I went out and got the PB version of this after reading reviews that it was better than the signature version and well i do like this ALOT !!!!! But im not gonna lie it smells alot like drakkar noir to me for some reason it smells like it not exactly the same this is a more smooth upscale version of it in my opinion but this is my inital experience with it i just sprayed it on my wrists and back of my hand about 20-30 mins ago so im sure this will change quite a bit over the next few hours but i do like this stuff it is all man it is manly def a barbershop manly scent nothing unisex about it in my opinion it would be best suited for winter/fall it reminds me of a late fall night stepping outside and smelling the air and someone burning a certain type of wood in their fireplace but i cant think of the type of wood it is but it smells like that to me well a note in this smells like that at least all n all so far so good but will update later after a full days wear ...like i always day this is MY OPINION and the way it will smell on your skin or what you think may differ quite a bit because we are all diffrent amd have diffrent chemistry and what i think or another person or the next person think means nothing it matters what YOU think and how it meshes with YOU cuz ur chemistry is diffrent so get a decant sample or possible go to a store and spray it on yourself not a card because it will react differently on your skin than paper because ur skin is not made of paper or your clothes correct ???? Beau de Jour marks another great release from the Tom Ford Private Blend line in the wake of Fougere d'Argent, another creation that blends the modern and the classic in a seemingly heavy-handed nod to classic men's fragrances of decades past. The key note in the fragrance is fresh, sharp lavender, further sharpened by geranium, with the herbal touch of rosemary, and supporting anchors of patchouli and amber. There are a few other additives but these are the main players that factor into my perception of the fragrance. Again, to compare to FDA, as there's a natural sort of continuity, BDJ is sharper and a little more challenging to wear, but feels more like an "daytime all-day" fragrance, while FDA feels more apropos at night, and is slightly sweeter and overall easier to wear. Moreover, BDJ, like, FDA, is a great performer, not in the uppermost tier of the Tom Ford Private Blend line (a high standard, for something, like Tobacco Vanille). And, at $235 for 50ml, it's good that interesting new offerings are still in what is the LOWER tier of pricing for Private Blends, contra the higher end at $320 for 50ml. There are plenty of deals to be had on secondary markets or Facebook enthusiast groups. Overall, a great release, and I hope to see more like these from Tom Ford, though I wonder how many they can realistically churn out like this and FDA without being too redundant. 8 out of 10

Full disclosure - I've never been a fan of Tom Ford's fragrances. I find most of the private blend scents to be derivative and unoriginal, not to mention hideously overpriced. But with Beau de Jour, I've finally found a TF fragrance that feels comfortable and captures my imagination. This fragrance is a throwback, as others have suggested, to fougeres of days' past. I have no doubt that some will find it to be overwhelmingly reminiscent of barber shops and their grandfathers. However, this is a masculine lavender that deftly manages to thread the needle between elegance and nostalgia. BdJ references fragrances like Rive Gauche, Fougere Royale, and even Drakkar Noir without feeling like a doppelganger of any of them. It shares a minty topnote with another excellent modern fougere, Chanel Boy. But BdJ is also much deeper and darker than Boy, having more in common with the rich lavender found in Kilian's A Taste of Heaven. The interplay here between the effervescent top note, the green mid-notes, and the ever-present lavender never feels forced or heavy-handed. I consistently feel the ghost of fougeres past here, but it also exudes a freshness that doesn't feel dated at all. I still find this stuff to be rather pricey, but it is a home run as far as I'm concerned. I'd love to see more quality releases like this from TF!

When modern meets classic!! A modern gentleman's scent! A masterpiece! I usually don't like fougeres at all but this is not just a fougere. It has this classic fougere dna that reminds an older guy's fragrance bus this is a modern take on this dna that has no age and someone younger could easily wear it. This laventer is AMAZING, so natural smelling, fresh, sweet and alluring. We had a lot of lavender on our backyard and everytime i was passing by i was catching with my hands the laventer, this is the smell my hands had after but with pathcouli, some mint that makes it fresh and with some sweetness from the amber. It comes very masculine to me but a bold woman could wear this. It's very versatile, a signature scent, perfect for a casual or formal ocassion, any time of the year, day or night. Perfomance is very good, about 8+ hours longevity with very good and piercing projection. It's so unique that everyone notices you but i would suggest 1-2 sprays on summer because it can get cloying. In comparison with the signature's line beau de jour for me is the same, maybe the PB has one hour more longevity. Overall, a masterpiece, the best fougere i've ever smelled! Now, thankfully, this is in the signature line and is more affordable. If you like fougeres give it a try and if you don't (like me) give it a try too.. :)

