Layali CPO

When I read the notes for this I was thinking what will an Arabic take on a fruity scent be? It's pretty much what I expected in some respects but I'm also glad there's not a hint of rose or oud or the usual stuff that despite not being listed, can loom large. The opening is a turbo charged explosion of fruits, mainly plum, dark berries and blackcurrant but some exotic smell too, perhaps coming from the ylang ylang and jasmine. Layali is a upbeat and uplifting scent which instantly reminded me of my childhood and specifically a leisure centre where I used to do martial arts. It wasn't the sweat, rubber mats and chlorine though but maybe some sweets I had in the foyer or the slush puppy machines and canteen area...I don't actually know? but it's always fascinating when fragrance can transport you back to a time you'd buried deep in your subconscious. Anyway...the thing which makes this fragrance is the olfactory nosedive it takes as it settles down, very clever and totally needed to counteract the heady nature of the oriental flowers and strong fruity notes. The element I'm talking about is cumin or a curry spice note which just pokes it's head out, deep into the composition and frankly without it this scent would be nice but nothing to get excited about. It's the same way a fecal or animal note adds to a perfume just giving some shade to all that brightness. Hugely strong to begin with but I actually found it not too strong in the end and performance was good. Layali put me slightly in mind of Enchanted forest and Byredo Pulp due to the blackcurrant and plum notes respectively. Very good stuff though and a excellent flacon, an interesting blind buy that I thankfully don't regret because to me it's not a perfume taking itself too seriously. Layali is a bit of fun.

Layali is the dusk of a tumultuous, beautiful day you'd want to hold the most. But no one can stop time, or the beauty of a day. Its unspeakable bliss shapes the slow glide to the twilight . A little melancholy feeling that evening accompanied with a prelude to farewell, slightly aldehydic, a drop of dimness from citrusy and tangy notes. A green ray lies down like a veil on the horizon, and brings nocturnal gardens and flowers bloom. Iris , lily of the valley, roses exude a heady scent before they close their petals for the night . A deep, distant trembling sky is spreading its wings and Venus has risen, and now is awake and high, gazing upon East. As the languid base floats, enhanced by soft notes of amber and musk and soft wood puffs , you will probably be tempted to go to the balcony of an old house, leaning for a while and listening to distant sounds . A tomcat scurries in the dark, only his eyes light up . Basswoods sprinkle their blond party popper in a thick, crumbling carpet where heels sink. Finally you reach a dimmed sofa bed a second before the louring breath of basswoods goes definitively to your head.

fermenting plum, black currant, ylang, neroli, jasmine, oud and ambergris that really come across as a patchouli, cooling mint feeling on skin, no rose because if it was present it would make this jammy, but it's not; very interesting, unique and lovely bottle

Very nice perfume oil reach perfume by Swiss Arabian. Black carnt oring bloom . Jasmin and ylang ylang . And wood

To start of I'll admit that I did buy this mainly for its ultra retro bottle. It really looks like something from the 1920s or maybe even late 19th century even. As for the scent, for me it's mainly sweet plum on a bed of soft roses. It's not sweet or strong enough to really smell like jam. Not very multifaceted, but definitely clean, soft, sweet and soothing. To me it's clearly on the feminine side. Sillage and performance completely depend on temperature with this. Applied inside in the AC it's more of a skin scent on me. If I apply it in the morning and go out into the roaring Mumbai heat it intensifies for an hour or so but then kind of vanishes. However, if I apply it before going out on a 'cooler' Mumbai evening of 25° Celsius (or 77 Fahrenheit) it really performs best, projecting nicely around me and lasting till the end of the night. Generally I found attars perform a bit better if allowed to heat up a bit, but for a soft scent like this too much heat seems to make it fade very fast. I quite like this scent and sometimes really crave it. But I must admit that I wouldn't necessarily repurchase it if it came in any other bottle.

Layali has an inexplicable cardomom/coumarin note. It also reminds me a little bit of Fabuloso cleaning product which I actually like about it, lol. However, it dries down to a musty funeral scent. Glad I tried it at Tjmaxx and did not blind buy. Edit 9/10: turns out I DID blind buy this, along with all the other Layali flankers (sheesh), and turns out actually I DO LIKE IT, and the Tjmaxx bottle was in fact rancid! while I am not a plum and ylang-ylang enjoyer, somehow in this mix I enjoy them. The oud dirties up the ylang-ylang and greens up the banana accord, tickling my nose pleasantly. The rose dries up the plum quite nicely which is often too sweet to my nose (even tho I like sweet scents). It's my least favorite of the Layali flankers, my favorites from most to least are: Layali Rouge, Yulali, Amaali, Layali OG (this one). I will also note, out of all the Layali flankers this one has gotten me the most compliments. Worth noting that this is a review of the oil, I tried the EDP format in store and it doesn't even compare tbh, personally I would not bother with any of the Layali line unless it's the oil.

this is a gorgeous fragrance, a fine balance of everything, fruit, flower, wood, i do not smell any cumin, at least not with me, its a delicate perfume, last for hours, it start up smooth, you taste the fruits. the flowers come in the dry down is very soft fragrance but also noticeable around you . i do not call it a fruitchouli at all, of course that depends on everyone there smell and skin chemistry , its not typical sweet of flowery, i find it a perfect combo, so both male and female could wear it..

