Reserve Collection: Italian Cypress

Absolutely worth the money to buy this one! Think of the softest, most comforting cypress, basil, and mint(which together create a beautifully soft herbal, very slight sweetness), underscored by a light, chocolatey incense and oak moss. I realize that is a weird combination of smells to think of. This reserve release does indeed have oak moss, despite some people claiming it doesn’t. Take away any and all sharpness, menthol, and tobacco from polo classic and amp up the quality of ingredients and you have this. Cypress is similar to pine, but not as sharp and pronounced, I feel. Perfect fragrance in my opinion. It is soft and rich, and doesn’t loudly project, but the trail will be noticed. Absolutely fantastic. I will be wishing I hadn’t made this review I think. It definitely takes me back to smelling Polo Classic as it was in the early 90’s. Though it isn’t the same fragrance, the scent memory is there. This just has a smooth, cypress/chocolatey richness to it, as one reviewer describes. Polo is a more dry and a possibly a bit colder fragrance. This is warm. As others have noted, Apex definitely shares similarities in structure, more so than Polo.

I love this version just as much as the original. Both are just damn excellent. However, there are some differences to my nose. This updated version is fresher, less woody, and has no real oakmoss, therefore lacks the sophisticated bold touch the original has. Instead treemoss takes the center stage, producing a much lighter and airier, iteration. A perfect example of a reformulation where the scent profile is not affected, only compound density. One could easily own both. Such a shame these two gems are discontinued. I own Floris 1962, Vintage Z-14, Vintage Polo, AF's Italian Forest and yet nothing does it for me like Italian Cypress.

Wow! There is something holy nostalgic about this scent for me. I grew up in the 80's and I remember this kind of scent from my childhood.It has a very 70's vibe for me and I love it! I have to get me this, when I can afford it.

The 2019 Reserve Collection of Tom Ford's Italian Cypress is a coniferous aromatic that is both woody and green. It's an upscale, refined, and mature scent reminiscent of the original Polo. The Reserve Collection was an insanely expensive and over-priced reissue of a group of discontinued fragrances. I have never smelled the original issue. So, I can't comment on any difference in the two. I purchased my 50ml bottle in 2019 at the Covent Garden Tom Ford shop in London. I keep it as a remembrance of a wonderful trip. The gold plating has tarnished on the bottle, but the scent remains true and pure. I wear it for special occasions in the autumn and when planning future travel. It's one of the few perfumes in my "collection" that I merely like but don't love.

I always wanted to try this; never thought I would get to, as it was quickly discontinued again and not widely available. Alas, the right deal came up on eBay, and I bought 3 unsealed bottles. I’ve never tried the original, but I have used this. I get the connection to Bois Moracain, but this is infinitely better, as you could actually get compliments on this. BM is more so just kinda there, not really anything special. To me, it’s like Polo green, but upgrades and doesn’t feel so much like a grandad. It feels very distinguished and professional. That being said, it’s potent, so if you’re wearing to work, go easy on the sprayer. After a few hours, it develops a nearly edible quality, like a dark chocolate type of smell. I’m the only one who’s said that. Longevity is great, but not absolutely beastly like it probably used to be. The scent is incredibly pleasant, not at all abrasive (unless grossly over sprayed, which is easy to do), and is one of the best cold weather green scents out there. If you wanted a green and fresh 2 bottle collection, Aqua di Parma Colonia Club would be perfect for warm weather, and then this for when it cools down. Very happy to have this in my collection, and although it’s fairly large, this one stands out. I’d be sad if I ever lost it. Luckily, it’s so potent and I wear so many different fragrances, it will be many years or decades before I use up my 3 bottles

Here we are with the re-edition of a sophisticated fragrance discontinued, Italian Cypress, really gorgeous, non simple and not for the young crowd, but classy and elegant. I've got the oldest Italian Cypress two years ago, and i'm so curious to smell the new one, to ascertain any reformulations..... Probably this re-edition follows the trend in the Tom Ford line, avoiding the mainstream trends, so cheaper, so dull, so poor, offering a clin d'oeil to the oldest fragrances, revisited in a modern and in the sophisticated way, that distinguishes the brand.

Well, they should have gotten the name right. Its not the Reserved Collection, it's the Re-priced Collection. I have no doubt it smells great, but, I'm glad I'm still sitting on about 3 years worth of the original and don't have to concern myself with paying for this. The original had oakmoss in it as a fixative, even though it was never listed as a note.

This is a great scent for older formal men. 40 and up. Polo Greens causin. Very masculine. Not for me though. On another note if you want the best modern cypress scents Look for Acqua di parmas blus, Dolce Gabanna velvet and Bottega Venetas parco palladian one. They are the best. They are worth checking out and buying.

I’ve worn my decant of this a few times. Really like it, although it’s quite mature. Woody, spicy, coniferous, almost barbershop territory. Projection is super strong for me, almost to a fault. Go easy on the sprayer.

It is more animalistic and heavier than Halston's Z14. maybe mastics? somewhat dirty resinous nuance is in here, like Eau d'Ikar of Sisley, or the "Verts" series of Tom Ford.
