Sotto La Luna Tuberose

This is by far the most interesting tuberose I know. Saying this will be controversal, but I like Sotto La Luna Tuberose better than Carnal Flower, not because it is more beautiful per se, but because it has so much character. Sotto La Luna Tuberose starts off with two very distinct notes; one is a sandstorm of dry, dry spices, the other is a lazy tuberose lounging in the background. After some time, the sandstorm catches up on the tuberose, whirls it around and almost destroys it. At this stage, this perfume is not pleasant at all. To me, it smells like this: a very fruity, bubblygummy chewing gum that fell on a dusty floor, that I picked up and put in my mouth again. The thing is, that even at its most unpleasant point, this fragrance remains interesting. While I do not think that these spices and the tuberose harmonise - ever - at all, what comes after is beautiful. As soon as all the dust has settled down, which will last about two hours, what you get is a clear-cut, wonderful tuberose in multiple stages. At first it's a green flower that has developed the core characteristics of its profile, but smells almost coy given her nature. Within the next hours, it turns into a self-confident, meaty, intoxicating beauty - at this point this is hands down the best tuberose I have ever smelt - that ripens more and more until it's all creamy, buttery and indolent. Just when it is on the cusp of rotting, it becomes lighter and lighter and melts into nothingness. Sotto La Luna Tuberose is a unisex fragrance that might be best for people with experience and maybe an age from 30 onwards. It is a very experimental, fun fragrance; one of the kind that you do not wear for others. With 12 hours+, it has an insane longevity and the sillage is also huge, as two spritzes of this juice filled my whole apartment for a day. While it is probably the least blind-buy-save fragrance I have ever encountered, to me this is a complete "love" and I recommed every tuberose-lover to sample it. Even it you won't like it, its very worth the experience. Also, I would really like for Mr. Tauer to continue his Sotto La Luna series. There are many flowers that come to mind that would fit perfectly into this concept. TL;DR: perfect tuberose in a sandstorm

With every sniff of Tuberose Sotto la Luna a physiological 'aaaaaaah' of pleasure escapes me. I feel like my feet are in a green, flowery and nocturnal garden. Around me, the open and fresh air is pleasant on a late spring night. Now many fragrant petals arrive. A genuine and unchaste breath keeps me awake by caressing my sense of smell. I find it very portable or at least there is something that fits me a lot. It is elegant with a persistence that accompanies you until dawn. At first I got a weird snout. The Tauers say they are complicated. At least for me who has recently entered this world, certainly. Yet I'm always coming back. I read a lot of negative comments, mold and worst miasma felt in the comments on it. I wonder if I have smelled the same Tuberose Sotto la Luna. From this square we declares amber, while Tauer specifies that he used 'dark ambergris', not amber, which also intrigues me a lot on this animalic note.

Tuberose on incense. It’s amazing how the superposition works in this perfume, like a book, one page tuberose, next page incense, one page tuberose and so on until a whole novel is written. It’s hard to describe it, but what Tauer is easy... It’s creamy and in the same time green and sweet but not indolic, it’s airy and in the same time present and deep. This is not Fracas or Poison, it can be a tuberose almost for those not fully into tuberose but in the same time I think one needs to like and know other tuberoses to come to appreciate fully the depth and complexity of this one. For me it’s a superb one and more complex when I compare with the wonderful but more gourmand and sweet Sotto la Luna Gardenia.

One of Tauer's easiest-to-wear-anytime-anywhere frags. I don't like super-sweet, strong white flower scents, and thought that (if anyone could do it) he could put together a fragrance that offers a fresh take on the cloyingly sweet note of tuberose. If you're looking for tuberose nirvana, you won't find it here; Tauer's spices and earthy base notes bring this sweet note down to earth.An elegant, understated addition to his marvelously creative repertoire. Perfectly unisex, leaning ever-so slightly masculine as it develops.

One of those many-faced fragrances that can smell very different depending on the day and that develop in distinct stages. Wear it if complexity and development are your thing - you'll be smelling your wrist a lot. The top is strong white flowers, with a definite undercurrent of fresh laundry - if you've ever experienced the smell of starched linen, this is it. It's also strongly reminiscent of paper. Some 4 hours into wearing it I noticed that it turned very inky - I use several fountain pens on a daily basis and I thought one of them must've leaked, that's how intense the inkyness got. It's one of my favourite smells in the world - heavy and slightly sweet, almost vanilla-like - and in this fragrance I think it comes from the combo of jasmine with the patchouli that really comes out later on. The drydown is uneventful but really pleasant - slightly sweet and powdery. On some days I think I can smell some iso e-super on it.

