Everlasting

Ah cistus, what a note! I was expecting something more sticky/resinous/sweet, whereas here I'm mostly reminded of a D.S.& Durga-like apothecary's cabinet. It's an amber on the bottom, but deeply balanced by camphor notes combined with something of oak moss (both woody and "dusty"), even a little white floral veil, a kind of daffodil bouquet, or snowdrop, after a cold and long walk in the forest. It's also very "natural perfumery", which I appreciate a lot (nothing in there makes you plunge into a terrible headache). It's a very pleasant surprise on my end, and I'm really starting to appreciate how Laudamiel is working all these notes into this "counter" brand perspective. Here, at least, I'm seduced by the picture. I highly recommend it.

I bought sampler packs of The Zoo right before my city went into quarantine so I spent some time really taking in all of the scents. This is tied for my favorite. There is something so... sexy, masculine, slightly animalic. The notes blend in really well together; at times I smell narcissus, other times the labdanum, and I'm sure many synethics. Lasts for a very long time. Now that our city is out of quarantine, I have received a few compliments on it already. Definitely one of my new favorites.

Bought my bottle this weekend at Perfumarie in NYC. This Fragrance really is a Masterpiece - A new twist on Amber/Chypre. Great longevity and moderate sillage. Not as linear as Luca Turin described; I detect different notes coming forward as the scent wears on. I must try for everyone!

Adore this fragrance. I feel kinda bashful saying this, but it constantly reminds me of the 90s-era CK Obsession for Men. It's such a thick and cinnamon-y amber, I can't help but be transported back to when Obsession was worthy of actual obsession.

Laudamiel lists this perfume in his “on the mission” line. Personally, I never liked to wear perfumes only for missions but rather enjoy them as companions that add some magic in my rather normal everyday life. Being always fascinated by the work of Christophe, an intelligent and talented perfumer, I was eagerly anticipating the perfumes when news of his personal line arose. In general, blind buying isn’t something I indulge anymore however in this case I couldn’t hold myself and pulled the trigger aiming for Everlasting a scent described as a modern, dark chypre with narcissus substituting classic moss. Indeed this description is correct. Everlasting is a stifling, musky amber scent with an abstract smoky, aromatic aftershave undertone and some florals which works as a sort of modern-day, sexier Rive Gauche. I haven’t the faintest clue where this immediately granting and compelling accord stems from or how it succeeds in remaining so adoringly stable for hours, but perhaps that’s the whole point of perfumery as magic. Everlasting is a sophisticated, virile perfume that smells disturbingly familiar and reassuring although totally novel. If the rest of the Zoo perfumes are of the same velocity, then this line is bound to reach very high altitudes.

Labdanum is by far the most prominent note here, which was a surprise to me upon wearing. It's almost chewy and sticky (like Bruno Fazzolari's Ummagumma) but bitter, earthy, musky, somewhat green, and not sweet. I expected a narcissus flower note, but a bit of reading taught me that narcissus in women's chypres of yesteryear was more of a green, dark, earthy smell, somewhat like oakmoss (and not like Dame Perfumery's Soliflore Narcissus). This is a very nice blend of notes, which evokes a classically-styled, but pared-down nonetheless, vintage chypre. Other reviewers seem to consider this masculine or unisex, but from what I know about classic chypres, this would have been considered the peak of femininity 50-75 years ago.

This is a darkly beautiful scent. It's rough and heavy, all labdanum and resins and smoke. While not listed in the notes, there's a sweetness here that almost resembles cinnamon. It's a sexy and, while listed as unisex, very masculine scent. I still wear it, but I'm aware that it makes me smell like a mysterious gentleman of discerning taste, which is fine by me. My only caveat is that it's extremely thick, bordering on suffocating, so it's best applied with a light hand and in colder months.

The main player here is labdanum, but in a special way. It’s a bit reminiscent of ELDO de Sade, but here it’s multifaceted with other things happening in the front (and behind). Very libidinally (can also be cozy) resinous. Mastery, no doubt. No gender, but for a certain personality. Laudmiel really is not just a top perfumer, but an innovator. Just as others observe, familiar themes, but made differently.

This is really nice - just like the previous reviewer said, huge blast of labdanum right from the open, probably centered as a note more in this fragrance than any other I've smelled. The super forward labdanum over the top of the lightly sweet amber makes this a really unique scent - may look into getting an FB.

Labdanum-heavy LDDM clone mixed with a dash of generic men's amber (e.g., The One). Pleasant but redundant. 6/10 This has been another edition of "LittleDinkums Reductive Reviews."

I really like Laudmiel's perfumery, this one is very nice. Smart.
