Red Storm

Red Storm? Nah. White Noise, or Grey Fog, or at a pinch Tangerine Pastel Mist, would describe it better. One of the most beautiful and flamboyant bottle designs I've ever seen sadly houses a very pleasant but disappointingly discreet and generic, smoothed-out, VERY gently ginger-spiced ambient sweetness. It's classy enough not to be all sugar - yes, despite the general lack of flair and zing, there are some ECHOES of dry, cinnamon-flecked tangerine peels, (definitely no stinging splatters of juice or real fruit though), some very distant rumbles of ginger powder, and some vaguely woody-powdery vanilla and musk warmth underlying it all. Its kinship to other THOO offerings like Dates Delight or Almond Harmony is detectable. Somehow, though, it never really reaches for the stars. Definitely not bad - it's not even distinctive enough to be a shocking disappointment, or a genuine dead loss. It's just so much duller than it should be for the house, the notes or the extraordinary price. (Got mine off eBay from a hospice sale, so it might have spent too long on a rich widow's window shelf - but if I'd paid the Harrods Exclusive price for this, smell unsmelled, I'd be pretty outraged at its apparent lack of ambition.) Even the most dedicated THOO or mandarin-scent fan could safely sit it out. (I'm still wearing and liking it, just with a slightly strange sense of duty rather than real spontaneous enjoyment...) One for those who love subtlety and are definitely not looking to make a dramatic impression. Sillage is extremely limited - more of a skin scent than anything else after only an hour or so's wear - but its longevity is maybe surprisingly good at up to 7h. Ho hum. Yeah, sure, fine, whatever.

Hey, trabuquera, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your review. I was really hoping for the best rich and spicy women's ginger perfume of all time. I will not pine for this any longer.
