - Coffee - Mushroom - Balsam Fir - Damask Rose - Bourbon Vetiver - Civet - Castoreum - Ambergris That's quite a lot of depth and funk. Étude en Fougère smells like something out of a barbershop, Fougère Noire smells like something out of the forest.

very pleasant bright fresh opening with citrusy and spicy lavender, a bit soapy, bit sour, with some pleasant herbals underneath. I get a lot of pine, too. it has a very cologne-like feel, and also something reminiscent of an aftershave.. I suppose this would be more suitable for a man.

Is it me, or is this not just the most perfect green scent ("Fougère" indeed!)?