Maybe I’m crazy but I get Mugler vibes from this. If you told me this were her latest release and threw it in a crazy bottle I’d believe you!! I really like it, smells mysterious and sexy. If you’re afraid of oud I don’t really pick that up at all. Mostly get fruits and Jasmine with a warmth coming through on the dry down. I detect patchouli in the opening but that fades away pretty quick so I’m not sure that’s actually a note. Definitely not a safe blind buy- I can see this being polarizing.

I love using these Swiss Arabian oils as a base for layering.

This is a bad fruit-floral combination - when I smelled it without looking at the notes my first impression was that this was a strawberry-kiwi blend but I guess that's just the outcome of the plum and blackcurrant mixing with the florals. The net effect is like the artificial fruit syrup in a gummy candy or something like that. It's disappointing because its flanker Layali Rouge is excellent, go check that one out instead of this one.

It has a very dark floral scent that I found unique it just doesn't fall into something that I would choose to wear. I wouldn't even use this for layering. I feel like this is something an older woman or man would wear

I must have gotten a bad batch because all I smell is laundry detergent. Not the nice kind. Just awful. I'm confused to see another layali that seems the same with raving reviews, are there two types?

I don’t like this :( despite the absolutely stunning bottle. This is such a weird scent, and does remind me of pine trees like someone has said in another review. Not a good fruity floral blend. I regret putting this on my skin and cannot wait to scrub this off. Completely ruined my day! Will give this a 2/10 for the beautiful bottle but that’s it! Do not blind buy like I did.

I love Swiss Arabian. I do not care for this perfume oil. It is VERY animalic. I get some sweetness but mostly all I smell is cumin. It’s a let down.

This was the first CPO I tried from the Swiss Arabian sample set. Something about it kept reminding me of pine trees, or Christmas, I don’t know why. Maybe the combo of plums and oud? It’s not bad, but I’m still acclimating to the concept of CPO in general. Being accustomed to alcohol-based perfumes, I find that the oils so far all sort of smell mostly like oil to me, outweighing the particular notes they each have and lacking complexity. I’m curious to see if I change my mind, I have 20 others to try in the sample set! Update: there are several CPOs in the sample set that I’d classify as being in the same fragrance category as Layali: Amaali, Layali Rouge, Yulali, Zahra and Jamila. Of them, I think Yulali and Jamila are the best. Layali Rouge and Zahra have zero longevity, and Layali itself only lasts a couple hours on me before needing reapplication. Yulali and Jamila both lasted longer and seemed more balanced and complex compared to the others. Amaali is decent, but isn’t as long lasting and I personally dislike the caramel note in it.

EEK!!! What the listed notes don't tell you, is that this perfume contains a definite CUMIN note! Which is a pity, b/c it seems otherwise absolutely delightful! I hate hate hate Cumin! It smells like BO to me. The Cumin content is low, but Cumin is such a STANKY note, that any inclusion of it in a perfume, flat out ruins any perfume creation for me. I can't emphasize enough, though, *** otherwise *** what a delightful perfume this is! Extremely light, feminine, fresh, delicate! Smells like Spring in a bottle- EXCEPT for that d*&!m Cumin! If you are worried about "fruity floral"- Otherwise known as "fruitchouli"- Don't! This is a gorgeous floral, barely accented by opening fresh, watery, light fruits- Unfortunately, after just several minutes, the Cumin emerges even stronger. Sorry, the Cumin- although just a minor amount- ruins an otherwise delightful, extremely delicate, feminine, fresh floral perfume!

The bottle is so beautiful, but the perfume is not. I expected this oil to be more scented and to last. It did neither of those things. I'm not so good at identifying notes, but I think I smell some plum in there. In the end, I might dump the contents and use the bottle for something more worthy.

Very, very fruity (black currant and plum) with a hint of flowers (orange blossom, rose) in the opening. Oud lays its mattress for the defined ambergris. Jasmine is vague and I do not detect ylang-ylang at all. A very particular perfume in a work of art "Flower" bottle.

I have this perfume and I love it. A perfect balance of fruity and floral notes... sweet, even creamy, almost gourmand. But I don't wear it just because sometime it seems to me more feminine than unisex. What's your opinion ?

Wow. Perfect day time fregrance. Those who want to smell like balsamic fruity kinda special. Sexy for date time.. I imagine myself with sweetest lady wearing this kida perfume.

I love arabian perfumes. LAYALI is a gorgeous fragrance, i love the bottle. This scent stays on my skin the whole day. Its fruity, floral, just amazing, love it so much !!!

A very sweet, one note perfume oil. No floral, just fruit for me anyways. Melon, perhaps.

The same scent like Oyuny Al Haramain. Only bottle is different
