Rivière

Like the reviewer below me, I'm having a hard time figuring this one out. As others have said, I'm getting rose, leather, and oud from this. But also prominent is something boozy and gourmand-esque - I'm not sure what it is though. I first thought it was cocoa, but it might be malt & peat? I have to more thoroughly test this to figure it out. It's also quite familiar to me, but I can't place it. That may be because it somewhat resembles a number of things rather than replicating anything in particular (like Peacock Throne for TF Black Orchid). The leather reminds me of the original John Varvatos, and the booziness makes me think of Tom Ford Extreme for Men and, somehow, A*Men Pure Malt. I like this, and it's the most interesting Thameen fragrance I've tried so far, but I need more time with it to understand what it's going for. Edit: I see elsewhere that cinnamon is listed as a note. That's likely part of the gourmand aspect I get from this.

The first Thameen to really “wow” me. From the name I expect a freshie, but no - this is oud, saffron, incense and amber, with brown sugar syrup poured over top to bring it all together. A similar balance to Mancera’s Silver Blue, but this is much smoother, a sophisticated office-safe / dressed-up take on that profile, compared to the Mancera which is more of a club banger. It’s also pretty sneaky, sis. I thought at first it wouldn’t project or last, but I’m getting lots of wafts throughout the day, with just the rightest touch of skank, a skosh of honeyed tartness. The only negative I’d say is that there’s a lot going on, so it may not stick in your brain as a specific scent memory. However the wearing experience is fantastic - one just has to zoom out to take it all in.

it's a lovely smell - leathery, with lots of saffron and sage; I don't really get the rose smell but that's not so much of an issue. Incense like, heavy but not suffocating. a bit boozy too. perfect for a cold day later edit: I purchased the full bottle, it's one of my favourite perfumes, incredibly well done. Thank you Julia Rodriguez, I need to start paying attention to whatever new perfumes you're creating!

Smooth and easy to wear leather fragrance. This is decently long-lasting on my skin since it easily lasts 7+ hours on a hot day. The leather note in this one is extremely pleasing, it is well blended with other floral notes especially the rose and saffron. It is very unisex, I can see some women wear this with ease. For me personally, I rock on this for office, date and some fancy hang-outs. Rating: 9.5/10

The notes and the scent are so different! It smells sweet and airy, I didn't know what notes to expect (I am bad at guessing) and when I saw saffron, leather I was like?? What?? It is SO BEAUTIFUL! Very unisex. It is spicy and sweet, but very airy and wearable. Unisex definitely, if you enjoy sweet scents.

A truly beautiful scent profile. Sophisticated but understandable. A true boss’ fragrance. Very memorable smell and completely disagree with the generic scent profile listed for vote in cons. Not everyone’s cup of tea to wear but a lot of people like smelling it rather than wearing it I’d say.

This is a gorgeous rosey leather fragrance. Oddly, I don't like rose or leather typically, but I LOVE this one. I get a ton of compliments when I wear this!

Nice, gorgeous but weak in projection and longevity. Becomes faint within 30 minutes.

Rivière is a very classic saffron-leather composition. The opening is saffron and black pepper, a warm spice with a slight metallic edge. It stays soft and never feels harsh. Soon a rose with a faint hay-like dryness appears, forming a balanced transition between the spice and the leather. This is a fragrance that works best when smelled up close, especially once the leather slowly develops. The leather here is particularly clean. It isn’t heavy and has no oily texture. The warmth of saffron gradually filters through it, blending with the rose. After an hour or two, there’s also a very subtle hint of sage, adding a faint coolness that’s quite difficult to catch. If there is a drawback, it would be the longevity, which is fairly average.