Fantastic news for fougere lovers: as already mentioned, this is now available as part of the signature line (think Grey Vetiver bottle, Ombre leather shaped).Ordered mine already, looking forward to testing it. I love fougeres myself and am really happy that Tom Ford has been targeting this category recently. Perfect timing also, now that Rive Gauche is gone. The note pyramid is exactly the same as the Private Blend version so if no major differences in performance, this will get a lot of interest from those who like Rive Gauche and Zino or simply those looking for a clean, elegant, "sharp dressed" scent. I see it as a 30+ scent, not so much for the younger crowds, who I think would be more interested in Grey Vetiver. As is my experience with the PB line, longevity is great on my skin. This is not a linear fragrance (common criticism of PBs,) I really enjoy its progression from the fresh lavender opening to the warm patchouli and amber drydown, strengthened by the rosemary, basil and oakmoss in the heart. The mint is very subtle and adds freshness to the opening. Some similarities to Patchouli Absolute in character, which I also own and love, with BdJ being lighter in the opening and warmer in the drydown. My partner loves both on me and wears Patchouli Absolu herself but considers BdJ too masculine-leaning.

i first acquired the new signature formulation and then a 50ml of the black bottle, because i was curious whether i could detect a difference. i did sniff test on each forearm. while my untrained nose did not sense too great a difference at the time, i kept getting a softer/rounder feeling from the original. since i knew which arm was which, did i have some sort of prejudice? however, yesterday, i spritzed some black bottle and really really found it compelling. this did not happen when i had worn the 100ml signature version. i like the signature, but it did not hit me the same way. of course, weather, mood, etc, etc,(the host of variables) may have obscured that the formulations are just about the same. in any event, i found some back-up black bottles on ebay and am happy that i can safely use them without worrying too much of running out quickly. glad i stocked up on the black bottle. all in all, this, for me, is day wear maybe business casual or a little more serious. it doesn't carry me away to exotic lands or dreamy reveries but is sobering and clear headed. with or without jacket and tie, it can go most places. of course, the signature being so close (if not the same) works as well.

Smelled TF Private Blend Beau De Jour immediately upon its release & immediately sprang for the 250ml. It's absolutely fantastic. Perhaps my favorite take on fougere, & definitely my all-time favorite Tom Ford release. The bold lavender, herbs & mint really do it for me. This instantly became my latest "signature" scent, & I loaded up upon it being discontinued. TFPB BDJ = 10/10. The TF Signature BDJ... Well, it's really good too, but it's not the Private Blend BDJ. It seems pretty dead-on at first... They replicated the opening remarkably well... However the mids & base notes just aren't there by comparison, so Signature BDJ is less bold with a shorter life. They also significantly amped up the mint to achieve this - So much so, that by the time I am getting anywhere near the same effect with TF Signature BDJ, I'm literally tasting mint, & the rest just doesn't stand up to it like it does in PB BDJ. Still a great buy for the money, great gift & very respectable fragrance. I literally can't knock it, & if not for wearing 100ml of PB BDJ in 2019, I'd be giving this closer to a 9 or 10. It's awesome! TFS BDJ = 8/10. Don't sleep on Fougere D'Argent & Platine, either! Both are great!

I own both the PB version and the new version. This scent opens with lavender backed by spices and geranium. It's super well-blended and is undoubtedly barbershop but doesn't scream old man (although I'd say most guys under 25 might find this to be not to their taste). It's another classic work/office scent. I find the lavender fades a bit after an hour and you're left with a nice, solid woody/spicy/ambery backbone with a hint of lavender. A comparison to the new version: on the open, I get more of a rich lavender from the PB bottle but, honestly, after an hour the two, side by side, are identical. I've smelled/owned hundred (probably a thousand+ in terms of smelled) and I cannot pick up a difference in dry down. Makes me wonder if they just used a less expensive lavender oil for the new bottle. Longevity on the PB BdJ is strong at 8-10 hours on my skin with a few hours of strong sillage. Longevity is about the same on the new BdJ, too. An 8.25/10 for me. Must buy if you can grab it on discount from the Estee Lauder shops.

