06 Incense Rose

Tauer perfumes seem to be consistently excellent, judging by the few I've tried so far. 06 Incense Rose was a priority for me, given its name. Rose and incense are two of my favourite notes, and are a match made in heaven as far as perfumery is concerned. Amouage Lyric Woman and Rose Incense are two gold standard examples (and personal favourites), but 06 is a fresh, interesting take on this accord. The rose-incense here is greener and fresher than in the aforementioned Amouage scents, but it is the sweet, concentrated orange note of the opening that sets 06 apart. 06 has a strong, attention-grabbing opening thanks to the orange and cardamom. The orange is boozy and concentrated, reminiscent of orange-flavoured liqueur. The cardamom is challenging, and together with the orange note makes for a polarising combination, but this initially jarring accord paves the way to the balsamic base, becoming seamless as it mellows and the scent unfolds. The rose blooms on my skin after a little while, dewy and fresh, yet becoming increasingly full-bodied as it develops. It becomes powdery after some time, perhaps thanks to the orris. I don't get the scent of orris itself, but it likely adds texture. As it develops, balsamic incense comes to the fore, fresh and spicy. I adore incense - the closer to the churchy, smoky frankincense of Catholic Mass, the better. Here, it is not smoky - it is airy and green, yet rich and balsamic - utterly beautiful. It marries beautifully with the rose, as expected. Rich, resinous amber notes emerge, rounding out the incense nicely. The dry, woody notes complement the incense to perfection, bringing it to ecclesiastical territory. A pinch of patchouli adds an earthy counterpoint to the balsamic richness of the later stages. What's left of the orange complements the sweet balsamic amber of the base beautifully, a testament to Andy Tauer's skill. Such cohesion is difficult to visualise when hit with the initial blast of fizzy orange! It fades to a dry, balsamic skin scent with woods and soft spices remaining until final fade. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting. It is a unisex, autumn/winter scent. A bold, creative approach to a classic accord, there is much to admire here. 06 certainly isn't for everyone, but it is a masterful composition that grabs and holds one's attention throughout. Made with excellent, high-quality ingredients, 06 is a treat for those who "get" it, but certainly doesn't have mass appeal. Excellent. 4.5/5.

I have come to the conclusion that Andy Tauer is something you either "get" or you don't. But don't even try to understand his work if you like more than 5% of what Macy's has to offer. I don't mean to sound like some sort of snob. What I mean is that if you enjoy mainstream crowd pleasers meant to appeal to the masses then the chances are extremely slim that you will "get" it. At least at this point in the perfume journey. If you find most of everything at Macy's (sorry Macy's I don't mean to pick on you, just using you as an example) mostly boring and generic and you crave something different.....then try some niche and indie options....but still hold off on Tauer. Wait until you get to the point of loathing most of what the department stores have to offer. Now, it is time to give the Tauer a shot. And when you do, tell yourself that you will not come to a conclusion until you have tried a Tauer at least 3 times. Tauer is a three try minimum. And if you want to try quintessential Tauer, reach for Incense Rose. Spray ONE spray and distribute it however you choose. Wear it all day before even considering an opinion. Then do this two more times. Now you are in a position to judge a Tauer. I hated Incense Rose the first time I tried it. Thought people were nuts or only "pretending" to like it. My perfume journey continued and after sampling and purchasing literally hundreds of niche and indie perfumes, the Tauer Incense Rose was flashing back in my memory. Would I like it now? So comes....wearing number two. "Hmmm, this is interesting. Something is drawing me in here. But not sure how I feel about it". I move on. Fast forward through hundreds more (yes, I am an addict with a major sampling disorder) and I decide to whip out the Incense Rose again. This time I am blown away. I GET IT. I really get it. I look at perfume this way now. There are pre-school, elementary, junior high, high school, college, master and graduate level perfumes. Andy Tauer is a PhD and Incense Rose is his thesis. True artwork, phenomenally complex and masterfully crafted. The work of a genius. Some may say mad scientist and I would not necessarily disagree. Because when I wear Tauer I usually feel like I am wearing the diary of a madman. And sometimes it takes a madman to produce this level of art, this level of genius.

