Tabac

I've had this for about 2 years now, and I'm just now starting to appreciate it now that I've gotten more into my classic drugstore types of fragrances. This is to Germans what Old Spice is to Americans, if you're my age and you live in Germany, there's a good chance your grandpa wore this stuff every day and maybe your dad has memories of using the bathroom in the morning and it smelling like Tabac. I think the Eau de Cologne was the most popular back then, but this review is going to be for the Eau de Toilette. Now, I love Old Spice, and the current formula of the aftershave is REALLY good still although it doesn't last very long. However, the current formula of the Old Spice EDC is absolute garbage compared to what it used to be. Tabac, however, has held up incredibly well over the years and it still smells great in the opening, great in the mid, and even the dry-down even though it's not anything special, it has something going on with it. If you're going to buy Tabac, just get the modern stuff because they clearly still care about this stuff enough to make it smell good. I'm not sure if I've reviewed this in the past, but I've changed my previous rating of "like" to "love", because this really does smell incredible for the price you can get it at. It's dirt cheap, and I'm actually really happy that I've got 2 bottles of it now. I think I got the pair of them for less than $20 on eBay. I'm very interested to try the EDC, perhaps I'll get a big bottle of the splash version of that so that I can use it like an aftershave. That's a good pro-tip btw: if you want an aftershave that's going to last, just get the splash bottle version of an EDC and it works just about the same as an aftershave. I do this with Canoe, Jovan Musk, and I'd like to do it with this as well. Even though this is definitely not one of the fragrances I'd wear out on a date or anything, or at least it wouldn't be my first pick, this is one of those fragrances I have no issues wearing out in public as even though it does smell like something that your grandpa might have worn, it still holds up and ultimately it just smells nice, fresh, clean and even a bit classy. Much like vintage Old Spice used to smell like back in the day. I think you could wear this into the office as a 30+ guy, but maybe if you were in your 20s you'd have a bit of explaining to do and people might tease you for smelling like an old man. I personally couldn't care less about that shit, so to me it'd be something I might reach for.

I've recently purchased all 3 versions of this (after shave, cologne and eau de Toilette) After shave: Obviously the weakest in terms of longevity, but I find that while it lasts, projection is about the same as the cologne (not great - they both sit quite close and rapidly become a skin scent). The scent itself though, is gorgeous. Rose, carnation and geranium present a beautiful, powdery and softly soapy bouquet. This one is probably my favourite in terms of just the fragrance. I first smelled this on an elderly Spanish gent, and in a flash I realised that floral fragrances are my thing. The aura it gives is relaxed and genteel, not ostentatiously sophisticated or "rich", but certainly not cheap or brash. Quiet, thoughtful and unassuming masculinity, which wears a faded rose as its button hole. Eau de cologne: More lovely floral powderiness here, but with a little time jasmine enters, rather shyly at first, and before it can become too overtly pissy a light, subtly creamy sandalwood appears and blends with it to absolute perfection. Eau de Toilette: Things are quite markedly different here. The EDT opens up with lovely zesty, fuzzy, sherberty lemon notes (some lemon thyme in there as well I think). There is still a noticeable rose, but I find this an altogether fresher experience of rose - one of those higher, "zingier" floral notes. There is not much development with this fragrance, but it really is rather pleasant (trying not to damn with faint praise here!). All in all, a relatively more assertive, fresher incarnation of Tabac, which is somewhat less floral and powdery. Age wise, I think all these versions will tend to appeal to the more mature men and women. For me Tabac, in any of its forms, is a perennial favourite.