I think this is my favorite from Tom Ford together with Fougere D'Argent. Beau de Jour is so sophisticated, a bit mature in the barbershop powerhouse genre but not at all dated IMO. It has modern touches especially towards the drydown. It opens up quite harsh and herbal (rosemary), lavender-patchouli-mint-geranium-oakmoss combo but quickly sits down into this very rich masculine scent. I was surprised to see the listed notes as when I think of them together. You get the best type of lavender which screams quality and the patchouli is blended to perfection, not the dirty kind but a very safe one. Of course, need to give credit to Davidoff - Zino here since this one is clearly a more refined and slightly cleaner version of it. Zino can be found below 20 euros for 125ml, so hard to justify. Etro - Magot is another one leaning more unisex that is very similar. The drydown is the best part, and this just lasts and lasts with very acceptable projection. IG: @talkaboutscents

Used to consider this a Fougère, but these days I categorize it as half Fougère, half Chypre. Beau de Jour successfully balances and bridges the gap between both of these genres. There are some notes missing in the pyramid, such as cardamom, pepper, and saffron, but for the most part, you'll get: shaving foam, bitter herbs, and patchouli -- in that order. The dry down becomes very herbal and patch dominant, so if you're not a fan of moss and patchouli in general, chances are you won't like this. Compared to the Signature, this version is more dense, richer, and ultimately more dimensional. It feels darker, too, which I find works perfectly for fall, winter, and night life. Surprisingly, there are still bottles of the Private Blend available, so I would grab one of these instead of the Signature iteration while you still can. This is one of the few last satisfying TF compositions before many were discontinued and butchered by Estée Lauder.

Beautiful perfume.. Heavy dose of lavender and rosemary but it has a fresh twist with all the mint which is present. Great performer. 12-13 hours later I can still feel it. Yes it reminds me of Rive Gauche although BdJ is much more wearable. RG has lots if cloves which have been replaced with mint in BdJ. Update; I have worn it for 4 days straight and I am addicted!! This is freaking amazing. It is not the opening, this perfume only kicks in after 30 minutes as the mid and base notes start, once it blends and warms up with the skin. In fact, I do not think the opening is that great. But then it turns very herbal, soothing and calming. I am seriously considering getting a 250 ml bottle of this. It would be the first TF of that size that I get. Also, better get it now before they start to mess with the formulation and water it down.

I picked up a 250ml of the original formulation while the getting was good & man I'm so glad I did. I don't care what anyone says, the original is far superior to my nose. It lasts longer, projects more & has more depth. Could be a direct result of maceration, who knows. All I do know is "I LOVE THIS JUICE!" Once again Tom Ford knocks it out of the park! I get the most incredible fresh, green, mossy forest vibe mixed with a little bit of dirt from the patchouli &/or amber. The lavender is the star player here but definitely anything but linear. As with most TF frags I've tried, this is master perfumery at its finest. The dry down is heavenly. Projection and sillage is above average, lasting throughout the better part of my day @10+ hours easy. Definitely a mature scent that leans masculine. Got to try this one if you haven't.

I think Tom Ford's inspiration for this scent came from the french '60s classic 'Belle de Jour' with Catherine Deneuve. A married woman that is quite bored with her marriage and husband and wants new experiences, so she ends up in a brothel. Now, this being targeted towards gentlemen, I get a Richard Gere in 'American Gigolo' vibe. A well dressed man, well spoken and well groomed. A sophisticated playboy vibe. I've bought it a month ago and honestly it's one of the best scents I've ever smelled. It's just perfect. I love it in a way because it reminds of my father and grandfather shaving in the morning when I was a little kid. Image I get when I smell this: Purple sky when its not day or night, it's in-between; purple fields; luxury mansion; sophisticated playboy driving a Ferrari at sunset in Miami.

