Fou D'Elle

17. July 2023 Not sure if many people reviewing this fragtance received a "gone bad" bottle, because my first enxounter with this fragrance was also not pleasant. I purchased an opened unboxed bottle based on the shape of the bottle(50ml with green lid), but fragrance itself did not impress me much. It was some sort of weird lotus-peach combo, which did not smell very nice or anything special. I still have that bottle, but never use it. Then i bought a bundle of perfumes and this Lapidus was also included again. 100ml unopened sealed bottle with red lid. I was not very excited about it based on previous bottle, but then i opened it and gave a try. Oh my!!! Completly different expereince this time! So yummy, fruty, juicy! I had to retest both bottles side by side and they indeed differ! My new bottle is like something Sophia Grojsman would create: its a mix of vintage Tresor, with Champagne, with Kashaya. All my favorite fragrances in one bottle!!! This is just crazy! Sooo happy. I smell a lot of peach, hyacint, some lotus... those are the main notes i smell. And i love it! I see what people are talking about, when they mention nail polish remover, there is a short moment, when you smell that in the opening, but one has to be very creative to think about nail polish remover, it is not that bad of acetone smell at all. It is best of floral-fruity from 90's, bottle is great, price is great as well. Just love it, and smells great in the heat. This is more a summer, than wintertime fragrance IMO. Love!

Definitely a vintage fragrance. On first spray out of the gate it is a blast of alcohol. But, wait for it, then a sweet yet dry hyacinth takes over. This is spring in a bottle. As the hyacinth settles, the peach comes forward but not in a fruity modern fruity-floral way, in the subtle orchard way of vintages tempered by freesia and rose. There is no candy or praline in this. It is not a gourmand by any stretch. As the peach settles, the rose takes over. This fragrance goes through a metamorphosis of spring. It is lovely, as most Lapidus are. But you have to have a vintage sensibility. The bottle is just incredible and unique especially at this price point. To answer another question here: no, the bottles are not different. They playfully made different color bases. The juice is the same. I have pink. If you love rose fragrances, you will love this one! In the final drydown, and I am talking about six hours in, all that's left is a creamy ambery vanilla that is more like tonka as well as a little whiff of wood that smells more like sandalwood than cedar.

I finally got it. I bought 1 oz bottle to be on the safe side, because i didnt't know what to expect.But this fragrance exceeded all my expectations. It comes out of the bottle really sharp, but settles almost right away ito a warm, refined and sexy scent. Yes, it is sweet, but in now way sticky sweet or cloying. I am not familiar with Nilang, but the closest thing i can compare it to is Narcisse by Chloe, but much more wearable. It is more suitable forcolder weather, but I would say it can be worn in spring too. And the bottle is so gorgeous. I really think this perfume is a beatiful creation, definitely full bottle worthy to me, after I run out. I am really in heaven....Can't stop sniffing my wrists. When I occasionally discover something like this, and for so inexpensive, It makes me wonder if all those trendy perfumes we pay crazy money for, are really worth the price tag.

Fresh and green in the first spray (lotus plus hyacinth). It stays like that for a while, and then rose, peach, and vanilla settle in. The mid phase is about delicate warm rose, not a realistic or direct one. The drydown is ambery, peachy, a bit powdery. I dont think the cedar wood is really there? Sandalwood probably, but not cedar. I smell praline after the mid phase, not prominent, mixed with the vanilla. The flacon is an art piece! Mine came with the orange (upside-down) cap. The frosted glass just made the entire look even more unique and impressive.

Ok, so about 200 bottles of different perfumes later, there is still something about this fragrance that always puts me in a good mood, some kind of warm comfort and an element of addiction. I am not into buying backup bottles, but I actually bought another large bottle before I even used up my 1 oz.

I am about to purchse it, and will post my review as soon as i get it. It was created by the same nose who created Nilang, so it very well may be similar.