Anyone who knows Tabac Original has more than likely heard the claim that the EdC is the one to get—and that the EdT is nothing short of horrid. If you're a Tabac fan, you've probably followed suit and avoided the EdT. I, too, have been wearing—and enjoying—Tabac Original Eau de Cologne for many years now. Yet, without ever having so much as sniffed the EdT, I found myself parroting that same old saw... "Get the Cologne, avoid the EdT at all costs!", I'd warn one and all. The truth is, I hadn't even an inkling of what the Eau de Toilette actually smelled like, and yet, I crowned the EdC König. How absurd. So I finally did something about it. I bought the EdT, tried it, and I am happy to report—I like it. A lot. What does it smell like? To begin with, it's certainly not in any way horrid, nor is it—as one might reasonably expect—simply a stronger concentration of the EdC. Indeed, it is a different fragrance. Soapy. Spicey. But the Tabac DNA is there. That alone makes it interesting. Because like the brand's aftershave, bath soap, shaving soap, deodorant, shower gel, and other products in the line, they all smell slightly different from one another. And according to the company website, they acknowledge this variation on the theme. Although the EdC remains my Tabac of choice, I'm happy I finally got around to trying it. I discovered a new fragrance... and learned a little life lesson in the process. Give Tabac EdT a try. It's still made in Germany. Still inexpensive. Still 100% Tabac. Of course, there's no guarantee you'll prefer it to the EdC, or even that you'll like it... but then again, you just might. Hals und Beinbruch!

Tabac is not really for the average person under 30. A review written by anyone more suited to wearing Paco Rabanne 1 million or something expensive from Guerlain, is going to be skewed against something like Tabac because the latter is less than 30 units of currency (often less than 20) and is available at a local chemist's shop. The young men who don't like it probably had fathers wearing Paco Rabanne and Cool Water, which is fine. The older men who deride it probably want to escape their father's fragrance choices, that's okay too. This is what nostalgia is for them and will inform their fragrance choices. Dismiss any preconceptions and take Tabac for what it is: a rather sophisticated 'barbershop-style' preparation that doubles as a fine understated cologne. Its long heritage and ability to have avoided the slide to the bargain bin that other old classics have suffered, means it has retained a sense of dependable quality. Like Old Spice it has now become intertwined with how old-school gentleman comport themselves. Tabac isn't a cheap musk-bomb, or an overpowering cloud of sandalwood or an alcoholic astringent. It is a complex of crisp floral and citrus top-notes, mild lavender and gentle spices and petitgrain at the heart, woody moss at the bottom and a pinch of tobacco throughout. It doesn't shout out like Brut upon application and it develops well before it dries down. You catch it on your clothes at the end of the day (even the following day) and the fragrance is refined. Tabac is affordable and dependable and quality. It is probably best as a daytime fragrance (both summer and winter).

Freshly shaven out of the shower you walk to the closet where your +150 frags are divided into 4 olfactory groups all yelling to you : pick me PICK MEEEE.... Its hot and humid and you skip the sweet and deep orientals... Closes the door of this group ... Next door : aquatics (citrus-ozonics) .... Mmmm im done wearing these aqua boys lately im more into a frag with a kick...closes door Next door the woody / leather group ... Mmmm damn its hot today i want some freshness... Maybe i need a sharper citrus like eau savage or rochas?? Last door i open : my oldskool powerhouse group full of soapiness and yes my verdict is done: I pull out the big 300 ml 10.2 oz edc Tabac and splash my upper torso and neck with 2 hands of this magical bliss... Combined with 2 sprays of edt to combine Im al awake fresh and shaven ready to go for work Kissing wife and kids downstairs and they tell me how good i smell ... Not old fashioned - tacky - grandpa stuff but a well done blast of bergamot, aldehydes, lavender, fresh tobacco and florals welcome your new day to come. Drydown is also very sublte as it combines in your cotton leaving a pleasant aura I truly love the EdC and i love the EDT in both ways , where i find that the EDT has more smokiness on the drydown and the Edc has more freshness and light tobacco in offering From start till end both stay linear but good Masterpiece - underrated by many (thank god) , so it will maintain an oddity :-)

“Which one I’ll wear today?”. You precisely are familiar with that question. A perfume lover is cursed to put it to himself, in the morning, two or three times a week. And, when I can’t make up my mind... when I find myself undecided between some frags I love... for instance, when I can’t choose between Chanel’s Antaeus and Rabanne’s Pour Homme... I must confess: I always take the good old (and manly floral) Tabac, the EDT version. Say, 20 years ago I furiously rejected the simple white bottle. 10 years ago I put it in my collection, but I treat the scent with an enormous negligence. But wisdom came with the age. M&W Tabac it’s a gem. No one will ever write a history of world’s fragrances without honoring this old soldier. Definitely, it is a Top 3 entry among the “cheap” – in terms of price – fragrances available today. The quality/price ratio is astonishing. Pour les connaisseurs. Anytime, anywhere, a 8,5/10.

