After Midnight

Surprisingly delicious powdery-woody-iris with a beautiful, jewelled purple colour in the bottle and a surprising amount of class on your skin. Like other Different Company things, strength and durability are subtle (if not actually weak) so this wouldn't be a beast of an all-day performer. And the various notes do all bleed into each other so very smoothly that this isn't in fact an outstandingly "different" scent at all; it's a recognisable, familiar, reassuringly gentle floral. (Still one with some special character lent by the mastic and cistus and angelica though.) And yet. I'm not mad for florals and often have particularly bad luck with iris fragrances, which can end up smelling of anything from room-freshener to wet rug on me - yet this one really really pleases me, at least in its first flush of strength. Something in the initial stages does "fresh but with depth" extremely well for my nose, with lovely warmer aromatic details in the margins too. Just unisex enough to be very very pleasing, as well. So why am I not head over heels in love with it? Somehow it can't leap any higher than "strong but qualified like" for me - perhaps because of its impeccable taste, comfortable familiarity and reliable discretion. Really very good but just doesn't make the heart beat any faster.

This is a very interesting scent! Sour, airy, floral with a rather distant but noticeable sweetness. It smells like how I imagine magic to smell like.. You know, the magic expelled from the wand of a blue-robed wizard. I don't know how else I can explain it. It's difficult for me to identify single notes in this, it just smells completely imaginary and fairy tale-like. But then I've never had the pleasure of smelling angelica flowers, so maybe that's what it is. Nevertheless, a magical scent that transports me to my imaginary fairy tale land of my childhood.

such gorgeous florals. i get a realistic just-bloomed jasmine, still captures the green essence of the soliflore, super feminine, for some reason reminds me of some elements of gucci bloom + bbw one in a million which makes me wonder if there’s gardenia in the composition. citrusy top disappears shortly into the life of fragrance at least on skin. musky, but doesn’t make the base smell warm imo, it’s just there. very effortlessly beautiful but nothing new, also doesn’t smell ultra niche.

I LOVE this fragrance! It's soft and mesmerizing at the same time. I really do smell the angelica and the mastic in it, and I have to say it: I never tried something close to this. I find it quite unique, and I love the work of The Different Company. Only downside: the lasting. Nothing, after an hour it's barely there. I'm heartbroken because this fragrance is one of those which are able to bring you to a different place... But unfortunately just for 30/45 minutes.

It smells like long after midnight, like a cold sunny morning in April, actually. Like bitter herbs and dew and crispy fresh air, and maybe even a tiny layer of snow or ice on the grass. Somewhere in Pennsylvania. A very underrated masterpiece. I tried it in Bucharest duty free 2 years ago and couldn't forget since then.

Very well donr scent. It started as a unisex , very clean fresh smell like Prada infusion. Then about 15 min into the dry down it turned totally feminine, but still a well done watery bright sparkley transparent floral. Perfect for a women but not quite strong enough for a man.

This is so lovely. It smells like taking a walk in the spring in nature. The weather is cool but the sun is out so plants are especially fragrant. I am loving this. Simply beautiful and delightful.

Just beautiful! Fresh airy and modern

This is really the smell of a warm summer night. The smell of a woman's skin, when madame had already gone to a gourmet dinner and even danced a little, and now she is walking home through the summer city, fragrant, slightly tired, waving her removed pumps and listening to the waking nature... It starts pleasantly, but at first it may seems like nothing special: a faint echo of bergamot and white flowers. Light bitter notes of angelica - the only thing that gives originality on the first sight. The one could think that it will open up with ordinary white freshness, as a very familiar overture, but no! Then, from the first cool notes, an unexpectedly warm wave comes: vague "white flowers" turn out to be Irises, and incense, amber and musk appear through it. But not like you imagined from the description of the notes! They are surprisingly soft, at least for me. With the words "incense, amber and musk" I usually imagine the pretty heavy scent. And this one floats like a weightless cloud...

