Tabac Grande

Sultan Pasha Tabac Grande. I love this attar. It ranks among his more popular compositions, and once you smell it, you quickly realize why. I'd say, it's a no-brainer if you are a fan of tobacco perfumes. It plays on the boozy and moist tobacco qualities, to my nose, supported by a good dose of castoreum, resins, and slightly fruity and chocolaty touches. The cognac accord opens the way. Even for me, who doesn't care for these facets, it is so satisfying. It has a nice fruity undertone, something like cherry or plum liquor, and I believe the tonka bean helps a lot with that. I also get a chocolaty quality in it, although not listed. It might be the interplay of coffee and resins. The former is not as strong as in his Cafe Ambre Noir, only slightly there as a supporting note, hence, I could very well perceive it chocolatier than it wants to be. To this boozy, fruity, and liqueur-like opening, the tobacco joins in, quite raw and full-flavored, as well as a big dose of castoreum. The latter feels chewy, leathery, and smoky, pairing with the tobacco perfectly. I don't necessarily pick up the herbaceous notes listed, nevermind the flowers. This is a dark, sweet, and syrupy attar. In the base, the resins become more assertive. I get Sultan's signature base accord with the benzoin while the castoreum clings to the composition till the end becoming slightly dirtier as the oil dries down. It is a superbly blended composition, like all his creations, smoothly transitioning between stages. Overall, it reminds me of blends like Tobacco Oud Intense, and Jeke (the original version), both of which play on that boozy-fruity tobacco accord drenched in resins. It is more polished than the Slumberhouse, and less smoky and refined than the Tom Ford, yet more natural smelling. If you love tobacco perfumes, boozy accords, and thick resinous blends, I highly encourage a sample. I don't talk about performance as it doesn't matter to me much, but for those curious, it is nuclear and you only need a tiny dot to fill the room. This is off the charts! Absolutely, stratospheric! Life-changingly good! I mean...holy moly! I have used tobacco absolute materials of varying origins and they are all pretty fantastic. However, as surprisingly thick and potent as they appear, they can bit tricky to use and fight for pride of place in a composition. Anyone who thinks it's easy or linear to present tobacco in this way is naive to say the least. The opening for me is like the blend of classic perfumes in that you get a realistic honey note and animalics in the background humming away. Then the tobacco builds and what a fine tobacco material he's using, deeply, deeply faceted you can just fall into it and be enveloped by the dark, seductive goop. Now I smoke cigars and have been known to have a pipe now and again and I can honestly say this tobacco although incredibly authentic, doesn't evoke the saccharine sweet tobacco that I usually go for. Nor does it have the manure or peppery edge of a fine Habana cigar and this shouldn't surprise anyone but it doesn't smell of the smoke of tobacco, but instead the beautiful sensation of sticking your head right into one of those tubs of pipe tobacco they have in the tobacconists. This is a particularly mellow tobacco and probably not one I would choose to smoke, as I mentioned I prefer the almost too sweet smelling stuff because it remains sweet in the smoking, which I like. Something like this would smell DIVINE raw but that's not why I buy tobacco to sit around admiring and not smoking it. It does have a hay like quality (maybe some hay absolute) but likely just from the tobacco, bitter coffee nuance, animalics, natural sweetness, woodiness, booze, it's a complete treat and takes me right back to being a kid and buying tobacco (perhaps when I shouldn't have been?) from Henry Monks which also sold shotguns! This is a revelation and the attar is very thick and very dark and would likely stain your clothes badly but in all likelihood you could spill this and it would take about 3 years to migrate out of the bottle, if it even moved at all?