In spice stores in Israel, there is often a little back section where you can buy resins for melting -- frankincense, myrrh, and much more whose names I do not know in English but which are very important in Tunisian and other Mizrahi Jewish communities. Rose water and citrus water (called mei zohar, shining water) would sit on the shelves. Mondays and Thursdays are considered the most auspicious days for burning/melting resins. That is when "the Torah is open" (meaning publicly read, ie in synagogue) and a corresponding openness is hoped-for on the part of the heavens. A young patron would be told this by a responsible shopkeeper, who would not assume the new generation will necessarily know the nuance of the tradition. I live "in exile" now but remember well how I could just pick up a scoop of myrrh or frankincense with my little bags of cumin and qetsah. Just a little to turn to smoke on foil on the stovetop. The myrrh note in Incense Rose is simply so true. I actually forgot what real myrrh smells like until Incense Rose, which I bought in the quest for a dark rose. It is that, but in the form of painful homesickness. I love it and will wear it -- but carefully. Perhaps on Mondays and Thursdays. Edit: Something more must be said. This is a complex scent which rests on notes for ingredients most people have never smelled. Look through reviews of fragrances that include the myrrh ingredient -- cola and fizzy drinks come up again and again, even as they complain that there is no incense. That IS the incense -- that is the myrrh! Get some real resin sometime, heat it slowly and carefully, and you will see for yourself. Cola! It misses the point. Even as I wear this scent, love and recognise it, I realise to myself that it is probably being read by most others, especially North Americans, in a much different way than I do. Bonus Edit: I thought I could detect no rose in this until I sampled Taurville Rose Flash. Now I get it. It is a sweet rose oil very similar to the one used there, which blends seamlessly into the myrrh, which in turn blends seamlessly into the castoreum. You can find the centres of these scents once you know how to spot them, but you cannot find their borders. Excellent blending.

Wow this is potent beyond believe , like most , or all of Andys creations. He really is a mad scientist at its best!!! insece Rose is like any real perfume should be like, you can taste the oils and raw ingredients , full of real flavours and presence. Nothing that would ever be sold in a mall lol Anyways to the real review. I love the opening !!! So bright , sparkly aldehydic and fizzy , like opening a can of orange Fanta ,,, someone said coke in here and that is exactly what I smell , a bubbly , sweet fizzy Spetzi ( we mix coke with Fanta in Germany and call it SPEZI ) It's slightly Sour , quite sweet and has amazing energy and loads of character. This is real perfumery , Art at its best. Dries down with resins and patchouli , phantasyic !!! Can smell the yummy cardamom all the way through this perfume , which is one of my favourite aspects along with its fizziness. I canot smell smoke , and I find it quite unisex ! This perfume brings me back to Germany/ Switzerland , and it's not just because I drank a lot of Spezis as a child , but because the smell of this fragrance is extremly Swizz to me. My parents buy natural products and have baths in natural,oils , maybe is that why? Or is it the "Glühwein " with cinnamon and cardamon and cloves we had around Christmas ? I can't put my figure on it but just smelling it bring s me back to my childhood , especially to all the ski holidays in Swizzwrland. I haven't tried more than a handful of Andis creations but I was rarely disappointed. Even if some aren't my style I love smelling them , like I like looking at a beautiful piece of art. I may not buy it but I can admire it. ( the art lol ,,,, Insence Rose I may not be able to resist!!) I smell some similarities to orange star in here , which I also love very much ! 10/ 10 for uniqueness and excellency ! Thanks Cristianne1 for sharing your best fragrances always so generously. So hard for us Canadians to get our hands on some of the Tauers , thanks for your kindness !

Brilliant! This was not love at first sniff, the opening is very rich, my first impression was of a thick potpourri, dried flowers, resins, woods, herbs, I could not connect with it. This is actually quite common with some of my favorites, as they are not designed like department store fragrances, to rope you in on first sniff only to be disappointed later, and even some very pricey niche brands employ this model. Tauer is a master of resins and spices.The reward of this fragrance is in the drydown, as everything starts mingling into a sum greater than its parts, and parts there are many. The initial impression is a very true resin accord, and I mean like fresh resin coming off the tree. It is extremely close to eucalyptus resin. Bitter orange peel. Floral notes make themselves known, not concisely rose, but deeply colored flowers, perhaps a hint of carnation, violet. A warm musk holds down the base, a very fine example, if not one of the best I've ever smelled, of how animal notes can be used deftly to amplify richness. The drydown takes time, maybe a couple of hours. The results are fabulous. The composition shifts from deep, dark, rich plant material to a lighter, sweeter affair, the rose takes shape and is not a caricature of rose, but very much the smell of a fresh red rose. A lovely soft orris develops into a light powder that perfectly matches the fatty, salty touch of ambergris for a clean saponified effect. A hint of zesty vetiver keeps it tangy, picking up where the initial citrus notes left off. The resins become warm and slightly sweet, and the cardamom give it a gourmand appeal of rice pudding. I haven't seen it mentioned, but the drydown is very much like my memory of the Old Spice from back in the day, sans the aldehydes. Could go feminine or masculine. This is a real journey for the wearer, and I have grown into the opening, which is more interesting than appealing, but the drydown is superb and lasts a long time.