This one surprised me quite a bit. When I first smelled it I thought “ahh, so that’s what an indolic tuberose smells like”. I left the sample on the coffee table, (occasionally picking it up and ultimately unable to decide if I liked its dusty spice and galbanum edge) when I hear that my power-lifting, steroid pumping, ginormous hulk of a little brother had worn it out last night and had received mountains of compliments and enjoyed it more than anything else I’d given him to try. Go figure. I think everyone should own a white floral, they are always popular and always suitable. Yes this one is a little rough around the edges, but it’s still a white floral and carries noticeably soft notes at its heart. I doubt he’ll buy it but it was fun to discover that such a feminine note like tuberose could be made to appeal to someone very, very masculine.

a very dry tuberose that has a hint of a gardenia flavor without being sweet; the jasmine and ylang are detectable. It has the Tauer base that is herbal, smokey and almost incense. This gets dryer and dryer like a Chardonnay. I do not get clove and cinnamon in this. I like the description below of dust. YES! It smells like dust when I brush the dirt out of my horse after he rolled. That said, I like it. It's okay for me. I wouldn't buy a full bottle though I love Tauer. This along with Lonesome Rider and Vetiver Dance are the three that I don't lust. AMENDMENT: Hours into it, I love this. It is the creamy sweet Tauer Tuberose that you expect. The dry/herbal nature is gone. Yes, it's like a softer, powdery, less sweet version of Tuberose Flash or similar to the drydown of Noontide Petals. This is a definite like for me.

Simple, elegant tuberose. It definitely smells like a soliflore to me. The flower is lush but soft and creamy with a touch of spice. I'm amazed at the wildly different reviews, because to my nose this is a crowd pleaser. It's "easier" on the nose than Sotto la Luna Gardenia (which I also love), and therefore easy to wear. I deeply hope Hr. Tauer continues this series. EDIT: At the one hour mark, the sillage became a warm spiced chai. The tuberose remained on the skin for another two hours before the entire scent turned into pure Tauerade. As for the Sotto la Luna series as a whole: If you want weird and unique, go for Gardenia. If you want smooth and elegant, go for Tuberose.

Sometimes a fragrance is more of an experience than something you can describe in notes, so with this, I'll "paint a picture": Spring has sprung and you're out enjoying a sunny day, walking down a sidewalk full of boutiques. The balmy air smells like flowers just bursting, and the leaves budding from trees are that new electric green. The open door of a dimly-lit head-shop exhales incense and patchouli as you pass by. The shop next door is also open, and out wafts the oat-creamy smell of artisan soaps. Eclectic hand-made jewelry sparkles in the window.

Starts off very sharp and dusty with a lot of cloves, cinnamon and tuberose. Has that definite and unmistakable Tauer's DNA and ever-present boldness. Then the cloves start to dominate for some time, while the fragrance rounds up and becomes smoother. No need to talk about the performance, as always with Tauer's perfumes you will be notices from far away and for a long time. As a spicy, floral and powdery scent, I think it's better suitable for women, I don't see myself wearing this in public. Likable, good addition to Andy's family of fragrances.

This is beautiful and very long lasting,not at all screechy but I have and love the Gardenia from this range and it smells very similar to that so I can't justify having the two.

This perfume is a stripped version of a tuberose. Much less florid and more masculine than many of the famous tuberose perfumes. The vegetal aspects and darker base notes are equally as strong as the tuberose itself, which is rare to find in a perfume with tuberose in its name. This cuts a lot of the cloyingly sweet aspect of the tuberose but in turn reduces the feminine feeling sweet humidity many tuberose perfumes have. It’s a dry tuberose, lurking about in the shadows. It smells to me as though someone had taken a freshly cut tuberose and combined it with some herbaceous greens, then placed that bouquet in an old musty wooden garage full of car parts and the faded scent of motor oil. If anything, over time these darker aspects strengthen on the skin and the tuberose diminishes in potency even more. It eventually becomes almost a powdery skin scent with no florality in it at all. This is after about ten hours- so it has amazing life on the skin. I think it’s an interesting exercise in perfumery, since it must be a difficult thing to achieve to put a lid on tuberose but still have it be present. For myself though I prefer the simpler, more floral type of tuberose- loud, bombastic. Super sweet and proud of it.

