Vintage 1933

I have a decant of Vol de Nuit--not the vintage formulation, just the current one from Guerlain, in the bouchon coeur bottle--and it smells very similar to the Dua impression, Vintage 1933. I wish I had a vintage formulation with which to compare the two, but I do not, so I'll just say that to my nose this is very beautiful and persuasive on its own terms. (It's not like most people you encounter will have ever smelled Vol de Nuit anyway, but a connoisseur might recognize the classic Guerlinade accord.) Like most of the early Guerlain frags that I adore, Vol de Nuit confers a sense of tender melancholy, a rainy dusky autumnal feeling. I love it, but I'm a fool for vintage French fragrances, and I fervently wish that Mr. Raza and his band of merry chemists would do their own versions of ALLLLLLLLLL the old formulations I long to smell. If you are reading this, Mr. Raza, I'd love for you to do Mahora and Nahéma, too. Update: On skin this is even more beautiful. I love this so, so much. The combination of oak moss and this floral blend, with the slightly spicy carnation, is so beautiful that I forget I'm not wearing the OG, in its exquisite Art Deco bottle. (The Dua bottle is just fine; I actually like the minimalism and simplicity of them.)

Whoever downvoted this to a Hate must also hate the original, and all forms of vintage Guerlain. It's not for everyone, but it's a stellar impression, and likely closer to the vintage OG than the current formulation is. I still treasure my original Guerlains, but I'm not going to pay a fortune for a vintage perfume of uncertain provenance whose top notes could very well have gone off. Classic 1933 is probably as close as I will ever get to smelling a 1933 Vol de Nuit, and I'm very pleased with this purchase. When Dua opens its vault again, I could even see getting a BUB, that's how much I love it.

I've had this for about 2 months, top off. This opens powdery & green with a slightly sweet citrus, the galbanum and carnation are stronger to my nose. Sandalwood and oakmoss become more prominent as it dries down as it retains its powdery profile, and overall wears sweeter to my nose than Vol de Nuit. It's still an excellently done dupe of its inspiration (the reformulated version). Lasts all day and then some as is standard with DUA's fragrances. Can be worn all year round.

This is exquisite. I will probably never have the opportunity to smell the original of this, but I am just floating away with the beauty of this dupe. I have to be careful when I wear it, because all I want to do is sniff it and dream. Bravo, Dua Brand!

I never smelled the original Vol de Nuit, but this is absolutely beautiful. Soft, lovely, wistful, ethereal. SO good. One of my favorite scents.

Top 3 of the 40+ Duas that I own.. Do not sleep on this one..

Well this is not close to Vol d’ Nuit at all. On my skin it translates to a mish mash of woods. The oakmoss is too heavy and over done. Barely any jasmine. Quality of ingredients is key to the great Guerlain scents, and the quality is not in this one or any of the Guerlains I’ve tried from this house.

Thank you smile4thecamera for sending me a sample of this Vol de Nuit dupe. At first I get a strong burst of aldehydes, sharp citrus, and oakmoss. Middle notes are still dominated by aldehydic oakmoss, but I also smell pungent daffodils along with galbanum and some nondescript spices. The dry down is much softer. After the burst of aldehydes fleet away, the flowers are enveloped by a warm woody musk that compliments the whole composition. It projects very well and lasts the whole day without any need for replenishment. This classy perfume is well done and harkens to yesteryears when girly outfits had masculine shoulder pads and feminine florals had a woody backbone. Is it a safe blind-buy dupe of Vol de Nuit? No. Sample first. Does it stand alone as a good perfume? Yes. It is a lovely chypre with a retro-feel.