Lemon cream flavored with a bit of rose water plus sweet herbs & spices. Dominant lemon blossom tinted with rose, given a generous dusting of cinnamon and more modest sprinkles of other aromatics. The dark woody leather base lurks but stays backgrounded until the deep drydown, with a mild sweet patchouli being most noticed early if anything. Moderately strong projection for 2-3hr maybe limping through ~4hr, longevity 10-12hr. Popular opinion seems to be the leather and oud are central players in this scent but I'm in a completely different ballpark. For me, it's a lemon blossom scent (an interesting and uncommon note) and the darker notes are barely there! Funny how our noses work.

Rivière by Thameen opens with a spicy burst of saffron and black pepper, quickly revealing a lush rose wrapped in smooth leather. There’s no oud listed, but it definitely has an oudy depth that adds richness and mystery. Unfortunately, despite these powerful notes, it feels surprisingly and disappointingly weak on my skin. Maybe it needs to macerate some more. Overall it is a refined, slightly dark rose-leather scent that’s elegant and easy to wear, though it doesn’t quite have the wow factor to make it unforgettable. I rate it 7/10.

I’ve really been put off by Saffron of late but this is a different interpretation. This is a clean and uplifting version which is blended together with florals and a bit of spice. It’s a really interesting wear a one you appreciate the more you try. I’d say bang on unisex but more suited to someone over 30. Slightly more formal but for anytime of the year. It truly has a bit of everything going on. Difficult to pick apart but that’s what I enjoy most. I’ll definitely be exploring the brand more in the future. 7.8/10

A gorgeous beautifully balanced spicy Floriental, this is another winning offering from Thameen. The perfume opens with aromatic notes of saffron and pepper before moving to a floral aromatic heart of Turkish rose, carnation and sage. It settles into a leathery base with distinct notes of Cypriol oil in the leather. The perfume is beautifully balanced and unisex and feels luxurious on skin and around you like most offerings of this line. Moderate projection and sillage and good longevity. Enjoy!

First impression from the sniff is (a) Middle Eastern vibe (rich Emirati clan), but in a moderate & tame manner, and (b) behind the peppery notes lies a hidden ointment sting, plus some leathery drydown. Doesn't feel cheap at all, in fact, some may find the smell to be luxurious and sophisticated. Would I wear it to office? Not really. Would I wear it on social ocassions like luncheon or gathering? Yeah, gladly. Unfortunately, the strength is much to be desired.

I had this for a few years, I don’t really use it much since something about it tickles my head. I do definitely think since it’s been with me for a few years it smells a lot better! The saffron is working better with the leather honestly and a hint of sage lingers. Overall I do think it’s gotten better but at first I really didn’t enjoy it as much.

Man why is my schnoz perceiving cherry in the opening? I get the saffron and sued'ish leather as well. But for the first 30 seconds to 1 min I get like a maraschino bing cherry. I like it for sure, but not sure if I would go out of my way to grab a full bottle. Dont get me wrong, I see how it could be wonderful to some.

it's a good one, however, my first impression isn't leather but oud, a mid-weight one, rounded with roses and powdered by saffron. It is somewhat a western take on oud though, so it's a nice introduction to that note. It is a well-balanced quality frag but I cannot justify its price point.

Opens with a strong fruitiness that lingers for around 30 minutes before drying down into a very sweet leathery rose. It can be cloying if oversprayed, so be careful! Longevity isn't as long as I expected at around 4-5 hours.

Riviere smells expensive. Leather with saffron and sweetnees from rose. Cypriol oil gives a hint mintyness and freshness. The combination is very smooth and not in your face. Personally I see this on a classy man.

It’s rich, seductive and Arabian in style. If you’re a fan of Penhaligon’s Halfeti then you’ll love this as it’s a similar rich, spicy, mysterious floral but with added exotic leather and sweet vanilla. This is the warmer, vanilla-cinnamon-gourmand sister of Halfeti. It’s too warmly-sweet for my tastes.

I acquired it several years ago and still haven’t grown fond of it. It feels too old-fashioned, excessively sweet, somewhat medicinal, and rather intense. Despite containing notes I typically enjoy, I suspect the rose is simply too dominant, overshadowing the other scents.

