China Musk

I've been searching for this and didn't know it! Smells like my beloved "rich musk" Clere body lotion. Hooray!

(Note: I use Body Time's version of China Musk. I don't see it here on Fragrantica but it happens to be the same formulation as Terra Nova's, so I'll review it here.) In order to understand where China Musk is coming from, you must first experience China Rain, which is the superior fragrance. China Rain is a sharp, magical, musky floral that is stunningly clean and pure. China Musk is basically China Rain with one modification: the vanilla element. In my opinion the vanilla drags the scent down from its "brilliant" pedestal to a "pretty good" plateau. It gives it unneeded weight and makes it a bit cloying. Oh it's still wonderful. It simply doesn't knock it sqarely out of the park like China Rain. But like China Rain it's a very high quality product. The longevity and throw can't be beat.

Just a heads up:the Saunders have retired, after 50 years Terranova oils are no longer in production. You can’t order them directly from them but there are distributors, Beauty Collection in the LA area still carries them.

To me this musk starts sweet and tangy, citrus-like then rounds out with hints of spice. Overall, it does smell of Tova without the Lavender. It is a simple fragrance.

I love this musk, it has just the right amount of musk, floral, and powdery notes. It is discreet but very long lasting and I get so many compliments on this. For lovers of Terra Nova oils, the Saunders have retired, however, there are still a few distributors. Life, a small boutique gift shop in San Francisco carries the Terra Nova Oils (not under that name), they sell the oils in bulk and have a website where you can order oils in 1/4, 1/3, and 1/2 oz size bottles.