Couple of reviewers below referred to this magnificent scent as alive, deep, and soulful. I so agree with these comments. I have many fragrances that I love wearing but there are some that I connect with on a deep emotional level. Incense Rose is one of those scents. Undoubtedly it is a beautiful creation, perfectly blended and masterfully executed but as in true work of art, there is so much more to this perfume than just a perfect composition. The scent is vibrant and alive. It sings its dark story in mesmerizing and deep voice created by the sensual rose and divine essence of incense and myrrh. When I wear it I want to be completely alone with this beautiful scent, so I can close my eyes, light the candles and listen to a haunting melody played on kanun. The world with its never-ending worries can drift away while I am with this divine scent. I love every stage of this scent. The opening is spicy, fresh and incense-y at the same time. The cardamom is absolutely lovely here. The scent is smooth despite its strong spicy notes. Overtime it develops into a beautiful and gentle rose layered on incense. The rich base notes still carry echoes of the rose and gorgeous layers of myrrh, labdanum and resins with light hints of patchouli and cedar. The base notes last and last for hours. In its final stage the scent transforms into light but gorgeous myrrh. The sillage is medium (perfect in this case in my opinion) and the longevity is impressive (over 10 hours). Overall score 10/10. The scent is smooth, beautiful and much easier to wear than other oriental scents. I definitely recommend this scent for incense, myrrh and rose scent lovers. I got a full bottle after testing.

The composition of this one is super surprising—it's got a classic "three part" form, but it sort of loops, with early parts of the composition coming back later. I've been testing this for about three days now: The opening is this really surprising rose-citrus accord, where the rose is more on the "jammy" end and there's some fresh spice (cardamom?) coming through. As it dries down, the rose comes out more, with incense coming out last. It's a lemony incense—less like incense smoke and more like sticking your nose into a container of unburnt frankincense crystals. As the day goes on and the temperature/humidity changes, the surprising citrus-rose-spice accord comes back. There are moments where I can smell the whole thing at once, like the overlapping part of a "figure 8" diagram. The citrus in this is definitely sweet, but I wasn't able to identify it as a real fruit in the actual world; after reading the notes, I'm still not sure that I get "clementine." It's definitely a sweet-tart smell, but totally unearthly and dark—more like blood oranges or something. As it starts to dry down, it gives my skin a light hot/tingling sensation, like Tiger Balm. Weird but pleasurable. This is definitely unisex and, to me, extremely versatile between seasons and temperatures. It lasts FOREVER, but doesn't project very hard. Not a safe blind buy given the price and the originality of the composition—I've never smelled anything like this one before. Great, but do try it first.

Dense cardamom and fresh fruity rose over warm woody resins Lovely opening, really top end perfumery, heaps of cardamom oil, a fresh rose accord with sweet citrus inflections. Underneath a big naturalistic looming incense note similar to incense extreme. Surprisingly in both Tauer incense offerings, not much smokiness, focusing more so on the clean and expansive resinous qualities of frankincense, complemented by some myrrh in the base. There certainly is castoreum in this composition, which to me has always reminded me of the smell of bitters. In this case it feels perfectly dialed in, almost like the center of gravity of the rose accord, reminiscent of the carnal aspects of a deep red rose. I believe the myrrh is used here to bring warmth and darkness to the formula, adding a certain resinous density. After it settles down, I start feeling the woods emerge, vetiver mostly, the rosy castoreum myrrh accord still present in the forefront. Ambery Taueraid in the base, slightly mulled wine-like effect in the distant dry down. Overall very unique, dense, sweet and sensual. Possibly the most unexpected iteration of rose and incense I have sampled so far. Absolutely unisex (it is only labelled as a women's perfume here, everywhere else it is considered unisex and rightfully so). I am actually considering buying a bottle, a positive surprise.

First and foremost is incense. Clear, pure, incense of the best variety. Dry rose and dry vetiver makes it feel like the hot middle earner desert, with a breeze and shade nearby. It's like a more robust L'Artisan CDVS with emphasis on rose. The blend, quality of notes and execution is masterful. It smells like something sacred, reserved for holy days and very special occasions. Because I find it absolutely irresistible I don't follow this protocol, I enjoy it for myself while at home. It's the kind of scent I like to sit with and appreciate its calm, rested beauty. I cant imagine wearing it out with jeans and sneakers. Attention to detail and a bit of glamour would do Incense Rose well. For one reason or another it has never been on my immediate to-buy list (due to cost, let's be real). I've emptied many samples over many years and the last one is on it's way to empty now. I long for it again and again which is a sign of true love for me. I don't know if I'll ever own a full bottle, but it's a scent that will last with me regardless. Every nuance, every layer is embedded in my memory like a blueprint. Some fragrances leave a lasting impression and this certainly is one of them. Longevity: 8-10 hours, easy. Projection: above average, strong stuff so should be sprayed modestly. Quality: Top notch

