Rosa Turchia

I read an article here a few years ago about the Accordi line of fragrances from The Merchant of Venice. At the time they were not yet available in the US, but I have recently noticed them being sold on eBay and various gray market sites. I was particularly drawn to the rose and tuberose scents, but I decided to only purchase the rose fragrance as I was wary of the inexpensive price. But I'm happy to find this fragrance is a nice surprise. As the name suggests, this scent is spot on - it smells exactly like the expensive Turkish rose absolute sold at the health food store near me but diluted into perfume form. I'm a bit perplexed by that, as I fail to understand why a perfumer was even needed if that is all this is. There are no other notes present that I can smell, and certainly no base notes either - just pure Turkish rose. So, I don't understand what the perfumer, Carine Boin, did here, aside from diluting an absolute. What I smell is Turkish rose and only Turkish rose. And just like a real Turkish rose, it is rich and deep with a touch green, and a perfect balance of spice and honey sweetness. It is very true to the actual flower. So realistic in fact, that my sister said I smelled like a rose garden when I walked by. 😊 She thought it was beautiful, and so do I. Considering that this fragrance is much more affordable than a pure absolute, I am impressed by its overall quality. I had never tried any fragrances from The Merchant of Venice before, and I was not particularly interested due to the mixed reviews, especially regarding performance. However, I can attest that performance is not an issue with this fragrance. It performed wonderfully all day. I'm hoping the same can be said for other fragrances in this line, as I plan on trying a few more of them soon, particularly the tuberose and tonka. Overall, I can't say enough good things about this inexpensive gem. If you are a rose lover, you should give this a try. You might be as impressed as I am right now.

This is a very realistic turkish rose, with no extra scents in the way. It was part of the "Accordi di Profumi" line which was made for layering, hence the single note composition. This line was much more affordable than the rest of the MoV offerings. However it is amazing as a standalone fragrance! The concentration feels pretty potent and not some diluted rosewatery thing. It is a real shame that it was discontinued! It was a real standout at a very good price.
