Velvet Fire

Great fragrance. Bought it for myself but my girlfriend steals sprays all the time lol. I find it interesting how this develops differently on different people's skin. Some get a garden, some get smoke, some get soap, some get musk, some say it's light enough to use in the summer, others say it should only be used in winter because it's heavy. It's a real shape shifter. Here's my take: I don't really detect much tobacco or oud, I think it's blended very well here and easy to wear. I don't get any smoke from my bottle either, more vanilla, lavender, saffron, wood, and a bit of white musk and cypress. t's not a heavy oriental so it can be worn in any weather or situation - very functional perfume. Performance from the house is strong. Only downside is it's expensive but the ingredients are very high quality and it smells natural. No traces of aroma chemicals. It smells expensive and kinda reminds me of the saffron the house Tom Ford uses. Easy reach, not challenging in the least bit

Incredible fragrance. I have been wearing it for a few days now and my mother asked me if I had started using a new fragrance because it smelled incredible. She noticed when I started wearing it immediately, it's a very distinct, pleasant scent that is neither overpowering nor muted. I particularly enjoy the scents of clary sage, which are pointed and exciting. I look for mystic, dark, masculine, and evocative scents and this fits the bill for me. I have a sampler right now but plan on purchasing a bottom of the scent in the near future. As other reviewers say, it smells expensive and quality made. A current favorite of mine.

I like this a lot. Very office wearable for a stronger fragrance. Warm rose floral opening. Softens quickly. Dry down is herbal and powdery. Some mint. Evergreen. A bit of spice. Strong projection. Great length. My experience varies from notes significantly. Definitely Fougere but with a kick. Expensive but a 1-2 spray fragrance with great performance.

This is pretty nice. It is fresh clean and powdery. I get green and aquatic notes probably from the cypress and clary sage. But the longer I sniff my wrist, I get more powdery and floral notes. I am not able to detect the lavender it claimed. I felt it deserved a 4.0 at least. Also, the longevity is a whopping 3 days if spraying on clothes.

In the opening, Velvet Fire smells like a deconstructed, less complex version of TF Fougere d'Argent. Very oriental. In the mid, it becomes more like YSL M7, taking on a more amber bent. I really like Velvet Fire, but because I already own these other fragrances, it would be redundant to buy it.

A true delight. Great for daytime and night. I was sad that it was only moderately long lasting. It settles in and stays awhile, warm, cozy, and with that delicious edge of musk that actually smells like musk that I thought was pretty much gone forever. I love it. A definite fall and winter.

The most delightful oud bomb ive ever smelled.

I'm testing the Harmonist discovery set blind. I haven't looked up anything about them: names, notes, etc. Starting with the white caps, this is the fourth one. Woodsy, smokey, green... I can only assume this is a vetiver based fragrance. There's an oily or oudy/amber base tone, with leathery smoky tones in the middle and more green pine on top. It's nicely blended in my view, not trying to be too coy with the vetiver (I'm assuming this is). Looking at the name and notes now, um, "velvet" sounds fitting, sure. "Fire"? I don't think so. It's too smooth and has an element of freshness (comparatively). I'm surprised it isn't vetiver, but the notes definitely combined into a lighter, cleaner, greener vetiver just the same. Not really one for being mesmerized by vetiver anyways, this is a welcome alternative. I enjoyed it more after the first hour, as it took on a faint sweetness later. Sillage remained respectfully moderate, but was more of a long lasting skin scent after a few hours. I could still smell it on my shirt after 15 hrs. If one considers sillage and longevity, and not just the scent as determinant factors for its value, to me the performance of this fragrance is what one should expect for the price point. An approachable luxury fragrance that lasts long.

Overall, its a bit too soapy for me to love it, but its very enjoyable none the less. It is very unisex -- but rather than embracing neither pole, it is a true combination of masculine and feminine. There are moments with a sharp aromatic edge that lean masculine, but its also very "pretty" especially in the middle and dry down. Easily wearable by any gender. The emotion I get is very uplifting, aromatic and expansive. Its highly reminiscent of a desert herb garden... turned into a desert herb garden inspired soap. :) The spray is a bit harsh, but dissipates almost immediately. I'm then transported to a dry herb garden -- coriander, sage and other woody herbs. After about 10 minutes, the lavender shows up and over the next 30 minutes becomes more and more herb soapy. Very expensive, artisan soap. :) I personally did not sense the middle notes — minimal to no tobacco, no cypress or petigrain and only a whisper of saffron. The dry down remains aromatic, but softens. Lasts 6-8 hours on my skin and longer on fabric. -- If you like expensive soaps & woody herb gardens, you will love this perfume!

I find beauty in every creation from this house, and this is no different! Not my usual cup of tea in terms of scent profile, and I think by any other house I wouldn’t even risk testing it- I knew this blend would be seamless and I wasn’t let down! This is an inviting, but sterile fragrance. Green and powdery (read: modern!), with a warm musky base. No sweetness, and dead in the middle in terms of a unisex scent. The opening is unique, I’m not sure how they made a “warm” forest-heavy scent- but they did! It’s abrupt and crisp. The dry down is long lasting, a hint of a peppery/barbershop feel, with a gentle oud undertone. I’m testing my way around Harmonists scents, and while this one pales in comparison to others in regards to the “wow” factor - it is safe and people pleasing, if you want to smell arguably “GOOD”, even if mildly non-descript... this is for you.