Looking back, I realize that Luckyscent's samples are often woefully inadequate in helping me make decisions, Incense Rose being a case in point. I have owned a full bottle of Incense Rose for many years, I loved the tiny sample I had and so deemed it instantly FB worthy. However, I wear it very, very seldom, because on my skin Incense Rose is cold and totally UN-sweet. Its as though Mr Tauer took the least sweet and juicy bits of a rose and then made it even less sweet and juicy by adding incense and cardamom. I LOVE roses, incense and cardamom, but honestly, I didn't realize they could be quite so dry. I really wish there was something sweet in Incense Rose! Although I completely agree with Sherapop, below, who deems it "seamless", and I also get that its a fabulously well-made scent, I am -alas! -cursed with sweet annihilating skin (ie, Mugler's Angel is not sweet at ALL on me!). In and of itself, Incense Rose is a lovely scent, very elegant. I enjoy smelling it "around" as a room/linen scent, but as a perfume worn on skin, it doesn't suit me at all. I often hear people make superior-sounding, sweeping statements about how they "hate sweet, girly perfumes" and so forth. Well, you know what? Have I got a totally UN-sweet, non-girly, dry and lovely perfume for YOU!

What a stunner! I love woods, resins, balsamics, heavy orientals, incense scents and I have POAL, TF Sahara Noir, Heeley Cardinal and Guerlain's Encens Mythique--and I was sort of expecting a riff like POAL. Wrong. I think for comparison that this one just can't be. It has everything I love: woods, resins, acrid bitterness, amber, a touch of rose, a touch of incense, and is very light, effervescent with the bergamot, clementine and elemi (though not listed and may be the frankincense). Virtually every note above is detectable though some more than others. The cedar (Love!) mixes with the vetiver and myrrh; patch appears in the background with the amber sweetening all the notes -- very lightly...This is not a sweet fragrance on my skin which amplifies honey syrupy scents. The spicy cardamom makes an immediate appearance with a lemony lift along with frankincense. I find this unusual and one to add to my "incense" collection. I find it less of an incense, more of a spicy-wood resin, a hint of rose floral. The facets of an actual rose are amplified (the peppery accords, the lemony-"elemi" bits, with a breath of sweet and wood)--but it's not a "ROSE" perfume to me. I love POAL but I'm going FB on this one too. A definite try if you like this profile!

Oh how I love this fragrance. This is perfect for me as I am going through the winter transition of dark, resinous , spicy and smoky fragrances I so adore. I feel I can wear this through the spring time and on summer nights. The rose is done soooo beautifully, the most beautiful rose incense mix next to incense oud by kilian. It has that strong tauer vibe in the beginning and morphs into a gem. This fragrance is way underrated. The beginning as in (first half hour) is strong and has like a LDDM vibe with rose but after that....oh what a mouth watering composition. Now with that said, this is really a bargain fragrance as the longevity is up there with black afgano and beastmode scents of that nature. A little goes a long way. This is a fragrance you must spray on skin as it mixes with chemistry and morphs that way. 2 sprays max will get you all through the day and night so this is a commitment. Puts me in such a great mood. If you have a chance, look at my collection and make sure we have a common nose. You should do that with anyone's comment you take seriously or persueades you to get a sample. It's like a portfolio for a tattoo artist or photographer. Scent 9.5/10 Longevity 10/10 Projection 8/10 Quality 9.5/10 Overall 9/10

Incense Rose has been blended so well that its very hard to discern any notes. All of its notes combine to create two accords. Which are Incense, & Rose. Overall, what it smells like is fresh hand rolled Rose Incense. Which can come as a shock to the senses because fresh Incense are extremely Heady. Except with Incense Rose its Heady without being heavy. First, you will not smell Cola nor Root Beer as others have suggested. You'll smell fresh Citric Rose Petals. You'll smell Rose Pistils, which are Musky. You'll also smell Rose Sepals, which are Leafy Green, along with Earthy Green Rose Stems. Its very photo realistic. The notes that go into enhancing the Incense note make it dry, dusty, woody, sour, lightly spiced, & all so very pungent. Again, its pungent, its heady, but its not heavy. Its light & airy. Its not a dark fragrance. Its not excessively sweet or syrupy. Nor is it smoky or ashy. It smells of freshly rolled unburned Rose Incense. Its such a beautiful Incense fragrance. However, because its so pungent, its not blind buy safe. It doesn't smell like your typical Incense & Rose combo. You'll want to order a sample & take your time getting used to this beauty.

