Tommy Bahama Men

So I have this bottled since 2005, I lost it and then found it recently boxed up with like half a bottle left- so score because it’s rare now! The best comparison that I know of is that it smells a lot like Dolce and Gabbana the One (original) like 75% similar. It's definitely in that same family of scent. I like this more than the One, as it's more heavy, spicy, and warm. It opens up amber and masculine, and then dries down to a spicy/woody mid, with a VERY musky base. I will say I feel this is blended very well and smells of good quality. The overall feeling of this fragrance is it gives you a warm feeling like dark rum. I feel like someone who would wear this would have to be a chill older man on a cool beach sitting at a tiki bar having a drink- this guy probably has a classic sail boat and is super care free. Best way to describe who I could see wearing this. I think this is definitely a cooler weather/night time fragrance. This could be a day time fragrance, but it's not a high-heat fragrance. Performance is moderate all around, this is no beast mode fragrance. It’s kind of mediocre in this department, just like any other standard designer fragrances. The price tag for this bottle is very expensive now. I suppose if you’re a collector then whatevs pull the trigger if it means lot to you. But just to be clear, this was originally a standard designer fragrance. So if I had to spend $300 on a bottle, and it came between this or some other new release from like Amouage or Creed etc. I'd go with the latter. All around I give this a solid 8 It’s a great fragrance for what it was. I actually remember the day I bought this bottle at Dillards, and I didn't know anything about colognes at that time- it had just come out and was brand new when I bought it and I really liked it then and I still do now. It's too bad Tommy Bahama puts out some cheap smelling stuff now, as I feel they put some effort into this cologne. Just a classic and classy men's fragrance; one of the best hands down. There are scents that "smell good" or even "smell great" and then there are those magical scents that tell a story. They almost physically transport you to another place and time. Tommy Bahama (the original!) smells like island opulance, gentility and class. The amber colored palm leaf packaging for this is perfect. It brings to mind (among other things) smokey cognac, expensive cigars and well-tailored linen suits. One can imagine Hemmingway spritzing this on during his years on Key West. Or Humphrey Bogart on the set of Casablanca. Just flawless. (Speaking of Key West, not too long ago I was vacationing there and walking through the Historic District of the island admiring the Classic Revival and Victorian style architecture. Combined with the island vegitation and the salty sea air permeating throughout, this is what Tommy Bahama captures. No, it doesn't smell aquatic in any way. It captures a specific mood. A mindset. A lifestyle. Groan. I could go on and on...) Note: the Tommy Bahama "spin offs" like St. Barts and Very Cool are nothing like the original. Not even close. I'm not saying don't try those or purchase them. They're... okay. But just know the original is another animal entirely. Incredible brilliant balance among the notes. Nothing overdone, nothing underdone... One of my all time faves.

Firstly, this was magical and hard to compare another fragrance to it, it was a golden standard for mens fragrances, boozy sweet rum island with that pirate quality to it, but of course you rock it with a leather jacket in a fine restaurant/ event. Same goes with the original very cool, which was just that: a cool variation sharing the dna . But these were always discount store fragrances for 20 bucks , it got weaker over the years , and eventually discontinued . No it is not a unisex like the above comment states , it is a modern masculine , common with early 2000s fragrances . Do note however , a fair warning to those willing to pay those awkwardly high prices online , I recently bought a small sealed bottle but it had turned a bit , like most fragrances do after a decade + . This I truly believe is worth the same as the very cool wood cap, 100 bucks for the 3.4 for those that remember it , so don't be afraid to haggle and lower those prices , please , thanks . P.S. to get a similar but less sweet and less rum, maybe mix black walnut with dirty english . Otherwise seek the old bottle very cool for a similar vibe .

The great thing about this was it was a rich, warm-spicy fragrance that still fit perfectly in a classy summer / beach vacation environment. It was tropical, gentlemanly, different and statement making, all while being easily mass appealing. It was relaxing, a bit sexy and made me think of buying some nice rum, even though I’m a teetotaler. How else could you possibly want your rum and tropical beach-wares brand to smell? It was an absolutely perfect flagship scent. They could have pumped it through store vents and sprayed all the merch (like Abercrombie with Fierce) and it would be the perfect match for the brand’s ambiance/image. Did it not sell? It couldn’t have sold worse than their current generic, uninspired bargain bin offering of scents that are no more distinctive than several off brand liquid hand soaps. I know TB isn’t a fragrance house, but HR needs to have a stern talk with whatever inept employee(s) made their fragrance decisions over the last decade.

