Compass

Plea-scent-ly surprised. Bought this Tommy Bahama Compass in a four 15-ml.-each gift set on post-holiday sale. Have had Set Sail St. Barts for years and found the Martinique and especially the For Men (or For Him) of the same DNA but even more synthetic and cloying. The Compass, on the other hand, I find a higher quality and better blended as well as more versatile generic men's fragrance. Definitely has some freshness but is not aquatic to me. It's more traditional-leaning too. As a "cheapie" it may be in the league of St. Barts.

Tommy Bahama Compass is a spicier Tommy Bahama for Men with some similarities to an Invictus style fragrance but with some more spices. Similar to Invictus, Compass has the strong notes of grapefruit and ambergris, both are heavy notes in Invictus. There are some similarities to Tommy Bahama for Men in Compass due to the spice, but Compass is far spicier. As mentioned before, Compass is spicy. The pimento gives a very strong hot pepper note. This is added into a very strong grapefruit and ambergris note. Tonka bean is the next strongest note adding to some sweetness in the base. The rest of the noticable notes in Compass are the lemon and violet notes in the open, the lavendar note in the mid (largely due to the combat with the pimento note), and the cedar in the base. I do not really notice sage and labdanum. The performance is more Tommy Bahama for Men than Invictus sadly, due to being an eau de cologne. I get about five hours, up to two of which is at moderate projection. I will say that this is one of the better of the performances from an eau de cologne I've come across and can last longer than Coach for Men, but it is a knock on this fragrance. Compass can work in mostly casual spring, summer and fall day settings. It can also work in work settings but be careful because maybe the spice from the pepper might be off putting. That said with the fairly similar to Invictus DNA, it should be liked, if people smell it. Tommy Bahama Compass is a nice hidden gem. If you can find it in discounters, I will say pick it up except if you don't like Invictus. That said, it isn't as gummy as many say Invictus is, perhaps because it is an eau de cologne, or perhaps due to the spice. I rate Compass a 7.3 out of ten. Out of the four Tommy Bahamas I got in a four pack of 15 ml mini spray bottles, this and St. Barts are the two I would get 100 ml bottles of when I am done due to the uniqueness.

Compass by Tommy Bahama (TBC) is a FRESH SOAPY CLEAN LIGHTLY-SPICY SWEET 'casual scent' Quick alcohol blast right off the bat, Fresh-Spicy-Clean-Lightly Fruity-Moderately Sweet [similar to MB Individuel, that fresh clean laundry fabric sheets smell with a syrupy/candied fruity (raspberry like) sweetness], the sweetness in TBC is pronounced but not cloying (but could be, so watch the sprays) which makes it a 'casual scent', with a tad bit of spice from the pimento, once the dry-down is reached the sweetness dials down to just a hint of sweetness in the background as the mild fresh clean spiciness remains added with some powderiness, the pimento and sage blend well with the ambergris and cedar to create a very nice herbaceous-woody accord as the tonka bean adds a bit of creaminess, very well composed and blended fragrance. Tommy Bahama is a very underrated house, but not by me, I really enjoy TB fragrances. Sure Compass is not the most unique and exciting release (i mean what release from the house is) but it's still well composed and has moderate depth to it; it's just a very fresh clean modern masculine scent that's not in your face; great casual or office frag for spring, summer, or fall, any age (sweet enough for youth but not too sweet for someone older). Projection/Sillage: DECENT, very aromatic w/ good 'scent bubble' for about 1-2 hours, and radiates within 5 feet Performance/Longevity: DECENT, will last on avg about 5-6 hours

I bought the gift pack at Sears for less than $30 with Set Sail Martinique, Set Sail St Barts, Tommy Bahama For Men and Compass. Each mini bottle is 1⁄2 ounce which was way more than I needed to sample them side by side many times. The opening is a fresh blast of lemony citrus. Very nice. It dries down to a pleasant woody scent. Longevity and projection were both moderate. Overall very pleasant fragrance. Although Compass and Nautica Voyage are both fresh sea scents, there is no comparison between the two. For me Nautica Voyage is the king in this category. I like Compass, but did not love it. I would not recommend buying this as there are better choices out there. Of the four pack I tested, this was second best. 1-Set Sail St Barts; 2-Compas, 3-Set Sail Martinique and 4-For Men.

Spices, woods and light citrus notes. The opening is citrus, not the astringent type, it's more like a lightly sweet orange juice. Then the sage, lavender mingle. The pimento is perceptible but not obvious. Then finally the woods and ambergris finish the whole composition. Overall, it's not a remarkable fragrance, it's nice, clean and masculine. You can't go wrong if you wear this perfume, but you won't be the most original either.