I like this a lot more than I thought! super woody, smoky, very mysterious. this perfume reminds me of a cool biker with lots of tattoos, wearing a leather jacket. as someone who typically wears feminine-marketed fragrances, this was super out of my comfort zone (but it worked)! the clary sage I think is my favorite part of the whole scent. lasts a great long while on my clothes, even though my skin eats it up. I can't justify paying full price for a bottle, but I like it enough to buy decants/partials when I can.

Fascinating how this plays out on my skin. The pyramid is almost reversed. I get a blast of oud, tobacco, and musk right upfront. About an hour later, the lavender, cypress, and saffron come into view as the tobacco and musk fade. A few hours later, it's all sage and oud. Sage and oud, what an interesting combination--it's refreshing to have an oud-forward fragrance that does not feature rose. I like this scent more than I expected that I would.

Coriander heavy start, & bright green citrus from the Petitgrain; sharp & peppery. Then with the lavender, it’s cleaner, warmer; a nutty citrus. It sweetens, but still dry & earthy. Lavender makes it a bit soapy, slightly powdery, but rounds the sharpness - so beautiful & sooo uplifting... this is stunning, and indeed “velvet” by the end.

Cozy, aromatic, woody, spicy. It has some aromatic lightness but it's a little thick at the same time (like velvet, I suppose). For colder months. Max 2 sprays is enough. Not sure if I'd wear it too work. Unisex, but leans slightly masculine.

If you want to smell like your grandma's spice cabinet, this is the one. I mean I literally found this while going through my closet lol. At first when I sprayed it, I thought I was getting floral and citrus, but once it calmed onto my skin I recognized the oud, woodiness, and spices. A little soapy, almost minty, very cypress and metallic spice. Definitely a masculine leaning unisex fragrance. Reminds me a lot of Eilish no. 3. I don't personally see myself wearing this, but I have to commend its uniqueness!

I love the opening. The clary sage note is really lovely and the lavender doesn't overpower. - By notes alone, this is one I would usually skip sampling if I was looking into obtaining samples. During the mid and base the fragrance gets deeper as the tobacco and oud notes come through, but they're tempered by the cypress and fresher notes. So the oud is nice and friendly This just blooms so nicely on skin. It becomes airy and balanced on the skin more so than on paper, which is also nice. fbw? idk

This scent has an odd name for a green fougere — Velvet Fire gives me mental images of smoke and old books. This is an entirely different vibe — a summer fragrance for people who love heavier “winterized” frags. In any event, most of the Harmonist scents are great, and this is worth a sniff if this sounds like your type of thing.

Mildly gnarly “cheap” bouquet of flowers mixed with coriander. Overly spiced.

This smells like every dentist office I have ever been to. Weird.

Average nothing interesting. Smells old school

Masculine-leaning spicy fragrance with a green and floral background. It’s not my personal preference, but I do think it is well-blended. Hefty price point.

irresistible blend of masculine and feminine. a true velvet fire, still smoking in memory long past its dousing. i wore this when i went back to my motherland for a week. outstanding in mediterranean weather and the staying power is insane. velvet fire will strut anywhere in her mary janes, miraculously maintaining their shine along the way. you will always find a little journal on her person and she scrawls endlessly her dreams and observations. wearing sailor cut pants a la jane birkin and humming one of her tunes. on most of her many walks she will linger around city parks, tracing lightly the engravings on old statues. tobacco tastes like honey when it's rolled by her. velvet fire is studious yet her wit will spark affection instantly. the tables in antique library study rooms, one last glass of liquor, lavender retired as wall decoration. 20s - 30s. 9/10

One of my favorites from the Harmonist lineup. I passed these over initially but coming back to them has me surprised at how unique and fresh they feel. This is like a very light version of Gucci Pour Homme II- fresh, a little spicy, with a very faint green tobacco paper aroma in the background. I'm picking up something a little salty in here too perhaps? verging on an olive note or some sharper kind of wood. Definitely light enough for summer, as it leans more breezy and aromatic than dense and heavy despite the listed oud and labdanum notes, which don't jump out at me. Very nice and now something I'm thinking about picking up.

This is something I would DEFINITELY purchase a full bottle of. This fragrance is subtle enough to wear on its own or layer with another fragrance. The floral notes are not overpowering and lend gentleness. The subtle tobacco note brings warmth and smokiness that is quite surprising and delicate.

smells like a room with wood flooring, a warm fire and floor to ceiling velvet curtains. winter outside, you're in a plush robe with an over-steeped cup of earl grey. there's a green sharpness and spiciness, like fresh cut flower stems in pepper. winter day time. dry down is fairly flat.

The first 30 minutes were a delight, very sparkly and interesting. The drydown is utterly flat and boring. So disappointing.

My nose must be boogered. All I get is a niche version of Burberry touch. With *zero* projection and a more feminine lean.

Good fragrance. Smells like another basic blue fragrance.

Smells like stale earl grey tea with a touch of cocoa.
