South Bay

Lovely fragrance. A grapefruit like no other. Usually grapefruit tend to be too synthetic, harsh and in some cases it can borderline body odor. But somehow The Different Company achieved the impossible, to tame grapefruit and transform it into a vessel that carries the other notes on a wonderful journey. magnificent.

Very bright, fresh and beautiful. Better in warm weather. I wore it at 0 degrees of Celsius, it was beautiful too. Unfortunately without sillage and projection. On my skin only about 1-2 hours.

I like this, but I wanted to love it. Citrus fragrances are some of my favorites and this one is undeniably lovely. It's got that effervescent pop upon first spray, and I think the tamarind lends it an even more punchy, tart quality along with a little touch of sweetness that photorealistic grapefruit is typically missing. It's nice and green and fresh and zingy. I really liked smelling the spray head and cap; that's where I could smell the fragrance the best and where I could appreciate the creamier, outdoorsy heart of the sandalwood and what I think is the rose hip. Like freshly shorn branches of a twiggy bush. It's very nicely constructed, and if I could smell it on me at all I think I would love it. That being said, South Bay suffers from the failing that virtually all citrus scents do, namely poor longevity. I sprayed this on in the morning as I was getting ready and it was gone within 30 minutes. I couldn't even smell it on my wrists. I think there was a touch of the woody suede base after the citrus dissipates, but I honestly could be imagining it. I'm missing all that beautiful structure on my skin, and it's just a blink-and-you-miss-it citrus. It's worse than most on this count, unfortunately. It's a 6.5/10 for me, purely because of the longevity. If it was a better performer, I would give it an 8/10.

It is a refreshing summer fragrance. The name is well chosen it's like a refreshing breeze in the South Bay somewhere on Caribbean islands with the hot weather all year long. In the beginning it's a strong scent tending to the masculine side with the burst of grapefruit and strong spices but in several minutes it calms down. Then it remains still grapefruit fragrance with 2 other well recognisable notes: liquorice and rose hip. The sweetness of liquorice is subtle enough comparing to other fragrancies. I do not like liquorice as it tends to over-helm me with it's woody sweetness. For example Lolita Lempicka fragrancies just turn my stomach with it's liquorice. But in South Bay liquorice is not so extremely sweet and just gives enough sweetness to this fragrance making it unisex and not just masculine. Rose hip is beautiful. It lasts all duration and mixes with woods in the dry down. I do not detect the leather and barely notice freesia (I have other freesia fragrancies like forever and ever Dior for ex). The flowery note here is rose hip. The longevity is decent enough with 8h on fabrics with a moderate trail. I like a lot this natural perfume and it's very aromatic. I bought 90 ml at a good discount price and enjoy wearing it.

I see people below treat South Bay like a rather tame and usual grapefruit fragrance, I disagree, I find it surprisingly unique and experimental. So yes, a good amount of grapefruit in the top, but aside from the usual tart zestiness there is also a certain savory aspect to it. Stellar fragrances like Heeley Note de Yuzu have already proved that a bit of salt makes citrus really pop a feel 3d, and it sure does here, but it also pushes the citrus towards the sweet savory contrast of tamarind. It may be me reading too much into the note pyramid, but even when I sampled it blind I remember thinking the top felt tart, but fruity and slightly savory. As it enters the dry down I get a clear herbal slightly bitter element to it, the rose hip presumably (i've never sampled the raw material so far), but it is completed by floral elements that lead to a subtle woodiness in the base. Overall it is very interesting, fresh and zingy, floral and woody, but also with a unique herbal twist. If you find the usual grapefruit with floral combo (Pamplelune, Pomelo Paradis, Hermes Pampelmouse) too feminine leaning, the woody grapefruit variation (Vetyverio, TdH) too repetitive then this may be a good place to look for a different take.

I love grapefruit as a perfume note, so it comes as no surprise that I like South Bay very much as well, although it's very far from the simple, happy, sparkling, bittersweet brightness that I usually associate with this note. It's a realistic grapefruit, yes, and quite a delicious one, but not juicy or zesty or exuberant - rather bitter and woody, with vetiver sharing the spotlight. So a little startling at first, but on reflection it's exactly the kind of high quality originality that I've come to expect from this house, and it's very good, very well-balanced: an elegant citrus. Not being very elegant myself, I suspect I'll continue to reach for the simpler, brighter grapefruits in my collection a lot more often, but I'm very glad to have a little decant of this special version in my wardrobe as well.