Early impressions: Has some similarities to Davidoff Adventure, especially as it dries down. I swear I get a sesame seed note in this, just like in Adventure (I think it's the way the pimento mixes with the woods). If you've smelled Adventure, this is like the aquatic version of it. It's actually really quite well done, and lasts a long time (although it's easy to lose track of). Thumbs up.

Not bad, but didn't blow my socks off. Refreshing but with a little spice in the base which makes it more masculine. I use it as a gym scent. A good one for the money but I'm glad I got it in a sample pack because I don't see me using a full 100 ml bottle. I'd recommend trying the Coffret 4-Piece Fragrance Set if you can find it.

I tried this at my local TB. It smells green mossy spicy with a freshness to it. Kind of like the original Polo but much more wearable for the younger crowd. Havent had extensive time to test but I'm giving it a "Like" for now.

Yes, I tested this one at Belks. Just smooth and nice. This fragrance is well blended with great citrus notes.

Scent: 7/10 Value: 6/10 Longevity: 3/10 Sillage: 3/10 Versatility: 4/10 Tommy Bahama (TB) Compass is one of those scents that could have been great, but due to performance issues, it isn't. The scent itself is really good. It starts with a refreshing lemon and pineapple note with just enough pimento to keep it interesting. It's mildly sweet, and the violet comes in faintly (the violet here does NOT smell like gasoline). I'm a fan of TB mainly due to its value. However, this scent has longevity and sillage issues. If sprayed on clothing you would be lucky to get 2 hours out of this. The sillage for this frag is not so good either. Expect to get 1-2 feet of sillage for the 1st-hour max. My wife really likes this one, but due to sillage issues, I will not be buying again. Overall this is a great scent with longevity and sillage issues. Go for another (TB) and leave this one alone. Hope this helps...

Definitely not unique in any way nor my style. Next to Tommy Bahama for men, this new flanker reeks. It smells like citrus and incense and not much else. All of it however, smells harsh, generic and synthetic. 3/10 Not my bag... whatsoever.

What a joyless, boring and mega-mild scent! Generic and cheap comes to mind...maybe Z zegna...ugh. The best from this house for me so far is St Martinique. Pass on this...might re-gift it or use it for sneakers, lol.

Agree 100% with user below my review. It’s generic, but I’ll explain further so I don’t sound like a member in our community who sounds like a typical drone who says it’s generic and smells like shower gel. First things first this should only be considered a cheapie. I paid 20$ bucks for a 50ml bottle and I’m glad I didn’t get a 100ml. To my nose the opening is reminiscent of Nautica like fragrances. There’s no specific one, it just has that feel. Also, when checking the pyramid I was left shocked that there is no fig leaf mentioned in it. I’m not sure if it’s the pepper combo with the citruses but it comes across like a fig leaf bomb. Where this stuff fails is with it longevity and it’s performance. I’m not joking when I say you go from opening, mid, and then dry down within 15 minutes. It smells decent enough, but what’s the point if you don’t even get an hour. Unless there was some massive reformulation I wouldn’t trust the voting in regards to it’s moderate and above longevity votes. The opening is a citrus violet combo, and by the dry down that’s where more of the aromatic feel kicks in. It’s not a bad scent but there’s nothing that makes me want to by this again, and I’ll be glad once it’s out of my collection. I’ll give this a 4/10. It’s slightly below average and if the performance was better I’d bump this up to a 5. Skip this one, I feel it’s been done before, and much better done, but by who I couldn’t say because wherever I’ve smelled this before it wasn’t memorable either.

A nice sent, nothing very loud. Great for the office or casual gathering. Longevity might be an issue with this one but if you spray it on office clothing it should last a bit longer. Picked up a 100ML/3.4oz for $19.99 at our local Ross, so a refresh every few hours shouldn't set you back too much cash. Overall a nice clean inoffensive scent. My main concern would be how quickly it fades away, but as I said for the price you shouldn't have an issue with refreshing your spray every couple of hours with a decant or travel atomizer.

This stuff seems a bit underrated and overly criticized, but I can definitely understand it being considered "generic." Nothing exceptional, but it is a very masculine fragrance, a bit spicy, but also with a fresh vibe. It does have some heft to it and doesn't smell like a fruit basket, which is refreshing. I found it at Ross for $20, which is honestly a steal. Very cool bottle too. Overall I think this fragrance is pretty nice, if a bit unoriginal. Longevity could be better though. I'd give it a solid 3.5/5 rating.

Really pleasant scent, but WOW... longevity is horrendous on this one.. on me it literally becomes nearly non existent within 20 minutes... I blind bought a 3.4 oz bottle of this for only $16 and on my first wearing I had to reapply 3 times for it to last 8 hours... Havent worn it since... I'll probably just wear it around the house ... Again, its a very nice scent but it disappears within minutes... At least that was MY experience with it.