Ok. So, my signature scent for years was Tommy Bahama original that was discontinued in around 2015. I was fortunate to buy a number of bottles as soon as I found out, they now go for $300+ a bottle. Currently it's my special occasion going out fragrance. I've been looking for a replacement ever since... Reading multiple fragrance reviews online I saw the comparison of TB to Gucci PH1, so naturally I was intrigued when I saw the same comparison made with Bentley Absolute. I blind bought a bottle and was super happy when I first got my nose on the opening. Definitely a very similar fragrance. Not as complex or alluring but a solid substitute non the less. If you like dry, woody, boozy, aromatic, sensual scents I don't think you'd be disappointed. Bentley Absolute is an 8/10 substitute for the OG Tommy Bahama

It's April 2010 and I left a review for this on Fragrantica from my old account: "Wow, this is just great and completely different then whats out there. I got a aftershave/cologne set and tried it this morning for the first time. I was blown away. The pepper hits you like a can of mace, but in a good way if that makes sense. The scent lingers and you simply feel spicy and I am sure the ladies will just eat it up. Best for night I would say." It's 2026 now and my description is just as I remember for this. I do wish this was still available as it was one of my favourite scents ever. So incredibly enjoyable with a spice that hit all the perfect notes to my nose. Been chasing this dragon for over 16 years now..... but not for the current price for this discontinued gem.

Reading the reviews tells me what I already know... This is a great one! I bought mine at Macy’s I believe in 2008 and even had a sample that came with golf tees. I wore it quite a bit but had many other scents at the time that also rotated in and out, so luckily I still have most of my bottle. Great packaging and the performance is stellar! Out of all the cologne’s I have from all those years ago this is still the best smelling (hasn’t turned since it’s been in a dark medicine cabinet) and it’s the one that is actually worth something, which is somewhat of a bummer because it’s the only one I likely wouldn’t sell or trade out of the whole lot of them!

I was deeply in love with this back in the mid 'aughts when it came out, purchased a bottle and blew theough it pretty quickly. Jeleously guarded the remaining few mils and then foubd out if was discontinued by the time I wanted to get a couple backups. It has haunted me for years. Anyway point being, I finally found an unused bottle and was very pleased to get it, and years later and more experience under my belt, I realize, the pepper and ginger were the stars all along. Creed Tabarome and Amouage Epic man both can make up the slack on this. Try three pumps tabarome and one pump Epic Man and you can get the same vibe. You're welcome!

I received this as a birthday gift in 2006. the box had a creative design of tropical palm trees.I quickly opened the box and pulled out the marvelous amber brown bottle it was very creative with the palm tree on the back of the bottle, and the little water vapors around the bottle. the opening was very peppery and spicy which reminds me of the summer heat, the middle was very soothing as the gentle waves of the ocean, and the base was sensual and exotic as a one night getaway to a private island. The cologne was very unique and different and makes me daydream and believe this is what the Bahamas is like fun and exotic.

A great signature scent that most men should try. It's fresh, deep, and rich; just like the way the bottle looks. It's also dark and smooth. Spiciness of ginger and pepper is there but not at all overwhelming. A combo of something and patchouli reminds me of coffee actually. Or sometimes tobacco blossom. Overall, I like this baby. It is a nice grown-up sent. It has a nice aroma and seems pleasant enough to wear year round; fall and winter especially. One of the good ones from Tommy Bahama House and who can forget the affordable price and how easy it is to find it at many discount stores here in US.

Oh man I miss this. This scent is what I always conjure up when I hear 'spicy scent' and have tried/bought many unsatisfying fragrances trying to recapture this tropical spicy gem. Had family who owned a surf shop and this fragrance captures that woody, tropical vibe...all without wood notes being listed or being some fruity/floral interpretation of 'tropical'. 70s surfer sunset by way of mid-2000s 'SoCal youth' scents. Smells like a very specific time and place and none of the Tommy Bahama fragrances today hold a candle to this. Wish it still existed *sigh*

found this bottle in an old collection of colognes that my dad stopped wearing and it is actually BEYOND IMPOSSIBLE for me to not reach for this cologne. i know damn well that this has been discontinued for like...forever...but DAMN does it smell good. i've personally always been a fan of more musky or woody scents so this has always been my go to. plus the scent lasts for almost forever. i've gone to bed and woken up the next day still smelling like this cologne....but i really gotta stop using it considering how much it goes for online 😭😭😭

Why this was discontinued and then replaced by terrible scents is beyond me. I got to enjoy this for one winter many years ago; the warm amber was a nice contrast to the frigid weather. The previous reviews hit the nail on the head so I don't need to describe it any further. Unfortunately, my bottle broke in my bag, and it became a bag freshener. The remaining liquid kept my bedroom fresh for months until it evaporated. In hindsight, I should have purchased it again shortly thereafter. This will always be one of my favorites.

