@otitis THANK YOU FOR THE CLARITY!!!! I also bought a sample set from The Harmonist's website (The Ying-Yang discovery set). I initially got the set because I loved Hypnotizing Fire so much and ended up falling allllll the way in love with the Matrix Metal formulation in the sample. On the hunt for a discount, I found someone selling a bottle on eBay and took the risk. It came in and I was so excited but that only lasted shortly as I sprayed, what I now realize is, the parfum formulation which didn't smell the same to me at all. Not as warm/smooth/unique/inviting, instead, I got a truly metallic fragrance. It's been sitting on my shelf and now I'm just praying they either bring back the EDP, I can find a bottle of the old formulation, or I can find the perfect layering combo for it.

The cyclamen and white tea combine in a fruity way that smells very much like Mojave Ghost. However, instead of warm, round musk enveloping that sweetness, I get a wash of steel singing my my nostrils--probably from the tea/wood/spice combination. I love a sharp and fresh scent, and when fused with my favorite qualities of Mojave Ghost, I have to get my hands on a full size of this.

This has replaced Byredo Mojave Ghost for me. It's stronger, and lasts a long time. It's like a more edgy version of Mojave Ghost. It smells so fresh, musky and woodsy. It does lean a little more into florals than Mojave Ghost but that isn't a bad thing to me. I don't know how more people aren't talking about this!?

I'm obsessed with this, i only wish I had the money to afford it. I don't even know what to compare this to, but it just smells really interesting and unique. I love an uncanny synthetic niche esoteric scent, and this is exactly that.

I'm testing the Harmonist discovery set blind. I haven't looked up anything about them: names, notes, etc. Starting with the white caps, this is the third one. Opening in the air was floral and pretty. On my skin a few minutes later a lovely floral mix with light rose just barely being the most pronounced note, with a wet stone and musky-powdery body. At times I felt like I could detect some tropical fruits like guava or passion fruit, and other times I got bubblegum, but before you write me off I assume this is just an aspect of the florals drying down and being interpreted differently. Two hours later, it remains the scent of a woman at a cool and perfectly breezy wedding. To me this is the canon of femininity (whether you're a man or a woman), not overly musky or powdery, just pretty. Looking at the name and notes now, I'm completely thrown off! Wait, no florals? No feminine notes? Just goes to show what wearing something blind does to your perception. I've checked three times that I'm wearing this fragrance. Sure, NOW I get it, the juniper and aldehydes with the musky notes explains the wet stone I interpreted. But where's the florals? It's so light, and sexy in a feminine way! Matrix Metal? Are you serious? There's nothing Keanu Reeves or Bill and Ted about this. I'd have to sweeten my personality, get a sear succer suit, and talk with a feminine southern accent to pull this off. I do like it though. Sillage seems moderate, and longevity good. I'm still perplexed by my blind experience compared to it's notes. Definitely will have to wear again and see if my interpretation changes or remains the same.

This is a very well-done fragrance of a familiar DNA. Matrix Metal is marketed as unisex, but in my opinion it leans more masculine and I'd like it more on a man than on myself. It's a lovely woody, cooling, aromatic scent. Right off the bat there's fresh aldehydes and juniper berries. The aldehydes aren't overwhelming or synthetic-feeling which I appreciated. This fragrance reminds me of the vibes of a winter forest, without being too on the nose. This isn't a conifer fragrance so if you're wanting something wintery/Christmassy this is definitely not it, but there's an aspect to this scent from the pine and juniper that gives a natural fresh vibe. Although it's a clean scent, it's wearable in cold weather, so I'd definitely recommend checking this out if you're not one for heavy/sweet/gourmand/thick winter fragrances and would prefer something a little fresher and cleaner. This is a great cold weather option for those who like crisp and clean fragrances. The amber, myrrh and woods give it some body and depth so it's not just a transparent freshie, but the drydown still maintains its iciness. Still, this can certainly be worn in spring and summer as well. There's an elegance to Matrix Metal that makes the scent feel luxurious, or like something you'd smell in a Four Seasons hotel. No doubt it's well-blended and I think The Harmonist did a good job with this woody, clean masculine DNA. At the end of the day, it's not the most unique DNA, but the quality is there. I recommend it for men who are searching for a classy, clean fresher/aromatic scent that can be worn in cooler weather.