My dad used the shaving soap when I was a kid. I remember it smelled good, but I couldn't remember the smell itself. I just bought a 100 ml EDC, and it's wonderful. It's comparable to Old Spice, but I think Tabac smells cleaner and fresher. One spray on each side of the neck and one on the chest does the job. It doesn't get overpowering, and I smell it on myself throughout the day (I applied 9 hours ago). Very good longevity and sillage. Women like it as well, even the younger crowd. If you like Old Spice and classic men's fragrances in general, you'll really like this. Well balanced, fresh, clean and calming. I rarely stick to one fragrance over a longer period of time, but I've been wearing this every day since I got it because it's just so....wonderful.

very very impressed. I used to not like tobacco scents. Versace dreamer went some way to changing my mind. I wouldn't say that this smells similar but is in the same style in that it has a prominent tobacco note, is imo a cold weather scent but is also has a freshness that makes it a good option when you want something warm but also a bit lively. the opening is very soapy and clean. this eventually dies down to reveal the tobacco/ lavender combo. The lavender is very generic/ familiar (depending on whether you see this as a positive). Very safe blind buy, good performance, amazing price. Might be redundant if you have a very big fragrance collection, it doesn't really do anything new and you may find yourself reaching for other things instead.

When I posted my review of this fragrance a couple of years ago, I did not realize that there were TWO different versions of this scent that are both called "Tabac Original," with the only way to know the difference between them being the way the logos are printed on the bottle. That's more than a little bit weird to me. But it turns out that the review I did was for the other bottle, which is more flowery. This one is more aldehydic and fresh, and between the two... I like this one a whole helluva lot more. But, as with the other, the performance is similar; very soft projection, durability isn't that great. If they offered a stronger version of this fragrance, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I recall reading as a kid in the mid-60's that Tabac was the favorite aftershave of the Beatles. It wasn't until several years later that I actually came across a bottle of it to sample, but I was hooked right away. Since it's a German creation, my hunch is that the lads were introduced to it during their tenure in Hamburg by Astrid Kirchherr, the photographer and fashionista who also got them wearing their distinctive hairstyles. Whether or not that's accurate, I still can't help hearing the strains of "A Hard Day's Night," "Can't Buy Me Love," or "Please Please Me" every time I splash some on. The scent fits --- it's bright, fresh, and energetic, just like those early Beatles songs.

I just love this scent. After a somewhat heavy start it embraces the wearer beautifully and makes him feel clean, well-shaven and suave in an old-fashioned way. Under the flowery aldehydes comes the tabac: Not unsmoked aromatic pipe tobacco but slightly smoky and straightforward no-nonsense shag. However, the popularity of the fragrance among 60+ men and the easily recognizable scent make wearing it a bit tricky. An example: When I get a whiff of Tabac somewhere, the first thing coming to my mind is that my dad is secretly shadowing me. But these associations or images are not important. Tabac is good, and that's it. I'm going to keep on spraying myself with it, proudly.

I just recently obtained the EDC after first buying the EDT. As Castor noted in his review, the EDC has nothing to do with the EDT. I compared the list of ingredients and altough there were many the same, there were also many different. The EDC has limonene, oakmoss, tree moss and the EDT does not. The EDT is 79% (alcohol) but the EDC is 78% (?) but the EDT is much stronger. As for the scent, the EDC (which I take is the original formulation) is soapy and musky with a tobacco note - very appealing really. The EDT I have already reviewed - it smells more like a spin-off of Paco Rabanne pour Homme. I like the notes in the EDC muh more, it's a pity that it's not stronger.