Fou d’Elle – Ted Lapidus (1997 Yellow-First Edition Review) Box is stamped with 1997 Batch Code. Released in 1997, Fou d’Elle opened as a softly radiant floral (Spring in a bottle)—peach-lit, gently spiced, and grounded in a creamy praline-vanilla warmth that felt intimate rather than overtly sweet. The earliest edition (yellow base) presents the fragrance in its most complete form: a seamless blend of fruit, florals, and woods with a rounded, almost velvety finish. As production evolved into the early 2000s, the composition gradually shifted— becoming brighter (green base), then sweeter and more linear (pink base), with a noticeable reduction in depth of notes and textural richness as well as cutting glass and base quality. The green and pink versions retain the structure, but not the same fullness. Edition Guide: 💛1997 – Yellow base: creamy, blended, warm (original composition) heavier glass. 💚Late 1999-2002 – Green base: fresher, brighter, thinner base and flacon glass. 🩷Early–mid 2003-2006 – Pink base: sweeter, simplified notes. Very lightweight base and glass. Often mixed color bases depending on batch/market. Addendum – Légère Version: A lesser-documented Fou d’Elle Légère also circulated, offering a lighter, more transparent interpretation of the original—dialing back the praline warmth and emphasizing the airy floral and fresh facets. This version is notably absent from many databases but remains part of the fragrance’s extended lineage. Note: All first edition bottles had Yellow caps, BUT not all yellow capped bottles are first editions. This can only be confirmed by batch code numbers on box. 💛💚🩷

If ever there could be bliss in a bottle, this would have to be the scent of bliss! I do love this frag. I purchased a BIG bottle (blindly) for an excellent price, figuring if didn't like it I could decant it or even sell it, but it has become a part of my collection. This is the tame, more refined sister to my Chloe Narcisse-not so forward or overwhelming, much more demure and composed. The top notes I get from this are very much floral and bright-jasmine and freesia sweet and mellow. I have always like freesia, but in this mix it's not so "Honeyed" and thick, as freesia can be. This is a breezy, easy frag to wear. As it dries down I get the woody part of it, a very soft, wispy cedar scent-not a masculine cedar, though. The vanilla tends to warm it on my skin to a nice clean and soft powdery smell...I love that in a frag. Fou d'elle (Crazy about her, in French) is something to flip for, definitely. I will make sure that I always have it in my collection from here on...I have the EDT, but will next purchase an EDP if available. Main reason for that is sillage...the sillage on this is spotty. It does last all day (an 8 hour workday and then some...) but I only catch it occassionaly wafting through my cubicle. No one smelled it unless I asked them to sniff me, which, quite frankly is weird so I don't do that. I do love the smell of it though, I just don't like that I am not able to share the bliss with others...the world needs more bliss. I highly recommend this frag if you like things that make you smile and feel lighter. This frag will do that for you. I am crazy for Fou D'Elle!

I first bought this duty-free coming home from West Africa 15 years ago. It reminds me of wafting through the airport and the scent staying on my scarf. I keep buying it because it is a useful part of my perfume wardrobe. This may be a tricky fragrance for some because it has fruity, vanilla/gourmand, green notes and floral notes. The EDP smells great on me, but sometimes I have to give it a rest. It is a bit strong and reminds me structurally a bit of Tresor, not that it smells the same. However, it does share the peach, floral, vanilla and woods. Tresor has a nose "tickle" and powder note that Fou d'elle does not have. Fou d'elle smells like a cozier vanilla floral, like something you would want to smell on a sweater. The projection is medium, but I can smell this on me at close range all day. I do like it, but almost wish it were a candle or a home-type fragrance. When I use it I appreciate it from time to time, but it isn't my signature. Update: I spray this with Jessica Simpson's Fancy Nights. They balance each other out very well and create a staying power that won't quit.

