Set Sail South Seas for Men

Smells very nice, but longevity and sillage are terrible, I gave up on trying to like this after having the bottle for years. Took it to work and will use it as a bathroom spray! Shame, this could have been amazing, Tommy Bahama needs to stick to the clothing line and ditch the fragrance venture. Do one thing, and do it well.

I received a .5 oz of this along with a purchase at a local department store. I decided to wear it to work the next day without even tying it on my skin first. As I smelled it on myself, I couldn't quite figure out what this smelled like. All day, it gnawed at the back of my mind and I still could not figure it out! Then, BINGO, it hit me! Tommy Bahama Set Sail South Seas smells amazingly similar to Dior Homme Sport, however, Dior Homme Sport does a way better job at making their fragrance smell more natural whereas Set Sail South Seas smells more synthetic! Though I don't see lemon in the note pyramid, I smell it in this and though this is quite a pleasant scent for the price, I'd rather stick with Dior Sport. I'm not a fan of lemon scents to begin with so the synthetic lemon I'm getting does not appeal to me at all. I'd just rather drop $80 for Dior Sport and the natural lemon in it anyday over this! To South Seas credit, I got 10 solid hours and projection is rather good so kudos to this fragrance for that! Other than that, I'm giving it a neutral because it's not a bad scent but there are better lemon scents out there.

I like Tommy Bahama pour homme & St Barts. So I was curious to smell this but when I did it was not pleasing at all. It reminded me of wet wood (not a bad thing), rum gone bad and Peptol Bismol which even though you always seem to whiff the bottle due to intrigue, its not a pleasing scent overall. In any case it was very strange to me & im afraid i wouldnt get compliments but sour faces or raised eyebrows. I then recently got into very cool from Tommy & Martinique which is a darker almost night time wear of St Barts. & now that i seem to have & like all Tommy Bahama scents i am now intrigued to try Set Sail South Seas again & if i see it at ross, tj maxx or marshalls as i did with the others, I will purchase it. If i still cant wear it i will use it as a linen spray. On fragrantica theres another Set Sail South Seas in a blue-gray tint bottle. Not sure if they are the same or reformulated & Im not sure if it was that or this I smelled.

This is such a gorgeous designer fragrance. I'm left baffled that it was discontinued. In my opinion, it does the "alcohol accord" better than Set Sail St Barts. It's the essence of spiced rum with lime. It doesn't smell like an alcoholic beverage, but the essence. Like if you were to turn spiced rum into a candle without the alcoholic bite. To my surprise, there is a shampoo vibe but it's not like handsoap or waxy. It's like a fancy shampoo. I purchased Set Sail South Seas cuz it described as "fruity" or "like a bowl of Fruit Loops." That piqued my interested. While it's not a smashing fruity scent, it's definitely a quality fragrance. I wish this was in production and I wish it came in lotions, aftershave splashes, and deodorant. It's a really great, casual designer fragrance that is not generic by any means.

I agree with Nattonline; however...the 2007 one looks blue (and only has only two listed notes and neither of them is citrus, and it's labelleded as Citrus Aromatic) and THIS one (2008) looks grey and NOT blue, but has (to me anyway) more accurate notes, to the one I smelled (blue bottle) quickly at marshalls. LE flanker perhaps?
