Violette Noyée

The moment arrived when I finally try a composition Sultan has been working on and I wanted so much to try . It is inspired in a perfume I love above all, a classic of 1906 no more available in extrait form. Of course it in not a copy, It is Sultan's interpretation and I tell you he has achieved this challenge!!! Imagine a base of the best orris butter to create a delicate violet scent, a shy flower called Violette Noyée (Drowned Violet) anyway I love the name and I think it shows the fresh, floral, intimate feeling I get with this scent. I need it forever in my life!

Golden age floral. Absolutely beautiful nostalgic floral with heliotropin and a sweet amber base. Vintage L'HeureBleue reference? Or is this what Apres L'Onde used to be like?

Perfumistas know that the objects of our olfactory obsession can directly affect our emotions. It wasn't until I tried this fragrance that I found out how strong that effect could be. I tried the sample and wept. Truly. When I was girl it was customary for women to have a hope chest. It was a large blanket chest usually cedar-lined and with a lock. It sat at the foot of the woman's bed so she could also use it as a seat when getting dressed. Over the years of her life, mementos and other cherished items went into that chest. When she passed away, the contents of the chest were at least part of her childrens' inheritance. I put a drop of this elixir on each wrist and started reading my book. Soon I had put it down and was lost in remembering the smells from my relatives' hope chests. Pressed corsages with the petals falling to dust. A silk dress carefully wrapped in tissue paper, probably her wedding dress. Musty dusty smell of newsprint aged to the color of tobacco. The tiny blue glass bottle of "Evening in Paris" that her children bought her from the dime store. Pictures... dozens of black and white or sepia images, all curling and crumbling at the edges. I found myself weeping slow small tears at first for all the good women I have known whose lives were distilled in the smell of their cherished boxes. For the chances missed, for the wonderful times remembered. In my mind excavating the treasures, a loving archaeologist of warmth and not a little melancholy. And I am an old woman now. I too have a hope chest. That's when the tears flooded my face. Weeping softly with sadness and loneliness, but more for happiness of a life fully lived with lots of laughter that rose into the air like bubbles. This is an old lady's scent in all the best ways. Wrapped in tissue with exquisite care, guess where my tiny sample of this lovely and deeply affecting fragrance now lies, waiting to move someone else to tears at exactly the right time.

I had a large sample of this kindly sent by Sultan Pasha but it wasn't labelled. So I tried it but had no preconceptions of what it was. I fell in love with it!! Totally!! It could have been made for me it's so perfect. It opens with an array of florals but an element of green, sharp but not overly so. It has a layer of almonds and faint spice but BEHIND all that is a beautiful stunning layer I could not fathom. I thought it was Iris but wasn;t sure and then when I found out what it was I realised that it was Orris. Sultan uses the best quality Orris/Iris palladia butter. Oh my! Wonderful!! I've tried many SPA's and they are all amazing but some not for me, but THIS is MINE! Thank you for creating this Sultan and as Silfra says I need it forever in my life.

Class act. Bringing violets into the attar world. Sultan is full of talent and this work on soapy florals is nothing short of a classic hit. Starts sharp soapy, dense and greenish....wow. Then soon turns into a soft powdery gorgeousness of umfamiliar smells. Subtle and seductive. Very impressive. The women will adore it.

Violets... i must have it.. on my way to purchase it... I will let you know.