I don't get the comparisons to Zino at all. Think Rive Gauche with added amber and a hint of mint. No amber or mint in Zino. This is an improvement on Rive Gauche in every way. I rarely get compliments on fragrances but have had at least 4-5 on this one with one young lady and a guy friend both asking for the name and where they could buy it. Highly recommend this one. Performance is very good for me. Some days I think it's not projecting too far but then others can still smell it. I get wafts of it for at least 7-8 hours and can still smell it fairly strongly on clothing the next day. 5 star fragrance for me and I really hope the reviewer below is correct about this coming to the Signature Tom Ford line as it should be a bit lower in price for a 100ml bottle.

The 1967 French movie "Belle de jour" ("Beauty of the day") uses this expression as a pun to tell the story of a beautiful young woman who spends her daytime working as a high-class prostitute in the afternoon. Now, in 2019, Tom Ford coins an all-new masculine nickname "Beau de jour" - describing a man, not a woman, that blossoms during the day. To me, this name is a pun that tells us how seeming opposites may be closely related like two sides of the same coin. Feminine and masculine. Day and night. Stylish and sexy. And, certainly, I hope this is how the fragrance makes all of us feel. Like our own, individual, unique blends of different contrasts. Very high-class.

I recently acquired a sealed bottle of the private blend from 2018. I already had the signature line and couldn’t pass the opportunity to own the PB too. I will start by saying there is a marginal difference between the two. The PB is a little stronger and longer lasting. Both have that amazing lavender and herbal quality upon the opening. You get a blast of patchouli but the is stronger in the signature line. The PB has a touch more of the amber in the base which props up the lavender. I get around 9/10 hours of longevity, projection is around an arms length, this scent will leave a trail which is intoxicating. Very masculine, perfect for all weathers. One of my favourite fragrances of all time. Scent 10/10 Sillage 7/10 Longevity 8/10

I find it almost impossible not to at least 'like' this. However, I find it hard to find any real, substantial similarities between this and Rive Gauche. More so in mood and wearability than in scent, but even in scent the similarities are few and far between. Rive Gauche (long tin bottle I had for several years) smelt nothing like lavender to me, and all I sadly got was mint and anise. There was a 'barbershop' scent that is apparently lavender, but it smelt nothing like the plant. This, however, does. And more. There's a courmarin type of sweet creaminess that aids the lavender and makes this far heavier than Rive Gauche ever was. Lasts better too. I prefer this, so much much more. I don't like the price, but I adore the scent.

I feel it has the floral dark base of Noir once it starts to dry down. It is way more minimal than the Noir, which gives it very contemporary edge. It is a remarkable fragrance that I loved since the first sniff. I find it very all around scent, as it could be worn in the summer and winter, formal and casual. It is slowly becoming my signiture scent. As a person who used the Noir and Tuscan Leather as main fragrances, this one is a great hit for me. I find it aromatic with touch of powder smell and barber influences. It is very contemporary fragrance with elements which respect the past, this fragrance is the way 2019 smells and feels like so far. It is definitely masculine and vibrant smell.

Have to review this since it has just been demoted from Private Blend to the Signature line. I have a sample from one of the first batch of the PB. The note pyramid is a bit different to me: it opens with fresh green notes of mint and basil. Then appears a mix of the the other notes except the lavender which takes more time to come to the front stage (at least 30 min). The dry down is more about oak moss and amber than patchouli to me, while still keeping a metallic lavender now in the back stage. It's a modern aromatic fougere, very masculine, lasts all day. I'm happy it's been demoted so that the price reflects quality. Let's hope the juice stays the same.

Update after getting the new version: It is exactly the same scent and still an amazing one! What a classy, strong, easy to wear scent! It is one of these TD Private Collection that seems to directly connect with the nervous system pleasure center. It is so smooth, pleasant and potent at the same time. It is not a power fougere in the sense of brashness and out of this world explosion on the opening. It does project and last very strongly though but in an almost effervescent fashion. After a few hours wearing it, i can confirm that the longevity i strong! It also greatly reminds me of Primas from Navitus but a bit detuned in terms of depth and complexity.

God I love Tom Ford!!! He is literally a genius and throws out masterpiece after masterpiece. Breathing this in, I get the feeling of fresh woods, earth and pine. Greenery erupting from the ground as the last grey touches of winter give way to a cold rainy spring morning. The delicate touch of lavender and tree moss float gently through the air. On me this stuff lasts like a power blast. Four sprays and and I leave a trail lingering behind me for hours. It seems like every Tom Ford scent I really like; Italian Cypress, Noir Anthracite, Tobacco Oud and this beauty get discontinued. This scent gets a big fat love from me.