Blech! OML. Because I just discovered Incense Rose (heart!), I ordered it in a Traveler set with two other promising candidates (all are great), and received a complimentary pack with this "Tuberose" (before I go on Andy Tauer has excellent customer service with signed cards, fast delivery, really great experience). But back to this frightful horror. I rarely--if ever--scrub. I'm a determined "sniffer"--and even if I don't love, I usually can like or "appreciate." This smells like damp moldy towels, old cigarette butts, earth, dust, mold, armpits, rank acrid bitterness. Add heaping doses of just awful industrial nastiness. I live in a port city, and we have the usual international shipments coming in/out, and there are nearby warehouses which hold fertilizer. Occasionally, on this toxic drive, as I'm struggling not to breathe in for 5 minutes, I will have to exhale, and, well, you know. This smells like that stretch of road. This is so awful I think I got a bad sample from his lab. I like mentholated. I don't get it here. I like tuberose POWER (give me some SL or Fracas or Carnal and a couple of others). I can handle sweet, and love spicy, woods, resins, ambers. NONE of the notes listed above in Fragrantica's description can I detect. It just smells so rank and bad I will be compelled to go to STC for a different sample just to compare. I can't believe people would wear this. I sprayed on a tester strip after spritzing myself down, and there, it smells like a crunchy green herbacious something. Not sure what. Better than my arms smell, but still absolutely unwearable. Be warned: do not blind buy but get a sample! Finally, it really may be a bad batch. The quality of his other perfumes I quite like, or, if I don't love them (like Lonestar or Lonesome) I at least like them very much with their typical Tauerade!

Andy Tauer and I seem to have very different ideas about tuberoses. I like my tuberose hypnotic, but fresh and creamy, and both Tauer tuberoses I tried (this and Tauerville Tuberose Flash) show tuberose in resinous, smokey and spicy surroundings. I think Sotto La Luna Tuberose is even more difficult for me than Tuberose Flash. They have their similarities, but they're not the same. Sotto La Luna Tuberose starts out straight up weird on my skin. At first it's green and bitter-prickly, and then it becomes something that I can't describe other than with this clumsy picture: Imagine the cold stone walls of a basement full of musty cardboxes filled with button mushrooms, but with a faint hint of a sweet tuberose perfume someone sprayed on all the boxes back in the 80s. It stays like that for hours. Surprisingly, I don't feel like I have to scrub it, but as you can imagine, I'm not a fan either. Over the time I smell some incense, and then it slowly becomes softer, warmer, more traditional floral and spicy. In the end, it calms down to buttery tuberose and dry cinnamon, which is nice enough. But nothing I would wait for 4 or 5 hours in a basement full of champignons. The lasting power is tremendous, the final phase lasts a whole day including the night on me.

Opening: unctuous tuberose and chocolate Mid: tuberose, camphor and cedar dust Base: oily camphorus dusty sweetness Best mood to wear in: a damp, cold day in a wool sweater by the fire, and I think it might suit a man better than a female Worst interpretation: could veer towards smelling like great grandma: mothballs, joint rub, dusty cedar chest, old perfume once elegant, free stale cookies, and fading memories. It smells like a horder. There is a camphorus oily note under the entire experience, and the sweetness grows, smelling like a snickerdoodle cookie. I don’t get spiciness of cinnamon or clove, at best I could say a cedar dust. The tuberose itself is cery nice, but not blended to my taste.

A potently sweet floral fragrance, like powdered honey, with green, subtly vegetal undertones. The combination of cloves and galbanum give this a piercing, almost metallic tang that I don't overly enjoy—particularly paired with the supple, intimate heaviness of the tuberose. The vibe: sitting in a humid greenhouse full of tuberose, snorting mock-orange pixy stix cut with a pinch of clove, and turning a huge pile of pennies into rolls.

This just smells off to me. Maybe my decant is off but I have never smelt a Tuberose this bad. I got it with along with decant of 'Tuberose in Blue'which is sublime.