Imagine if you will that you are staying at a hotel in Casablanca and the manager has invited you to the Cigar Lounge. On entering the first thing that you see is how rich and decadent the furnishings are. We are talking about dark leather bound chairs, mahogany tables with the walls fitted with dark wooden alcoves. To your left there is a old piano with someone playing a Jazz tune and straight ahead is the bar with a man dressed in a tuxedo serving a customer a whisky drink. You take a sniff of the air and it's filled with cigar smoke and alcohol from the nights festivities. As you take your seat in one of the leather bound chairs the manager signals to a waiter who brings you a leather bound pouch. As he places this in front of you he mentions this is the finest pipe tobacco laced with a vintage special reserve cognac that is kept in the walk in humidor for when the mayor visits. You take your Sherlock Holmes pipe out of your pocket in anticipation and then proceed to open the pouch of the finest pipe tobacco. You close your eyes and inhale deeply, the smell of rich aromatic tobacco laced with a fine smelling alcoholic Cognac greets your senses. It's warm and spicy with a slight sweet muskiness coming from the cognac. This smells fantastic as it is blended so no one note overwhelms the other. You take another sniff and you notice a dry woodiness that smells like cedar giving the scent that dry warmth. This is what I get when I smell this scent, rich tobacco with a beautiful alcoholic Cognac that has a slight sweetness to it. It's aromatic and at the start it almost has a lacquer quality to it with what smells like dark molasses. But I think it's the dark resin with a touch of immortelle which is the signature Sultan Pasha accord that is in a lot of his scents. The projection is soft and the longevity is good, I've had it on my skin for about six hours and it's still there. So all in all a very rich, decadent smelling aromatic pipe tobacco of the finest quality.

For those who are looking a tobacco beast that will outlast and out shine virtually almost any tobacco fragrance I have ever tried. (I own or have tried over 30 fragrances which list tobacco as one of its most important notes.) For those unfamiliar with Sultan Pasha Attars, each of them attempt to provide a genuinte attar experience. To wear one of these fragrances a drop or two will be more than enough. Th longevity will still be over12 hours and the silage will be strong or very strong. One important note, this fragrance will stain clothing so be careful when applying a drop and give it some time to sink in to the skin. The overall effect of this fragrance is simply stunning. Nothing comes close. If you think I am exaggerating please read some of the other reviews. As one writer puts it this is the Everest of tobacco scents. Is it expensive? Well, it is not cheap, but as I say a drop of two is all one needs to enjoy hours and hours of being developed in a classy regal fragrance. It is perfect for cold weather. It is masculine and should be worn mostly in. the evening. I feel blessed to won this one.

To those unfamiliar with Sultan Pasha Attars, you should, at least once in your life, purchase one of his many masterpieces. The DNA of his scents is present in the several I have obtained over the years. This one is my current favorite of his. Those who think this might smell like some of the usual suspect tobacco scents (TF, Josier, Byredo etc) just be prepared to have the opening of this one shatter what you thought a superior tobacco fragrance could or should be. It only takes a drop or two and this will not only starts with a bang, it then sticks around for 8 hours-- at least. If you read the reviews below this one, you will see that most of them consider this as the Everest of tobacco scents. The coffee hits me harder than the boozy note at the opening, but the tabac takes center stage for the full three acts. Rather than buying a popular brand may I suggest this one instead. People will ask you about it, and since very few know much about this house you will stand out, and you will find yourself enveloped in a magisterial robe that will make you glad you have this gem.

Chase Tobacco scents all you want... Your entire life... But when you want to step up to the big leagues, with zero compromise, & I do mean ZERO... Here you go, this is "IT". This is "The ONE"... The only tobacco scent that beats this is Sultan Pasha's own Tabacaurum. I'm 1,000% serious about that statement. Tabac Grande is "IT"... Unless you want to drop 3x the cash for Tabacaurum... Perhaps the best scent I've ever smelled. And even Tabacaurum is slightly less about tobacco compared to Tabac Grande. If you've never experienced Sultan Pasha Attars, let me assure you... You're missing out, & you're wasting your money on most of your purchases. This is honesty vs. snobbery! Order a sample set! Order a full 3g bottle of Tabac Grande, blind! Do whatever you want! There is no going wrong with Sultan Pasha Attars. You just have to find your personal 15/10 scents. And you will. For tobacco fans, this will be your first.