I bought it because I was expecting it to smell like what I think the time after midnight should smell like: gossamer, dark, thick, a little foul and scary. Unfortunately, the perfume opened very lightly and brightly. I didn't like this perfume, so I decided to use it before going to the gym. One or two spritzes settle on the skin with a mild acidity of cleanliness, and I associate it with laundry, lemon juice, showering and being alert for the day. It's been a year since that decision to use perfume before the gym. And today I realised how much I like this scent - unpretentious, fresh, a little mysterious and light. It doesn't offend anyone, it doesn't intrude. Ideal for young people, for leisure. It stays on the skin for a very short time - max an hour, but it gives a pleasant experience.

The beginning here is a bit bitter. I think it comes with the angelica. I tasted angelica once and it is bitter and spicy with some sourness. To me that is dominant in this. This part goes on for quite some time. The base is softer and more easy to wear, but very weak. To get the base enough I have to put a lot on and then the beginning is a bit much. My throat gets harsh then. I tried to mix it with lotion or coconut oil and then the edge of the top gets a bit rounded off, and my throat coped better. All in all a nice frag for hot weather. If the base were more prominent and topnotes less prominent I would like it more, but nevertheless I find it to be a nice one for hot weather.

This perfume is genius in that all of its notes are normally rich, heavy-hitters (like labdanum, benzoin, jasmine), but even though I can detect all of those notes, it is actually very transparent and light. Like other reviewers have already said, it's primarily a tranquil light aquatic floral. When first put on the skin I think I can detect a little bit of grape juice (or maybe that is just psychological because it is purple liquid). After Midnight reminds me of sitting on a park bench at night, and also that Patsy Cline song: "I go out walkin' after midnight Out in the starlight, just hoping you may be Somewhere a-walkin' after midnight Searchin' for me"

This fragrance is quite interesting as it's a cologne-type scent but with the addition of some heavier notes like amber and benzoin. The top notes are citrusy and fresh, with a refined, gently powdery and musky background. The combination of bergamot-neroli gives it a cologne-like character, and when paired with iris and angelica, it provides a powdery feeling. The art lies in using heavy bases while keeping them light. Therefore, the fragrance is light but has character. It's not a loud or strong fragrance, making it a suitable option for an everyday office scent. 7/10

Mainly a mixture of neroli and bergamot at the opening which becomes citrusy floral after iris note is added yet still citrusy notes are there , and finally dries down to woody-powdery notes with touches of floral notes. This one needs quit some time to be loved.as time passes your nose learn to love it. Take my humble advise and overspray if you want a better performance as this one is a fade, soft gentle scent. 4/5 Age:+30 more formal Unisex (maybe a bit feminin) spring and summer nights. Moderate longevity and projection.

I received a sample for free and I'm very happy that I got to try this perfume, even though it wasn't on my radar before. It's such a nice scent, it's very white floral, but in a way slightly darker. Appropriate for day and night, I wouldn't say it's heavy, but it can hold its own in the evening.

Very light. Airy, sour and intimate. Sits close to the skin all the way through and the sourness is the type you find in YSL Y but softer. The iris is very hidden, which is a disappointment to me as I love iris a lot, but still there, still noticeable if you dig your nose in.

It's a beautiful scent that goes so well with southern summer nights. It’s a cool breezy floral with mastic. I'm talking midnight walks in Athens in summer.

Party scent. I can smell mostly neroli and flowers, not much of resins. It's quite aromatic and I can imagine it being worn by both sexes.

I got a sample of After Midnight by chance, and it's one of those scents that I admire rather than like, although I like it just fine. It's such an original, well-made scent; I feel like I really get what it's trying to do with the "esprit cologne" concept, just because of how successfully it does it. It's a less fleeting, more outspoken insistent version of a cologne. Not heavy, but definitely not very light either. It has some really wonderfully done floral notes, green and unsweet and pretty natural, but there's also a contrasting, surprisingly synthetic element to it, which fits the "after midnight" name. Slightly more on the masculine side of unisex, I think, but not too much to be worn by almost anyone. It doesn't do very much for my own taste, but that's okay, I'm glad I got to test it - it's definitely the kind of perfume that broadens one's horizons!

Innofensive, floral, aquatic scent with amber in the back. Projection and longevity are bad. Also feminine leaning in my opinion. Nothing unique...