WARNING: challenging. try before you buy. I think skin chemistry is bullshit until I tried this one. This is not designed for human skin to wear, at least not for mine. On paper, I got a rich opening full of details: a familiar sourness I still don't know where it came from, a vegetal galbanum, and a familiar dusty-powdery dry-tea-leaves-like tuberose natural extract, on an elegant, slightly fruity-sweet background (perhaps ylang?). Except all those promising notes, I also got a bit of noise, smell like metal lead powder. I ignored it, and applied it on hand, then Poof! All gone! The ONLY thing remains on my skin is that industrial metal lead powder smell. If you ever had the unfortunate walking into a mechanic factory unprotected, inhaling in the metallic dust floating in the air, you'll know what I mean. So I agree with reviews saying it smells like dust on a hot summer road. I once read another review about cloves, saying it's 'cold, metallic', I wonder if that's what I call "lead metal dust" here? Except for the metal powder, I also get whiff of mellow, (normal) powdery tone underneath, and it's getting...mellow-er and rooty-er? It's really hard to tell what it is, especially with lead metal powder plays a major role in the perfume, from beginning to end.

I had expected something called 'Sotto la luna' to be creamy and dreamy. However this starts with dry spices - lots of clove and cinnamon without anything to wet the edges; this is dry the way that L'air du désert marocain feels dry. Comparing the opening to the Sotto La Luna Gardenia and its sweet, boozy, almost fruity top notes, the two scents could not be more different! However, this dry, dusty note does settle down so that the tuberose can come through. Here, it does feel a little bit like the Tuberose Flash. At this point, it starts to feel more like a "normal" tuberose scent and that creamy, waxy side of the flower comes through. I'm not sure how I feel about this scent - it feels more like two different perfumes than one. I need to see how smooth I find that transition from dry spices to waxy floral... Jury is out.

This is a fresh tuberose & just been picked, as you can smell the roots, the grassy ground, the sand, the dust, the soil and everything related more than the tuberose itself in a full moon night on a grassy cliff in the mountains. This is a scenery, a portrait, a symphony! the more it cools down the more it settles well on skin as it goes quite dusty & creamy with mixed floral. It it similar to his gardenia but this one is a tuberose, it is to be honest the one that captivates me after allot of tests as this one and the gardenia didn't captivated me from the first sniff cause both are quite challenging so both needs time to get along with. I see this one and gardenia the best among his lines.

I had to review because there are so many negative reviews! Maybe I like this fragrance because I'm not a fan of tuberose in general, but it definitely smells like tuberose to me. Nothing dirty or musty about this fragrance. To me, it smells like a dry tuberose on a background of cloves and Jasmine. There isn't the extreme waxy, sweet note that I associate with pure tuberose and dislike. It starts off strongly dry with spices and dries down to a light tuberose and Amber base. I think this is fantastic. I love all of Andy Tauer's perfumes and I think this is definitely worth a try!

This is very beautiful to me, but I don't get any cinnamon, cloves or patchouli as listed in the notes. Nor do I really smell much of tuberose, just subtle, fleeting glimpses during the first hour then it dries down near identically to Tauer's Sotto La Luna Gardenia. The signature "Tauerade" is here in full force. It lasts and lasts and lasts, which is typical of Tauer fragrances, and the sillage is mighty. Since I already own and love the gardenia one, I do not need to have this one.

This must be the first Tauer fragrance I dislike. It's tuberose and dust, the kind of dust that raises off the road in a dry summer day and makes yellowish suffocating clouds.... it's a pity because the tuberose is chocking in this dust too... no creaminess that is so typical to this flower, no dew, no charm. I couldn't even wait for the development, maybe it would have gotten better later, normally I love cinnamon, but I scrubbed it off...

This is a very unusual and original fragrance. I feel a strong personality in this perfum. I agree it is better for women, even if spicy fragrance are very often good for men. The combination of cloves and tuberose makes the fragrance very sexy, sensual and attractive. Tuberose is the queen of sensuality for me. After some hours amber keeps the fragrance very sophisticated. Very good. I prefere for winter.

Sweet, buttery green tuberose sharpened by spice with a serrated edge. Turns creamy on the skin with nice projection and lasts all day, but the geranium sticks to the cuffs with a funny veggie side dish note. Pretty, but makes me crave fried chicken. I'll stay with Tuberose Flash.

Take a 2x4, rub some flowers on it, then leave it out in the sun, smash it to smithereens, and make a perfume out of it. SL Cedre is my preferred take on a smooth, elegant wood-leading tuberose floral.

I tested this today...all I got was boiled cabbage and melted Crayola crayons. Needless to say I won't be buying a full bottle. I mean no disrespect. It just didn't work for me.