A pretty summer scent made of wonderful, natural smelling grapefruit - the bitter and raw kind with soft and sweet florals at the back. What I did enjoy the most about "South Bay" even though the very low presence I got out of this is the drydown - I did have to try hard to smell anything at all, but when at some points I did manage to get whiffs of what's on my wrists - I got a wonderful, pleasant vetiver which made the whole base of "South Bay" a wonderful beauty. Nevertheless, "South Bay" has a decant staying power - 6 hours, but it does stay very close to skin. Two words I could easily describe this scent - "very nice". Worth a try. Worth a buy on at least 50% discount as I can't seem to justify spending the price they are trying to ask for this for such a fleeting and "very nice" scent.

A very realistic fresh grapefruit in the top, supported by creamy white florals and possibly a hint of woods in the base. It's very modest projection makes of it an unoffensive but still moodlifting fragrance, and thus suited for a nice Summer breakfast on a terrace, but because of its poor longevity, do not expect this one to last much longer than that. It's a shame because the early opening is stunning. As such, I cannot recommend that one, unless, like me, you manage to get it for a fraction of its original price. Summer days, 20+, unisex

A wonderful woody, grapefruit scent. Possibly the most natural smelling grapefruit I've experienced in a perfume. Smells exactly like the real thing. Slightly floral, but the florals aren't dominating. A very clean and fresh vetiver as well. All in all this is straight up grapefruit to me. Lasts 4 - 6 hours it seems. Probably best suited for warmer weather, but I'll use it regardless of temperature because it smells so damn good. Very nice.

At first it is fresh and pleasant, but after some time it loses its all power and I can barely smell anything. Not bad, but it lacks character.

One of my favorite grapefruit/freesia scents!

همیشه بحث قیمت و کیفیت در خرید عطر، از جایگاه ویژه ای برخوردار بوده، هست و خواهد بود. این بحث در مورد خرید عطرای خنک و تابستانه بسیار پر رنگتر میشه و جای تفکر و تأمل زیادی در پرداخت قیمتی بالا برای عطری که بیشتر استفاده ی روزانه داره و چیز خاص و غافلگیرکننده ای در اون نیست؛ وجود داره. قطع به یقین سوث بِی یکی از این عطرا و در واقع سردمدار اوناست! یه کار خوش ساخت و با کیفیت اما بسیار گرونفیمت که نظر بنده در موردش مشخصه! سوث بِی با گریپ فروت و لیموی تازه، آبدار و ملس که حس سیتروسی-گیاهی پتیت گرین رو هم در کنار خودش داره باز میشه و خیلی زود تم خاکی-دودی ضعیفی از جیر بهش اضافه میشه و با همین مرکبات آبدار و ملس، بعد از جا گذاشتن سبزی پتیت گرین که کمی با جیر خاک آلود و کدر شده بود؛ حالتی کرمی و شیرین به خودش می گیره تا مهیای ورود به قلبی فلورال و پودری بشه که همچنان تحت سیطره ی شادابی مرکبات آبداره. با خشکیده شدن نتهای فلورال و کمرنگ شدن حس پودری، عطر وارد پایه ای چوبی و کمی اسپایسی-دودی میشه تا در خنکایی که حالا مرکبات اون با آکورد چوبی متعادل و کمی خاکی شدن، به پایان برسه. سوث بِی حسابی انرژی داره، شیطون و نافذه. شیک و درخشان و سیتروسی شروع میکنه؛ فلوارال و پودری و آبدار ادامه میده و چوبی و خنک و خاکی تموم میکنه. ماجرایی که با ماندگاری حدود 5 ساعته و پخشی که با ارفاق میشه گفت متوسطه؛خیلی زود به انتها میرسه. اینکه سوث بی عطر خوب و با کلاسیه درست، اما اینکه برای یه عطر مفرح با فضایی آشنا چنین قیمتی بدم رو اصلا نمی پذیرم و خیلی راحت از کنار این عطر میگذرم و فقط میگم:ممنونم دیفرنت کمپانی! کامنت: م.ع (سایت لوکس بایر (با امکان تست سمپل

The grapefruit and vetiver combine to make a sharp pine tree in summer scent. It's a clean and manly scent that dries down sweeter than its opening. Quite nice but not exactly my thing.

Fresh citrus scent summer. Heat Community. It should be more than the light perfumes.Gorgeous.