Classic rose, saffron, leather combo with something bright, juicy and fruity in the top. I very much like the opening but the heart is too rose heavy for my liking. For that reason I don’t find it to be very wearable.

The scent is nice, but very weak, no projection at all on my skin or clothes. Overall impression is very “meh”. Next!

Slightly spiced, soft powdery rose with a sweet leathery base. Very safe and inoffensive for a rose and leather DNA.

Testing blind, a strong initial animalic urine opening followed by some sweetness and warm tones, turning powdery musky. The level of sweetness which isn't all that present is still enough to calm the other tones. For the first 40 minutes or so it almost feels like two fragrances sitting on top of another; one earthy, animalic, raw, the other floral, powdery, with some sweetness. These slowly merge into one. The funkiness remains even though it moves towards a dry powdery musky cloud. At times I like it. At times it's ok. But more often I want it gone. I think it's just too funky-powdery in that (assuming Iris or Violet) way (keep in mind I'm blind resting still at this point). I'm just getting too much of that funkiness with the musky powder turning to an unfresh baby room from afar. It is subtle, but every so often that moment isn't enjoyable. Now, looking at the notes, the Turkish Rose is the dominant character here (should have known), but its personality is being thwarted by the Cypriol Oil/Nagarmotha and/or leather, bringing in an earthiness that to me feels at odds rather than compliments the rose. Regardless, it does not warm me up enough. Maybe kinder sandalwood or something would bridge the gap? Or maybe it is just this particular rose, IDK. For a fragrance that shifts too often between little whiffs of pleasant musky rose weirdness, to weirdness that makes one wonder who just tooted some rose, at this price point it is a strong pass either way. I think some home blending of your manly leather fragrance with her Turkish rose powder bomb may result in just as good, if not better (pleasant - not off-putting) results. The only way to know is to try!

The opening is rather nice, but every hour that passes by this turns into something more and more unpleasant for me. The somewhat sweet opening? gone, replaced by heavy rose that weighs down even more on the leather, saffron and black pepper. I get maybe 2 hours before this turns into a smell I don't like. Despite the great score it has - not blind buy safe for most people.

This and culinal diamond were a letdown for me . Hard pass . Way too synthetic and cheap smelling for the price tag. Smells like those tree scents for your car Overall- 2/10

I don't really like this one. Smells too masculine for me. I think the leather isn't very balanced.

Following off of @Curlycomedy, I also have the milestone dupe. Scent: I don't know the original but the dupe is a really good fragrance. I get a dense, sweet and rosey leather that to my nose is perfectly unisex. I also get a dose of what smells like cacao, but it might be an accord that is created off of the leather rose combo. I also get a pear like fruity smell, I understand why some people might be reminded of Ultramale. Performance (of the dupe): From this smell profile I am pretty sure the original might be super strong, the dupe however is nothing special. I get 4-5 hours longevity with lacking projection but it compensates by having a good dense sillage. The price of the dupe is like $15 and considering the quality that it has, I can only recommend it for people who want a good leathery fragrance for the fall time, milestone perfumes has the best quality fragrance to price ratio along with armaf. I'm pretty sure that if you have the original you might enjoy the dupe.

I have a decant of this and very much agree this is a high tier exceptional blend of juice that sits very closely to ultra male by JPG. Or at least 9pm by Afnan. Fruity opening, quite sweet, dries down to a really comforting scent. Thameen are underrated in my opinion and deserve more of a spotlight for sure. Though this one I think you could find the DNA in these cheaper alternatives. Performance is so so on me compared to some other thameens in my collection. They’re usually beasts but this one has a shorter half life for me.

Minty leather, almost like a clean smell with a hint of sophistication in the background. It does feel like you are sitting in a fancy armchair in a cold winter day, and your house has just been cleaned. I wouldn't wear it myself (female, 33), it is not my style nor my scent profile. But if I smelled it in a guy I would find it that they have their things put together. I like the blend, black pepper is very strong in the opening, I find it a good combination of boldiness but I would not mind smelling that in an office space.