I LOVE this fragrance. Thought it was "Mehhh..." at first but tried it again and was sold/hooked. Tabac smells like a more sophisticated Old Spice. Scent 9/10 Projection 7/10 Enough to get you noticed. Longevity 7/10 Versatility 9/10 I can see this fairing well in all seasons. It is excellent for casual scenarios... doing errands, taking your dog for a walk, going fishing, things of that nature. Because of it's relatively fleeting life span I personally don't wear it to work. All in all this is a timeless, soapy, floral, masculine fragrance that will stand out in a crowd of boring modern fragrances. I recommend it to those who appreciate classics fragrances.

To me, Tabac was synonymous with the word aftershave. It used to be my father's favourite and now I can see why. It gives one heck of a sting when applied after shaving, but it soon clams down the skin and leaves it soft and very supple. For me, it's a winter scent, although many would argue it's equally good in the summer months. I personally get a warm feeling from it - I'm not quite sure what the notes all are but I detect some florals (lavender for one) and plenty of spicy woods. As an aftershave it is very oily which gives the skin a good covering after shaving and yet it last through the next day! I can't believe how powerful this one is!

My go To fragrance. I purchased the cologne about 2 weeks ago and I was slowly swept off my feet. I had smelled it many times before over many years- but was never Too keen on it then. However, all grown up now.... you put aside childish things and get a bottle of this. The key To this fragrance lies in the delicate balance between a flowery and smoky scent. The 2 scents seem To exist simultaneously, although u can only detect one at a time. The smokiness reminds me of a wodburning fire indoors or even a fresh out of the pan kassler chop. I know, Odd. In the words of Toni Braxton, "how many ways can I love you?... let me count the ways"

My dad, a flagrantly un-hip guy, wore this stuff -- perhaps because his father before him wore it. It was "dated" even when Dad wore it. But who cares about "dated"? It still smells nice. It smells of leather-scented shaving soap and sweet pipe tobacco. It's gentle and warm while still being clean and fresh. Once it dries, it stays politely close to the skin, which is sometimes exactly what you want. I'm biased, of course. This scent reminds me of the times when my parents were happiest together. Such memories are bound to smell good. I find it can work as a unisex fragrance. I'm a woman and my husband enjoys the scent on me.

This is my second review. I had EdT version and I really loved it. Recently I read in BaseNotes that Tabac EdC was a quite different and supposedly better stuff. Since I am a Tabac fan, I decided to try it and made a blind buy. Here my opinion: EdT and EdC are really different scents. I don't know why Mäurer & Wirtz used the same name for them. For the EdC: Don't let the "eau de cologne" term fool you. It has a considerable longevity. But sillage is rather soft. Actually this may be an advantage for office use. Both EdC and EdT are very good fragrances. Altough BaseNoters use their votes for EdC, I strongly prefer EdT.

I recently got the EDT after reading up about it. Apparently the EDC is a different fragrance altogether, with more of a tobacco note. The EDT starts off strong and in no small way resembles Paco Rabanne, though slightly weaker. It is a soapy fragrance where oakmoss is predominant. There is also a subdued 'blossomy note' , which is probably the jasmine. After 30 minutes, the strength of this fragrance has drastically reduced from being almost on par with Paco Rabanne, to being only a fraction of it. The longevity falls short of P.R. also, but compared with many of the more modern fragrances is still quite acceptible.

It's a time machine, one of those fragrances that will take you to the past immediately after the first sniff. A fragrance that indeed smells dated but in a very good way. I got the same feelings when i sniff L'air du Temps. Timeless, solid yet transparent, rich yet light, so approachable and comforting. About the scent (mine is a vintage edc), it's dominated by the aldehydes and sandalwood, colored by spicy carnation and tobacco, balanced by the lavender, citrus, and piney note, and supported by floral notes. In short, it smells like a luxurious 80s soap. Just do not expect strong tobacco present here.

Tabac is genuinely awesome. I bought the EDC as a blind buy. I am not keen on splash bottles so I decanted some into a bottle with a monster sprayer. Two squirts are enough and it's strong but not intrusive; the lavender and tobacco really work well with my skin chemistry. Decent longevity and even when it has faded in the early evening it still seems to pop up every now and again to let me know it is doing its thing. I would be surprised if a younger guy could make Tabac work but aged 35 or more it gives a warm, sensible and professional vibe. A masterpiece.