Blind bought this due to the reviews and being a lover of scents. The hype is real. Is it expensive, certainly. But this will last an extremely long time, you don't need much when dabbing on. This is also the first time I tried an attar that is as thick as syrup - a quality that ensures not much is needed and is VERY long lasting. I won't go into the detail about what I pick-up concerning scent, lots of reviews below provide this feedback. However, I couldn't agree more with ooosmoov and suggest you heed his advice. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth the money if you are a lover/collector of scents? Absolutely. I am definitely going to purchase more from Sultan Pasha. The six weeks wait for it to arrive is worth it... remember, he creates and hand bottles all his scents.

The finest animalic Tobacco fragrance anywhere, period. Raunchy, sweet, sophisticated tobacco—deceptively simple, until you remember that tobacco isn’t one note: it’s an entire symphony, playing a familiar tune. The difference between renditions is in the details. This one is down and dirty, set on a base of ambergris and oud. As far as performance, it’s beastly. I’m not sure what thermonuclear horrors Mr Eleven is judging these Attars against but Tabac Grande fills several rooms for hours and “gets compliments” from at least a yard, if that’s your thing. Seriously though, go easy on application. This one is strong and it hangs on for quite a ride through the deep carnal drydown.

Incredible scent! This one seems to be a very popular scent from Sultan Pasha and I can see why. This tobacco is incredibly comforting, cozy, and regal. As I wear it I get these little pops of boozy fruity sweetness along with a luscious honey note that floats on top of everything. There's wonderful florals as well that help temper some of the slight animalics as well. Everything has its place in this that helps elevate the overall scent, but that tobacco is the star. This is a sparkling gem of a scent, perfect for any sort of upscale event but could probably be worn more casually as well. I can't say enough good about this.

This Tabac Grande is really grande, really big. It has tons of tobacco, and honey and amber which makes it a bit sweet. It has also delicate saffron and a touch of rose. The oud used here is not a beast as in others attars, I would say this is a sweet delicate oud, well blended with the rest of the ingredients. On my skin it lasted more than 12 hours with a tiny amount of it. If you like good tabac scents this is a must to try.

This is such a smooth tobacco scent, it is like the finest pipe tobacco you have ever smelt, it has a sweetness to it as well. it is so well blended that you forget you are wearing a fragrance. there are so many notes for this one but the main ones i get are sweet tobacco with cognac in the background. performance is very good considering the tiny amount i apply to my skin.

This seems like pure amazing tobacco, the experience of pipe tobacco, not ashy, not cigarettes, not ashtrays, but the tobacco you get when you open your dad’s English pipe tobacco and inhale. So wonderful. Nothing can equal that. Except this. And it seems like tobacco but to do that, the genius of Tabac Grande is that Sultan Pasha nailed this experience perfectly. 11/10.

Raw tobacco and hay soaked in coffee, plums, cherries in syrup. Almost tarry with faint flowers in the distance. It's something I've already smelled but this one has a rather dark character from the start with a domineering and animalic sillage. It slowly dries out digging even more fruity sweetness but still with too much alcohol until it turns into an elegant religious smoke with tones of cocoa and black licorice. I love this phase. Genuine ingredients, but the general atmosphere I perceive is a bit serious and dated. Not for me but I highly recommend the tasting!

Boozy tobacco. Tobacco is front and center supported by spices, resins, and toned down animalics. Crowd pleaser that can be used on most occasions in cooler weather.

OMG -- Amazing. Wonderfully boozy tobacco with animalic elements (just the right amount) to fill out the scent. Definitely trying this one again...

This is just straight up tobacco not even a hint of anything else coming through. I really dont like tobacco, i can tolerate it if its mild in the background but just cant wear tobacco dominate scents. If you love tobacco heavy scents then this one is for you. Performance can’t say i had to wash it off after two hours but it did take two washes to remove so this is strong stuff but no sillage only strong when you put your nose to the place you applied the oil to.