Based on the reviews here, I ordered this for my 15 year old niece as a present for her upcoming birthday. It just arrived today, and, of course, I HAD to spray it once to smell it myself (with a bit of fear that I would like it and get greedy about it). I do like this, but it is also quite odd to my nose. The honest truth is that this smells like straight up nail polish remover! At least up front. And 30 minutes later, it still smells that way on the spot of fabric where I sprayed. When I BLOCK the idea of nail polish remover from my mind, I get a nice, clean, NEW MAGAZINE fragrance from it. It smells bright... and like... NEW STUFF... for a teenage girl. That exciting NEW "girl stuff"... the feeling you used to get as a teenager when you got a new magazine at a shop, or the mall, new makeup, or a new super cute outfit. I am not getting "candy" from this. Well, I take that back, I just picked up a strong whiff of watermelon jolly rancher upon sniffing again. Its light, fun, flirty, refreshing... I dont smell any vanilla or praline, but it's not on my skin, and it will likely unfold differently on skin rather than on fabric. I hope she likes it. UPDATE: Almost a year later, and I finally got myself a bottle of this because it haunted me for months after i got it for my niece. I guess I had to have it. Now, after wearing it daily, I still see exactly the same thing I described above, but its not TEEN AGE anymore to me. Its ... for sure...innocent and clean and ... simply lovely. I find it to be quite unique and never overpowering. A gentle ... yet... energetic... HApPY... lift. I love this one. Really simple... when you want to just smell GOOD. Uncomplicated, classy. Joyful.

Fruity Floral. Peachy cheeked powdery flirty rose, preceding the rosey Chloe line, which somehow is what it reminds me of. I can detect narcissus more than hyacinth, with a dash of warm cozy vanilla. I don't really detect cedar and not pepper (although I did sneeze), but there is a very soft spiced-woods note in the dry down. Thankfully not much freesia, as it is not a note for me. With a familiar note (sharpish but sweetish, white/golden, chalky/waxy/plasticcy clean florality) that I often sniff in certain perfumes (all from around 2000). Kenzo Flower, Oiellet Sauvage, Artemisia, With Love, Drole de Rose, Meteorites, Ylang & Vanille, to name only a few! It could be a salicylate, an ionone or even some kind of aldehyde, a musk or combination thereof! I have no idea. Just thinking that if you like this certain vintage, you are sure to love this. Very well crafted and pleasant to wear. Great bottle design. Every one with a surprise bottom (into which the smooth frosted glass bottle sits upside-down). My bottle arrived with a yellow one! which was grand, it's my favourite colour. Your's might be pink, or green.

It's a happy sweet candy-like summer fragrance to me. i like it very much, as I do all Ted Lapidus frags. I had to part with the Fantasme because DH hated it but otherwise I am able to keep the other ones:) They are all different, I would say the Creation that I have is a soapy sophisticated 1980s-type and Fou d'Elle is the opposite, light and playful young scent. I enjoy it every time and the staying power is pretty good. I got it in a swap, don't remember from whom anymore, but thank you, whoever you are:) Since I have lots of frags now in my collection and like to give a chance to all of them I don't wear this one very often but it is a pleasure every time. Happiness and sunshine and lollipops in a bottle.

The brand and bottle causing my eye. Love Rumba (one of my favourite perfumes of all time) so thought I would give this a try as I love the pop arty bottle concept. Looking at the notes this isn’t what I expected. It’s very strong and quite mature. It’s also very sweet. Silage gives of Giorgio Beverly Hills vibes. It’s a keeper for me. Not crowd pleasing but I really like it.

As a perfume addict,I wanted to enrich my collection in buying Fou d'elle.I was amazed by the packaging and the ludicrous bottle,but the fragrance itself let me down.I couldn't distinct any note of this "juice",neither praline,nor freesia,nothing at all.

This perfume does seem to share some notes with Nilang from Lalique (Thank YOU very much Kastehelmi for THAT one!!). I should try it, because I love Nilang!! Action

Cheap smelling sticky juice. It's inexpensive so I bought it without much thought. Now I regret this decision. Better to save your pennies and buy something tasty.