A stunning combination of leather and Oud. You can smell the saffron picking through, together with the lemon blossom and sage. It leans more on the fresher side of Oud/leather, which makes it wearable all year round! It's one of the perfumes I fell in love with when I was exploring the Thameen London stand and I couldn't leave without a bottle. Nice projection and sillage as well, taking into consideration it is an extract, be prepared to have it on your clothes for days.

Sweet fruits, sweet rose, some dirty oud and patchouli at the base. This is a fruity, sweet, complex oriental fragrance with Montale leanings. Although I find this to be less synthetic and less oily and overbearing than Montale. I would have to smell it on someone else to see if it's radically masculine or radically feminine, cause it's definitely one of those things but I have no clue which one. This fragrance has me totally stumped, and that's rare.

A mild leather with the generic "saffron" spiciness that hardly smells like the real thing, has a mild smokiness from the cypriol. In the dry down the rose is slowly revealed but remains subtle at the base, adding a fruity sweetness. It's nothing interesting but a lovely saffron-leather, just the right amount of spiciness and smokiness to not take away from the beautiful base. First thing I think of is acetone which then (luckily) quickly turns into green apple, gooseberries and pineapple with all of them standing on a sweet, benzoin-dominant amber & fuzzy peach platform. Floral notes join in next, in the form of rose and possibly osmanthus but it could be the stonefruit lending its qualities to trick me into thinking of it. Warm and comforting but more suitable for a girl in her teens IMO.

I was given a sample of this and with no preconceived expectations i smelled this and when i saw the notes and accords i was surprised! At first whiff to me it had that typical leather profile with a sweet and complex opening, i think it’s quite noticeably floral, it has a soft feel, like a feminine touch, i think it smells nice overall, definitely one of the better leathers i’ve smelled

My impression is so different. This is a light leather fragrance on me. The leather is not bitter and dry, but rather airy and stays on the background when paired with the rose. Can be used casually as a rather fresh fragrance that is nonetheless chic. I passed on this and chose 2 other Thameen fragrances. It seems the men like it more !

Very arabic very oudy. Normally I associate this brand with high quality notes, this feels more a bit like an arabic cheapie (maybe i just had really good quality arabic cheapies in my sample box!) it's good, mascuine, a touch even locker roomesque in an arabic way. Warm, sweet, with wet oud smell (sweet, but a touch barny). I like it.

Wow, I really LOVE this fragrance. I find it really well balanced, with a beautiful, rich rose scent at its heart. The amber comes through giving it warmth and some sweetness, the cinnamon and saffron add a touch of spice, and the oud in the base give it that depth and strength. Definitely a favourite of mine!

I have the Milestone clone of this called Haneen Rivera ($14.99 at Marshalls, discounted to $12). Love the bottle color, secure cap, powerful atomizer, and of course the sweet fragrance. I love sweet unisex scents like this one. It puts me in the same cozy mood as Magenta Tanzanite by Giorgio Armani.

Sweet and juicy rose, leather, and oud fragrance. The leather note is pleasant and not dirty or animalic, and the rose is not overbearing. I have smelled many similar fragrances before. This scent profile is not my cup of tea, but this is one of the nicer oud/rose combos I have tried. 6,5/10.

Received in Harrods calendar and was one I wasn’t too fussed on. Never been on my radar. Could possibly be my favourite out of the 12. Such a beautiful scent and lasts all day on me. Not too masculine and deffo unisex. Luckily for me, I don’t get too much of the Turkish Rose (hate this note).

I love Thameen fragrances, however, this one...smells dirty, like B.O. once it settles. Thameen has wonderful leather, citrus fragrances...but this one is not original, doesn't seem special and has dirty, unpleasant notes.

This is like a sexy version of tuscan leather in some way omitting the tobacco effect (and I love TL) and replacing it with raspberry cream! Florals are so nice here mixed with the pepper!