I blind bought this today at Ross for 13.99 for the 3.4 oz, what a bargain! I've been searching for weeks for something to get that's versatile for a college student, and this is it. Definitely the most masculine cologne I have. Reminds me a little bit of the classic Polo but aimed at a younger crowd, I'd say age range 20-30s. It opens up spicy with a vibrant rum and cigar feel to it. It's a pretty sharp fragrance so projection and sillage are pretty great. Kudos to Tommy Bahama!

When I divorced 10 years ago I bought a bottle of this and am on my 3rd bottle. I would wear this everyday if it weren't discontinued. It has a nice 'Musky Spiced Rum' smell about it. A little peppery but very nice. This was my signature scent for the longest time. I would get tons of compliments wearing this too. It has a personality on its own. I really love this stuff.

Wearing my bottle from 2005 today for the first time in years, I hardly wear it bc its so expensive on ebay, and i can't get over how much I love it. That black pepper and coriander opening is so good with the amber woody base lasts all day, its perfection to my nose!

One of my favs, it can be worn any season. If you like pepper, this is for you. It is unique, bold and spicy with so much pepper that can make you sneeze, ginger and some combination that smells of cedar. Sadly it has been discontinued as far as i know. An unsung scent that has been mostly forgotten. Tommy Bahama for men (2005) comes off complete, smooth and playfully dominate; it's thick but not overly. For me it's underrated, its scarcity is a deterrent for most; if you ever have the chance to snag it without getting ripped off, take it.

This was recommended as an overlooked gem that could be found at bargain prices- it is impressive! Peppercorn, coriander seed, cinnamon over a base of cedar and olibanum and myrrh. Subtle musk and boozy notes make this a sexy head-tipper- get one while you can!

I have wore this for many years it was my signature scent for a long time... I love the rum smokey island like scent it produces! It reminds me of Captain Morgan Rum! I really have nothing bad to say about this cologne...

Truly amazing- so disappointed that it was discontinued. Some of the other fragrances in the line are terrible- but this was amazing. A spicy leathery tobacco drydown- one of the best.

WEATHER / SEASON : mainly spring (and the last days of summer / first days of fall) TIME / : day and night SCENT / FEEL : 16/20 (I notices pepper, coriander and ginger, mainly) - spicy perfum for those who don't like spicy scents, especially the young. Ginger is the dominant note, IMHO with pepper struggling in the background. The coriander is amlsmot unnoticeable and the amber rather absent. The smell itself is very good, quite unique, yet very linear, almost like a deodorant. Would fit men 15 YO and upwards, and good as a "casual" scent for the more mature (+40 yo). LONGEVITY : 6,50/10 (I don't know if its the bottle I got but i find the longevitu average. Maybe it's my skin actually, as the scent lasts longer on my clothes... +36/48 hrs) PROJECTION / SILLAGE : 6,50/10 (sillage and projection is below average. It's a safe choice, I would say "office friendly", yet original enough to be noticed. I got a couple of compliments with it). Stays close to the body after ~1h OVERALL : 14/20 NOTES / ADD INFO : My first "cheapie", bought in the US by an ex (I'm in France). Compliments getter. Not offensive and safe. Good for the price, and i love the design of the bottle with its wooden cap.

Good but not great; likeable but not loveable. This is essentially a cologne but not a very typical one, capable of being worn and enjoyed all year round, day or night. As with any cologne there are longevity issues and in the heat it seems to be stripped away pretty quickly. I am wearing this on a winter evening in a hot climate (Dubai, UAE) and it fits the bill quite well. By Spring this will probably be close to redundant - unless I carry an atomiser. The scent is all of what the notes suggest but to be frank I get pencil shavings coming through right from the beginning. After picking this up from an initial favourable sampling, I was disappointed with the first few wearings because I was simply not getting enough from it. After some time I learned what to expect and adapted expectations accordingly. Some people may not be able to do this. There are some wisps of hype around this fragrance which I honestly think is not justified, so best be cautious in your approach.

