L'Etoile Mourante

It smells like walking through a dead forest in the middle of the night—not a rotten kind of dead, but long since scorched and silent. The air is dry, still, almost hollow, but still fresh—a soft breeze blowing. There's a sadness in it, like tears on perfumed skin, a soft ache that lingers. You walk through this scene and the scent sticks to your skin, mixing with your natural warmth. That is this fragrance. The scent is vaguely salty, with a whisper of spice—peppery and dry. A dusty, smoky floral hums beneath it all, barely sweet, but there's a freshness that keeps it from feeling old. The spice plays gently with the woody base, never heavy—just enough to ground it. It clings to skin like something ghosted and soft—my skin, but better.

Really interesting scent. The first moments remind me of clean plastic, vinyl, and maybe floral scented disinfectant wipes. There's a chemical element reminiscent of the abstract stylings of a CDG perfume. A bit of smoke and that waxy, almost crayon-like texture with a cool, mildly sweet earth tone pinning it together. The florals really stand out and give me a purple iris kind of similarity. It feels sterile without feeling sharp though, and I find it a bit unsettling. The wisteria is like lilac apparently, and it has this soapy pungency that combines with the carrot and woods to feel cold and a bit etheral. It's half natural extract and half synthetic polymer, like the scent for a cyborg. Or a damp concrete basement. That's where I see a haunting kind of gothic quality to it, making me think of graveyards under the moonlight- but it's cold and not glowing, maybe even morose? Overall it ventures a bit too far into an uncanny valley to wear but I enjoyed the novelty.