Love, love LOVE this scent! Omg, why on earth was it ever discontinued? I just received a small bottle from scent split yesterday and it wore on me so beautifully for HOURS! honestly, I think that if I hadn't showered before bed, I probably would have still smelled it on myself the following morning *haha* Its such a classic sexy fragrance -- I sprayed it on myself and told my partner I smelled like a barbershop in PNW forest *haha*. I just bought a bottle of the 2020 edition and I really truly hope it smells at least close to this perfect original. I'm pretty sure my partner and I will be sharing this one.

Applied two half sprays behind each ear last night around 22:00 and now it's 11:53 and I can still smell the bubble around me. When I applied it, I almost could taste in the back of my throat, but after 20 minutes it calmed down to this purple and hazy spiciness and a slightly sweet, chocolaty textured patchouli. Probably one of the best scents Tom Ford put on the market and he discontinued it, only to release it back in the signature line, watered down and with no depth. You might think I'm exaggerating or bullshitting here, but you have to put your nose on this and you'll understand the difference.

I bought this as soon as it came out in 2019. I barely used 10ml out of my 50ml bottle, this shit is nuclear. You know that bs when you spray a perfume in the air and just walk through the mist ? That’s what I do with this one. If I take the cap off the bottle it fills the whole room. Smell wise is the best fougere I’ve ever smelled in my life. It’s old school and modern at the same time, it’s fresh and warm. The patchouli and amber in the private blend it’s so pronounced in the drydown and that’s what the signature misses, they just filled it with amber woods. Grab a bottle if you get the chance.

One of the best barbershop scents I've smelled so far. This fragrance smells very heavily of herbs, woods, and patchouli; pure masculine goodness. Performance is pretty good and it definitely screams springtime. I haven't tried the clear bottled version, but something tells me that the private blend might just be a little more richer in the aroma. Old school inspired which is what I like about the scent. One or two sprays is needed when wearing during the warmer months due to its boldness. Scent: 9 / 10 Projection: 8.5 / 10 Longevity: 8.5 / 10

Beau de Jour is a very modern take on barbershop/fougere scents. I would even go so far as to call it avant-garde. The double dose of lavender on top is deliciously creamy. The dry down is among the best I've ever experienced. There is something strangely addicting about this release. I can't stop sniffing my wrist when I'm wearing it. As with most Tom Ford creations, the price is exceptionally high, but when I love a scent as much as this, sometimes the investment is worth it. Scent: 9.5/10 Longevity: 9/10 Projection: 8/10 Price: 4/10

#108 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Someone was under the impression this was discontinued and I had no trouble buying it. It is absolutely one of the best Tom Ford has to offer and one of the best aromatic fougeres I've encountered .And if you like this, and any man should, Zino Davidoff duplicates this scent veery closely and is a potent EDT. If Zino were available in EDP I'd say save your money, but it isn't. Woody, mossy, great projection and longevity. Utterly masculine and classy. Worth the $150 to me.

I have a full flacon of this and it's almost done. I have not decanted any of this. Should speak towards how I feel about this. If we could resurrect the Greek gods and have them create a fragrance for a gentleman in his suit and tie in the 21st century, it would resemble this. On a more serious note, I actually like the signature version quite a bit too. Minor differences, but the main being that one wears a bit airier/fresher. This one lasts longer on me than the new release hence my points go here.

I hate fougere. But this is the only fragrance that made me appreciate fougere because it doesnt smell like grandpa. It is a modern fougere, even the drydown has a pleasant aromatic mint. You can smell the complexity and the quality and it is still pleasant. It smells very handsome, well put together, well groomed men, unlike other fougere (that smells someone stayed and slept inside the barbershop for a whole month). Definitely my next purchase. This is so beautiful, elegant, and classy.