Another hit for me from Andy! Read some reviews here, interesting, I understand some saying it’s like Coca Cola. Though it’s not accurate maybe it’s like a faint Root Beer. Either way it’s not really an accurate description - this is in a nutshell an as advertised product. The reality is this is a delicate scent supremely crafted. Strong performance in longevity and not a slap in everyone’s face sillage but it definitely thumps away in the back ground. A bright fresh and crisp slightly piquant pink rose petal, just juiced, the petals bleedingwith a light sweet and sour (more so sweet) dusty body that’s then exaggerated by beautifully blended and smooth incense. Completely linear - no journey here for about 3 hours, then the incense says “don’t forget me!” And starts to take a more dominant position. 6 hours in and a slight animatic muskiness pops up. A fresh laundry scent that’s not generic and taking it to the next level would be a cruel and harsh way to describe it. It’s contradictory presentation as delicate and yet strong is classic Tauer. Probably the most unique rose scent (make no mistake this is rose forward) I’ve smelled in a while. Just beautiful!

The first time I smelled this, at Les Scenteurs in London, it was instant love. I had to have it. It was like an addiction. Even now, as I wear it again over 15 years later, I feel happy just smelling it. It's so unique. Aromatic, floral, resinous oriental, a bit of citrus but also - loud? Sexy, with an edge of... church? It's potent. People will smell you from across the room. And you will smell like a sacristy crossed with a nightclub, and I'm just fine with that. It opens very resinous - lots of myrrh and incense with strong cedar and spicy cardamom. Within a few minutes the clementine and bergamot kick in with a bit of rose, sweetening the mixture. The amber, orris, vetiver, and castoreum are last to waft in, giving the sweet-citrus-incense an earthier sexier edge, mellowing the edges but somehow keeping the volume up at 11. So yup, it's intense - and I can see why it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I've put it in my top 5. I don't have anything else quite like it in my large collection. I'm not sure the name really suits this fragrance. The rose is a footnote. "Incense Clementine" maybe. Or "You Can't Say That in Church?" Anyway, it's great. 5 stars.

This is an amazing (and surprising) scent. I have a great fondness for classic cyphres and this one does not disappoint. It does open with an odd sweetness, cola or "root beer" soft drink. There's also a sharp, soapy (but gentle) floral whisper that's present as well. That opening fades quickly. When it relaxes and warms up, I pick up an amazing scent memory of sitting outside at a cafe in New Mexico (desert southwestern US) with the desert in bloom and chimneas burning pinon logs. This desert "wood" smell is gorgeous on my skin. Cedar and vetiver are present, but instead of being sharp it's warm and comforting. There's a bit of cinnamon and anise (likely the cardamom) I'm picking up as well, something that I love about the now discontinued L De Lolita Lempicka. To my nose it's "holiday cookies". It's definitely not going to suit everyone, particularly if you are looking for something more floral and feminine. It's definitely unisex (which I appreciate). I'm not picking up much rose at all, but I'm not disappointed. Tested from a sample. I might have to treat myself to a FB because it's such a warm and comforting fragrance.

It's always great to journey your way into the world of fragrances hoping that there will be those fragrances that will impress or surprise you. For some reason, my nose doesn't appreciate most fragrances, which perhaps is a blessing, as at least it means I don't have to buy too many fragrances. It took some time until I finally sampled Incense Rose, and I was blown away. It is extremely rare to find fragrances that are enjoyable throughout it's entire lifecycle, and no one did it for me like Incense Rose. I do enjoy notes like incense and rose, so that plays a part, and together with a long lasting and a beautiful Clementine blended with the other notes, this is absolutely incredible. Starts effervescent thanks to the clementine, carried by rose to an incense that I can not get my nose away from (the drydown perhaps strangely reaches unburnt frankincense territory with marine like qualities and some sweetness, which I find strange as I could get some burning incense qualities in the mids). If you like incense rose, there is a good chance you'll also enjoy Orange Star also from Tauer as there is overlap at the top.