Tobacco, oakmoss, amber, tonka, vanilla, sandalwood are you Kidding!! Reeks of Maturity, masculinity, and class, without being overbearing and in your face. It's Male perfection. Timeless Classic. This review is for the Eau De Cologne only! Not the EDT. The EDT is NOT the same sent, not even close, it lacks the Tobacco that the EDC reeks of. The EDT is more floral and feminine. The bottle this comes in is very well made, masculine like the Cologne itself. Made in Germany, what more could one ask for. Alfa Male Scent 10/10

Decent little cheapie, doesn't last, doesn't do anything particularly special, but it's a classic 1950s style aftershave that has some history. I recommend it to anybody who likes the Old Spice Original, but if you're not into stuff like that then just skip this one. Good for right out of the shower use, very nice and fresh, if you wanna be a 1950s German dad for a day then get the Tabac aftershave and shave soap, clean up real nice and put some of this stuff on and maybe some Brisk hair cream and you're set.

English Leather and Old Spice had a child... His name was Tabac. The "Cologne" version is the one you want. I have both the cologne and the EDT. While the EDT is basically the same scent, it has a different emphasis on the notes. EDT has a bit more spiciness and what seems like less leather and tobacco. Normally you would think that an EDT is going to be a longer lasting version vs the cologne... but this is not the case. I don't see where it lasts any longer, and I prefer the cologne version in the notes.

tried for the day of native the edc today. to the beginnings it is a clean bomb and of soap. awesome!!i love it, in fact I thought about having sprinkled too much of it. later 1 hour didn't feel even now it more on my skin.it is not now even on my suits.the odor of the kitchen of the restaurant has perhaps won on tabac. it has a fantastic odor.I like indeed it.I will retry it and I will reinstate or I lead my impression. does the edt perhaps have more longevities and sillage?

This was always my Grandfathers favourite aftershave. As I will be 40 in a few months, I decided to buy a bottle. It smells exactly as I remembered it! when I had my first job interview at 16, I went for a shave at the barbers beforehand and, after the shave, this was the aftershave the barber used. Unfortunately the smell doesn't last very long but when it's there it's like a window back in time. Happy memories from a real gem of a fragrance.

I have Tabac shaving soap, Tabac After Shave Lotion and Tabac edt. I just love Tabac, and I have loved it since I was a kid back in the sixties :) The edt is a bit different from the AS Lotion and it's not as nice. Anyway, when shaving with Tabac shaving soap and using the AS lotion afterwards you have this wonderful scent for the whole day. I know that a lot of ppl say it smells like an old geezer but I don't care, it's a classic!!

This review is for EDC. I think this version of Tabac is probably the best because the aldehydes persist longer than the EDT or the aftershave in my opinion. A delightful opening of fresh soapy aldehydes and citrus. The drydown stays fresh, I can just smell the tobacco in the background and the aldehydic sillage is lovely. Comes in a quality heavy glass flacon. Really great, inexpensive and classic scent for men.

This is the stuff that got me hooked on perfume way back in the early eighties... so I will pay homage to it here by declaring my everlasting love for it: I will be faithful! Every four or five years I pop down to Boots the chemist to buy a little bottle and reacquaint myself with this lovely scent. A magical avalanche of great memories and a cast of dear friends comes flooding back. It's magical stuff.

I think this stuff is simply wonderful. I wear it myself (in summer) and just love it on a man. It is clean, choc full of Amber Aldehyde, and best of all smells exactly the same as it always has. Men, if you don't own this, you cannot go wrong. It smells clean but sexy, and is full of class, even though it is not expensive. Please may it never, ever, be reformulated. A true unisex too.

Tabac....Where do we start? This, first of all doesn't cost much. The fragrance is aldehydic, soapy and fresh. It is presented in a lovely opaque thick white glass bottle. If you get the splash - it's one of the best, if fact I prefer this to a spray. Have a shower, and spritz on Tabac, on your chest and arms. You will feel great. By the way, I think the EDC is the nicest.