To me it smells like laying in the dirt in a very old and wet forest at night. Earth and herbal with a slight woody funk in the background. It does NOT smell the way you think it does i assure you. It can be calming and soothing in the same way laying in an old wet forest can be, but in the same way it can be off putting or uncomfortable. In my mind it reminds me of a nightmare i had as a kid but i cant remember anymore, so now it lingers in the back of my memory just out of reach. The dry down is way better then the opening tho. Do not blind buy by any means

This is a lovely scent but when I first tried it, the scent seemed to disappear on my skin. I was feeling very sad because I love this fragrance in the drydown and wanted to be able to wear it. Well, I don't give up easily, so I did not give up on "After Midnight." After 2 more days and more tries with this fragrance I am happy to report that I firgured it out! I read the perfumer's details again and these scents are supposed to be similar to an eau de cologne, i.e. they are meant to be very light and therefore require a lot more of the goods on your skin. I just had not put enough of the fragrance on my skin. After a good dousing with the scent this afternoon it lasted 4 hours and 6 hours later I can still smell it on my skin and it is very lovely- I get tiny wafts of it as I moved around. No really noticeable sillage but it's there. And it's a great layering fragrance, too. I am wearing After Midnight now on my hands and A Lab on Fire" Liquid Night" on my wrists and they go really well together- who would have thought it? A sillage monster and an eau fraiche type scent? But they do go together brilliantly. Both "After Midnight" and "Liquid Night" are going to be mine. After Midnight does have an aquatic quality to it and it reminds me of a pond in a Chinese garden with lovely floating white florals. Calming and light.

The Different Company AFTER MIDNIGHT is one of the four new "L'Esprit Cologne" launches which are explained on the manufacturer's card thus: "L'esprit est 'Cologne' la concentration est Eau de Toilette la création est un parfum" Translation: the spirit is that of a cologne the concentration is that of an edt the creation is that of a perfume Huh. Okay. I guess that they're trying to say that this is not just some infusion of flowers? Well, anyway, I definitely agree that the spirit is that of a cologne. As with TOKYO BLOOM, AFTER MIDNIGHT has a very watery quality to it (I do not mean dilute...), making this seem more like AT DAWN to me. I always associate words like 'midnight' with dark oriental elixirs, and that is not what this is. However, I could imagine wearing this at midnight on a hot summer night lying in bed naked under a ceiling fan. It's light and refreshing and cool, and somewhat floral but in a cologne style with, again, a slightly aquatic feeling. I cannot claim to be able to tease out any of the individual notes, but overall this smells pretty nice.

Too masculine for me, but I'd love to smell this on a guy. The name made me think I'd be getting a spicy, sensual kind of scent, but instead, it's light as air, with an aquatic feel to it. It opens with citrus and angelica, summery, watery and slightly herbal. It soon drys down into iris and cool woods. I don't notice amber at all. There's nothing oriental about this to my nose. I thought I caught a whiff of something resinous once or twice, but it was gone so fast I could barely register it. Unfortunately, like the others in the cologne line from this house, you have to practically douse yourself in this to smell it and then it doesn't last for very long. Calling something a cologne shouldn't automatically mean it's got terrible sillage and longevity. Atellier Cologne have managed to make a whole range of colognes that only require a couple of sprays and last for hours. Really nice while it lasts though.

sour, soft jasmines, & iris. This one is quite soft as well (like the others) with a very short silage but nice blend as i can detect cedar, amber, wood, & something midley sweet. "The Different Company" fragrances are quite soft, with short silage and med longevity. Their fragrances are meant to be used more often through the day to keep them alive which sometimes is quite interesting for the ones who doesn't like allot of fragrance on

Very successful blindbuy. Bought this on a whim based on frag reviews from a discounter at an amazing price. Instant love. This is such a well blended masterpiece, that I cannot pickup the different notes. It does have an « l’heure Bleue » from Guerlain vibe, but this is much much better. Poor projection and Longevity. I don’t mind dousing myself in this. Need a backup ASAP.

After Midnight opens with a neroli accord that immediately speaks of CLASSIC Eau de cologne. The fragrance is then joined by a subtle, sort of weightless ambery note that's not so distant from Comme Des Garcons Ambar if not for the fact it's way weaker. Resins lurk in the back providing a woody-incensey-ambery vibe. Nice and, after all, forgettable. Rating: 6.5/10
