I really do not get the bad reviews. To me, this is perfect for Maria Callas. I love the scent. The bottle is so her and the scent is so her - an elevated dramatic take on rose. To me, this is like a more fruity and rosey, and more feminine Santal Royal by Guerlain, but it is definitely also a unisex scent. Maria Callas had a beautiful voice, but many singers had a better range; they had better techniques, especially after the weight loss. What made her stand out was her artistic expression, her approach to her performances and recordings, and her elegance. So a different take on a classic composition with a mix of unvaried ingredients with more unique ones in a dramatic way and in such a bottle - it is a perfect fit for Maria Callas imo.

A modern classic. I feel glamorous and sophisticated wearing this gorgeous chypre. Juicy citrus notes blend seamlessly with rose, neroli and wood smoke. Easy to wear on all but the hottest of days. Strong, sensual and unique, a great tribute to La Divina ⭐️ It reminds me of Midnight Poison by Dior - not a dupe, but very similar opening and notes.

A true falling star, a diva past her prime, like a swan song en route to a broken heart. A glamorous scent if I’ve ever tried one. Slightly off putting in the beginning, but settles to a slightly powdery, woody rose. Great longevity and sillage.

Holy Neroli !!! I like it very much though not a perfume I wear often. I have to be in the mood. A more classical...almost a vintage quality apropos to Maria Callas herself & of her time.🎵

While the scent is incredibly beautiful, it smells like a generic lemon or citrus air refresher on my skin. It's surprising what myPH does to this fragrance. I will pass on this, but I'll try it on a couple of friends.

I had high hopes for this. What I inhaled was a basement budget hotel bathroom with no windows that has made the wall air freshener very pungent in the air.

Maria Callas by The Merchant of Venice is an elegant, slightly fruity and creamy woods scent with a unique akigalawood accord. The scent has been designed to reflect the multifaceted personality of opera singer Callas, and the scent itself is a re-imagining of a vintage chypre for a modern woman. The opening is vibrant and zesty with mandarin orange, sugared lemon and dry black pepper. The heart is more floral-centred with soft pink roses, neroli and jammy black currant. Retaining its feminine floralcy and the juiciness from the fruit accords, the drydown introduces akigalawood (a synthetic note that smells of patchouli and pepper), cedar, and georgywood (a woody-amber molecule). Maria Callas by The Merchant of Venice lasts a considerable time on skin, and the projection is moderate to strong, dependent on the number of sprays. Through many retailers, The Merchant of Venice is relatively expensive, however, in Australia this perfume can be found at discount pharmacies, where the price is greatly reduced.

To me, this perfume by Merchant of Venice, Maria Callas, doesn’t necessarily smell like a perfume that the diva herself would wear. Instead, it smells like the scents of her life—of the world that surrounded her, of her era. The first thing that comes to my mind is an old theater. It has a very woody smell, like the wood of the stage, the old wooden chairs, the upholstery, the curtains, and everything you would find in a grand theater from the 1950s or 1960s. When I smell this perfume, I can almost imagine walking into one of those beautiful old opera houses. I also imagine men in elegant suits wearing classic colognes, with tobacco and cigar smoke in the air, all blending together with the smell of polished wood and the theater itself. That’s exactly what this perfume smells like to me. To me, this fragrance is a representation of Maria Callas’s world, rather than Maria Callas herself. It captures the places where she performed, the atmosphere that surrounded her, and the era she belonged to. That’s what makes it so special to me.

I really wanted to love this but sadly no. On me it's very masculine smelling. Even my husband commented on it being masculine . I detect the lemon, black pepper and green notes then it's just a oud overdose . I don't detect any heart notes at all which is a pity as I feel the rose could have balanced this out better. While I knew this was going to be a wood heavy frangrace I didn't expect it to be so pungent with woods. If your a femine leaning wearer and a lover of florals then this is not for u.

It's nice but I didn't smell anything woody or dark in this fragrance. I mostly get the mandarin and neroli. It has a powdery quality to it too but ever so slightly. Going through the reviews, everyone has varying opinions so all I'll say is take this all with a grain of salt and go and spray it on your skin to test throughout the day because clearly none of us can be trusted haha.

On my skin it starts of very promising, then quickly turns into a typical masculine "blue" fragrance. To further that disappointment, it is not even a high quality "blue", more like a celebrity or drugstore version. This is very unlike TMoV, who have consistently had excellent quality fragrances. The bottle and packaging is gorgeous, as usual.

Maria Callas, what she have to do with this generic rose-fruity almost ordinary parfum? IMHO nothing, rien, nada, niente. Maria deserved something a lot better...

Smells dated. Fruity, floral but much heavier than I would have wanted or expected. Reminiscent of the 90s and eternity by Calvin Klein era. Pass for me.
