Fin de Siècle

Despite the seemingly rubber-forward accord that it might have, I went ahead and blind bought this.... Initially, upon opening, a heavy rubber/hot latex accord is apparent, but it’s quickly followed by a very tuberose-forward, blackberry accord note, although it’s not necessarily so grossly unbearable. Then, you can make out a cedar/rose-bias latex a bit more into the drydown, and clearly the rose slowly becomes ever so slightly more prominent, with a faintly mossy facet. The musk so far, is pretty minimal, but it’s there—much how I would like Scent Tattoo from The Zoo to smell like (not half the profile), preferably. + 1 * Clean -> [100/100] [changed to Clean b/c it's clean leaning] Of course, I can’t forget the premise of me buying this frag—an in-your-face, clean leaning rubber. This is probably as close to as a “new, clean rubber tire” as you’re gonna get, without being too noxious for wear (though I personally have little regard for "wearability"). LOVE IT!!! Arguably, you could make this sensation out in the beginning, but it’s a bit clearer once the top notes subside. So thus in the drydown, it comes off as a rubbery (of the Caoutchouc variant as expected) frag, with a cedar+rose bias. The rose here does not come off in any way feminine; it’s artfully blended in with the cedar accord to give a clean rubber impression. I actually can see myself alternately preferring Fischersund No. 54, then this. No 54 has a somewhat overbearing ammonia accord, while this makes the rubber clearer. It’s not quite a noxious rubber (though I kinda wished it was)—it’s actually a presentable, raw rubber, and not quite in the same way as Scent Tattoo either (it's equally tame, but actually a bit aldehydic). Arguably however, it does teeter into the noxious realm, and this is probably due to becoming temporarily blind of the rose/cedar notes, or them subsiding, but it's never as "offending" as the opening in Leatherize by DSDurga. Also, this profile is mostly what I expected from The Mechanic by Saint Giles, but never got. Definitely a new close favorite, and a blind buy that I don’t regret. Commendable work by Karol Jaskowiak! Bonus points that the drawstring bag it comes in and the design suit my liking :-) It's only 30mLs so it lends itself to being portable; that way you can reapply as you wish. Forethought: As a rubber/leather head, this is a rather tame, approachable direction to rubber. If you like frags like Tom Ford OL/TL (the OG versions, or any "formal clean" frag for that matter), you should definitely give this frag a shot.

The opening hits hard with an industrial blast of rubber and hot latex, evoking a tire workshop. As it develops, a restrained tuberose slowly appears, joined by a faint touch of blackberry. Woods and a muted rose sit in the background, keeping the composition dark, and dense. This is a heavy scent that needs time to unfold. Three to four sprays are enough, and it’s best to wait at least 1h before leaving the house. Difficult, demanding, but deeply rewarding for those who appreciate bold, conceptual perfumery. Love it!

A very aromatic perfume, deep and penetrating with overwhelming earthy notes, a subtle blackberry acidity, and a delicate floral accord. A plastic-rubber aura that lasts for twelve hours and still projects strongly. Incredible quality.

I ordered this very curious about the rubber and blackberry blend, sadly even though both notes are very photorealistic they’re kind of overshadowed by the tuberose and what smells like elderflower to my nose. It’s an intriguing scent but it didn’t draw me in to smell it more. Overall the quality and scent profile are great! I just wish the florals didn’t feel so overpowering

Absolutely unwearable, rubber dominates everything.

🚲Bicycle Workshop 🚲 Tires and inner tubes hanging everywhere, smelling of rubber and synthetic materials. These aren't perfumes. This is an experiment in a bottle. Smells like burnt tire, vulcanization shop, everything rubbery and unpleasant. Flowers? What flowers? There's only rubber, rubber and more rubber. Absolute madness for masochists. @the.scent.files