Damp, rich, chewy, resinous, animalic, and musky. These are the words I would immediately use if I were to tell somewhat what the biggest and loudest tobacco fragrance I have smelled to date smells like (this fragrance of course is the subject of this set of notes: Tobac Grande.) Hyraceum, cognac, and tobacco start this one off with a bang - at once it is musky, alcoholic, and densely filled to the brim with the richest pipe tobacco you have ever smelled in your life. There is a sweetness that seems to emanate from the cognac, although the tonka is indeed here tucked behind the tobacco as a chewy, sweet, and slightly spicy undertone - there is cade here, which is more often than not used to create a leather tone, but here to me smells more like a semi-sweet woodiness enveloping the very center of the tobacco, and as it grows more and more, you begin to smell the bitter chocolate, and fruity herbal qualities of the osmanthus, which all work together to create a environment for the tobacco, liquor and musk to grow in: it brings to mind those masculine environments where these rich cigars, and dark liquors are smoked and drank, but without the 'burnt' notes at the end of a lit cigar or smoked pipe. The ambergris is here as quite frequent in the SPA attars I have smelled thus far, but the salty qualities are hard to detect - instead it works as a strong sparkling and heavenly quality to the honey which adds layers of warmth and sweetness to the composition overall - this, you could imagine, acts as the dimly lit lights within the room where these gentlemen are hanging out and as such seem as much the 'lens' through which all these notes are seen through, and as such it isn't so much that the tobacco itself seems sweet (although the benzoin and the tonka are indeed huge factors adding to the chewy and somewhat fruity aspects of the tobacco) but that the overall 'tone' of the composition is warm and comfy. You can feel the licorice here (as the tolu balsam occasionally transmogrifies into) as a dark unsweet scandanavian variety. Cedar is in the background with the cade producing somewhat smokey and smooth woody effect that last for a great duration of the fragrance (although occasionally, the total effect pairs with the coffee produces a leather effect similar to that in Arquiste's Nanban, of the dark coffeehouse with deep and rich stained wood, and syrupy resins spilling occasionally onto the leather seats.) There are in fact some notes that come out from hiding (castoreum and heliotrope for sure) every once in a while, but seem to be memories, as if spun by the conversation of these self-same gentlemen. Overall this one is the richest, tastiest, and best 'pure' tobacco fragrance I have ever tried - with that being said, don't expect that this one is a one-trick pony - stare into the room long enough, and the tobacco will fade, and you will see all of the marvelous things adorning the room. 9/10 YT: Jess AndWesH

Super tangy and sour like tamarind opening, its dark, punchy and fruity. Dries down to a sweet tobacco, with a very gentle smoke, and the tangy fruity tamarind from the opening, and just a touch of dark cocoa. It's like smelling the tobacco from a pipe, rather than the tobacco leaf it self. Its a warm comforting spicy tobacco, with sweet tangy fruitiness. Opens up dark and intense, but settles into a gorgeous rich and sweet warm spicy scent. Projection is beast mode for the first couple of hours, with it then settling in the moderate range, very intense and strong up close but gentle from an arms length. Longevity is excellent over 10+. This is a perfect scent for fall and winter, as an evening wear scent, casually, formally and as a night out scent. Overall score of 5/5, one of the best tobacco scents out there, superb! Tabac Grande over the years has become my all time favorite tobacco fragrance. This is truly the pinnacle of tobacco perfumery. It’s easy to wear, it’s full on tobacco, and the Oud/ambergris combo in the heart and basenotes is to die for. Simply put this is a masterpiece. For those wondering about the price it’s not expensive when you think about an Attar being undiluted. It’s pure, raw materials blended without a carrier. An Attar is the equivalent of buying a full perfume bottle so for the price this is actually a steal for the quality of materials used. Not only do you get real tobacco but also real Oud and real ambergris.

I do have to disagree with DR B1414 below, comparing tabac grande with Tom Fords tobacco oud intense is an insult to S. Pasha's masterwork.TOI is nothing less than a perfume full of synthethics and as far below in quality as it gets compared to Tabac G😁😆😁. Tabac Grande is a masterpiece filled with tobaccoleaf and cognac tone. The attar has good longevity and projects very well.