Bought a bottle of the AS a week ago and now I want to get the entire range. Works perfectly for me. The more I use it the more I like it plus I seem to need less now since using it for a week to cover my face. Deffinetely a leather scent most of the time I wear it and it really comes out of the background as the surrounding temperature rises or if I'm in direct sunlight.

Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 044 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased June 2017 Part 2 Yet another fab one; love it or hate it type of thing. Unquestionably classic. Powdery tobacco soap and aldehydes. Gonna have to ask my mum again if she once said this is nostalgic to when her dad wore Tabac in the '60s/'70s.

A classic. A masterpiece. Smells like nothing from the department store- thank goodness. Those who are saying this doesn’t last long...well, one spray lasts until my next shower the following morning. If you don’t like musky 1970s hair on the chest scents, then you’ve always got the ubiquitous aquatic azarro chrome to go to. Masterpiece. Yep.

I've tried the after shave. It's soapy on me, but I quite like its cleanness . The tobacco notes are smokey in the fisrt, and then turn into bit honey smell, giving way to floral, smooth yet masculine. The only thing is, it can't stay on my skin very long. I ordered EDT version, can't wait to try it !

Barbershop, barbershop, barbershop and barbershop...................this, like Agua Lavanda is a page turner, they changed the direction of scents for men. Masculine, virile and not a wallflower.. Maurer and Wirtz can stop production of all others but this, this scent will not come to an end.

Bought the EDT last week and the deospray today to complete the mission. It's just a classic perfume that stands the test of time. Never had it before (I'm 46) and now I'm seriously thinking of buying Old Spice also. I've had Old Spice before (deodorant) but never as perfume/cologne.

This review is for the EDT which is a bit different. A beautiful fresh, soapy scent which is a bit floral too. A medium priced cologne. Longevity is good and the sillage is good too. It's a nice man's fragrance. This and Jovan Musk are the 2 best cheap men's fragrances out there!

The most beautiful blend of tobacco and aldehydes i have ever put my nose to. Utterly timeless and exotic. With sorry to pseudo-aficionados, if put in fancy bottle with niche banner and price tag of $300; this juice will sell like hot cakes with much higher rating.

This is the 4th brother of Old Spice, Brut and One man show :) Love it! Longevity is poor, good for 2 hr meeting. Classic masculine goldie. Scent 8/10 Sillage 7/10 First 30 mins. are great. Longevity 5/10 Value 10/10

I dont care what people say, this eau de cologne is addictive. To bad boys my age dont wear it. but thats a personal opinion ofcourse =D. Its sooo soapy it just smells like CLEAN. very masculine. Love it love it

Tabac... uhmmmmmm! An absolute classic! Warm, manly, cosy, trustworthy, brilliant. My granddad used this along Aqua Velva and I ́m still in love with this fantastic classic scent! Great price, great scent!

as promised I tried the edc and is a triumph of aldehydes, tobacco and flowers. incredible performance. 9/10 also for the price. a fragrance macho-romantic-clean-soapy. strangely better edc that edt.

This one is my absolute favourite. There are very few fragrances that match the performance of Tabac on my skin. It has an intense, mysterious fragrance and good projection. 4.5/5

I discovered this gem while stationed in Germany. It's a blast of citrus and jasmine that rapidly mellows down to a creamy, smooth sandalwood. Amazing stuff. Absolute blind buy.

i tested TABAC yesterday and i got this strong soapy drydown, totally different to what i smelled the first time when tried it. I even think of giving it a second chance

Tabac is a safe bet. Does it smell soapy? Yes... But that "cleanliness" makes it "safe". You can wear it anywhere, anytime. Not assertive but definitely manly...

i bought the 100 ml EDT. Tried it. MAN, this stuff is way too strong, so i gifted it o my dad! I can imagine only men over 40 yo wearing this.

Classic. It doesn't get more classic 1970s. Still working today. Want to say it's nostalgia as much as it's a good scent.