WOW ! As a middle aged guy and a relative 'fragrance newbie' this completely blew me away :-) It is the first Andy Tauer scent I tried, and even having tried a number of others since, it remains my favourite. If you had had told me this was from some 'grand maison' older perfume house I would have believed it. This is what I think of as a perfume, not some 'transparent' mainststream 'designer' mens' cologne. It has depth and body. In my view, it is truly unisex and could equally be worn by a confident woman or man. It has good projection and sillage and good longevity on my skin. Eveyone who has smelt it has been positive about the scent. It is not a 'pretty' or ultra feminine floral rose. Rather it is a complex 'accord' of a 'jammy' rose with some orange/citrus notes, atop a wonderful resinous incense accord. Neither dominates and they just 'chime' beautifully. Despite having substance or depth it is not heavy and has a refreshing brightness along with a great resinous quality. It is 'vivaldi'and works even in the summer heat. I LOVE it. First time spraying this, it reminded me of swedish "glögg" (a swedish version of gluhwein) and clementines. I thought it was amazing but I also thought that I didn ́t want go around smelling like that. But the dry down lured it ́s way into my heart. On me, it ́s warm and happy and really long lasting. Spices and clementines and a bit of roses. It ́s not my all time favorite, but it might be the one I actually uses the most. On me, it works all seasons and all times of day. It ́s not smokey or heavy on the roses on my skin. (I ́m not a big fan of roses in perfumes although this one made me think there might be more examples out there that I would appreciate.) It ́s just amazing and beautiful and one of few scents that rendered compliments. Uppdate: I do not recommend you to wear it alongside fairly newly painted nails: I wore this the day after painting my nails and a colleague of mine asked me if I had just used nail polish... Of some strange reason Incense Rose seems to amplify the bad sides of nail polish.

This completely took me by surprise. To my nose, it doesn't smell that smoky. Nor does it scream rose. In fact I found this to be a predominantly fresh, spicy resin scent in which the clementine, castorem and rose collide to create a tangy, effervescent sweetness. It almost reminds me of cracking open a can of Coca-Cola; the initial burst is sharp, fizzy and intense. Later a dry, somber rose and patchouli become more prominent, and things take on a boozier quality, like spicy mulled wine. I did detect a pinch of smokiness, but not the dark, opulent Eastern harem scent one might expect from a perfume called "Incense Rose". One thing that makes it less enjoyable for me is the labdanum. If you're sensitive to this note like I am, you may want to avoid this one, as the distinctive sharp, tangy quality of the labdanum resin is very strong in the dry down. Otherwise this is a bold, unique, charismatic and quite modern smelling fragrance that is totally unisex.

After so much anticipation, I am very surprised at how this smells. I have been layering Rose flash and Incense flash and thought Incense Rosé might smell like that combination but it does not at all. Neither the rose nor the incense smell as they do in the Tauerville scents. This is far more citrusy than I was expecting, and the sweet orange note lasts right through the scent's evolution. Next surprise is that the incense is not cold but darkly resinous, almost sticky. And then the rose is blended rather than singing its juicy, spicy, jammy solo. I would never have named this Incense Rosé. Firstly, neither of the notes appear quite as I am used to them and secondly, it makes this sound like a two act scent when there is clearly much more going on. This is fruity, ambery, spicy and resinous. It is very good indeed and going into my definitely maybe category. I still need to spend some time living with it. That's a good thing.

Incense Rose is an intoxicating perfume. It rises from your skin in the same way that incense burns upward into a thin smoky trail. The opening is fresh floral and dark smoke, followed by a stunning middle where spices start to appear, a gourmand-like cardamon swirling gently with black pepper. The projection, silage and longevity of Incense Rose is pretty remarkable - incredibly strong and lasting. This is not a dainty flower-water, it is a real perfume experience like the eau de parfums of years past. This is one of those rare fragrances that feels like a classic despite the fact that it's only a few years old. It has the depth of a complex character, not really belonging to any geographic place, but a place in time - something ancient. You can almost see heaps of leathery rose petals being thrown over a pile of smoldering incense in Baku or Bukhara. If you close your eyes, you are transported.

A love at first sniff. It opens up very fresh and fruity with rose and clementine, and as it dries down it deepens and gradually becomes more incensy and spicy. That's when to me it smells almost exactly like the natural rose incense I bought in Málaga, Spain with some added freshness. However, I can only smell the incense notes on my skin, on clothes and paper it remains fruity and fuzzy. I think you can wear it all year round, but for me it evokes late summertime memories. True unisex, leaning maybe only slightly more feminine. This is the only Tauer that I've tested that really lasts long and performs well on my skin. It's also very joyous and different from everything else this house offers, I find that all the other fragrances smell kind of similar, pleasant, but a bit like an expensive hotel shampoos. This one is truly unique.

Incense Rose is a stunner...Quality ingredients, masterly blending. I can smell everything that is listed in this perfume, but nothing dominates where it shouldn't , nothing is unsubtle or harsh. I didn't experience a predominance of cardamom at any stage (but then, I'm very fond of cardamom); nor did I find the incense facet remotely reminiscent of a head shop, though it is an eastern-leaning incense. This could have been blended to my own specifications---it's that much in line with my tastes. A shimmering delight of crushed rose, incense, spice, wood...red velvet in a bottle. It develops nicely on the skin without changing character markedly, wears fairly close, and lasts a decent time as well, even overnight. I found this to be a real treasure---it's seductive, and yes, soulful. Highly recommended...

