Reserve Collection: Bois Marocain

Snagged a 2022 bottle...yes, Rush immediately came to mind, so I compared them and they do extremely similar things. Rush had to have been at least a reference point or mentioned when creating this. I compared it to my Rush and you can’t deny the connection. I’m honestly thrilled and a bit surprised this got such a mass release, it’s a musty woody green retro scent and I love it. Even if it isn’t a long lasting scent(Rush wasn’t a beast either), that’s fine, it’s a more personal meditative scent anyway. If you are a fan of Gucci-era TF you’ll appreciate this, this smells like the late 90’s to me...he gave us an homage to that moment in time when ultra woody incense fragrances were on the counter at Dillards...thank you TF

Amazing scent! Very soft and smooth wood. It is sweet but more of a natural woodsy sweet note. Not very long lasting or high sillage, but if you do not care too much about other peoples opinion this is an amazing fragrance to wear and smell on yourself. Very relaxing and contemplative.

Okay, there’s about 80 different versions of Bois Marocain mentioned here on Fragrantica. To be clear, I’m reviewing the 2022 re-release. It’s a smooth, creamy cedar. That’s about it. Nothing groundbreaking, but nothing to complain about either. It’s a very, very solid fragrance. But all the comparisons to Gucci Rush made me awfully curious, so I tried them both side by side and... well. I’ll be damned. There’s actually a similarity. To be clear, they’re not 1:1. Gucci Rush smells distinctly more synthetic and airy, whereas Bois Marocain is a little sharper, a little creamier and a little heavier overall. With that said, this could very well be a worthy replacement for those pining after the long discontinued Rush.

Tried this today 2022 new release. Mostly cedar and cypress, then it comes in with incence and smoke on my skin. Appropriate for fall and winter. I tried it in the heat, but I'll need to try it in the cold as that is probably where it excells. Not bad but I don't feel compelled to purchase a bottle yet. I got fairly good performance but not earth shattering. Scent 6.7 Performance 6.8/10

Smells like a spice bazaar, a comforting scent to enjoy it mostly by your self, like after the shower and drinking your Moroccan tea or coffee setting in the balcony quietly while watching the sunset in a moderate to cool atmosphere . It has that feel of moisturizer kind of or the humidity in the air that wake the spices up in their woody boxes with some smoke touches. Edited.

7/10- Minty green with sharp woods. This fragrance smells of a great Japanese incense, the overall scent is very minty and fresh with a woody character that's considered to be similar to pencil shavings but this doesn't come harsh or piercing in any manner in this blend. No brainer signature scent.

this starts off smelling like xmas-strong cypress and cedar notes. very woody and pine-y. a few seconds later i get some vetiver and peppery notes, followed by incense which gives it more body and depth. the woods and incense brings in a meditative quality. i am trying this in cool but not cold weather. i think it would be better in the cold.

I never intended to test Bois Marocain, it was sprayed on me purely by accident as the sales assistant mistook Bois Marocain for a bottle of Amber Absolute. Although Amber Absolute is more my cup of tea, I enjoyed wearing Bois Marocain for the duration of my shopping trip and was not at all perturbed by it. This fragrance is more masculine than feminine. Bois Marocain centres itself around a dominant woods accord. Cedarwood, pepper, cypress, patchouli, vetiver and incense are the most dominant notes to my nose, creating an elegant, sophisticated scent. There are moments throughout this composition where the pepper and cypress tend to create this bitter, tart-like aroma. Despite this blend being a little out of place, I appreciate this discordant quality as it prevents Bois Marocain from becoming a bland, linear woods fragrance. I firmly believe that Tom Ford decided to discontinue Bois Marocain all because of its subtlety. This is an easy-to-wear, 'no-nonsense' masculine scent which doesn't entirely fit the Tom Ford line with its loud, 'overly-sexualised' fragrances. A consumer often gravitates towards a Tom Ford counter when hunting for a raunchy sillage monster. Bois Marocain is far too classy and subdued to attract the same kind of consumer that dons Tuscan Leather, F*!king Fabulous and Black Orchid. For the most part, Bois Marocain is comforting and pleasant. I wouldn't mind smelling this fragrance in the office, or on a first date. It leaves a good impression without trying too hard to catch the attention of others.

Blind bought a 50 mL bottle for over half off on eBay, and the blend quality for that price is definitely worth it. Definitely one of the more “niche” Tom Ford releases in that it’s not an in-your-face crowd pleaser like Lost Cherry. It does have that pencil shaving sorta quality to it, but I think that’s just the thuja wood, which is such an unique note and one of my favorite woods and woody smells. Perhaps the smell overall is akin to the inside of an old piece of well-made wooden furniture, like you’d find in an antique shop. It does give a little bit of old person vibe, but surprisingly in a good way. This is the worst longevity of any Tom Ford I’ve tried or owned, maybe worse than Neroli Potofino. Once I lose projection on all Tom Ford’s, it’s still a skin scent for a very long time. With this one, after about 4-6 hours it’s basically undetectable. Don’t know why; it starts off pretty strong. If I double spray the same place on my wrist, it helps considerably. Solid 7/10 overall. 3/10 longevity. 6/10 sillage. Don’t blind buy if you can help it.

Until now, I only had experience with MOROCCAN GREEN by JUST JACK, a fragrance inspired by TF Bois Marocain. This is my review of Moroccan Green, that I wrote nearly 2 years ago: A stunning spicy incense and cypress fragrance, with cedar (iso-e/cashmeran), resins and vetiver support in the base. This reminds me a bit of Lalique Encre Noire (cypress/vetiver) a' L'Extreme and Nishane B612 (cashmeran) I recently bumped into a tester of BM Reserve Collection at a dept store, and, well.... I'm glad I only spent $20 for my bottle of JJ Moroccan Green, because I wouldn't have change a single word of my review. BM has a (tiny) extra drop of citrus in the top, and a (tiny) bit more of cedar creaminess (barely noticeable) in the base, but overall they are really 99% identical, including for their questionable performance. $4.50/ml vs $0.20/ml.... LOL. That's not about preference at this point, just about common sense.

I’m reviewing the brand new 2022 version of this as the newest version isn’t on Fragrantica yet. If Ebene Fume is too much for you, this is your less heavy, less intoxicating and unisex version. It’s aromatic and smells like a relaxing Thai spa that’s built with bamboo. A dry-woody, spicy, aromatic scent that quickly becomes a skin scent that doesn’t last longer than 5-6 hours.

The bio is incorrect on this. I bought this years and years ago. Unique scent. I had two bottles, traded one. It’s high quality just a bit too much of a church-like scent for my taste. But could definitely be someone’s signature scent.

Funny it’s equal parts the cliche smell (Black Afgano) I hate with burning passion and Escentrics 04 and 05 holographic woody/critic note which I absolutely love!

Nice but very very soft and expensive. Maybe if worn in the heat of the summer it could work out nicely, otherwise not worth it.