Beau de Jour is Tom Ford`s take on classic men`s barbershop scent. The resemblance to YSL Rive Gauche is definitely present but Beau de Jour is a modernized version of Rive Gauche with better quality ingredients. Also the drydown of Beau de Jour has more amber and patchouli typical for most Tom Ford fragrances. Of course the star of this scent is lavender and its probably the best lavender scent that I`ve encountered so far. Beau de Jour is Tom Ford impeccable suit and tie in a bottle!

Wonderful. The best TF release in many years. He's had some good ones - but honestly this is at the top of an already long list of recent Tom Ford favorites. Lavender and Spice would be my short go to note description. A clean shaven, expensive suit wearing, well groomed gentleman comes to mind. This is office safe and something you could wear year round all season long. I imagine this blends very well with Tuscan Leather, Tobacco Oud and Amber Absolute. 10/10 for me.

This is a smooth polished, minty, and modern Fougere. Elegant lavender, crushed herbs, mint, and mossy patchouli. The epitome of class, cleanliness, and virility. The new Signature formulation is flatter, not as dense, and a lot sweeter. The base is amped up with amber eventually ruining the scent profile with overdone sweetness. The PB version is perfectly balanced, more herbal, and third-dimensional -- it also lasts and projects a lot longer.

Received a sample from my local Saks, and WOW! Is this juice good. It has the sophistication of a classic barbershop scent with an added note of mint to give it a bright freshness to it. On my skin, it's a beautiful mix of mint, patchouli, and amber, that takes me back to when I was a kid getting my haircut from the corner barber my dad would go to.

One of the best barbershop scents out there and for me far an away the best lavender scent. Almost sniff the skin off my arm when I wear this shit. It is indeed denser and longer lasting than the signature. I thought I got about 8 or 9 hours out of this until someone said I smelt great after 13 hours. Have a 100ml Bottle and a 250ml decanter.

Already left a review but just wanted to leave another with regards to longevity. I've always thought it was around 8 hours until I got compliment 2 days in row at 12 and 14 hours later. Also noticed that when your body heats up it really becomes noticable again like it has literally just been sprayed. Same happens when you go in the shower.

This is a stunning fougere. Its lighter on the spice/patchouli than most of my top tier fougeres, and its a nice change. Its bright and uplifting. I got about 3 hours out of it with a arm's length projection. I wish it was a little stronger. Ill probably pick up a bottle if I can spend less than $2/ml

I've read somewhere that the private blend will be discontinued. A guy from another site emailed the TF costumer service and this was their reply: "I am sorry to inform you that the Beau de Jour is being phased out, once the stock level has been depleted it will be discontinued." :(

This is a must buy. Not the Re released version. The Private Blend. (discontinued) This fragrance will stand the test of time and become more popular as it ages. Clean:Crisp:Earthy:Deep:Fresh:Woody:Wonderful. So Lame how all of these Private Blends are being discontinued.

Blast of Lavender on open. Quickly mends with basil and mint. On dry down, a bit of earthiness sets in. This fragrance somehow accomplishes being incredibly sharp without being harsh. Beautiful fougere. FYI: Better than the signature line absolutely.

I got a dupe of this 10/10 fragrance. It’s amazing. One of the best masculine perfumes, but still possible for a feminine woman to wear. It’s a universally pleasing woody, smoky scent. Would be a perfect home scent too. You can’t go wrong with this.

This is magic. I'm in love with this fragrance.two sprays and it will last hours and project few. It reminds me when my father used to shave every morning while I prepare to school. This is the kind of fragrance who reminds you your family.

What an amazing scent! Brings a very specific type of person in mind. A high class, well-mannered, educated but incredibly sexy type ! Old school barber shop scent, very well blended and utterly dashing. I love it.

I end up layering this one with Tuscan Leather and the result is magnificent. Very manly, very bold. M. Though the weather is hot, so maybe go gentle on the TL, but they work together perfectly.

The difference between the private blend version and the signature line version isn't exaggerated, it's massive. This smells OUTSTANDING. Lavender + patch + aromatic masterpiece

Such a beautiful scent. This was the first Tom Ford I paid close to retail for. The performance is great , the scent is uplifting and it’s very versatile.

Spray this and TV over holy smokes it smells like a minty hot chocolate it’s so good.

Timeless, chic in the same category as the lavender extreme just more complicated!

A high-end, non-gourmand version of Mugler's A*Men Pure Lavender.