This is a truly beautiful perfume, a work of art. I've sought an incense based perfume that captured a resonant and resinous intensity while playing with sweetness and floral freshness for years and this is the perfect example. I imagine the ancient Kings and Queens of the near east wore things which smelt like this and I imagine their temples and palaces were redolent of these seductive and powerful smells. The rose is subtle and green, rather than powdery and old ladyish, more like something one comes across in the Souks of Damascus than the boutiques of Paris. The incense is that same formula I imagine was once used in Haghia Sophia when the Byzantine Emperor's lead the faithful in their orations. Sublime, transporting, and unique, this is a must have for me and for anyone who enjoys incense.

This one is amazing to me personally. It doesn't have much incense but it smells like if you'd make a marmelade out of dark rose and clementines and lay it on a bed of resins. Clementines supply a strong amount of sweetness which I assume is the note that create this fragrance more jammy. It's definitely unisex and I think I'd wear it as a man. You should definitely test it on your skin and not paper though. On paper it comes off much more sweet and annoying, on skin it's actually great and just right. Projection on this one is unfortunately about 1 hour but longevity is quite good. 8-10 hours. I think I'm gonna buy it one day but would truly encourage the perfumer to improve the projection because the fragrance smells great, but it's too bad people won't be able to smell it around you. 9/10

A cold kulfi smoke, without anything milky or sugary or directly edible-- just the vapor, which is rich enough to make one wonder if it is possible to live on scent. Veils warm skin nicely without losing its icy-powdery-vapory texture, soft but assertive. Not conventionally churchy, unless the church is a walk-in freezer packed with rose cardamom desserts that are forbidden to consume. I can "see" where the notes fit into the scent composition (the twangy, phenolic Texas cedar + cardamom combine to give the impression of smoke without heat, for example, or the orris lending an inedible sweetness), but the notes morph into something more than their sum. Transubstantiative while also approachable and, well, delicious. Mystic kulfi!

It's been a year since I first bought/loved Incense Rose, so it's time for an update. In brief: I am not a jot less enchanted. It is so nice to have a mystical scent which is not heavy, but is light-footed, yet earnest. It also seems worth reporting the assessment of a "perfume muggle" who smelled my wrist: "like a juicy mandarin with something herbal and something else." Funny how if you don't know myrrh, you can't place your finger on the myrrh, if you don't know rose, you might not call the note here a rose, but the mandarin beams through in high definition. The "herbal" note the muggle deemed on further consideration to be frankincense. I never need more than a single spray.

Incense Rose by Andy Tauer has got to be one of the best rose fragrances I have ever smelled and I truly mean that. This fragrance is like a liquid dream. It opens smelling of sweet green grass with cardamom and Clementine. Baby soft rose petals rain in smelling like they just bloomed to life. Syrupy-sweet resins and myrrh blend smoothly into a glittering cloud of smoky incense. This is definitely a potent scent, which I love because it lasts such a long time and gets me lots of compliments every time I wear it! It is absolutely beautiful, I will definitely be re-purchasing when I run out.

This is a fun, fizzy, light-hearted rose. I don't know why, and I am certain this is completely random and not remotely the perfume's doing, but I envision Tang when I first smell this perfume. The big, cylindrical container that mom would scoop from to make what was ultimately a wretched yet glorious synthetic liquid crack. That vision or association just pops into my head. However, this is a very sophisticated perfume with an effervescent feel. I wear it in the spring, when the sun is shining and the birds are chirping. It's a great perfume to lift the spirits and brighten the day.

So Beautiful. I wear it everyday, not because I want to but because I HAVE TO. It's always interesting. Mysterious. So so beautiful. My favorite perfume ever, by a longshot. I find it ultrafeminine, but maybe that's just because I love it so much and I'm female. I really can't name notes, except to say that the incense is there and the rose is there, but this fragrance transcends both. And I love that the drydown doesn't smell like a rabbit hutch (cedar) on me, like most other perfumes. This dries down to vanilla on my skin. A pretty and mysterious vanilla.

The name says it all Incense and Rose! First try I was a little overwhelmed but I now LOVE this scent, enough to buy a full bottle, yes it's expensive but I really feel Tauer scents are unique, they tell a story somehow and you can tell they are made with fine ingredients.The incense and the rose are blended beautifully and although a little loud on first application it settles to the most comforting, haunting smell.As others have said don't decide on first spray,wear it,let it grow on you and you won't want to let it go.