I totally agreed with some of the reviews written here that it is very much similar to Dirty English, a only difference is that Dirty English has got more tobacco notes while this one has got more light woody notes in the dry down, Tommy Bahama give a more casual and cooler feelings, but overall it is a good fragrance. i have little issues about its longevity and silage which is not as good as Dirty English i think so! I also like the packaging and the bottle the best part is its cap which is really classic. I give it 7.5 out of 10.

This TB is a weird one. Not an A typical signature sent. I absolutely hate the opening. Smells like B.O, tobacco, and heavy rum. Here's the thing... Let it ride for awhile. It Morphs into something pretty magical. After an hour you get a nutmeg/cinnamon/leather thing happening. It's like you put a whole other cologne on. Retained that body for about 4 hours, or so, and got I nothing but rave reviews, from the chicas. I really wanted to hate this from the opening, but if you're patient, it turns out quite nice. 8/10

This is a nice scent but is very hard for everybody to pull off. I enjoy this as a nice summer or spring fragrance, but definetly not for when I'm going to be in a room all day. It is very powerful and is sometimes hard to stand when in a room and not outside. It also lasts for a long time. I put it on in the morning, went to bed, and the next morning before I showered, I could still smell it. Definetly a day cologne though. 7/10 - not too bad

Found a nearly-full bottle in an antique shop for a song and bought it not knowing much about it, just that I liked the scent. If you didn't know it was a Tommy Bahama it smells, niche and unisex through the coriander/ginger opening and the musky ambery warmth in the heart. It's only as it fades down that it--briefly, on my skin--turns Cuban Tio living in Miami. I enjoyed this one.

OK, when I first smelled this I said good lord!!!! It was a strong hint of rum that came out of the bottle & smacked me dead in my face! I also got some weird other dark smell of some substance. But then this grew on me. ALOT! SO much that I bought me some & will be wearing it as part of my fall maybe winter fragrance! GREAT JOB! The best of the Tommy Bahama lineup!

wow.....people are insane if they are asking for 100bucks for these lol. I have 3 bottles of these unused that I got for 20usd each awhile back. in regards to the smell nothing ground breaking at all, it is a fresher take of Gucci pour homme 1. That pencil shaving smell with watery notes which makes it fresher version, nothing special or unique about it.

I love this scent. It evolves subtly. And there are SO MANY notes. Some that are there and some that are imagined. I smell brown sugar, cocoanut, cinnamon and other notes that arent physically there. And dont be fooled by the dark bottle, it is definently a summer smell more than a winter smell. I will wear it year round.

Just picked one up at a TJ Maxx for 20$. I'm not sure who I did right but thank you lord for letting me smell this nostalgic masterpiece. Something I'd never thought I'd be able to smell again yet alone own

Before looking at the notes, I would have sworn that there was some sort of wood notes in this. It smells strongly of woods and a hint of pepper. I'm reminded of opening a cedar chest when I smell this!

it's a remarkable,fascinating,fine and honest cologne. smells like shaved pencil.but not bitter.

This cologne was a hard for me to peg down. First, the bottle and presentation are beautiful. The curved bottle with the amber glass, inlaid palm tree, and wood cap make for a captivating presentation. However, the warm scent that makes up this fragrance did not make me think of the island image it is trying to convey. I, perhaps ignorantly, think of more blue fresh scents, like the other colognes Tommy Bahama has in its house, when I think of island scents. I suppose this scent can conjure warm island nights. I get descent wear out of this cologne, at least six hours. However, while I love the bottle's presentation and have grown to appreciate its scent profile, this is still not something that I reach for often. For me, looks better on my shelf than it performs on my body.

it is very much like a Dirty English (after it drys down), but its more summery kinda feeling to me. It also has more pepper and ginger in the opening (ALOT OF GINGER AND PEPPER). Also to be noted is that the 3.4 ounce of TB is 20 dollars at your ross or marshalls while the DE 1.7 is around that price too...I prefer Dirty english because TB's opening is just too strong for me..but if you are shopping around its just something to think about if your strapped for cash

I think that Tommy Bahama- Tommy Bahama for Men, Juicy Couture- Dirty English, and Gucci- Gucci Pour Homme I are very very similar scents. My nose is not very trained yet, but I think I am not totally wrong here... I dont think any of those I mentioned here suits teenagers. 25, maybe even 30 years and up...

Not too good for me. At first I was happy with the cinnamon and pepper but after a few days wearing this I am noticing a dirty dishes kind of smell.

This is overwhelmingly spicy on both my own and my fiance's skin chemistry. Way too much pepper and coriander.