It’s definitely a unique offering; a true niche option. MM goes into a unique direction with its metalic notes which could come accross harsh but it has just enough tea notes to soften the metalic edges. I also pick up a hint of white flowers that are not listed on the notes; maybe jasmine or lilly of the valley. These notes combine for a pleasant opening and dry down that is different but not offensive. I really can’t think of any thing to compare it to which is nice for a collector. I get a musky/vetiver dry down that has a hint of sandalwood and carries enough of opening to continue to be a different scent option. It can be worn year round, but I think it shines in the warmer weather and daytime. I think it’s unisex, but I am not sure there are two many women that want to smell like metal. It’s not a daily driver, but if you are looking for something different, here it is. Rating 7/10.

This is one of the less conceptual-smelling offerings by this house, but it's well-made. Aldehydes dominate, followed by the components of a good, dry gin thanks to the very green pine, vetiver, and juniper. There's no citrus listed, but I get something that is tart and lemony. It's an iced gin drink, open air, and sunshine. I'm kind of surprised to see how many people have voted this as a winter fragrance. While not stereotypically fruity/summery, it definitely has a refreshing quality. I can imagine this being worn year-around, but nothing about this says "cold weather" to me. This one leans slightly masculine.

To me it's a nice gentle soapy scent. Very rounded, not harsh at all. Makes you smell lovely and clean. Performance wise this does not really project and lasts as a skin scent for a couple of hours. The problem is the price. It smells like something you'd get from The Body Shop and has lackluster performance. For the money I could get something far more interesting and more impactful than something that just makes me smell like I've cleaned myself with a fancy soap.

Synthetic and aromatic mix with a mild aquatic/fruity undertone. Like a sweet floral, marine musk. Balanced and subtle, but less so than Harmonist’s other wind/water based frags like Sacred and Guiding Water. Nonspecific woods and amber make up the nuance. Well done. Unisex, but barely. Leans just a tad feminine.

- Transparent / ethereal woodsy juniper fragrance that stays in the air and swirls around you like a breeze. Delightful. Like it, but it's one of those best worn during certain times. @GenevaX perfectly describes this fragrance.

Don’t know about the notes listed, but I mainly get a floral opening, followed by rhubarb/orange and sweet woods. It’s almost identical on drydown to Ormonde Jayne Xi’An. Nice, but not mind-blowing.

Love it! It's a clean-smelling scent in the opening, then it begins to become woody and icy sweet. It's pretty strong, but the price is too much.

just reads as a watery, clean floral to me. not bad, but not much going on with it, to my nose at least!

I remember liking this when I first tried it a long time ago but I just threw on my sample and it smells like the bloody metal in Inexcusable Evil? Hoping my sample isn’t bad.

Despite the notes listed, my nose picks up a watery, metallic, floral fragrance. Very unique but lovely. Its fresh, uplifting and refreshing but in a novel way that’s unlike anything I’ve smelled before. It’s deceptively masculine in that when it first hits your nose you get a very watery floral but soon it’s accompanied by a smooth metallic quality that dominates the fragrance rendering it very masculine. Surprisingly for a fresh watery fragrance, it works better in cooler weather. I wore it during the spring/summer and it was a cacophony of notes that smelled very abrasive and disjointed. But during the fall and winter, the cold air tones it down and refines the fragrance. Huge ‘like’, I really really like it but not a love. Definitely a try before you buy.

Not bad, but not my favorite from this line, which offers some exceptional fragrances. This one falls a little flat as all I get is some fizzy ginger ale mixed with lemon. This is similar to a lot of earthy fresh scents (Raw Spirit Citadelle comes to mind) but others do it better and for far less money. Again, this is not bad, but because many of Harmonist's creations blow me away, this one seems to pale in comparison. Thumbs sideways.

audibly woah'd with this one. first thought was that it's sweet, almost bubblegum-y, but the dry down is so good. there's smth aquatic nd cold abt this one, like a wet stone. def the metallic note's doing, but i've never smelled smth that did it This well. def unisex bc there's smth woody in its base. also, INSANE longevity. the scent was stuck on my shirt even after a wash somehow

My sixth and final Harmonist scent for the day. I have more but I’m frankly exhausted of being disappointed and smelling such unpleasantness. This is sour and metallic, reminds me of cleaning a very stubborn surface with cleaning solution and steel wool. If that’s something you want to smell like, this is for you. It makes my stomach churn.