The opening of Incense Rose is fizzy, like an acidic but aromatic carbonated drink. To my nose, this is an incense dominant fragrance and the rose, though perceptible, is somehow overshadowed. The addition of castoreum makes the blend even bolder and I would say, sexier! You gotta be in the mood to enjoy it! Projects well in the first 2hrs and lasts for more than 8hrs on my skin (that’s 6 sprays around my neck). Personally, i believe this is one of Andy’s best creations! Indeed, a masterfully crafted work of art!👍🏼

Absolutely love how well-blended and unique this perfume is. You get what's on the label - incense and rose - but handled with a touch of the typical Tauer fizz that makes these two classic notes seem contemporary and exciting. The rose in particular comes across as red and juicy, just how I like it. The citrus isn't an easily identifiable orange or lemon; rather, it's really well-integrated in that it "lifts" the rose and incense notes to stop them getting too heavy or church-like. Bravo! Excellent longevity too.

I wish I tried this one before 05 incense by the same brand They are the same fragrance with a does of rose here As much as I love the incense in both fragrances but the rose here wasn’t as strong to my nose The incense is still overwhelming here which makes it seem as a mild flanker of 05 Performance is great The scents itself is excellent But if you had 05 by any chance you don’t need this one and the opposite applies if you have this one you don’t need number 05 from the same brand Chose one to enjoy and savor

Pure addiction and love from first sniff! It's a very fresh and mystical sent, which opens with the bubbly green freshness and then settles down with sweetness of rose, very intimate rose. As the other reviewers, I was tricked by the absence of rose from the start, neither could I sense it at the middle and even had to go and to check out the name of the fragrance again, yet that still pointing out to rose :-) But once it was all settle, a very gentle and mysterious rose appeared behind the incense. LOVE

To me it's a hot, red blooming rose with heavy castoreum tones. Castoreum with roses plays the first string, accompanied by clementines. I love that Tauer uses a lot of clementine in this perfume. This gives a sense of playfulness and does not allow the whole composition to lie on a heavy, very dusty base. Great perfume. But be careful if you have a difficult relationship with Castoreum. If you don't like it and animal "dirty" tones are unpleasant for you, the perfume will kill you, believe me.

Yowza! I don't usually like rose scents, but this... mmmm. The rose is properly subjugated here. This is a rustic, secluded cabin in the woods. A lover's retreat. So warm, rich, inviting, sexy! Absolute adoration at first sniff. I think I've found a token rose to round out my fragrance wardrobe. Best fragrance to wear canoodling with your honey by the fire on a cold winter night (or to attract an outdoorsy type with whom to canoodle). Entirely unisexy!

This is the first Tauer I'm testing and I have to say that I'm loving it so far. The rose is subtle and sweet, and the incense is bright, fiery and dry. I've been looking for rose incense scent that isn't too floral or powdery, and I think I've found the one. This its a truly gorgeous fragrance. I'm testing several other Tauer's next week, but for now this one goes on the short FB list.

I own a lot of rose based perfumes but none of them like Incense Rose. This is a remarkable perfume, a true original. I love wearing it and don't feel my words trying to describe it will do justice. It has the familiar Tauer DNA of incense, woods and spices. I feel beautiful when I wear this, thank you Andy Tauer. I am in awe of your talent!

LOVE. love love love. I think Tauer might be my new favourite. Both this and Maroc for her smell to me like perfume ought! This one is mysterious, dark, like I imagine the gifts of the magi may have been fragranced. It smells precious. Best of all, on my dry, scent killing skin, this is pretty long lasting

I have a lot of rose frags but this one is EXCEPTIONAL! Such beautiful mix of spice and rose..not cloying, not sweet, not heavy but has a magnificent presence. I get the Coca Cola thing people say..It's faint and it doesn't bother me. This is an addictive perfume for rose and incense lovers.

Have a decant of this, as well as decants of several other incense frags. This is my fav. It's somewhat "churchy" and it's beautifully blended. Also love layering this - mostly with a rose or an orange. Today it's w/Houbigant Orangers En Fleurs. Yum! Beautifully unisex and delicious!

Despite strongly perceiving citruses and aldehydes, it presents a striking contrast as a very dark and authentic incense–rose interpretation. I can hardly describe it; it smells like rose incense burned alongside a campfire in a dark, cold forest. Otherworldly and calming

am not into rose perfumes at all, but this is the best cold incense + realistic rose i ́ve ever smelled .... hi-quality ingredients, refined, classy! 10/10 to me (and am a big critique almost of every perfume)

I love this! I need it. I almost didn't try it because I've never liked any fragrances with myrrh notes. But it was in the sample set with other things I wanted so I gave it a try, and I'm so glad I did!

Green frankincense, cardamom, and bitter clementine rind, rose in the background. Fresh smokiness, perfectly suited for spring and summer. A little peculiar, definitely artsy, beautiful and harmonious.