I considered a blind buy of this because it sounds right up my alley but found some sample vials on eBay. I really like what they're going for, but there's a quality to the scent that doesn't agree with me. It kind of has that bay rum vibe: spicy, breezy, a little boozy; casual but sophisticated, mature but not old. Unfortunately there's a note in there that makes my eyes water and makes me feel like I'm going to sneeze. I want to say it's the patchouli, but I'm not sure. That note reminds me of something like clover flowers, something with pollen. It's not as noticeable once the scent has dried a bit. But by that time, you can barely smell anything. Not getting a lot of strength and projection with this one. I'll probably try it again in case my nose is just extra sensitive today. But at the elevated prices this (sadly) discontinued frag is fetching on eBay, not sure I'll be rushing to buy a bottle.

@DevonG, I'm not sure what you did to deserve such luck to find this at a T.J Maxx currently, since it's been discontinued for a decade! A worker must’ve literally found it behind a stock shelf in the back that probably hadn’t been moved in ten years and went “meh, I’ll go put this out”... you lucky bastard! I've been holding on to the last bit left in my bottle lol. I'm also still puzzled how cedar isn't one of the notes here. I mainly get cedar, pepper and bergamot oil. It's minimal profile is why I fell in love with this. Same with the beautiful simplicity of Gucci pour Homme 1, which this gets compared to. I personally feel they're quite different because I've been wearing both for years, but each has it's own time. This would be a more of a wearable version in the woody/dry family, since it lacks the smoky incense that takes Gucci pour Homme to a more formal level. Anyway, enjoy!

I purchased this fragrance in a Kroger grocery store of all places in 2008. It was a total blind buy and I just knew I wanted it based on the presentation. The oriental spicy woody scent was so masculine. This may have been the first sophisticated fragrance purchase for me. I miss this fragrance as I must have thrown it away accidentally or just got careless and tossed it. I could just kick myself (looking at you overinflated $300 ebay prices). I may go to the reproduction sites and see if I can get a 100ml reproduction for it eventually. I remember wearing this one in the winter quite a bit and my girlfriend at the time loved it as well. I wasn't huge into fragrance until around the 2010's. I sure wish I had kept this one. I own the re-release Tommy Bahama for Men with the watermelon note and I LOVE it. The original holds a dear and sentimental place in my heart for sure.

I have StSail Barts from TB, so I decided to try this one.I clearly smell peppery notes,coriander and rum.Tobacco notes and rum are tamed.Woody in a good way.Beneath all it's a very masculine strong cologne,which I usually avoid and these types of heavy scents are not appreciated by those who surround You,also its very "sticky",the scent remains on your skin for hours and hours... Edit: I am not sure if I ever smelled this scent on anyone,it's available all year long at TJ Max and Marshalls.I wonder if it's because this scent is so strong and spicy that it's hard to distinguish it from that oily spray-polish for furniture with turpentine. It kinda gives a headache and nausea.

When I got into fragrances probably back in 2008 I would research affordable fragrances that got good reviews. Tommy Bahama for Men was one of them that people were hyping so I had to try it. When I did, I wasn't too impressed. The fragrance itself isn't bad at all but due to the cologne concentration it is rather subtle to my nose. For me, I don't like subtle fragrances because I think, what's the point? Tommy Bahama for men smells rather pleasant but that's really it. Its projection and longevity were rather weak and I ended up returning my bottle.

I am unbelievably sad that this product was taken off the market. I have a small amount left in a 3.4oz spray that I am savoring for special occasions. Since 2007, this has been my signature smell, but with prices mostly available on Ebay at $200 or more... I am in search for a new product. However, nothing comes close to this brilliant masterpiece. I STILL have the one from 2005 with a wooden cap and this stuff lasts forever. The scent is awesome but doesn't remind me of a beach at all and I live near one. This is spicy, ambery and very masculine. A basic note comparison would be of leather but more complex. Nothing sweet here and better for mild weather not full on Summer. Once it fades, I get where they were going with this. A faint unsweetened rum note lingers till the end. This is leather, mixed with a hint of Curve, Stetson, with a tad of rum.

Tommy, I keep trying you. I keep coming back when it is warm. I see you there in your sexy brown bottle looking like tropical beaches and cool drinks with umbrellas in there and I can't resist. I take you out and spray you on and I love you. Perfect. Cedar, Rum, Tobacco, even some coconut. I live it. Then 45 minutes later you are gone. You don't last. You are a love 'em and leave 'em kind of cologne. I wish you lasted longer because you smell so damn good.
